Ovi Maps. will they be free on Nokia's MeeGo devic...

Title says it all.
On another topic: When will we see Nokia's MeeGo beast?
Thanks in advance

i've not read anything yet about maps on meego, but nokia would be crazy to release its first meego handset without free voice guidance. i wouldn't expect an announcement about the handset before the MeeGo Conference on  Nov. 15-17, in Dublin, Ireland. nokia won't announce anything until the n8 has been in the market for a little while

  • N97 how to remove ovi maps to get memory free

My phone always says not enough memory.
Because the OVI maps cost a lot of money when i am outside my country even when i use offline.
I decided to remove ovi maps complete to to get memory free.
So first i removed NOKIA MAPS and OVI Maps Wi-Fi/Network from application manager , installed maps.
But unfortunately OVI Maps is still on my phone.
So I tried to remove it from the menu with Optione Organize. But the delete will not show up.
Can anyone help so i get some memory free ?
    With Kind Regards,

Whats the real issue ? Do you want to regain Memory really or ONLY because OVI Maps cost lot of money (???) . Because with proper settings OVI Maps will be totally FREE anywhere in the world.. Refer this ..
Maps should be pre-installed and set to Offline mode. Use only Integrated GPS Positioning method... and there should not be any cost incurred...

i have an iphone and have just bought an ipad, the apps i have paid for on my iphone will they be free to download or sync to my ipad?

One thing you may notice when you do install them on the iPad, is they are not optimized for the higher resolution screen on the iPad versus the iPhone.  You can still use them, but you  may want to search the app store and see if there is a HD or iPad optimized version (although you may have to buy that as most such apps are not free upgrades, but separate purchases).

  • The reason, why NOKIA made ovi maps free ? read th...

Helsinki - Nokia made a breakthrough by offering maps and GPS navigation service is completely free for users smartphone. Step the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer makes the GPS industry players stressed. Google is also subject to receive the effects.
"We are offering navigation for cars and pedestrians in 74 countries in 46 languages. Ovi Maps truly free," Jukka Husio said, director of marketing services Nokia in Helsinki, as quoted by the AFP detikINET on Friday (22/1/2010) . The new version's Ovi Maps can be downloaded at the Nokia website is, to provide full navigation features like voice guidance for driving, 180 state map, directions and content from leading partners such as Lonely Planet and Time Out. All are available without charge in the handset Nokia N97 mini, N97, 5800, E72, X6, E55, E52, 6730 Classic, 6710 Navigator and 5320.
Navigation industry players such as Tom Tom and Garmin affected by this initiative is estimated to Nokia's. And iSupply's prediction that the GPS market is likely to fall. Nokia also seemed to challenge Google is actively developing the navigation for free for Android handsets, such as the Motorola Droid.
For Nokia itself, of course, the move to improve its position in the global smartphone market. Some time later, Nokia is losing market share captured the iPhone and BlackBerry.
"I think Nokia's intention they can stop the decline in the smartphone market with that step. This service is useful and may attract enthusiasts because it become free. But I do not know if will be enough to stop the decline in market share of Nokia," said analyst Michael Schroeder of the FIM. (Fyk / Faw)

  • Nokia 5800 ovi map in isreal ?

i wonder if free ovi maps will be
    Available
    in isreal ?

Well, first off, there is no OVI maps v10, just Ovi Maps 3.03 is the latest. When you have that, with the blue "world map" homescreen, then navigation is free.

  • Ovi Maps won't open in Nokia 700

I bought Nokia 700 2 months ago and I have been using Ovi Maps perfectly until last week, when after plugging my device in to my laptop I got a message that I should update the Maps application. I followed the instructions but there was not enough disc space, so the installation stopped. I unplugged the device and made some space, then plugged the device again and performed the update.
After that, I can use the navigation application as well as the check-in application normally, but the Maps won't open from the icon. I tried reinstalling software, reinstalling the maps, nothing. I cannot find the Ovi Maps version as the application does not appear in the Application Manager. I open the Maps settings, I can see the maps I have installed, but no info on the version.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks!

OK, I think I solved the problem.
I had to open Ovi Store and download an update of the Ovi Maps (v3.09). It took some time but it now works fine. I couldn't find this update elsewhere, only through the Ovi store.
I hope this hels you as well.

  • Route tracking with Ovi Maps without internet conn...

I have been trying to find an app, which would track my  route without connecting to the  internet. This is important in two cases: 1. when there is no service (in the mountains, for instance) 2. when it is prohibitively expensive (like abroad). It is great that I can download Ovi Maps for any location in the world, but I cannot really use it as every app that I know is trying to connect. I found one app, which came close, Parking 2. It does use Ove Maps and one would think that you can track back your car looking at the pre-loaded maps, but this is not the case. It still connects and then loads the maps (which are already pre-loaded on the phone!). And if there is no connection, there are no maps.
Does anyone know of a free or paid app, which can do exactly that: track your route based on the pre-loaded Ovi Maps without connecting to the net?
Thank you in advance for any info

@optiplex - I Understand where you are coming from. It sounds fairly simple. Unfortunately, the maps that ovi has for places like ladakh and other places in the Himalayas are fairly featureless. There are no contours on the map for where the terrain is mountainous. For instance, I have planned an expedition in the Tsomoriri - Peldo - Skarchyu sector. The Terrain ranges from 15000 ft to 22000 + ft. Straight line just aint gonna work. If the map were bit more detailed then I could actually set way points to the destination and then work one way point at a time. Unfortunately, while I am happy that the GPS on N8 works wonderfully well without GPRS/3G or any cellular network, the ovi maps are a let down, in that they are not very detailed. (not talking about cities and towns and not referring to drive navigation at all which according to me works beautifully.)

When I am hiking in the mountains, or when I am abroad touring across some city, I want to see my route on the map, so I can always find my way back.
    1. OVI Maps and Sport Tracker does not need Internet connection if you did the setting correctly.
    2. Sport Tracker will record your trail. The trail can be shown on the Sport Tracker maps. The trail record can also be exported out as KML file and on the PC screen, display the trail on Google Earth.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can use the trail record to guide you back to your starting position while in the mountain.
So how about this method using OVI maps.
    1. Set your Walk navigation to "Straight Line" instead of "Street".
    2. Record your starting position as a Favorite on OVI Maps.
    3. Walk into the mountain.
    3. Use OVI Maps to navigate back to your starting position by selecting "Walk to". OVI maps will show how far and the built in compass will show you which direction is your starting position.
Not sure whether this is what you needed.

  • Ovi maps - turn off

    Hi,
Just wanted to discuss and get your feedback on when do you plan on including voice navigation and updated maps on N900, since its coming pre installed or easily downloaded on various other low cost phones by Nokia - when can we really enjoy Ovi and Nokia products, i switched from sony ericsson years ago, and have tried couple of phones until N900 which has really dispointed as compared to other phones and their support. Although i must say N900 is the best phone i've ever used, and i wish i could have all the functions and features as i enjoyed on less expensive phones

please broswe the forum with greater detail as this has been discussed.
their focus is on meego not maemo, so the n900 will most likely NOT get OVI MAPS VGN unless it is easily ported after meego release.

  • Ovi Maps for E-Series Wish List

I've tried for a while to switch from Google Maps to Ovi Maps, but Ovi Maps is just lacking in too many ways.  I thought it would be time to start a wish list and hope that someone out there in Nokia land is reading:
When looking at search results in Map mode, an up or down press on the 4-way key pad moves to the next or last search item.  This should allow you to scroll around the map and view the proximity of the search items.  It is currently impossible to scroll up or down on the map.  Google Maps uses specific keys for forward and back and leaves the 4-way key pad for navigating.
The data base that Ovi Maps searches (ie restaurants, etc) is very limited.  I often cannot find what I'm looking for and have to go to Google Maps.  In Google, I find what I'm looking for and then have to remember the address to import it into Ovi Maps.  Ovi either needs to get a better way of searching the web or needs to figure out a way to import starred items from Google Maps easily.
Ovi Maps can't look inside my own phone at the Contacts for an address.  So often I am looking for an address that is in my contacts.  It would be great if Ovi Maps could look up a contact.  Should be easy, right?  Since Nokia wrote the Contacts app and the Ovi Maps app, they should be able to link them easily.
Thanks for reading.  Please add to this list as you see fit.

    your phone needs reset.
Soft reset(reformat). Type *#7370# and the phone's lock code (Nokia default lock code is 12345). Soft reset wipes the C drive.
Would a soft reset remove all installed apps from C drive, ie. OVI Maps, Opera Mobile?  And would it affect firmware upgrades, and your contacts and saved messages?
This returns device to "out of the box" condition, anything you have added or installed will be erased. OVI Maps will return to version pre-installed in device software, but any firmware upgrades remain in place.

    IT"S not so easy bit!!!
The russian voice for auto navigation is present - BUT for pedestrian navigation is absent!!!
No russian voice with street names!!!!!!!!!!!!
The many countries with small population has voice with street names but Russia with 150 millions population does not have voice with street names at now!! Only one stantard voice!!!
The Nokia already known about this situation and say me that send this is info to Navteq and Navteq work on this... but so many changes and so voices with street names present for other countries but for Russia no even now... It's shame for Navteq/Nokia and too big disrespect and not understanding the market situation... In Russia many people bay the Nokia product and at even now Nokia has ~30% on market in Russia!!!

  • NO STREETS OR ROADS ON OVI MAPS IN THE UK ON 5800

i've no idea how to fix this. changed all the settings to how was recommended on posts already here but still nothing. its like the east coast of england has disappeared from derby eastwards, partners also has a 5800 but nothing wrong with hers.even zooming in on cities that are there is no good cos the streets disappear.  will a hard reset fix it\? i've already updated firmware and reinstalled ovi maps.  thanks

Try deleting E:\CITIES + .qf file from memory card, re-run OVI Maps application on device one more time to define folder structure required by OVI Suite > Maps and try again.
Bear in mind with a 5800XM that there is the option to upgrade to OVI Maps v3.06 pre-release at Nokia Beta Labs (sign in with Nokia ID & password) which enables you to download maps directly to device using WLAN obviating need for PC entirely.

How can I re-install or recover my pre-installed ovi map in C7?
