Ovi Maps Compatability Guide Updated for Maps 3.04

I think a lot of people have a hard time figuring out which version of maps they should get and where they can get it from, so I made a chart and stuck it on a Blogger page. I hope everyone finds it useful.

I have Nokia N82 which is uses Nokia Maps 3.01, its maps is very useful for me but seems maps updates has discontinued for this version, because after several updates for 3.06/3.07/3.08/3.09 still nothing for 3.01!
What is going on? No service for old phones? is this nokia's strategy to force people buying windows phone?

Whilst this remains the last version of Ovi Maps v3.01 for use with your N82, N95 the last set of map data for 00.01.29.100 for use with it was released in December 2012.
For S60 5th Ed. devices the cut off was Nokia Maps v3.06 and latest being v3.09 in Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 for Symbian S^3 devices.
It is only the maps application which hasn't advanced as S60 3rd Ed. FP1 devices do not have available resources to use the extra transportation layer in 00.02.50.103 map data.

New Update for Ovi Maps 3.07 Beta for Symbian^3

Just a quick heads up to say there has been a minor update to the Beta version of Maps, obviously there can be issues with Beta applications, but I've been using it without any issues Worth a try ! Can be found here

Ovi Maps Updates for E72 - Am I the only one who h...

I received a "new updates available" message when I opened my Ovi Maps application this morning.
Like a fool I did the update and now every time I open Ovi Maps the app crashes and reboots the phone.
Am I the only one?
I thought that this time it would be OK.
It crashed last time I got an SMS Ovi Update notification.
Luckily I backed up yesterday.

I use the TomTom app. Unlike Google maps which you connect to online, TomTom updates their maps on a specified period. There is an advantage though, if you are driving in an area with no cell coverage you still have maps and GPS. The more up-to-date Google maps won't do you any good in that case. And with the current system you still don't have turn-by-turn.
My understanding is with the new Maps app TomToms map database will be online so it will be updated on-the-fly the same as Google. Downside: won't be available without a data connection.
Again, if you prefer Google look at one of the many Android phones. Or try the new Maps system on iOS 6. Apple's only other option was to have no Maps app at all.

C2-03 software/maps update for Pakistan

We are anixiously waiting for new software update for c2-03 as number of complain suggest that device has most buggy software, as I noticed software update is available for some countries but for Pakistani variant we are still waiting, Kindly make new update available to Pakistani customers as well. Secondy nokia advertise a lot about maps but I notices device which is sold in Pakistan has gulf countries maps and not of Pakistan even if we try to update it from ovi it does not show Pakistani maps. Please do the need ful and let me know when these updates will be available to us.

Nokia C5 Ovi MAps 3.04 updating problem. Error: In...

When ever i connect mobile to ovi suite it says " Maps have been updated, You need to download the updated maps"
After I start updating it takes 5-6 minutes saying" checking old maps and voice guidance files"
And then "INTERNET CONNECTION FAILED"
I cannot even install ovi maps 3.04 on mobile forget the regional maps and voice guidance files. Tried hard reset, formattjing the card , deleting cities and qf fil but all in vain .I tried it on Windows Xp, Win 7 and even reinstalled the latest Ovi Suite Please Help!!!!!

was OVI Maps available.

Currently there is something very seriously broken in the latest firmwares, Maps 3.0x SIS files or Nokia Maps Updater. Until Nokia gets their problems sorted out, the only way to restore Maps 3.x after factory reset or firmware update is to use a version meant for previous generation devices, like this one (thanks to the user ovikovi).

N96 - GPS local maps and voice guided navi for 3 m...

I see on the box of the N96 :
"Including local maps and voice-guided navigation for three months"
So after 3 months there is no local maps and voice ?
Why that ?
Even a cheap GPS at 100 euros has maps and voice forever

I have to disagree with you there.
The system is designed to suit all users, not just those that use the phone for navigation in the car. Plus many people won't use the phone for navigation but will use it as an interactive map book.
Also with all the new and upcoming location based services that nokia now offers it is very important to have up-to-date maps.
If we had to pay for map updates then many of the location based services wouldn't be accurate or worth using.
So for a phone based navigation program it makes much more sense to get free maps. Obviously they have to recoup the map costs from somewhere so they have to charge for the navigation feature.
For dedicated in car sat-nav systems such as tom toms then it makes sense for them to give you the navigation for free. They make their money by charging you for new maps and maps for other countries.
So in some ways nokia's system is better because you have maps of most of the world totally free. It's also the only system that could suit the majority.
At the end of the day no one is forcing you to use nokia maps either. If you don't like it then install a program like garmin XT. This program is like in car sat-navs where navigation is free but you pay for maps. A very expensive option if you travel to many countries.

An Update for BlackBerry Maps is Seriously Overdue

I've been with BlackBerry 10 since day one with the Z10 and I've noticed that the BlackBerry Maps app never really gets any love. This is a bare bones app that has still not gotten the update it needs and I believe many of us feels it is time.
It seriously needs public transit directions and schedule updates and incorporating nearby POI when asked (much in line with what the BlackBerry Assistant does). I'm personally not a person who drives and prefers transit and I find this really frustrating not to have such a great feature built into this app.
The option to view in satellite and and a hybrid of the satellite and standard map view is also important.
Performance updates is needed as it is taking longer than usual for the app to load due to 10.3.1.
Please update the app soon if you want to attract more users.

I've used BeMaps Pro, Google Maps and Blackberry Maps in tandem at one point, but I just don't get why Blackberry doesn't do what Apple did for iOS, Nokia with Windows Phone and Google for Android. It's a native app and a no-brainer that should come standard on any smartphone eco-system!
It shouldn't be hard to provide an update these days, I mean, Blackberry should be able to figure it out why it hasn't been able to attract more new users and actually RETAIN them.
I get the fact that the bottom line for Blackberry is corporate base and security, but to really get them locked in, the native experience is really what matters the most. A user shouldn't need to rely on several apps just to do one thing. I'd say re-invest in TAT and Blackberry World, make it attractive and maybe even make it into a cash cow too.
I find Blackberry Maps more reliable than Google Maps, but am hesitant to say 100% simply because Blackberry Maps feels like Google Maps lite and so does other apps. I don't want to sound like a whiny fan, but please, the phone is supposed to make your life easier, not harder.

Currently there is no map update available for NV-U44. However, there is a firmware update available for your nav-u unit. Although the firmware update does not provide additional map data, it may improve the route quality of your map in certain situations. The firmware update is available from the Sony® Support Web Site.

The last map update I had for my Nokia 808 is from back in April of this year.

I just dropped $550 on a Nokia 808 Pureview, with the assumption that I will have good GPS software...
Now Nokia is abandoning map updates for symbian?
I will be outraged if this is the case..
