Ovi Maps 3.04 - Speed limit warner settings

Hi,
Can someone explain how to correctly set the options for the Speed Limit Warner on Ovi Maps 3.04? I'm kind of confused here...
Also, I would like to know how these options differ from the Safety Spot Warner option?
Thanks in advance!

Firstly select imperial or metric, then decide what speed over the limit you wish to activate the warning. Mine is set at 2mph up to 50mph and 3mph over 50mph.  In drive mode the speed indicator (bottom left) shows green, but when exceeding 32mph in a 30mph area turns red and emits a warning. Subsequently in a 60mph limit, exceeding 63mph produces a warning.  The map software detects the road speed limits, and this is an excellent safety feature. In respect of police safety cameras and mobile speeding units the general concensus is that a tolerance of 10% + 2mph is used to counter inaccurate speedometers.  Also note that the speed displayed by the map is by GPS (more accurate than a speedometer).  Hope this helps!

On France maps version 02.43.117, speed camera location have been removed from Ovi Maps whereas it works on the previous map versions !
A new menu called "danger zone" is displayed into setting. I checked the france map but i didn't see any danger zone...
So how "danger zone" works ? How to edit the danger zone list and adding it on the map ( with the speed limit and an overspeed warning like it previously worked ) with this new feature named "danger" zone ?

    Welcome to the forum!
This is interesting, could you check for me in E:\Cities\diskcache\safetyspots what version of 1.0.0.**.europe.cdt you have installed?
AFAIK the IRB on May 11,2011 took immediate action to ban "The warning radars , which are an incitement to violate the rules on speed limits" to fight against the increase in road deaths recorded on French roads since the beginning of the year and the relaxation in behavior that is the cause. (apologies for the translation).
I notice that if using 1.0.0.42.europe.cdt with OVI Maps v3.08Beta "Offline" I get this result:

  • Ovi Maps 3.0 exits when attempting to change inter...

I installed Ovi Maps 3.0 on my N95 (firmware V31.0.017).  I just used it for two weeks on a trip to the US, and it worked great!  Much better than Nokia Maps 2 in my opinion :-)
After one week however, I suddenly could no longer change the internet settings in Ovi Maps.  When I selected Options > Tools > Settings > Internet, Ovi Maps would hang for about 5 seconds and then quit.  Initially this worked well though.
The annoying thing is that, at the time when this first occured, the Internet access point in my Ovi Maps application was set to the WLAN network in my local hotel in the US.  I could continue to go online in my hotel, but no longer e.g. via the cellular network.  Now that I'm back home in Europe, I have no means to go online anymore.
I thought I'd simply uninstall Ovi Maps 3.0 and install it fresh.  Unfortunately, "simply uninstalling Ovi Maps" seems to be an issue, as is clear from several other postings in this forum.  To uninstall applications, one would think of using the Application Manager on the phone or in PC Suite.  However, the former doesn't list Ovi Maps on my N95, while the latter doesn't show *any* of the installed applications on my N95.  Both phenomena have been reported elsewhere, and seem to be dependent on the phone model.
    So here are my questions:
    1) Does anyone have an idea why Ovi Maps may quit when attempting to change the internet settings?
    2) Is there any other way to cleanly uninstall Ovi Maps 3.0?
    Thanks!
    Gert
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I managed to resolve the problem I reported above.
Since my Ovi Maps app always quit when attempting to go online, except when the connection was made through the WLAN access point of my illustrious US hotel, I tried the following:
In the main menu of my phone, I opened Tools > Settings > Connection > Access points.  This showed a long list of access points I have been using over the past year or so.  I located the access point of the illustrious hotel, and deleted it from the list.  Then, when I started Ovi Maps again, and went to Tools > Settings > Internet, it again allowed me to define my desired access point, without quitting.
In conclusion, leaving a WLAN access point setting in Ovi Maps that you won't be able to connect to anymore, can be unsafe.  I don't know if there was anything specific to the particular access point that I used.  (The hotel itself was good though ;-)  Nokia people who read this posting may want to look into this?

  • OVI maps shuts down without warning

We have the latest version of OVI maps on both our phone (Nokia E71 and Nokia C5).
    when using the Drive-To Navigation.
Sometimes, without any warning, the phone screen goes black, a Nokia logo is briefly displayed, and both the phones go back to their respective homescreens.
Now, it's a bit annoying when this happens at a key point on the journey.
(We know it's not the screen-saver starting, so can rule that out)
Ovi maps is then no longer listed as one of the phones open applications.
So we have to then re-open Ovi Maps, re-input our desired destination, and start our navigation all over again.
It then continues to work fine... until at some random point it'll happen again.

I take it the original post referred to Maps version 3.01. I occasionally have a similar problem with v3.01, and it's only when A-GPS is active. You can try using A-GPS to get a quick lock, and then after a few minutes disconnect from the internet (i.e. rely solely on the GPS satellites). From within Maps: Options--> Tools--> Go Offline.
See if you continue to have problems.

  • Nokia E72 encryption & OVI Maps

    Hi,
I have two issues about the E72:
    1. My E72 came with a 4GB microSD card with OVI Maps installed on it. Unfortunately there are only 1023 MB free out of 4GB, so I planned to buy a bigger card. I would like toi know if I can simply copy all the data from the opriginal 4GB card to the new one? Will the applications still work?
    2. If I enable phone memory encryption in my phone, some applications stop working, i.e. OVI Maps does not work anymore, OVI Store stops working. I have to disable the phone memory encryption in order applications restart working. Is there a way to havbe phone memory enabled and still have the applications working fine?
    Thanks.

    beowulfpt wrote:
I did stop using encryption as there is a slight loss of speed and overall I concluded that it was not really safe since people could access my data without knowing the lock code. (a probable exploit scenario using Voyager Home screen). I mentioned that in another post (no one seemed to worry).
As far as I can tell, in that setup encryption is useless and ends up being annoying (because Nokia forced a maximum of 20 minute time-out for the lock in that case, meaning that it auto-locks sometimes when not handy.... while navigating in the car, listening to audiobooks, etc).
    /t5/Eseries-Devices-and/Nokia-E72-Bypassing-RAM-Card-encryption/m-p/658040#M64312
Going to reply to my own post saying that the annoying 20 minute limit for auto-lock when encryption is still enforced in the new firmware released this week (051).
If you are using encryption, it is not possible to have it set to higher values.
I'm re-encrypting my E72 (ram and card) to see how it performs now. Maybe it still crashes some apps when it auto-locks, making it useless for instance for trips while GPS navigating.
Will need to test to see if it is still possible to bypass the mem+card encryption code using JBakTaskman/Voyager Home as it was before... but I bet they didn't fix it.
Lame Nokia, lame... strong encryption still not useful.

  • OVI Maps on 5800XM Questions

Hey there! Recently downloaded the new OVI Maps 3.03, and I have to say, I love it! (But then don't we all love free stuff?)
I have a few questions, however, I was hoping somebody could answer.
When in 'My Position' mode, the map moves to follow you as you move, however, it does not rotate. Is this due to the 5800's lack of a built in compass? If not, how can I enable this? Pressing the compass icon achieves nothing. Is there a way to manually rotate the map? Again, messing about with the compass icon has no yieled results.
In navigation mode, when a route has been set, your current speed is shown, along with warnings when you go too fast, along with speed camera information. Is there anyway to activate these features without setting a route? I'd like these features when I'm out on a random drive, and have not decided a destination. E.g. having them in 'My Position' mode.
Also, I do not have a data package, and so have A-GPS disabled, in Locations -> Positioning settings under applications, and have only integrated GPS activated. I've been wondering whether there is a charge for Network Positioning though? It seems as if all it does it find the mast you're connected to...
    Thanks in advance!

You can find how to calibrate the Compass on previous thread :

  • N97:Ovi Maps crashes after a few seconds

On N97 I had Ovi maps working like a breeze for some weeks now. All of a sudden I see this behaviour. Open Ovi Maps, see the main page, click on My Location the map appears a message about connecting might cost you something and the Ovi Maps disappears.
What should I do the get Ovi Maps working againg. Oh, btw Internet works just fine.

The original maps app that came with the phone will always be there (like music player or photo viewer or web browser) Maps 3.04 works fine on my N97. Best way to install is to remove (as you said you did) all Nokia/Ovi maps from Installed Applications, then download Ovi Maps 3.04 Beta from Nokia Beta Labs. Then use Nokia Maps Loader on PC to first remove old maps, followed by downloading and installing the map data for your region onto the phone (the stuff the Maps app uses to find where you are and to navigate) to avoid having to download 'on the fly', this speeds everything up and avoids data usage. Maps should then work fine ! Well it works for me !!
    Good Luck

Unfortunally I would recommend a factory reset of the device
You cant uninstall Ovi Maps 3.06, and if you get a system error its usually the software that isnt installed properly somehow.
If you dont already got it, download and install Nokia Ovi Suite from www.nokia.com/ovisuite
Start Ovi Suite and follow the guide to connect your phone.
Do a Backup of your phones content via Tools -> Backup (in Ovi Suite)(Be aware that e-mail accounts and programs might not be in the backup)
    Disconnect phone from computer
On the phone press Call, then typ *#7370#
Phone will restart.(This will remove your personal content from Phone memory and Mass memory)
Set time and Date (and timezone) correctly on the phone.
    Connect phone to Ovi Suite.
In Ovi Suite choose Tools -> Restore.
Restore your backup (I would advice you to not restore 'settings')
Try and download latest Ovi Maps via Ovi Store in phone.

  • Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation

Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation
Mobile navigation for everyone, the Ovi Maps takes you where you want to be and shows you what you want see, with navigable maps for over 70 countries worldwide. All this with only one click. And it's all free.
    - Free Drive navigation
    - Free Walk navigation
    - Free maps and map updates
    - Free Events guides
    - Free Lonely Planet guides
    - Free Michelin guides
You thought Garmin and TomTom were in trouble when Google announced its free Navigation service? Wait until investors hear Nokia's news.
Reuters is reporting that Nokia will offer free navigation on its smartphones. However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries.
Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.
Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900.
Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Additional premium guides like a weather service and events / movies are also included. Just 10 devices from Nokia's massive catalog are available today a list that includes the N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6.

  • OVI map problem with E52

    Hi,
Iv been using E52 for the past 11 months and loved the way OVI maps worked but about 2 months back i had some serious problem related to keypad and since the customer care couldn't fix it they replaced it with a new E52. I am not able to use OVI Maps properly on this new E52 meaning my current location is being shown and also in the search option I am able to search for places but when I am selecting the location and opting for drive to or walk to option then the waiting for GPS option keeps me waiting forever. With my previous E52 this problem never exsisted and the route map was created immidiately. I dont mind using the map service over the GPRS instead of GPS. I have updated the firmware and also installed the latest nokia OVI map software, updated the maps but still facing the problem.
    Please Advise.

    @Manish4ever
    Welcome to the forum!
I am assuming that you will have the same functions as on my E72 a similar S60 3rd FP2 device.
Suggest that you go to Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings > General > scroll down list to "Positioning"  > Positioning methods - temporarily disable ALL except Integrated GPS, go outside away from tall buildings if feasible, open OVI Maps application and wait 20 -30 minutes necessary for it to establish very first positional lock.

  • N97 how to remove ovi maps to get memory free

My phone always says not enough memory.
Because the OVI maps cost a lot of money when i am outside my country even when i use offline.
I decided to remove ovi maps complete to to get memory free.
So first i removed NOKIA MAPS and OVI Maps Wi-Fi/Network from application manager , installed maps.
But unfortunately OVI Maps is still on my phone.
So I tried to remove it from the menu with Optione Organize. But the delete will not show up.
Can anyone help so i get some memory free ?
    With Kind Regards,

Whats the real issue ? Do you want to regain Memory really or ONLY because OVI Maps cost lot of money (???) . Because with proper settings OVI Maps will be totally FREE anywhere in the world.. Refer this ..
Maps should be pre-installed and set to Offline mode. Use only Integrated GPS Positioning method... and there should not be any cost incurred...

  • "Last devices used" menu every second over Ovi map...

    Hello all,
I installed Ovi Maps on my phone, and have a huge problem with it: Every second the"Last devices used" pops up and goes away again.
Since a few years I own (and use) a Nokia N95, and I just used 'Setup Nokia Maps Update 1.0.8.exe' to get Ovi maps on my phone. Apparently I had to use 'Nokia Software Updater' to make sure I got the latest version. Done that too.Next step is to use the Nokia Map Loader to get the maps on there. Done that too.
Here is the version info of the installed map:
I have Bluetooth enabled. Now, when I use the maps, every second the"Last devices used" pops up and goes away again. Mildly irritating would be a severe understatement here. Switching Bluetooth off and starting the map again gives the question "Bluetooth is currently switched off. Switch on?". Every second. It seems impossible to answer the popup-question or do something with the popup-menu.
Is this a known prob by anyone, and can you please tell me a fix or workaround (preferably a fix of course)?
    Thank you,
    wlamee

And I got a nippy reply from the Benelux Nokia Care.
The trick is I had to go to Tools -> Settings -> General -> Positioning -> Positioning Methods, and switch off 'Bluetooth GPS'. I think I always ahd this switched on and it never complained with the standard Nokia maps, but I'm not sure - I think I saw that menu only once, when I was palying with my GPS and the original maps.
    But hey, it's fixed. Cool!

  • OVI Maps - Check In

After getting an Update Maps text the other day I installed the new OVI Maps.
When I try to use the CHECK IN function I keep getting the message "There are currently network problems. Please try again later" after clicking Update my position.
Anyone any idea as to why this is happening?
    I have a Nokia X6 on firmware version 30.0.003
    Thanks

I've got exactly the same problem on my E52.
After installing the latest version of software for my phone - 052.003.283.01 - and the latest Ovi Maps - 3.04 - Ovi Maps don't check in - don't work in online mode. All my settings are ok, other aplications can use internet connections - but Ovi Maps appear to be permanently in offline mode (even that "online" mode is set).
Everytime I try to use internet connection in Ovi Maps, I get the same message - though in Polish
    What is going on?

  • Positioning Server on 5800 Ovi Maps

I keep getting the following message when using the new Ovi Maps Navigation - Connection to network positioning server required.  Costs may be incurred.  If I say no then I can continue and get the free navigation as advertised, but is there any way of stopping this message coming up?

MENU -> Apps -> Location -> Positioning Server (turn to DISABLED)
    Settings -> Connectivity -> Destinations ->
    1. Remove the STREAMING profile permanently by deleting the setting from telco.
    2. In the INTERNET section remove all the telco settings.
    3. In the MULTIMEDIA section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G MMS only and delete permanently the rest of it.
    4. In the WAP SERVICES section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G WAP only and delete permanently the rest of it.
Note: screenshot settings may vary from service providers, above is applicable for one of the Malaysian telco
The reason you are deleting the unwanted settings is a special cause which you will overcome the credit drain issue.

Nokia OVI Maps Online & Offline Map Searching Issue
    1. Setup your WiFi setting.
    2. Verify the WiFi functionality (browse some web page).
    3. Set the WiFi as 1st priority inside the destination (internet) setting.
    4. Set the WiFi as the default access point (for the internet).
    5. Delete the WAP / MMS / STREAMING settings and left the 3G Internet (as 2nd priority inside the internet setting).
    6. Edit the 3G internet setting and change the "password prompt" to YES.
    7. Load up the maps loader.
    8. Click on the delete maps from storage.
    9. Reload in the maps (at least the malaysia map must be selected).
    10. Load as well the voice guidance file.
    11. Wait for all the downloading and uploading finished.
    12. Run Location and disable the agps and network under positioning setting.
    13. Run the OVI maps.
    14. When the 3G internet prompt up select cancel (do not connect) (if it still pop up, suppose wont because we already disable A-GPS and network in Location setting).
    15. Go to setting and change the internet to online.
    16. Select appropiate voice guidance file.
    17. Go outside where more satelite can be search.
    18. Now go to my location and wait for the satelite to get a fix (might be take long since no agps)
    19. Make sure the red dot are "IN MALAYSIA".
    20. Change maps mode as SATELITE view to try the WiFi can download the satelite image (to ensure WiFi is working).
    21. Once confirm WiFi working switch back to maps view.
    22. Walk around and you will see the GPS is working already (since it already lock, red dot will turn SOLID RED and satellite bar should be green).
The most useful for the 3G internet password prompt when agps and network positioning enable:
    1. Select YES during the password prompt you will have A-GPS (fast lock with charges).
    2. Select CANCEL during the password prompt you will have full I-GPS (slow lock but FOC).
Steps 18 and 19 are needed because sometime during the first time OVI maps run it will set it "previous' location as some where maybe not within Malaysia and if this happen and you dont have those location maps downloaded in the database then it will direct download from the internet and who know which access point it gonna use (if it use 3G internet then you will lost lots of phone credits for those huge maps data), confirm this if you dont have the maps data install it will direct download the file.
Below is a screenshot shows, full OFFLINE guide, see the GPS INTERNET connection is striked out:
Credits to my friend sklchan from Lowyat.NET - Malaysia's Tech Enthusiast Resource Community
The method / settings above uses device to GPS satellite connection directyl, therefore please go outdoor for better coordinate locks.

  • Avoid internet connections when using ovi maps.

I own a E60 and have the latest version of Ovi Maps for Belgium on my cell phone.
In my internet settings I mentioned: connection -> Offline. As such I expected not to connect to internet at all and only usethe local maps.
But my last bill mentioned quite a few internet-connections. Is this in order to search (faster) for my own position ? If yes, is there a way to avoid these connections ? If not, any idea what another reason could be (although I don't use mail-functions, ... on my cell phone) ?

    Hi Chessness,
If you have set your connection to Offline mode, your maps will not connect any more. So your case should be caused because of some other application or feature of the mobile.
Try to check if you have any application (like social networking apps or weather app, etc..) which use internet to function. Also check if you have any settings enabled in your phone to use internet (like check for automatic software update or somehting like that). You can take the timing of the usages from your bill, that might help you to understand your phone usage more.
