Ovi Map uninstall?

I'm on PR 1.1 oin my N8.
Is there anyway to uninstall Ovi maps and start again as it doesn't seem to be working properly.
I have the latest beta, but I'm unable to load maps via device and have to do it via Ovi Suite on PC.
When I hit the map "Update" on device, it dims slightly but nothing runs.
Any ideas?

If you still can't get maps to work, go to application manager, installed apps and delete all Nokia/Ovi Maps applications including Check in, the phone will revert to the original version it had installed from the factory.
Then re-install the latest version from Beta labs and run it for about 5 minutes without installing any map data ( as recommended in the installation instructions) Then install the latest Map data with Ovi suite. You should the be good to go !

  • Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps - do I need both?

I am sure this question has been asked already but I cannot find it having spent some time doing a search.
The question is do I need both or can I dispense with one? If so, with what consequences?
The position is that I tried to update Ovi maps but couldn't because there was insufficient space on drive C, so I thought I would delete it and then I would be able to install the new version. Unfortunately wrong again - still insufficient space on drive C. Hence my question - do I need both maps? Life would be easier just with Nokia maps in the circumstances.

Thanks. Can I take it that Nokia Maps is pre-installed? Would I be correct in concluding that I can delete Ovi Maps to save space and just update Nokia Maps from time to time?
If Nokia Maps is not updated from time to time I would need to install Ovi Maps to keep up-to-date?
I have I think deleted Ovi Maps but I still have Maps. In fact I am fairly certain I have all the maps I downloaded from OVi Maps. When I run Maps the screen refers to "Ovi Maps". Perhaps I haven't uninstalled Ovi Maps at all although the programme said that I had! Perhaps it is Ovi Maps that is pre-installed.
Sorry but I remain confused and hope I can through this tread clear it up once and for all.

  • Ovi maps and Nokia Maps

I have recently downloaded the ovi maps update for free navigation on my 5800 however now I seem to have 2 programs in my installed apps menu, Ovi maps and Nokia maps. This is causing me some problems as my phones built in memory is now completely full and I am unable to do some things as I have ran out of on phone memory space. Which one is the main map software? And also can I uninstall one? If not then can it be installed on a MSD card and if yes how?

As far as I can determine Ovi maps is the mapping software (program) which installs to C (phone memory) and Nokia maps is the map data that you have loaded which I believe are installed to E (mass memory).
I can confirm that you do need both installed.
The problem as far as I can see is that the previous maps versions 3.01 is built into the current firmware (v20 for N97 - not sure for 5800) and installing maps 3.03 does not remove or overwrite the earlier version so you end up with both versions installed and thus the extra memory footprint.
This will remain a problem until a newer firmware is released which will hopefully have maps 3.03 (or later depending when next firmware is released) thus reducing the extra 9 megs or so used.
    Hope this answers your question

Unfortunally I would recommend a factory reset of the device
You cant uninstall Ovi Maps 3.06, and if you get a system error its usually the software that isnt installed properly somehow.
If you dont already got it, download and install Nokia Ovi Suite from www.nokia.com/ovisuite
Start Ovi Suite and follow the guide to connect your phone.
Do a Backup of your phones content via Tools -> Backup (in Ovi Suite)(Be aware that e-mail accounts and programs might not be in the backup)
    Disconnect phone from computer
On the phone press Call, then typ *#7370#
Phone will restart.(This will remove your personal content from Phone memory and Mass memory)
Set time and Date (and timezone) correctly on the phone.
    Connect phone to Ovi Suite.
In Ovi Suite choose Tools -> Restore.
Restore your backup (I would advice you to not restore 'settings')
Try and download latest Ovi Maps via Ovi Store in phone.

  • N8 Ovi Maps Lags Actual Location

I thought I read about this problem somewhere but cannot remember where.  I tried searching but did not really find an answer.
When I use Ovi Maps on my N8, either just as a map while driving or to navigate, it appears the icon representing my current location is always a little behind my actual position.  For instance, when my car is in the middle of an intersection Ovi Maps shows that position only after I am a few car lengths past the intersection.  This happens at all speeds.  I have it zoomed in a fair amount so that I can read all the street names.  This makes it hard to navigate where there are roads really close together since you cannot easily tell where to turn.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jay

The latest version from the Ovi store did not correct the issue.  I also uninstalled Nokia Bubbles (along with downgrading Qt framework) and still have the problem.  I just installed the latest Ovi Maps from Beta Labs and also upgraded my maps, still have the problem.
As mentioned I have the zoom level set to where the red triangle is about twice the size of main roads (not sure how to read the gauge - might be 230 yrds or so).  I have the map auto-rotating around my position.  In non-navigating driving (i.e., no destination set) the red triangle is centered on a side road when I am completely thru the intersection, sometimes by a car length.  This may not sound like a problem and most times it is easy to figure out, but where I live there are side streets very close to one another and at times it is difficult to know which one to turn.  Also, the rotating/scrolling of the map does not appear to be very smooth or quick, but I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to work.  Also not sure if there is some delay when the map moves (i.e., only every half-second it is updated, etc.).
Anyhow, I am trying to figure out if it is a problem with the N8 GPS, other N8 hardware, etc.
    Thanks

  • Ovi Map cannot run on N95

I just upgraded the phone software and installed Ovi maps on my N95. After I completed, I cannot launch Ovi map at all. I was prompted to reinstall it by the system. I've done so but it doesn't help at all. Can anyone help me out here?

    Hi,
this was an issue in one of the pretty old versions of Access Connection. And since then this was fixed.
In case you see this kind of situation in the current/latest version of Access Connection, then this might be due to following fact:
You don't have the latest versions of following applications:
    - Power Management driver
    - Power Manager
    - System interface driver
    - Hotkey utility
    - Wifi driver
In case you do, then I assume that Access Connection (AC) was installed BEFORE the above apps were installed.
So in this case I would advice to uninstall Access Connection, clear the regitry and %programfiles% from all the entries, that belong to AC. the reboot the machine, make sure, that you have the .net 2.0, 2.0 SP1 , 3.0 and 3.5 version also installed and registered. And once all this is met, which is BTW the prereq for AC , install AC and reboot the machine.
I think, this should help you out, as it worked by multiple other situations.
If not, then plase let me know some more details, as I would like to reproduce this situation.
    Cheers

  • Nokia X6-00 16GB - Ovi Maps 3.06 won't install

Currently I'm using Ovia Maps 3.04 but I have an update to 3.06 for this model.
When I try to install this update via Nokia Ovi Suite, the upgrade goes bad with message inducating the update service has an error.
When I manually download the update and double click this in Windows Explorer, the update gets loaded and starts the installation with some preview information. After some time the message 'file not found' appears and then the message 'Instalation successful' apears. When I start Ovi Maps, the version number is still at 3.04
When I copy the installation-file to the Installations folder on the device itself and open this via the menu, the same happens.
After these install I tried restarting the device and recheck for any changes but the 3.04 version still is used.
Uninstalling the current version won't help either. The 3.04 version still resides. The funny this thing is when I try to re-install 3.06 the device replies to overwrite the current version (3.06) with the new version (3.06). This was previously 3.06 over 3.04. It looks like it's installed but the Ovi Maps programs shows 3.04 instead? Got me kinda goofed...
Other updates like Ovi Music 11.4 and Facebook do install successfully. So the device or firmware isn't broken or something. Re-installed 32.0.002 firmware and tries the above again to no avail.
    Some information
    Model: Nokia X6-00 16GB
Firmware 32.0.002 (the lastest for this model)
    Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.0.91
Full battery when trying the above
Connected to pc with provided USB cable
PC -> Windows XP profiessional SP3 with all the updates installed (system and hardware)
What can I do to fix this so I can use version 3.06 from Ovi Maps? Do I need to revert back to Factory settings? (I have a full backup ready to use)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your post is incorrect, because the problem is that the program is installing but not being read, rather it is a system file issue.
As I said, It's happened to me before. I have 3 different versions of 3.06 on my PC and none worked. Only after a hard reset did it work. It happens when you 3.06 gets uninstalled improperly, some file used for recognition remains, and interferes with the system reading the app. No matter how many times you'd try to install, system file associations have already been corrupted. This is akin to installation errors in Windows where reinstalling wont make it work or clean everything out because there are registry fragments left.

  • Ovi Maps 3.0 exits when attempting to change inter...

I installed Ovi Maps 3.0 on my N95 (firmware V31.0.017).  I just used it for two weeks on a trip to the US, and it worked great!  Much better than Nokia Maps 2 in my opinion :-)
After one week however, I suddenly could no longer change the internet settings in Ovi Maps.  When I selected Options > Tools > Settings > Internet, Ovi Maps would hang for about 5 seconds and then quit.  Initially this worked well though.
The annoying thing is that, at the time when this first occured, the Internet access point in my Ovi Maps application was set to the WLAN network in my local hotel in the US.  I could continue to go online in my hotel, but no longer e.g. via the cellular network.  Now that I'm back home in Europe, I have no means to go online anymore.
I thought I'd simply uninstall Ovi Maps 3.0 and install it fresh.  Unfortunately, "simply uninstalling Ovi Maps" seems to be an issue, as is clear from several other postings in this forum.  To uninstall applications, one would think of using the Application Manager on the phone or in PC Suite.  However, the former doesn't list Ovi Maps on my N95, while the latter doesn't show *any* of the installed applications on my N95.  Both phenomena have been reported elsewhere, and seem to be dependent on the phone model.
    So here are my questions:
    1) Does anyone have an idea why Ovi Maps may quit when attempting to change the internet settings?
    2) Is there any other way to cleanly uninstall Ovi Maps 3.0?
    Thanks!
    Gert
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I managed to resolve the problem I reported above.
Since my Ovi Maps app always quit when attempting to go online, except when the connection was made through the WLAN access point of my illustrious US hotel, I tried the following:
In the main menu of my phone, I opened Tools > Settings > Connection > Access points.  This showed a long list of access points I have been using over the past year or so.  I located the access point of the illustrious hotel, and deleted it from the list.  Then, when I started Ovi Maps again, and went to Tools > Settings > Internet, it again allowed me to define my desired access point, without quitting.
In conclusion, leaving a WLAN access point setting in Ovi Maps that you won't be able to connect to anymore, can be unsafe.  I don't know if there was anything specific to the particular access point that I used.  (The hotel itself was good though ;-)  Nokia people who read this posting may want to look into this?

  • How to install ovi maps in N79

Hi, I tried map loader 3.0 but all it do is to download maps from internet to the phone, but what I am concerned about is updating the maps 2.0 application itself to 3.0. Any suggestions on how to do this.
I do not think I can uninstall maps using standard method as it is part of firmware?
    Thanks

I'm actually having the same question but nokia maps updater is for updating maps, but what should i do in case if i uninstalled ovi maps from my device?
Let me first explain abit what i did and what didn't work for me:
I updated the original maps appilcation on n79 that came with firmware 11.049 through ovi suit application. then i decided to uninstall it and what i did is i removed it from add/remove system from the phone. i tried to open the old maps icon in the main menu it fails "can't open the following application. the newest version is under nokia.maps". i gave ovi maps updater a try but it fails to read data from my phone. so i searched over the internet for maps 2.0 .sis file and found it under the following link http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_Maps_2.0_4503_3.1_u.sis then i opened it with ovi suit. the thing is that the installation ends successfully but when i try to open maps application again from the menu, i get the same error as before and the installed version isn't listed in add/remove menu. i tried to reinstall the firmware, but it didn't reinstall the original maps.
What should i do now? is the only way to format my phone and install the firmware again?

  • History missing within Ovi Maps (latest version)?

    Hi There..
With the trial I had with 3.0.1 I was able to use Maps and it's history. When I clicked to travel by car, set destination, I was able to select 'History' there.
The strange thing is, since I upgrade to 3.0.3 / FW40 (latest free version) the 'History' option was gone. Only Search and From maps are still available. I did a lot of navigation since the installation but the 'History' button did not came back..
At first I thought it was something with the software but I did a Hard-Reset (Camera+Green+Red) and did an update using SW-update. Still the same. I formatted my microSD card just before I did the reset just to make sure it wasn't the data on the card.
I also downloaded the Europe maps for offline instalation but this does not resolve the issue.
Any ideas? I could not find an answer on the internet. History accessible after upgrade from FW v31 to v40. Why is it gone on my Nokia 5800 Express Music (FW 40.005)?
    Thanks in advance,
    With kind regards.

    1. If you're running on the latest version for your product code and it states in the page on maps.ovi that your version is compatible, it should be fine.
    2. Installing to phone memory or mass memory - you got nothing,. Nothing you ever do will make the map application install to anything other than phone memory.
    3. What you should do first is go to Maps>Settings(wrench)>Map>Maximum memory in use. As much as possible it should be set to 50% and above. I have mine set to 70%. It may be that the phone is not saving history since you have already consumed the memory you alloted to the maps application. Also please check that it is set to use mass memory/memory card, as even if the application is saved to the phone, the maps advisably should be in the mass memory due to its size.Try to use it a few times and see if it finally saves history.
    4. Failing in the above procedure, you should delete all maps, uninstall both ovi and nokia maps, and then delete the cities and qf files in the phone and/or mass memories. Turn off your phone and remove battery for 5 min, then reboot and install.
    5. If the above procedure still fails, you may have to consider a hard reset.

  • N97 Ovi maps clashing with Google maps or sports t...

I have a UK Vodafone N97, Had Ovi maps working a treat and really pleased with it.  However, I just installed google maps and then Nokia Sports tracker.  Sports tracker wouldn't "track " at all and this then stopped Ovi maps from finding a signal.
However, Google maps finds 3-5 satellites and plots very quickly so I know the GPS receiver is working fine.
I uninstalled Sports tracker and Google maps, deleted all Ovi map data and did a soft reset, then re-installed Ovi maps for the UK  ( I can not delete Ovi maps app from the phone, software V21)
I still cannot get a lock with Ovi maps but having put Google maps back on, that works fine!!
Any thoughts other than a hard reset as I have so much installed on the phone.
    Thanks,
    Martin

Google maps uses a different server, and installing it may have changed the server settings in the phone location settings. Go to Menu>Apps>Location>Positioning>Positioning Server> make sure that the server is still supl.nokia.com

Cannot download 3.06 ovi maps for 5800XM after hard reset. Any clue what's going on?

Similar problem on my E71 phone after upgrading the firmware to 300.21.012
I.e., when I start the application - it closes in a half way. Uninstalling is impossible.
When I start Nokia Maps updater - it says:
"Error. Cannot update licenses. Missing phone info: IMSI or IMEI cannot be obtained (20)."
    Possible reason:
I've used Nokia Maps - Ovi beta before  updating  firmware to 300.21.012. After firmware update, I've updated Nokia Maps successfully with Nokia Maps Loader from the computer under Windows XP. But later I've restored phone info from backup, from another computer which is runing on Windows Vista. After restoring backup - I see my messages, etc., but Maps don't work at all (as written above).
Connecting through another computer (which runs under Windows Vista) - it says: "There are no new updates for your phone! Manage your maps and voices with Map Loader". But when I start Map loader - it looks as previous version loader; and allows only load voices, not maps. And still I can not start Maps in my E71 phone.
So how can I start using Nokia Maps again?

    Hi guys,

Hi, assuming you have the latest map app and your settings are ok everything should work ! Just in case, try this:
first connect phone to computer and use Nokia Software Updater or Ovi suite to check you have the latest software update.
Second go Menu-settings-application mngr.-installed apps.-scroll down to Ovi Maps/Nokia maps and select options-uninstall, do this for all maps software.
Third , go menu-Applications and scroll down to Location app and open positioning-positioning methodsand tick everything except Bluetooth GPS
Now go here and download the correct version for your phone and install this (the bottom download not the first one)
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-beta-for-mobile/download_and_installation
Finally using Nokia Map Loader, remove all old maps on phone and download the maps for your region and install them to your phone, all should be fine
If it isn't you may need to do a soft reset which will take your phone back to 'out of the box' but you will have to set it all up again, and will need to backup your contacts'calendar and notes, NOTHING else, as settings may be causing your problem !! Then set up your phone again . If you don't have loads of apps and music etc on the phone I suggest soft reset first, then install maps as described.
Soft reset by dialling *#7370# followed by 12345 and phone will reset and be like new.

  • OVI maps locks when exiting 5800

Was running 3.03 all working well then updated to 3.04 when I exited maps if I pressed the white button on phone it would show that maps was still running, if I tried to open maps screen would go black the only way to close it was to restart phone. I deleted 3.04 and this reverted it back to 3.01 but the problem continued, so I did a back up and then did a hard start (hold down green and red button and camera then start phone) Still did not correct problem any suggestions
