OVI Map download

Is anyone else experiencing an impossibly slow d/l for their maps ? I have left my phone connected to my PC for 6 hours and its still attempting to d/l a 44mb map of Malaysia........

@nagamitsu
Presumably you mean for use with OVI Maps v3.06, there is no issue with direct download link so perhaps OVI Suite at fault: Malaysia

Would suggest that you delete E:\CITIES + .qf file from memory card, re-start OVI Maps application on device to re-initialise and re-create necessary folder structure on memory card prior to re-downloading your map of Romania via OVI Suite Maps.

  • Ovi map - My Position icon MISSING (N8)

    Hi,
I just got my N8 few days ago. After updating Ovi maps to the newest version ( 3.06 if not mistaken ) I have noticed a few problems.
    1) My Position icon is totally missing, that means i can't locate my current position in gps. that's really bad.
    2) Gps cant lock even after a pro-long scanning time, moreless 30 mins anywhere. I'm using intergrated positioning. Red signal blinking, no data found.
    3) I tried to delete the CITIES folder and qf file, and reinstalled the ovi map downloaded, but problem still remains.
I haven tried anyform of hard or soft reset  yet, as i found lots of people facing problems doing that. Is there any other way to ocmpletely remove ovi map & reinstall it again, or i need to do a reset ?
I would like to get some advice from you guys on solving my gps issues. Thank you

Some cars have coated windscreens which can reflect gps signals and this will slow down position fix. One way of testing would be to compare how long it takes to get a fix in the car as out of the car. I generally get a fix after about a minute.
My suggestion if it is a windscreen coating problem would be to get yourself an external bluetooth gps receiver. They are very cheap nowadays. The advantage of using this is the external receiver is usually much more sensitive and you can also place them anywhere in the car to get the best possible signal.  I have a few of them. They work well and would normally get a position fix in seconds.

How to install and setup GPS in nokia E-71.
Firstly Install Nokia Ovi Suite (advance version of PC Suite) in your respected computer.
    http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite
After installation of Nokia Ovi Suite go to following link
    http://www.nokia.co.in/explore-services/ovi-maps/downloads?intc=ncomexpserv-fw-ilc-lft-con-na-ncomex...
Now install the the second link file into your phone, i.e., "nokia_maps_3.03_10wk11_b04_s60_3.1_rom.Nocs.sis".
After successful installation connect your phone with data cable in PC Suite (DON'T run PC suite application in your system) mode and open Nokia Ovi Suite application in your system.
Now in Nokia Ovi Suite application click on View-Go to-Maps (make sure your system is connected to Internet and your mobile phone key pad doesn't get locked, if keypad autolock period is on switch it off for that moment and your phone is fully charged, now in maps select Asia in that India and download that India Map (103 MB) into your phone.
Please Note that do not disconnect your phone from data cable else maps will not get downloaded and will not to be
    transferred to your phone.
After successful installation of maps into your phone download "Voice Guidance Languages", which ever is preferred by you, if you really want to enjoy it. Like- English(UK)-with street names or in Hindi, Tamil, Urdu.
Now you are almost done, just take your phone into your hand,
Go to Maps then select Options-then Settings
Internet-Connection-Offline ( don't worry your GPS will work fine as data bearer is Nokia which is free of charge, so just relax).
    Navigation-Drive Guidance-Select the desired Voice
Walk Guidance-Select the desired Voice or you can set it to Beeps and Vibrations (if downloaded).
Home Location- define you home location by searching in maps, this will make easier to drive back to home by simply selecting Drive Home option while using navigation.
Now go to option Map-Categories-select the categories you want to be shown on the map.
Its DONE, now search for any desired location press the selection button and then select Drive to or Walk to option and you will be connected to GPS.
Please Note as GPS needs free environment so it may not work in home and generally it takes 10-15 minutes to connect so please be patient.
    Worked perfectly for me
By the way, why doesn't the maps application work if I doenload all the maps instead of only India map??

  • Ovi map, start - close - start again, crash!! plea...

    I have an N97mini, Software version V 12.2.110, custom version 12.2.110.232.01
My ovi map version is v3.04 10wk32 b03 MW, map version 0.1.25.114
    I perform following operation sequence:
start ovi map, everything seems work. Exit it by touch the "X" at the bottom right corner.
start ovi map again, everything freezes, wherever I touch including "?" and setting, i receive no response whatsoever.
I have downloaded only California map onto the device. Please help!

    Hi there,
Following is what I have done:
    1. hard reset the phone as you suggested
    2. config wifi on my phone so that map can be downloaded later
    3. formated E: (I don't have a memory card, massive memory is always used)
    4. config the positioning to use only integrated gps as you said
    5. install ovi map the exactly the file you suggested. this is done by first copy the installation file to a directory on E: and then use Application -> office -> file manager to run it
    6. After ovi map is installed, download CA map via wifi. Then I go back to ovi map menu and start the map, it asks whether I want map via wifi, via ovi online or .... I forgot, 3 options, weird, since I downloaded the map already.
    7. then I click "X", the problem still there. ovi map freeze sometime, it can not be started for the second time when it's not freezed at the first.
I wonder is there a way to really clean up everything in the device and start from scratch? I did a device firmware upgrade via ovi suite after I got the phone. I don't know whether that matters.  I have received following email from Nokia customer care with suggestions, shall I try it?

  • Problem in updating OVI Maps After updating E72 De...

I recently checked the available updates for my E 72 Device & found the following updates available for the device.
    1) Device Software Ver 051.018
    2) Ovi Maps Ver 3.4(278)
I installed the Device Software first successfully, but after the update I'm trying to install the Ovi Maps update but it fails and I get a message
"Something Gone Wrong" - Couldnot install the applicationsvi Maps
There was a problem with the software update service.
Please restart Nokia Ovi Suite & try again.
Tried every thing even updated the Nokia Ovi Suite to the latest Ver.3.0.0.284, but all in vain nothing is working out. Kindly suggest the remedy to resolve the issue.

Although it would erase all data on device (need to backup) I would suggest that you reset E72 by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lockcode unless altered by yourself) and download OVI Maps from here: http://maps.nokia.com/services-and-apps/ovi-maps/downloads#/nokia-e72/ which you can always transfer to memory card and install it from there by finding it with file manager.

  • N82 + Ovi Maps

Nokia N82 with last firmware (v.31). Can't update Nokia Maps v.2 upto v.3. Nokia Maps Updater downloads new version, tries to install on the phone. After few seconds error message appears. Something like "Can not update. The component is built.". Is that firmware problem or device problem? I can't even imagine why it happens.

also did you clear the cities folder ?
use the file manager and remove the cities folder it should be either on memory card or c memory/phone memory
    dont worry it recreates itself

  • Fail to install latest version of Ovi Maps

I tried to install Ovi maps 3.03 but during the installation, it says there's not enough memory and it asks me to delete something from the C:. But I didn't really put much in C: and I don't know what I can delete without affecting the system.
So, when I open "Maps" now, the old version still pops out (it says 3.01 when I click into "About"),
but apparently the installer in the PC suite thinks I have 3.03 already.
    What should I do?
    Thanks.

I just saw your post that the old version opens, but the ovi suite says that the latest version is already installed. I had exactly the same problem a few days ago: the error was that the stupid software installed the new maps version as a seperate program, instead of updating the old maps version. Everytime I tried to launch maps, it still opened the old version, and when I tried to reinstall the new one again (because I thought that it didn't work the first time), my phone would tell me that there isn't enough free space left. The solution was to delete both maps programs in the program-manager and then install the latest maps software manually using the file from here: http://maps.nokia.com/ovi-services-and-apps/ovi-maps/downloads?lid=nav_navq1_link_downloadovimapswit...

  • N900 and Voice Navigation / New OVI Maps

s much as I love my N900 it is so frustrating to walk into a T-Mobile store here in the US and find that the simple Nokia Nuron has much newer version of Ovi Maps. While Nokia is busy launching voice navigation for the N97's and such, the N900 is left waiting in the wings. Does anyone have any news regarding when Nokia will again turn their gaze back to what is supposed to be their flagship device?

Not only does Nokia not support Ovi Map downloads on the N900...it also does not support Native Video calls and sending of photos/Video via MMS...sent a note to their support careline..and the reply below was what I received...:-(( This is NOKIA's FLAGSHIP product with 2  cameras and they do not support Video Calls....why launch a product with 2 cameras which does not do Video calls...Hope someone from NOKIA is reading this tread..don't launch products when it is NOT ready .... extreemely dissappointed...might have to consider other brands of phone for my next phone purchase.

    Dear Mr. Chung,
Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
In response to your inquiry, by design Nokia N900 does not support video call feature. Nevertheless your feedback is valued for further consideration.

  • Ovi Maps 3.03 keeps going online even when told no...

So I've just downloaded the new free Ovi Maps for my 5800 and it's pretty nice, except for one thing: even when I set the conection to offline it still connects to the Internet every time the app is started (which, even though the app is fullscreen is visible when, for example you go into the settings screen). It seems though that after a minute or so it disconnects, but still, the old Maps app asked on startup whether to connect, this one just does without asking every time it's started... Am I missing some hidden setting?

Really need indication of which device you are using to give you relevant information here.
As it can take a while to establish position using "Integrated GPS" positional method, "Network GPS" can give approximate position based on cell tower triangulation and "Assisted GPS" can carry out numerical calculations much faster on remote server than using device resources.
In some countries just downloading regional maps such as UK is sufficient for "Search" in OVI Maps application in "Offline" mode to locate to postcode level, whereas in larger countries OVI Maps needs to be "Online" to produce this result.
As you have posted on the end off a thread headed "OVI Maps v3.03" unless you are using E71 I would be surprised if later version is not availble for your device from here:

  • N8 - Downloaded OVI maps won't work offline

I have recently downloaded two map sets, so they could help me find my way outside my homecity. Since I downloaded them, I expected to have them available even without a network, simply because there's no network in many places I go to.
However, I can't check my position or the streets or such if I have no network. Is this how OVI Maps is supposed to work? Online only?

    @tuxette
If you are without network access so Assisted GPS cannot be utilised, you are totally dependent upon Integrated GPS positional method and due to compromises in GPS antenna size/position within candybar form of N8 this may be unsatisfactory; ironically the E7 a similar Symbian S^3 has been reported as being better in this respect than N8.
You could find that using only Integrated GPS (found in Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning methods) that it takes 20 - 30 minutes outside away from tall buildings to establish first positional fix, although subsequently it would be easier.
Although no longer officially supported by Nokia there is nothing to stop you enabling Bluetooth GPS and utilising a Bluetooth GPS receiver, although this rather defeats the object and compatibility of said unit can also be an issue.

  • N900 OVI map not available to be download..?

Can I know where to download Nokia N900 OVI map..? Because I search allots of places but I still cannot get the map..Thks..

    Hi
The way i did it yesterday, to update and install new maps, was to use the Nokia Ovi Suite on my computer, If you dont have this you can download it from a link on the Nokia site,http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/download-software/ovi-suite
Then simply open Ovi Suite on your computer, connect your N900 via USB, click on Maps on Ovi Suite, select the maps you want and download them,
The system first removes any old maps, then downloads to the computer, then transfers to N900, all very simple, but does take some time depending on how many countries you want to download. you can also add additional maps at any time,
Or you can download from the Ovi site just using your N900
Hope this helps, let me know if you require more
    Regards  Peter U/K

  • Ovi map for other country downloaded and installed...

I've used the Ovi Suite 2.2.0.245 and connected with N900 but selected PC suite mode instead of Mass storage. I read alot that you have to select Mass storage for N900, but Ovi Suite won't then be connected with my phone, but works with PC suite.
I wanted to transfer country maps to the phone so I can use it offline. Selected the Map and downloaded and it said transfered to phone...so everything seems good. But when I go to open those maps on the phone...I can't find them anywhere at all! I'm not sure where they are.....I've check the 'ovi map', then the 'cities' folder but nothing. There are other files there but not titled with the cities i've downloaded. I tried to open those files anyways (having a "?" as their icon) and then selected I think 'Application' or something as ways to open the file.....then needed to download but 0kb...??? it then said unable to download, the file could be corrupted. So now..I'm stuck.
I don't know where the maps were transfered to. Oh and I check on the Ovi suite Map tab and selected my device, and it should alllll the cities and countries listed in my device (phone) already....but I can't find/open them on the phone. Much help and guidance would be appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!

Thanks for reply. I did check the cities folder and it's not there...I've downloaded New York and cannot find it. Also, the folders I saw were all a few kb and not the appropriate size.
I went to ovi maps on the n900 and only showed me where I am, I wanted to open new york map but don't know where and how. I clicked on search and entered new york but then ask me to connect to the internet. It did and it worked but then that means I have to connect.
It said I can be offline for N900:
    http://www.nokia.com.au/get-support-and-software/download-software/maps-support/how-to/maps-for-n900
I thought it can be veiwed offline, so how can I? I wanted to open the map when overseas but if there's no internet connection and I have transfered the map on the phone previously, I won't be able? =(

  • Download the Entire Ovi Maps Database?

Just because I want to, I'd like to be able to download the entire Ovi maps database - every detail of every corner of the Earth, not just all the cities/countries available in Nokia Software Updater, which I've already gotten.  I figure that if all the roadways of every country in the world only occupy about 7-8GB on my 32GB drive, adding the terrain of the remaining unpaved/uninhabited regions of the world shouldn't add that much more.  Or, at least less than I have available room on my drive.  Is there an easy way to do this?

On a related question I have downloaded ALL countries (around 9.7GB) but then the various REGIONS show the "Download" icon still active? My question is that if I have downloaded a country do I still need to download the regions as sizewise the data would appear to be already there.
A check on one particular country/region/site (Beijing) showed no change from when I had "China" & then downloaded "Beijing" although the software happily loads this extra data onto the card. Now after having added about half the "regions" (worldwide) the card has over 15GB used (of 32).
Am I correct in my assumption that "Country" covers ALL regions? Unfortunately this isn't explained anywhere & adding all of this data is most likely useless & could in fact slow down mapping!

  • Cannot download 3.06 ovi maps for 5800XM after har...

Cannot download 3.06 ovi maps for 5800XM after hard reset. Any clue what's going on?

Similar problem on my E71 phone after upgrading the firmware to 300.21.012
I.e., when I start the application - it closes in a half way. Uninstalling is impossible.
When I start Nokia Maps updater - it says:
"Error. Cannot update licenses. Missing phone info: IMSI or IMEI cannot be obtained (20)."
    Possible reason:
I've used Nokia Maps - Ovi beta before  updating  firmware to 300.21.012. After firmware update, I've updated Nokia Maps successfully with Nokia Maps Loader from the computer under Windows XP. But later I've restored phone info from backup, from another computer which is runing on Windows Vista. After restoring backup - I see my messages, etc., but Maps don't work at all (as written above).
Connecting through another computer (which runs under Windows Vista) - it says: "There are no new updates for your phone! Manage your maps and voices with Map Loader". But when I start Map loader - it looks as previous version loader; and allows only load voices, not maps. And still I can not start Maps in my E71 phone.
So how can I start using Nokia Maps again?
