Ovi Maps v3.06 (Betalabs) on Nokia N8, problem wit...

Hi,
I encounter a problem with the "checkin" on Ovi Maps v3.06 from the Betalabs. It use to function perfectly untill a few days ago i always have the message "Network problem, please try again later" each time i try to checkin. Fact is that there is no problem with my network, all other function and apps are working just fine on my N8.
I completly reinstalled Ovi Maps 3.06, still the same problem. Restarting the phone doesn't help eather.
Anyone with the same problem? Or any advice?
Thx
N8-Wizard !!! Click the white star if you are happy with my help !!!

The first I would try is to uninstall and see if it that stops the restarting. If it does try reinstalling Ovi Maps v3.06 again and see f it recurs. Don't forget to follow the betalabs instructions and download new map data after the install.

  • C6 Ovi Maps/Navi works, connecting to Nokia Accoun...

    Greetings,
The location sharing feature seems really cool and I'd like to use it with my new Nokia C6. Ovi Maps and navigation works fine for me, however it will not login my Nokia Account. That whole menu is quite buggy actually. It does not "forget my account" either, but if I click it then restart my Nokia, I can re-add my login details... then it attempts to login, but nothing happens. I left my phone to try and login all night, in the morning it still said "Connecting to Nokia Accounts.." and if I cancel it, i will have to click "forget account" and reboot nokia again to make it reappear. Several attempts didn't work though.
I've updated to both latest Symbian version and Ovi Maps.
Is there another Nokia Approved App that would let me share my location? (as often and automatic as possible)
    Thanks in Advance

I re-installed the phone's firmware and this has fixed the bug!

  • Ovi Maps won't open in Nokia 700

I bought Nokia 700 2 months ago and I have been using Ovi Maps perfectly until last week, when after plugging my device in to my laptop I got a message that I should update the Maps application. I followed the instructions but there was not enough disc space, so the installation stopped. I unplugged the device and made some space, then plugged the device again and performed the update.
After that, I can use the navigation application as well as the check-in application normally, but the Maps won't open from the icon. I tried reinstalling software, reinstalling the maps, nothing. I cannot find the Ovi Maps version as the application does not appear in the Application Manager. I open the Maps settings, I can see the maps I have installed, but no info on the version.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks!

OK, I think I solved the problem.
I had to open Ovi Store and download an update of the Ovi Maps (v3.09). It took some time but it now works fine. I couldn't find this update elsewhere, only through the Ovi store.
I hope this hels you as well.

  • Ovi maps doesn't accept my Nokia account user name...

It was necessary to do an *#7370# reset on my phone, every things is fine now, except the point that I can't log on to Ovi from the maps application to get my maps favourites back to the phone.
Maps doesn't accepts my user name anymore. I got an error massage "no special characters allowed", but I have dots in my user name.
I don’t have any problems with logging on to other Ovi services either they are PC based nor from my mobile.
Creating a new account doesn't bring me back my maps favourites, therefore it's no solution for my problem.
I tried to install an older maps version, but have sis files for version 3.03 and 3.04 only and both versions doesn’t allow my to log in to Ovi.
Does anybody has an idea what to do?
    Thanks for help in advance!

Why don't you contact Nokia using the 'CONTACT US' tab at the top ??
Have tried e-mailing support @ Ovi reply was "go to accounts>Nokia account>sign in" which is what I'd explained wasn't working. Called the Nokia help line & told to delete maps & reinstall which is what I'd tried previously, tried again but still doesn't work.
Navigation actually works with data download but still doesn't log in to enable sync. I still suspect it's something to do with a setting in the active sync profile.
So I'm waiting for 1. Ovi help to reply to second e-mail and 2. the call centre to reopen Monday

  • If Nokia/Ovi Maps won't startup

This problem is usually caused by corrupt map data.
To fix this issue, you first have to delete the current map data. Using File Manager, delete the "Cities" folder on your memory card/mass storage.
Then start up the Nokia Maps application and download a few kb of map data so that it recreates the folder and file structure required for the map data.
Finally, reinstall your map data and voices to the phone using Ovi Suite or in the case of the latest Betalabs V3.06, using the Update function direcly from the phone.
This solution has been known to work with V3 when it too fails to start. With V3, Both the "Cities" folder and the "qf" file need to be deleted. The remaining procedure is as V2 above.

    Hi thakaran
If it wasn't for the loss of data I would suggest that you carry out a "hard reset" with device off hold down green, red and camera keys while pressing power button until Nokia "shaking hands" appears which will make your phone revert to out-of-the-box condition. This will revert to OVI Maps version pre-installed in phone firmware, you may need to delete E:\cities + .qf file from memory card. You could always download OVI Maps update directly:http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/software/maps_i nstaller_3.04_10wk17_b07_s60_5.0.Nocs.sis

  • N86 GPS won;t turn off with Ovi Maps 3.04

Ovi Maps 3.04 seems to have introduced a serious bug on the N86, in that after Maps has been run twice, the only way to turn off the GPS receiver and get rid of the GP icon is to switch off the phone.
Plenty of reports of same on the Nokia Ovi Maps Beta forums, see
    https://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-beta-for-mobile/bugreport/gps-receiver-not-turning-off-on-e...
Please can we have a fix for this urgently as it kills the phone's battery life - which is bad enough as it is.

I am experiencing this same problem with the GPS icon showing after exiting Ovi Maps 3.04 on my Nokia N86 8MP NAM version running the latest firmware 30.009.  .
This problem doesn't happen on my daughter's 5230.  So I know it is certainly a problem localized to the N86 8MP.

  • N97:Ovi Maps crashes after a few seconds

On N97 I had Ovi maps working like a breeze for some weeks now. All of a sudden I see this behaviour. Open Ovi Maps, see the main page, click on My Location the map appears a message about connecting might cost you something and the Ovi Maps disappears.
What should I do the get Ovi Maps working againg. Oh, btw Internet works just fine.

The original maps app that came with the phone will always be there (like music player or photo viewer or web browser) Maps 3.04 works fine on my N97. Best way to install is to remove (as you said you did) all Nokia/Ovi maps from Installed Applications, then download Ovi Maps 3.04 Beta from Nokia Beta Labs. Then use Nokia Maps Loader on PC to first remove old maps, followed by downloading and installing the map data for your region onto the phone (the stuff the Maps app uses to find where you are and to navigate) to avoid having to download 'on the fly', this speeds everything up and avoids data usage. Maps should then work fine ! Well it works for me !!

    Welcome to the forum!
It would probably help to open this Nokia resource:https://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/e73/how-to/positioning/positioning... although it may be a little out of date as OVI Maps v3.04 slightly different.
Suggest that you only ENABLE "Integrated GPS" positioning method and go outside away from tall buildings for perhaps 20 - 30 minutes to allow device to achieve first positional fix.
You can enable Assisted GPS positioning method which needs a network access point later.

  • [INFO TIPS] How to survive with Ovi Maps 3.0 insta...

Quick info tips. I wanna made this post earlier but I was on few days trip so didn't have a chance... but it's good coz I was tested GPS in real touristic environment.
I'm from Europe so I don't know how all links posted below will be works for people outside Europe.
My hardware: E63 with latest firmware + external GPS module LD-4W
Everything what we do here, we do with phone connected to the PC via USB cable in PC Suite mode and with fully battery charged.
If you have Maps 2.0, everything works well for you and you payed for any of licences - better stay with that version and don't touch Ovi Maps 3.0. Waste of time and nerves.
    1. Please make phone data backup in PC Suite. Please make data backup of your memory card.
    2. Check if you have firmware upgrade for your phone (click on some icon in PC Suite). But if you have cracked Symbian and you using cracked software better stay away from firmware upgrade. There's new cracking method for newest firmwares, ask Google. I don't use it, I'm clean. If you have new firmware - update the phone.
    3. Download MapLoader - http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/download-maps/map-loader Do fresh install or update old MapLoader
    4. Bluetooth MUST BE turn in phone. Why? Ask Nokia. -_- Just kidding but unfortunately it's not funny. Without Bluetooth Ovi Maps 3.0 installed in next step (6.) is crazy as hell. Application is completly unusable, skipping, switching... one big hell on the screen. I don't know how it looks like in phones with build in GPS module.
    5. Download Ovi Maps 3.0 - http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/download-maps and update with this installer old Maps 2.0 in the phone.
    6. Run Ovi Maps 3.0 and allow to download via Internet connection in your phone (wifi, gsm, 3g) some portion of initial data - 300 or 400kB - something like that, up to 1MB maximum then disconnect from Internet. It's needed to save some file (I don't remember name) and make structure of catalogues on memory card.
    7. Leave Ovi Maps 3.0 and run MapLoader. This application is one big pain in **bleep**. Sometimes doesn't see your phone, sometimes doesn't recognize correctly your memory card size (when you are finished downloading your map/s data that stupid soft can say to you "you don't have" or something like that)... horrible! If something goes wrong - try restart your PC and phone then connect again via USB cable - still in PC Suite mode.
    8. When luckily you have maps on your phone, try to pair your phone with your GPS module via Bluetooth or turn on build in module in other models (I think it works like that?).
    9. When you will be look out for licence for walk navigation... you cannot find it. You can see only your region name (in my case it was Europe) and you have an option to buy... licenses for drivers. ROTFL!  Licence for walk navigation is "hidden option". You must go here - http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/maps-support/how-to/how-to--use-map... - it's mini FAQ how to obtain it.
What I see, there's NO MORE free trial licenses in Maps v3.0 You must pay from day one. I buyed that licence for walk navigation for 10,12E (10 euro 12 euro cents) and it's not time restricted - looks like lifetime, ofc for the phone that you use (I think). Other licenses (for drivers) are time restricted (30 days and up as I remember).
Everything works fine for me. I was over 220km away from my hometown in awesome town Wrocław and Ovi Maps 3.0 helps me A LOT with navigation and searching for monuments in this town.

Ad. 1) "...Please make data backup of your memory card."
Because maybe you must be format memory card for proper maps installation (instead upgrade from Ovi Maps 3.0 installation level old installed maps from v2.0).

  • OVI maps shuts down without warning

We have the latest version of OVI maps on both our phone (Nokia E71 and Nokia C5).
    when using the Drive-To Navigation.
Sometimes, without any warning, the phone screen goes black, a Nokia logo is briefly displayed, and both the phones go back to their respective homescreens.
Now, it's a bit annoying when this happens at a key point on the journey.
(We know it's not the screen-saver starting, so can rule that out)
Ovi maps is then no longer listed as one of the phones open applications.
So we have to then re-open Ovi Maps, re-input our desired destination, and start our navigation all over again.
It then continues to work fine... until at some random point it'll happen again.

I take it the original post referred to Maps version 3.01. I occasionally have a similar problem with v3.01, and it's only when A-GPS is active. You can try using A-GPS to get a quick lock, and then after a few minutes disconnect from the internet (i.e. rely solely on the GPS satellites). From within Maps: Options--> Tools--> Go Offline.
See if you continue to have problems.

  • No detail on newly installed ovi maps

OVI maps worked great on my nokia 5800 until last week I installed the latest version, via ovi store on my phone. Although there is still some functionality at "macro" level (I can see towns and major roads), as soon as i try to get down to streetlevel it all goes "blank".
I tried to remove the installed software to start again, but clearly i mustn't be able to remove everything and files must be hidden somewhere as the application is still there.
    what can I do??
    Solved!

What he means is, you have updated the Nokia Maps application. Now you have to update the mapping data separately. To update the mapping data, you need to use another application on your pc calles Nokia Map Loader. You may already have this installed on your pc. If you do, then just plug in your phone and use it to download the latest mapping data. If you have not yet installed Nokia Map Loader, use the link below to download it and install it on your pc.

  • Where is Lonely Planet Guide on the Ovi Maps

It doesn't show for me. I have a 5800 XM.
By the way, Ovi Maps is much slower than Nokia Maps, I wish I could keep both apps at the same time...

Just burn the iso and boot to the CD. when it boot u will be prompted with instructions right on your screen. Its really not that hard!
as for the directory part, I dunno, never looked at the ISO, never had a reason too. The arch install CD can be used for more then just an install disk.
