OVI maps locks when exiting 5800

Was running 3.03 all working well then updated to 3.04 when I exited maps if I pressed the white button on phone it would show that maps was still running, if I tried to open maps screen would go black the only way to close it was to restart phone. I deleted 3.04 and this reverted it back to 3.01 but the problem continued, so I did a back up and then did a hard start (hold down green and red button and camera then start phone) Still did not correct problem any suggestions
Cheers Bob

I am not sure whether this will fix your problem but you can thry this once.
1. Uninstall ovi maps from device and remove exitsing maps which are avilable in device
2. Reboot device
3. Connect device with NOS and install maps for 5800
4. run ovimaps from device
5. Download country maps and search now.

  • Ovi Maps 3.0 exits when attempting to change inter...

I installed Ovi Maps 3.0 on my N95 (firmware V31.0.017).  I just used it for two weeks on a trip to the US, and it worked great!  Much better than Nokia Maps 2 in my opinion :-)
After one week however, I suddenly could no longer change the internet settings in Ovi Maps.  When I selected Options > Tools > Settings > Internet, Ovi Maps would hang for about 5 seconds and then quit.  Initially this worked well though.
The annoying thing is that, at the time when this first occured, the Internet access point in my Ovi Maps application was set to the WLAN network in my local hotel in the US.  I could continue to go online in my hotel, but no longer e.g. via the cellular network.  Now that I'm back home in Europe, I have no means to go online anymore.
I thought I'd simply uninstall Ovi Maps 3.0 and install it fresh.  Unfortunately, "simply uninstalling Ovi Maps" seems to be an issue, as is clear from several other postings in this forum.  To uninstall applications, one would think of using the Application Manager on the phone or in PC Suite.  However, the former doesn't list Ovi Maps on my N95, while the latter doesn't show *any* of the installed applications on my N95.  Both phenomena have been reported elsewhere, and seem to be dependent on the phone model.
    So here are my questions:
    1) Does anyone have an idea why Ovi Maps may quit when attempting to change the internet settings?
    2) Is there any other way to cleanly uninstall Ovi Maps 3.0?
    Thanks!

    Go to Solution.

I managed to resolve the problem I reported above.
Since my Ovi Maps app always quit when attempting to go online, except when the connection was made through the WLAN access point of my illustrious US hotel, I tried the following:
In the main menu of my phone, I opened Tools > Settings > Connection > Access points.  This showed a long list of access points I have been using over the past year or so.  I located the access point of the illustrious hotel, and deleted it from the list.  Then, when I started Ovi Maps again, and went to Tools > Settings > Internet, it again allowed me to define my desired access point, without quitting.
In conclusion, leaving a WLAN access point setting in Ovi Maps that you won't be able to connect to anymore, can be unsafe.  I don't know if there was anything specific to the particular access point that I used.  (The hotel itself was good though ;-)  Nokia people who read this posting may want to look into this?

  • Problems with OVI Maps 3.4 for 5800 XpressMusic

I downloaded Ovi Maps 3.4 on my 5800 and now every time I try to start using maps, the screen goes dim and the phone restarts itself. What I have to do to solve this problem?
I was using the version 3.3 and the navigation was working perfect.

    Hi c_dzeprailidis
When you upgrade to OVI Maps v3.04 it adds an additional positioning method "Wi-Fi/Network which can cause issues for some users, so try disabling it. Go to Menu > Applications > Location > Positioning > Positioning methods.

  • Ovi maps problems with Nokia 5800 xpress music

Since Ovi updated the maps I've had trouble using it. I have version 40 firmware which was installed by Vodafone when my device expired. Despite the update, Ovi maps just crashes the phone when I try to use it. The screen goes blank and I get all coloured lines flashing down one side and the phone reluctantly restarts. Any advice please?

I am having exactly the same problem with my 5800 xpress music having updated to version 40.0.005.235.10 and installed the new version of OVI maps and the software Own Voice.
I have also tried reinstalling the sotware, restoring my phone to factory settings and resetting my phone by pressing the green, red and camera button whilst powering up. The problem persists. I will be making a call and within a few seconds of the call being connected the phone switches off and back on again. I also get the the coloured lines flasing on the screen.
Please Nokia Support, help us out.

I have the latest ovi maps for my nokia 5800 (3.06, and also the latest firmware of the 5800), and everything was working fine until yesterday when I click the Map icon, the application is not launching... I did not install anything new, it just does not want to launch the application (no error message, just like i did not press the icon). I had the same issue couple of weeks ago when suddenly the ovi maps stopped working (i had to reset my phone and reinstall everything), and today it's the same all over again...
Do you have any idea how to fix this? (i have around 40Mo left in my phone memory, so there should not be any memory problem i guess....)
    Thanks!

Presumably you have Ovi Maps v3.06 (688) installed http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/ ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk23_b05_s60_5...
Don't know whether you restored from a backup after resetting device and have re-introduced a problem.
Perhaps try removing E:\Cities + .qf fle from 5800 and store safely on PC desktop, as empty folder structure re-created when you next open Ovi Maps application.

  • Why GPS symbols cannot exit after i exit ovi maps ...

i have one something problem for my hp nokia n86,
why gps symbols cannot exit  after i close my ovi map. after i exit ovi  maps the gps symbols still display, please help me for solved this problem , i used firmware 30.009, latest ovi maps v3.04

Okay then, the best solution maybe to remove Ovi Maps from your phone, backup all your contacts, messages etc. (not settings)  to memory card or PC, remove the memory card and then try the resets in the order below, then re-installing Ovi Maps. Please note, if you don't back up your phone's data before resetting, you will lose everything!
Factory settings reset. In standby, dial *#7780# and the phone's security code (the nokia's default security code is 12345). This reset restores phone's original settings.
Soft reset. In standby dial *#7370# and the phone's security code. Soft reset deletes ALL your phone's data!
Hard reset (the three key code/reset). Turn off the phone. Press and hold three keys together, the green/talk key, the * key and the number '3'.Then, turn on the phone and don't let the three keys before you see the nokia hands logo/nokia boot up screen.  Hard reset also deletes ALL data on your phone!
    Good luck!

  • My position in OVI map not showing my correct posi...

I installed new version of OVI maps today.
when I clicked on "my position" , it is not not showing my position correctly,
why it is so? anybody has any experience?

    @gavin_street
If Nokia Maps have not been used for a while stored ephemeris GPS data is out of date or similarly if application updated data can become corrupted. You don't mention whether you are hapy for Assisted GPS postioning method to utilise a network access point to contact positioning server = supl.nokia.com or whether relying solely upon the Integrated GPS of device. Try going outside away from tall buildings if feasible, launch Nokia Maps and wait 20 - 30 minutes for it to lock on to position.
It might be an idea to download LeGPSData2 application from Nokia Store so you can keep track of number of satellites acquired:http://store.ovi.com/content/208256

  • Ovi Maps work, then hang after a period of time

    Hi,
When I use Ovi maps for navigation, I am able to set up my route, but then after a period of say 10 or 15 minutes, the application hangs and the screen freezes on the last know location.
I then have to exit out of the app, either by resetting the phone or sometimes just exiting.
I am then able to set up my route, where again after 10 mins or so it freezes
I have the latest firmware that is available in the phone, 21.0.004
The version of maps I am using is V3.04
I have performed several full factory / system resets, ie where I setup the country and time
I have no third party apps installed
I do also notice that quite often the email app does not always automatically push emails to me device, so I again have to turn it off and then back on for it to pick up my emails.
So I think in summary my device keeps half hanging, if that is possible
Anyone have any ideas what I can do before taking the device to my local Nokia service centre?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

ok, I now have a fix,
Not that anyone was able to assist, but it may help some one in the future.
I spoke to T-mobile and explained that Ovi maps works when the phone network connection is switched off, but hangs after about 10mins, when the network connection is switched on.
The guy from T-Mobile then went on to say that there are a choice of two configurations that can be applied to my account, that control picture messaging (Yes I did say picture messaging) He went on to say that he would swap me to the alternative method for picture messaging.
I assume that picture messaging just controls the down and upload of data, so impacts the data throughput.
Anyway, he changed my setting on the account, and to my amazement when I went and tested out on the road Ovi maps no longer hung, and now works very well!
My biggest shock was that T-Mobile sorted this all out for me in 10 mins! althought it has taken me many months of testing and trying different things
    Cheers

  • Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps - do I need both?

I am sure this question has been asked already but I cannot find it having spent some time doing a search.
The question is do I need both or can I dispense with one? If so, with what consequences?
The position is that I tried to update Ovi maps but couldn't because there was insufficient space on drive C, so I thought I would delete it and then I would be able to install the new version. Unfortunately wrong again - still insufficient space on drive C. Hence my question - do I need both maps? Life would be easier just with Nokia maps in the circumstances.

Thanks. Can I take it that Nokia Maps is pre-installed? Would I be correct in concluding that I can delete Ovi Maps to save space and just update Nokia Maps from time to time?
If Nokia Maps is not updated from time to time I would need to install Ovi Maps to keep up-to-date?
I have I think deleted Ovi Maps but I still have Maps. In fact I am fairly certain I have all the maps I downloaded from OVi Maps. When I run Maps the screen refers to "Ovi Maps". Perhaps I haven't uninstalled Ovi Maps at all although the programme said that I had! Perhaps it is Ovi Maps that is pre-installed.
Sorry but I remain confused and hope I can through this tread clear it up once and for all.

  • Ovi Map 3.3 Problem, wants to reinstall it.

I installed ovi map 3.3 on my n97 today. The weather and some other feature won't run. It simply gives me a running sign on the upleft corner of the icon, but does not really run.
I figured it might be the problem of having old ovi map running when I was updating to the newest ovi map.
Anyway, I want to reinstall it. However, I can't find ovi map in the installed apps list. Not on the phone or from pc suit.
Anyone knows how to reinstall it w/o formatting everything?

Follow the instructions in that link. As for future updates, just google Ovi Maps.

  • OVI Maps - Check In

After getting an Update Maps text the other day I installed the new OVI Maps.
When I try to use the CHECK IN function I keep getting the message "There are currently network problems. Please try again later" after clicking Update my position.
Anyone any idea as to why this is happening?
    I have a Nokia X6 on firmware version 30.0.003
    Thanks

I've got exactly the same problem on my E52.
After installing the latest version of software for my phone - 052.003.283.01 - and the latest Ovi Maps - 3.04 - Ovi Maps don't check in - don't work in online mode. All my settings are ok, other aplications can use internet connections - but Ovi Maps appear to be permanently in offline mode (even that "online" mode is set).
Everytime I try to use internet connection in Ovi Maps, I get the same message - though in Polish
    What is going on?

  • Ovi Maps, Internal Memory / Memeory cards question

My new memory card arrives in a day or two and until it does I have not been downloading much on my phone but I have been using Ovi Maps.
When maps starts I get the little popup about not finding external memory so it uses the internal memory and I was wondering is there stuff left on the internal memory that can be deleted or copied to the external memory when I get it?

As it was expected I did my job with nokia map loader...http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-map-loader/download
And after that ovi suite opened without questions the maps.
If it is integrated in ovi suite as I read here: /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Nokia-Map-Loader-support-dropped/td-p/700212
it doesn't work right. If it is a new map loader in ovi then nokia you have to go BACK.

  • OVI Maps and bluetooth carkit at the same time

I tried to use OVI Maps on my Nokia 5800.
If my bluetooth carkit is connected, I don't have audible route descriptions. As soon as the carkit is disconnected, I can hear the driving instructions again.
Is it possible to use navigation using OVI Maps and a bluetooth carkit at the same time?
    Erik

    @ErikdePotter
    Welcome to the forum!
This was possible if you used Nokia CK-300 carkit (now discontinued) which had dedicated CarMenu application installed upon device:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-ck-300/application-software as option to route "All audio events" via car speakers!

  • Positioning Server on 5800 Ovi Maps

I keep getting the following message when using the new Ovi Maps Navigation - Connection to network positioning server required.  Costs may be incurred.  If I say no then I can continue and get the free navigation as advertised, but is there any way of stopping this message coming up?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

MENU -> Apps -> Location -> Positioning Server (turn to DISABLED)
    Settings -> Connectivity -> Destinations ->
    1. Remove the STREAMING profile permanently by deleting the setting from telco.
    2. In the INTERNET section remove all the telco settings.
    3. In the MULTIMEDIA section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G MMS only and delete permanently the rest of it.
    4. In the WAP SERVICES section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G WAP only and delete permanently the rest of it.
Note: screenshot settings may vary from service providers, above is applicable for one of the Malaysian telco
The reason you are deleting the unwanted settings is a special cause which you will overcome the credit drain issue.

Nokia OVI Maps Online & Offline Map Searching Issue
    1. Setup your WiFi setting.
    2. Verify the WiFi functionality (browse some web page).
    3. Set the WiFi as 1st priority inside the destination (internet) setting.
    4. Set the WiFi as the default access point (for the internet).
    5. Delete the WAP / MMS / STREAMING settings and left the 3G Internet (as 2nd priority inside the internet setting).
    6. Edit the 3G internet setting and change the "password prompt" to YES.
    7. Load up the maps loader.
    8. Click on the delete maps from storage.
    9. Reload in the maps (at least the malaysia map must be selected).
    10. Load as well the voice guidance file.
    11. Wait for all the downloading and uploading finished.
    12. Run Location and disable the agps and network under positioning setting.
    13. Run the OVI maps.
    14. When the 3G internet prompt up select cancel (do not connect) (if it still pop up, suppose wont because we already disable A-GPS and network in Location setting).
    15. Go to setting and change the internet to online.
    16. Select appropiate voice guidance file.
    17. Go outside where more satelite can be search.
    18. Now go to my location and wait for the satelite to get a fix (might be take long since no agps)
    19. Make sure the red dot are "IN MALAYSIA".
    20. Change maps mode as SATELITE view to try the WiFi can download the satelite image (to ensure WiFi is working).
    21. Once confirm WiFi working switch back to maps view.
    22. Walk around and you will see the GPS is working already (since it already lock, red dot will turn SOLID RED and satellite bar should be green).
The most useful for the 3G internet password prompt when agps and network positioning enable:
    1. Select YES during the password prompt you will have A-GPS (fast lock with charges).
    2. Select CANCEL during the password prompt you will have full I-GPS (slow lock but FOC).
Steps 18 and 19 are needed because sometime during the first time OVI maps run it will set it "previous' location as some where maybe not within Malaysia and if this happen and you dont have those location maps downloaded in the database then it will direct download from the internet and who know which access point it gonna use (if it use 3G internet then you will lost lots of phone credits for those huge maps data), confirm this if you dont have the maps data install it will direct download the file.
Below is a screenshot shows, full OFFLINE guide, see the GPS INTERNET connection is striked out:
Credits to my friend sklchan from Lowyat.NET - Malaysia's Tech Enthusiast Resource Community
The method / settings above uses device to GPS satellite connection directyl, therefore please go outdoor for better coordinate locks.
