OVI Maps on 5800XM Questions

Hey there! Recently downloaded the new OVI Maps 3.03, and I have to say, I love it! (But then don't we all love free stuff?)
I have a few questions, however, I was hoping somebody could answer.
When in 'My Position' mode, the map moves to follow you as you move, however, it does not rotate. Is this due to the 5800's lack of a built in compass? If not, how can I enable this? Pressing the compass icon achieves nothing. Is there a way to manually rotate the map? Again, messing about with the compass icon has no yieled results.
In navigation mode, when a route has been set, your current speed is shown, along with warnings when you go too fast, along with speed camera information. Is there anyway to activate these features without setting a route? I'd like these features when I'm out on a random drive, and have not decided a destination. E.g. having them in 'My Position' mode.
Also, I do not have a data package, and so have A-GPS disabled, in Locations -> Positioning settings under applications, and have only integrated GPS activated. I've been wondering whether there is a charge for Network Positioning though? It seems as if all it does it find the mast you're connected to...
Thanks in advance!

Cannot download 3.06 ovi maps for 5800XM after hard reset. Any clue what's going on?

Similar problem on my E71 phone after upgrading the firmware to 300.21.012
I.e., when I start the application - it closes in a half way. Uninstalling is impossible.
When I start Nokia Maps updater - it says:
"Error. Cannot update licenses. Missing phone info: IMSI or IMEI cannot be obtained (20)."
    Possible reason:
I've used Nokia Maps - Ovi beta before  updating  firmware to 300.21.012. After firmware update, I've updated Nokia Maps successfully with Nokia Maps Loader from the computer under Windows XP. But later I've restored phone info from backup, from another computer which is runing on Windows Vista. After restoring backup - I see my messages, etc., but Maps don't work at all (as written above).
Connecting through another computer (which runs under Windows Vista) - it says: "There are no new updates for your phone! Manage your maps and voices with Map Loader". But when I start Map loader - it looks as previous version loader; and allows only load voices, not maps. And still I can not start Maps in my E71 phone.
So how can I start using Nokia Maps again?

  • X6 Ovi Maps - North Up question

On the X6 in Ovi Maps, is there a way to change it from North Up to Route Up?  I have had several GPS units and this is my first encounter with North up navigation and it throws me off every time.

You caliberate the compass on Nokia phones by waving them in a figure of 8, or a couple of flicks of the wrist from 12 O'clock to 3 O'clock !

  • Ovi Maps, Internal Memory / Memeory cards question

My new memory card arrives in a day or two and until it does I have not been downloading much on my phone but I have been using Ovi Maps.
When maps starts I get the little popup about not finding external memory so it uses the internal memory and I was wondering is there stuff left on the internal memory that can be deleted or copied to the external memory when I get it?

As it was expected I did my job with nokia map loader...http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-map-loader/download
And after that ovi suite opened without questions the maps.
If it is integrated in ovi suite as I read here: /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Nokia-Map-Loader-support-dropped/td-p/700212
it doesn't work right. If it is a new map loader in ovi then nokia you have to go BACK.

  • Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps - do I need both?

I am sure this question has been asked already but I cannot find it having spent some time doing a search.
The question is do I need both or can I dispense with one? If so, with what consequences?
The position is that I tried to update Ovi maps but couldn't because there was insufficient space on drive C, so I thought I would delete it and then I would be able to install the new version. Unfortunately wrong again - still insufficient space on drive C. Hence my question - do I need both maps? Life would be easier just with Nokia maps in the circumstances.

Thanks. Can I take it that Nokia Maps is pre-installed? Would I be correct in concluding that I can delete Ovi Maps to save space and just update Nokia Maps from time to time?
If Nokia Maps is not updated from time to time I would need to install Ovi Maps to keep up-to-date?
I have I think deleted Ovi Maps but I still have Maps. In fact I am fairly certain I have all the maps I downloaded from OVi Maps. When I run Maps the screen refers to "Ovi Maps". Perhaps I haven't uninstalled Ovi Maps at all although the programme said that I had! Perhaps it is Ovi Maps that is pre-installed.
Sorry but I remain confused and hope I can through this tread clear it up once and for all.

  • Ovi maps and Nokia Maps

I have recently downloaded the ovi maps update for free navigation on my 5800 however now I seem to have 2 programs in my installed apps menu, Ovi maps and Nokia maps. This is causing me some problems as my phones built in memory is now completely full and I am unable to do some things as I have ran out of on phone memory space. Which one is the main map software? And also can I uninstall one? If not then can it be installed on a MSD card and if yes how?

As far as I can determine Ovi maps is the mapping software (program) which installs to C (phone memory) and Nokia maps is the map data that you have loaded which I believe are installed to E (mass memory).
I can confirm that you do need both installed.
The problem as far as I can see is that the previous maps versions 3.01 is built into the current firmware (v20 for N97 - not sure for 5800) and installing maps 3.03 does not remove or overwrite the earlier version so you end up with both versions installed and thus the extra memory footprint.
This will remain a problem until a newer firmware is released which will hopefully have maps 3.03 (or later depending when next firmware is released) thus reducing the extra 9 megs or so used.
    Hope this answers your question

  • Still the same bugs?! (Ovi Maps, N8)

    Hi!
I'm using Ovi maps lately quite a lot but I have some problems with this software, especially with the usability. When searching the net for bugfixes/help I found an older bug report on Nokia BetaLabs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06/bugreport/23781/top-10-bugs-in-ovi-maps-v-3... and my problems are still the same but Ovi Suite says that I have the latest version (v3.06, Map version 0.2.42.122 on N8-00)
    My problems are:
1.) When searching for an accurate address (Street name, No., ZIP, City name) there is no hit for offline navigation, Ovi maps needs an online search. If I leave the house number out the offline navigation finds the street - Why aren't there the house numbers stored for offline navigation? There is mostly no sense in only finding a street but not the accurate address. As long as I only use the navigation inland that isn't a big problem as I have internet connection included in my phone rate - but it's a problem abroad because of high roaming rates ...
2.) So I have always internet connection on Ovi maps - problem is that sometimes when the UMTS-connection is lost (e.g.. in tunnels) there is a pop-up if I want Ovi maps to connect to the internet. If I choose "Yes" there is some seconds later a new pop-up where I need to choose the connection - That's very annoying! I can't find a setting like "always allow Ovi maps to connect to the internet". There is only a setting if I only want offline navigation (which doesn't work, see 1.).
3.) If there is more than one result I can't figure out what is the difference between the results (except the distance) because the exact address isn't scrolling and the results are only like "Country, State, ...." - I don't see the differences because there is only "...".
4.) I can't scroll through the map once the navigation has started. There is only this mode where I can scroll threw the turns/junctions. Sometimes I like to see where the navigation takes me before I start driving, that is hardly possible without a 'free-map-scroll-mode'.
One last point is the search-process: It is more comfortable to have a step-by-step search for the destination like all major satnavs have (TomTom, Garmin, ...) and bigger on-screen-keyboard because with this tiny letters it is quite impossible to add/change the address while driving.

AUTxRemoteC wrote:Now to the points from my first post:
1.) I've downloaded the maps via Ovi Suite on my mobile. Internet connection is only used for the search, but not everytime, it's only some kB but abroad some kB could be very expensive ;-)
2.) Thanks for this hint but everything was/is configured right as you said. This is more or less a general problem of my phone, maybe it has also something to do with my provider. Not only Maps asks regularly for the connection to use, other applications like the AR-Apps Wikitude and LiveView (from BetaLabs) but also some games are doing the same.
    1. Maybe I misunderstand your question but I have no problem with searches right down to numbers in streets with the phone offline i.e the country, town, street, street number is found and the cursor sits over that exact address on the map. Perhaps it is a problem with your country's maps? In the countries I use the geo data is readily available right down to the individually surveyed plots of land in towns and cities (and hence to numbers in streets).
I often find it quicker to do a search for the country first if it is another country you are searching for the address in, then do the city, street number and name search.
    2. I suspect that you have not barred such connections somewhere in the set up of your phone generally or else for for some app, or perhaps, as you have games, etc loaded, one or more of them insists on "phoning home" as some do and as they have opened a connection Maps asks to use it.
That with Maps 3.08 on an N8 but I do not recall any problems on earlier versions either.

  • "Last devices used" menu every second over Ovi map...

    Hello all,
I installed Ovi Maps on my phone, and have a huge problem with it: Every second the"Last devices used" pops up and goes away again.
Since a few years I own (and use) a Nokia N95, and I just used 'Setup Nokia Maps Update 1.0.8.exe' to get Ovi maps on my phone. Apparently I had to use 'Nokia Software Updater' to make sure I got the latest version. Done that too.Next step is to use the Nokia Map Loader to get the maps on there. Done that too.
Here is the version info of the installed map:
I have Bluetooth enabled. Now, when I use the maps, every second the"Last devices used" pops up and goes away again. Mildly irritating would be a severe understatement here. Switching Bluetooth off and starting the map again gives the question "Bluetooth is currently switched off. Switch on?". Every second. It seems impossible to answer the popup-question or do something with the popup-menu.
Is this a known prob by anyone, and can you please tell me a fix or workaround (preferably a fix of course)?
    Thank you,
    wlamee

And I got a nippy reply from the Benelux Nokia Care.
The trick is I had to go to Tools -> Settings -> General -> Positioning -> Positioning Methods, and switch off 'Bluetooth GPS'. I think I always ahd this switched on and it never complained with the standard Nokia maps, but I'm not sure - I think I saw that menu only once, when I was palying with my GPS and the original maps.
    But hey, it's fixed. Cool!

  • What is the latest Ovi maps version for E72?

According to maps application I have:
    c3.04 10wk17 bo7 MW OpenGl LM MN
    Map Version 0.1.25.114
is that the newest for this phone?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i hope this is not off topic, but i have a similar problem with map versions, but slightly different circumstances.
    i have firmware 051.018, with ovi maps v3.04 10wk32 b03 and map version 0.1.24.114
i want to upgrade the firmware to the newer v071.004 with ovi map v3.04_10wk32_b04 (or so you say).
my question is this. does firmware v071.004 come with ovi map v3.04_10wk32_b0, and does it require maps version 0.1.25?
if so it'll really suck to upgrade the firmware for me and i probably won't do it because i downloaded offline maps for the whole world (like 8 gigs) from a mirror site and have been happily prancing about the globe on my e72 for sometime now. my e72 has almost become more of a gps map device than a phone. honestly i would rather buy another nokia with updated maps than give up my precious world map on the old firmware.
    should i upgrade or not?
so, coincidentally, i am also very interested in finding out the newest version of ovi maps to be included in the 070 firmware.
thank you and i hope this wasn't too much of a curveball.

  • How can I record a route on OVI Maps?

I have done this before so I know it can be done. I just forgot how I did it. So here's what I did, I started driving from my house and told ovi maps to calculate my route when I reached my destination I said stop navigation(or something on those lines) and it created my route exactly the way I drove. I forgot how I did this exactly so can anyone please help me out here? Thank you.

Is this upon 5800XM using Ovi Maps v3.06 or have you changed device?

how to get the non-navigaion map of cambodia to my nokia 5800 music express? according to the follwing link the map is available: http://www.nokia.de/ovi-dienste-und-apps/nokia-maps/anleitungen/mapping/coverage

AFAIK the only way to access what data there is for non-navigable countries is to set OVI Maps application to "Online" which may be a WLAN connection, zoom out from your current position go across the globe and zoom back down on to the region in question; just keep an eye on the kb meter as you pan across the area in sequential strips and when it stops rising you have got all of the available mapping. It seems to want to download about 1.5MB of data
However if you install OVI Maps v3.06 from Nokia Beta Labs (sign in with Nokia ID + passsword) from here: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06 which uses newer maps 00.02.41.123 rather than 00.01.25.114 with v3.04 I found that all the data is included if World Maps have been downloaded, but would expect just downloading the continent of Asia to be adequate here.

  • Ovi map, start - close - start again, crash!! plea...

    I have an N97mini, Software version V 12.2.110, custom version 12.2.110.232.01
My ovi map version is v3.04 10wk32 b03 MW, map version 0.1.25.114
    I perform following operation sequence:
start ovi map, everything seems work. Exit it by touch the "X" at the bottom right corner.
start ovi map again, everything freezes, wherever I touch including "?" and setting, i receive no response whatsoever.
I have downloaded only California map onto the device. Please help!

    Hi there,
Following is what I have done:
    1. hard reset the phone as you suggested
    2. config wifi on my phone so that map can be downloaded later
    3. formated E: (I don't have a memory card, massive memory is always used)
    4. config the positioning to use only integrated gps as you said
    5. install ovi map the exactly the file you suggested. this is done by first copy the installation file to a directory on E: and then use Application -> office -> file manager to run it
    6. After ovi map is installed, download CA map via wifi. Then I go back to ovi map menu and start the map, it asks whether I want map via wifi, via ovi online or .... I forgot, 3 options, weird, since I downloaded the map already.
    7. then I click "X", the problem still there. ovi map freeze sometime, it can not be started for the second time when it's not freezed at the first.
I wonder is there a way to really clean up everything in the device and start from scratch? I did a device firmware upgrade via ovi suite after I got the phone. I don't know whether that matters.  I have received following email from Nokia customer care with suggestions, shall I try it?

  • Ovi map on n97

When I got my n97 my map was working, then i had to deleted someof my memory on my c drive but I dont no what I did because now my map doesnt work and need help getting it back online. When I go into it now it say system error but I have the ovi map safeware 3.1..............HELP!

nothing you did all you could just fine. ok try the first code after you take out the battery for about a minute
and see if this helps any also in the c drive go through the file manager and try to remove the cities folder it will self replicate but it might have the old maps data that you dont need and it might be causing an issue
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
    3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • Ovi Maps crashes continuously on N8

    Phone:
    PR1.2
    Custom version 014.002.269.03
    Product code 059C8T6
    Type RM-596
    Ovi Maps 3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com
    Map version 0.2.42.122
I have a newly bought N8. Each time I start Ovi Maps it crashes after around 0.5-5 minutes. No other applications are launched in parallel. I have tried to play switching on and off different positioning methods - it does not help. All the same, it crashes with any combination I have tried. Even if I switch off all the methods except built-in GPS, it crashes. I have restored the factory settings and reinstalled the OS. Before installing some applications, I have tried to start Ovi Maps - it crashes all the same.
It crashes in a strange way. It first freezes. Then in around 10 seconds the screen goes dark, then fully white and then the phone restarts. But it does not restart from the very beginning, as it does when you switch the phone off and switch it again (it shakes, then it asks SIM pin, then lock code). Instead, after Ovi Maps crash and the white screen, it shows the white screen with "nokia" on it (no pin codes are asked), then comes the desktop screen, no applications are running at this point yet, it does not react on the touch screen, no connection to the cell network. Then it starts to revive, connects to the GSM network, starts to react on the toch screen, on the button, refreshes the desktop, etc. It runs further as usual.
    The questions are:
    1) Is it a hardware or software problem?
    2) If it is a known software problem, is a remedy going to be included in the coming updates of the OS and or Ovi Maps?
    3) Are there some workarounds to have Ovi Maps in some form/regime running stable on my phone? Ovi Maps was really a decisive argument to buy the phone and now it turns out to be absolutely not usable...
    4) Would downgrading of Ovi Maps help? If yes, how can I get the version 3.04 of Ovi Maps for N8? Or could it be that some other distribution of Ovi Maps 3.06 is more stable? How could I get it?

aspergerguy, thanks a lot for your comments!
“I notice that you are using Ovi Maps 3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com which is not pre-installed in PR1.2 (v3.06 11wk07 b01) so you must have updated at some point after resetting device. Did you try setting up pre-installed version following prompts before updating this application?”
I cannot say for sure, it was a month ago. Probably, I did. As experiment, I would try v3.06 11wk07 b01, if I knew, where I could get it. Ovi Shop offers only the version I have installed on my phone.
Anyway, I believe, it will not help. I have tried other applications (e.g., Sport Tracker), where positioning is in use, they crash the same way as Ovi Maps. The crashes are not related specifically to Ovi Maps. I believe, it is a system issue with positioning.
“If you go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning server > Positioning server use - is it set to Auto. in home network?”
It was “always ask”, but I have changed it to “auto”. It does not help, the phone crashes as before.
“Did you try OVI Maps application whilst in USA (was it on TMO) before going to Germany?”
Yes, I did. It was with US at&t sim card and some German one. No difference, it was crashing the same way. It was also crashing without any sim card.
“There is obviously an issue with the Assisted GPS positioning method which unfortunately since OVI Maps v3.06 wants to make a lot more connections ( no you can't revert to v3.04 once vPR1.2 installed).”
There might be an issue with Assisted GPS, but it is far from being the only one. The telephone crashes if I have only the internal GPS switched on, the Assisted GPS and the network methods are switched off. It crashes all the same.
“As an experiment go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning server > Server settings - is just supl.nokia.com listed or anything else as well? - if nothing else go to Options > New server - add supl.google.com (if another network server @ 2 remove it). Whilst pinging this server as experiment is no issue there is no authorisation for continual use by Nokia device(s).”
This part I did not quite understand. I have included the second server in the settings, but how can I ping from the telephone? Should I install a ping application for that?
With the second server the telephone crashes as before. No changes.
“With regard to wired headset included you really do need to press it in hard until it "clicks".”
Great, thanks! Now it is working! One has to push it really hard…
