Ovi map navigation crashes on E71

I have installed ovi maps on my E71. However, it crashes everytime within a minute of starting the navigation. Voice navigation will give the first instruction and then the E71 crashes to a dimmed white screen with the Nokia logo on it. The phone is not useable without a reboot. Any ideas?

Presumably you have Nokia_maps_3.03_10wk11_b04_s60_3.1_rom.Nocs.sis
available from here installed? http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-e71/
If you don't have this version with free voice navigation, it will crash without a license.
Otherwise try deleting E:\CITIES + .qf file, re-launch OVI Maps application on device to re-define necessary folder structure to utilise OVI Suite > Maps on your PC to re-download regional mapping.

  • How to install OVI Map navigation for N95

Ok, getting very frustrated with this now.  I have given my dad my N95 to help him get around but just cant get the map navigation to work.  I downloaded the Nokia Map Loader (I had to go to a third party website as the Nokia links were all broken) and have the map/voices but when my dad tries to use the navigation it tells him he has to pay.
Obviously, I know that Nokia have now made these services free to complete with other company's devices, I'm just being stupid and not going to the right place to download them.  When i go to www.nokia.com/maps on the phone it doesnt do anything.  I've been trying for over a day now and the phone has almost made contact with the wall a few times - sorry to be a numpty, but how do you install the OVI map navigation stuff on the N95! :-)

    @Cowes67
Let's clear up any misunderstanding here, upon N95 there is no legititimate way of obtaining free voice navigation with version of Ovi Maps upon N95 as you would need to purchase a license!
You should run Ovi Maps application with a microSD inserted in N95 which will re-create necessary folder structure for Nokia Suite > Maps to recognise it.
Please note that standalone version of Nokia Maploader apart from version for Mac users ceased to be functional several years ago.
I still have N95 in use so post again if any further queries over this issue.

  • My n8 ovi maps navigation - is Completley unreliab...

I was trying my new n8 ovi maps , navigating in Lithuania, before going on our family annual caravan summer trip.
This proved to be a catastrophe. The software is copleteley unreliable, and in fact , the worst navigation software I ever tried. Here are some of the issues:
    1. Navigation uses unpaved roads as default choice , even if I choose "no" on preferences.
    2. routs are often proven completely false, often misleading the user to dead ends or no road at all. This happens almost every time when traveling outside of the capital - Vilnius.
    3. Browsing the map on chosen rout during navigation is quite difficult and not useful.
    4. Addresses search is not practical , since it usually ask for exact address, and spelling mistakes are not recognized otherwise there are no results. This is very important when traveling abroad.
I was very disappointed , because the main reason I bought N8 , was of the promises for free navigation . We are planning to go on a trip within 2 weeks , and I don't know what to do.
is there any other good compatible navigation program ?
    can you solve these problems?
are these problems confined to Lithuania only (hard to believe)?

  • OVI MAPS NAVIGATION EXPIRED

@bbao back in July 2014, Nokia created a FAQ article, stating the discontinuation of paid Nokia Maps licences. There was no reason given. Obviously, that statement was wrong in parts. With the end of HERE support through Nokia (now ‘Microsoft Mobile’), they removed that FAQ article. ‘Therefore’, this link is broken now.
    bbao wrote:
Is it no longer an issue today?
Well, it is an issue in parts:
    Certificate Warning
    to workaround, install Nokia » Menu » Internet » traud.de/ta » intermediates » VeriSign …
transferring a licence to another SIM does not work for me, anymore
Please, do not even try! You are going to loose your lifetime licence for walking (City Explorer).
Nokia Maps » Options » Shop & licences: Does not update, anymore
buying any new licence does not work for me, anymore
All you can do is to renew an already bought region licence.
You need to start a journey (‘drive there’). Then, when you have a GPS lock and after 30 seconds, only then, you are able to renew your navigation licence for driving.

  • Ovi Map 3.0 on E71

    Hi,
I recently upgrade my nokia map to version 3.0. After that, whenever I use the nokia map, just the GPS function, it say a incompatiable license is found on my e71 and require me to check the license online. I try to reinstall the nokia map again, but it still not work. I tried update my license too, but no update is available. I can use my nokia map now. Could you provide me with some solutions?
    Thx

Did you purchase a license before you updated to Maps V3? If so did you try updating the license? Not sure from your post if you actually succesfully updated or not. Your phone has to be online when updating.
Anyway, to update your license details, start Nokia Maps, let Maps go online. Then goto Options>Shop&licences>My licences>Update.
If the update was not successful? what error message did you get?

  • Ovi Maps crashes continuously on N8

    Phone:
    PR1.2
    Custom version 014.002.269.03
    Product code 059C8T6
    Type RM-596
    Ovi Maps 3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com
    Map version 0.2.42.122
I have a newly bought N8. Each time I start Ovi Maps it crashes after around 0.5-5 minutes. No other applications are launched in parallel. I have tried to play switching on and off different positioning methods - it does not help. All the same, it crashes with any combination I have tried. Even if I switch off all the methods except built-in GPS, it crashes. I have restored the factory settings and reinstalled the OS. Before installing some applications, I have tried to start Ovi Maps - it crashes all the same.
It crashes in a strange way. It first freezes. Then in around 10 seconds the screen goes dark, then fully white and then the phone restarts. But it does not restart from the very beginning, as it does when you switch the phone off and switch it again (it shakes, then it asks SIM pin, then lock code). Instead, after Ovi Maps crash and the white screen, it shows the white screen with "nokia" on it (no pin codes are asked), then comes the desktop screen, no applications are running at this point yet, it does not react on the touch screen, no connection to the cell network. Then it starts to revive, connects to the GSM network, starts to react on the toch screen, on the button, refreshes the desktop, etc. It runs further as usual.
    The questions are:
    1) Is it a hardware or software problem?
    2) If it is a known software problem, is a remedy going to be included in the coming updates of the OS and or Ovi Maps?
    3) Are there some workarounds to have Ovi Maps in some form/regime running stable on my phone? Ovi Maps was really a decisive argument to buy the phone and now it turns out to be absolutely not usable...
    4) Would downgrading of Ovi Maps help? If yes, how can I get the version 3.04 of Ovi Maps for N8? Or could it be that some other distribution of Ovi Maps 3.06 is more stable? How could I get it?

aspergerguy, thanks a lot for your comments!
“I notice that you are using Ovi Maps 3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com which is not pre-installed in PR1.2 (v3.06 11wk07 b01) so you must have updated at some point after resetting device. Did you try setting up pre-installed version following prompts before updating this application?”
I cannot say for sure, it was a month ago. Probably, I did. As experiment, I would try v3.06 11wk07 b01, if I knew, where I could get it. Ovi Shop offers only the version I have installed on my phone.
Anyway, I believe, it will not help. I have tried other applications (e.g., Sport Tracker), where positioning is in use, they crash the same way as Ovi Maps. The crashes are not related specifically to Ovi Maps. I believe, it is a system issue with positioning.
“If you go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning server > Positioning server use - is it set to Auto. in home network?”
It was “always ask”, but I have changed it to “auto”. It does not help, the phone crashes as before.
“Did you try OVI Maps application whilst in USA (was it on TMO) before going to Germany?”
Yes, I did. It was with US at&t sim card and some German one. No difference, it was crashing the same way. It was also crashing without any sim card.
“There is obviously an issue with the Assisted GPS positioning method which unfortunately since OVI Maps v3.06 wants to make a lot more connections ( no you can't revert to v3.04 once vPR1.2 installed).”
There might be an issue with Assisted GPS, but it is far from being the only one. The telephone crashes if I have only the internal GPS switched on, the Assisted GPS and the network methods are switched off. It crashes all the same.
“As an experiment go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning server > Server settings - is just supl.nokia.com listed or anything else as well? - if nothing else go to Options > New server - add supl.google.com (if another network server @ 2 remove it). Whilst pinging this server as experiment is no issue there is no authorisation for continual use by Nokia device(s).”
This part I did not quite understand. I have included the second server in the settings, but how can I ping from the telephone? Should I install a ping application for that?
With the second server the telephone crashes as before. No changes.
“With regard to wired headset included you really do need to press it in hard until it "clicks".”
Great, thanks! Now it is working! One has to push it really hard…

  • Positioning Server on 5800 Ovi Maps

I keep getting the following message when using the new Ovi Maps Navigation - Connection to network positioning server required.  Costs may be incurred.  If I say no then I can continue and get the free navigation as advertised, but is there any way of stopping this message coming up?
    Solved!

MENU -> Apps -> Location -> Positioning Server (turn to DISABLED)
    Settings -> Connectivity -> Destinations ->
    1. Remove the STREAMING profile permanently by deleting the setting from telco.
    2. In the INTERNET section remove all the telco settings.
    3. In the MULTIMEDIA section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G MMS only and delete permanently the rest of it.
    4. In the WAP SERVICES section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G WAP only and delete permanently the rest of it.
Note: screenshot settings may vary from service providers, above is applicable for one of the Malaysian telco
The reason you are deleting the unwanted settings is a special cause which you will overcome the credit drain issue.

Nokia OVI Maps Online & Offline Map Searching Issue
    1. Setup your WiFi setting.
    2. Verify the WiFi functionality (browse some web page).
    3. Set the WiFi as 1st priority inside the destination (internet) setting.
    4. Set the WiFi as the default access point (for the internet).
    5. Delete the WAP / MMS / STREAMING settings and left the 3G Internet (as 2nd priority inside the internet setting).
    6. Edit the 3G internet setting and change the "password prompt" to YES.
    7. Load up the maps loader.
    8. Click on the delete maps from storage.
    9. Reload in the maps (at least the malaysia map must be selected).
    10. Load as well the voice guidance file.
    11. Wait for all the downloading and uploading finished.
    12. Run Location and disable the agps and network under positioning setting.
    13. Run the OVI maps.
    14. When the 3G internet prompt up select cancel (do not connect) (if it still pop up, suppose wont because we already disable A-GPS and network in Location setting).
    15. Go to setting and change the internet to online.
    16. Select appropiate voice guidance file.
    17. Go outside where more satelite can be search.
    18. Now go to my location and wait for the satelite to get a fix (might be take long since no agps)
    19. Make sure the red dot are "IN MALAYSIA".
    20. Change maps mode as SATELITE view to try the WiFi can download the satelite image (to ensure WiFi is working).
    21. Once confirm WiFi working switch back to maps view.
    22. Walk around and you will see the GPS is working already (since it already lock, red dot will turn SOLID RED and satellite bar should be green).
The most useful for the 3G internet password prompt when agps and network positioning enable:
    1. Select YES during the password prompt you will have A-GPS (fast lock with charges).
    2. Select CANCEL during the password prompt you will have full I-GPS (slow lock but FOC).
Steps 18 and 19 are needed because sometime during the first time OVI maps run it will set it "previous' location as some where maybe not within Malaysia and if this happen and you dont have those location maps downloaded in the database then it will direct download from the internet and who know which access point it gonna use (if it use 3G internet then you will lost lots of phone credits for those huge maps data), confirm this if you dont have the maps data install it will direct download the file.
Below is a screenshot shows, full OFFLINE guide, see the GPS INTERNET connection is striked out:

The method / settings above uses device to GPS satellite connection directyl, therefore please go outdoor for better coordinate locks.

  • Ovi maps problems with Nokia 5800 xpress music

Since Ovi updated the maps I've had trouble using it. I have version 40 firmware which was installed by Vodafone when my device expired. Despite the update, Ovi maps just crashes the phone when I try to use it. The screen goes blank and I get all coloured lines flashing down one side and the phone reluctantly restarts. Any advice please?

I am having exactly the same problem with my 5800 xpress music having updated to version 40.0.005.235.10 and installed the new version of OVI maps and the software Own Voice.
I have also tried reinstalling the sotware, restoring my phone to factory settings and resetting my phone by pressing the green, red and camera button whilst powering up. The problem persists. I will be making a call and within a few seconds of the call being connected the phone switches off and back on again. I also get the the coloured lines flasing on the screen.
Please Nokia Support, help us out.

  • Getting Ovi Maps to go online

Hi, I have a Nokia 5800 which originally was on a T Mobile contract when given to me by a family member but I have changed to Vodaphone.  Everything works fine including internet, but when I tried to use the maps program, it says it can't find an internet connection.  I think it may be trying to use orignal T Mobile route, but there seems to be no way of altering internet connection it now needs to use under the various settings.  I hope that makes sense.  Before posting any reply....please take into account I am 45 and mobile phone phobic........

    Hi amerkhalil
No apologies needed as your post makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately if your 5800XM is still running T-Mobile firmware it may not be recent enough to allow you to use the latest OVI Maps navigation for free, if you key in *#0000# on standby screen what version is displayed?
Whilst Nokia Maps is running go to Options > Tools > Settings > Internet and what value do you have against "Default access point"? If you press Options > Change - you should be able to choose from the available ones.
Please don't hesitate to post if anything needs further elaboration.

To find Ovi Maps for other phones visit Maps Support-http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/maps-support/compatibility-and-dow...
How to install and setup GPS in nokia E-71.
Firstly Install Nokia Ovi Suite (advance version of PC Suite) in your respected computer.
    http://www.nokia.co.in/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite
After installation of Nokia Ovi Suite go to following link
    http://www.nokia.co.in/explore-services/ovi-maps/downloads?intc=ncomexpserv-fw-ilc-lft-con-na-ncomex...
Now install the the second link file into your phone, i.e., "nokia_maps_3.03_10wk11_b04_s60_3.1_rom.Nocs.sis".
After successful installation connect your phone with data cable in PC Suite (DON'T run PC suite application in your system) mode and open Nokia Ovi Suite application in your system.
Now in Nokia Ovi Suite application click on View-Go to-Maps (make sure your system is connected to Internet and your mobile phone key pad doesn't get locked, if keypad autolock period is on switch it off for that moment and your phone is fully charged, now in maps select Asia in that India and download that India Map (103 MB) into your phone.
Please Note that do not disconnect your phone from data cable else maps will not get downloaded and will not to be
    transferred to your phone.
After successful installation of maps into your phone download "Voice Guidance Languages", which ever is preferred by you, if you really want to enjoy it. Like- English(UK)-with street names or in Hindi, Tamil, Urdu.
Now you are almost done, just take your phone into your hand,
Go to Maps then select Options-then Settings
Internet-Connection-Offline ( don't worry your GPS will work fine as data bearer is Nokia which is free of charge, so just relax).
    Navigation-Drive Guidance-Select the desired Voice
Walk Guidance-Select the desired Voice or you can set it to Beeps and Vibrations (if downloaded).
Home Location- define you home location by searching in maps, this will make easier to drive back to home by simply selecting Drive Home option while using navigation.
Now go to option Map-Categories-select the categories you want to be shown on the map.
Its DONE, now search for any desired location press the selection button and then select Drive to or Walk to option and you will be connected to GPS.
Please Note as GPS needs free environment so it may not work in home and generally it takes 10-15 minutes to connect so please be patient.
    Worked perfectly for me
By the way, why doesn't the maps application work if I doenload all the maps instead of only India map??

  • E71 no bluetooth map navigation

running latest firmware [400.21.013] on an E71 and Maps 3.01.
Have a paid up licence and voice Navigation [English] works fine until I switch to bluetooth in car.
Normal E71 phone bluetooth connection is fine, just stops voice Navigation when using bluetooth. Visual Nav works fine. Any ideas ?

I got here hoping to find an answer to the same question - it's silly that the voice isn't aloud when the handsfree kit is connected as we need to hear the navigation, but should not be handling the phone should anyone call us !
I *think* it might be a simple adjustment to the type of handsfree kit or the application so that Ovi knows it's not a simply a speaker.
Tools / Settings / General / Enhancement: Set Wireless Car Kit as default. I've no idea if this will work without getting in my car and driving somewhere - I tried whilst stationary and couldn't get the phone to say anything - even with the bluetooth disconnected. The other thing I'm thinking is to let it start the navigation and then switch the radio (and therefore the car kit) on to see if it makes a difference.
I updated the phone software and installed Ovi maps for the first time from a fresh download yesterday.
I wouldn't mind it using the bluetooth kit as a speaker if it meant I could hear it !

Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation
Mobile navigation for everyone, the Ovi Maps takes you where you want to be and shows you what you want see, with navigable maps for over 70 countries worldwide. All this with only one click. And it's all free.
    - Free Drive navigation
    - Free Walk navigation
    - Free maps and map updates
    - Free Events guides
    - Free Lonely Planet guides
    - Free Michelin guides
You thought Garmin and TomTom were in trouble when Google announced its free Navigation service? Wait until investors hear Nokia's news.
Reuters is reporting that Nokia will offer free navigation on its smartphones. However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries.
Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.
Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900.
Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Additional premium guides like a weather service and events / movies are also included. Just 10 devices from Nokia's massive catalog are available today a list that includes the N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6.

  • N6110 Navigation don't recognize loaded ovi maps

After reformatting my memory card, I had many troubles. Firstly the restore from pc suite didn't work. I tried to start the card program. I stopped after 50% with an error. After many hours and searching the intranet I could start the card program. It allocated the cities directory on the memory card. After that I could load maps from OVI. The problem is the the navigator software only shows the world card as active. I have 2 more route66 cards license but not active. On route 66 those cards are no more available (product not found).
HOw can I get the Ovi maps recognized in the navigator?
Thanks for your help. I am despaired. The Nokia navigator was the best software I ever have seen.

    @N6110
    Welcome to the forum!
Presumably as you can no longer utilise Route66 to work on your 6110 Navigator you have decided to install Nokia_Maps_2.0_4503_3.1.sis from http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-6110-...
Ironically although S60 3rd FP1 device it can not run OVI Maps v3.01
Have you got a spare formatted microSD you can insert and then open Nokia Maps application on device to re-initialise application and define folder structure?
In the days when there was a separate Maploader application (no longer works) I seem to remember device was connected in mass storage mode for Nokia Maps, but of course has to be connected in PC Suite mode for OVI Suite to recognise it.

If it was only Ovi Maps application involved I would have probably suggested deleting E:\cities which would be re-created next time you opened application, although any stored map data would be lost.
Provided that you backup essential data first you could always reset device to "Out of box" state by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 ( default Nokia lock code unless altered by user).
