Ovi/Nokia Maps being updated?

Hello,
I have submitted a few 'wrong location' reports via my phone and after months - nothing has changed.
My N8 says they were submitted.....
Does someone look after the maps or have they been abandoned?
Thanks,

VeePee: Are they phasing the mapping out?
I don't think so. Roads that are considered important are pretty well updated when needed.
But I have to say, that Navteq's responsibility to error reports has been lousy and seems to get worse! Three or four years ago I got reactions to my reports within a year. Now all seem to go to a black hole. Sometimes the error in map data has been corrected, but my error report has not been 'closed'. This is awkward but understandable: Perhaps many people reported the same error or Navteq noticed it itself.
Current Navteq responsibility actively dicourages users from helping them.

    Hi knownothing
Last version of Nokia Maps v2.0_4503 here:http://europe.nokia.com/A4984199
Latest version of Nokia Maploader allows you to connect both in default PC Suite mode and Data transfer mode so don't get Windows warning for removing USB mass storage device and more options of Maps, Voices and Store available in Maploader.
If you into Connectivity > USB > USB mode - choice of four connection modes.

  • Nokia Maps next update, when?

I'm Nokia Maps user from Finland, and I want know, when Nokia launch new version on this program? Reason is, this map/navigation program is full error. I'm use this program only one week, and I was found over ten route/navigation errors. My last navigation software works very well, but this is terrible!
Can Nokia made some web side, if customer want leave some deveploment idea? Example, I need usually more navigation point on my route. Now I can add only start and end-point. Usuallu, when I drive long trip, I want find some petrol station or something near my route. Now I must stop navigation and try find some petrol station and I can do it, but I don't know, witch direction this station is and how near this is on my route. Second, why navigation program not release connection on my HF-system after turn (or something else indication)? Now, when I use navigation, my car radio is all time muted amd I can't listen music, it's pooring.

  • Nokia Maps / Ovi Maps Installer

    Hi All,
I heard that we were now able to get maps and navigatoin for free, is this correct? I have a n95 and when I go to use the navigation feature in Nokia Maps (just updated it), it says that navigation is a premium service and that I have to pay for it.
I thought there might be a new program available so I tried to install Ovi Maps from the Ovi Store on the phone but it just gets to "preparing to install" and then says "Update Error" and quits.
I have tried reinstalling the firmware but get the same response. Does anybody know what is going on, have I missed something?
    Thank you.
    Tom

    Hi Gregorycharper,
As your phone is a S60 5th edition, I believe that the last stable release of Nokia Maps was 3.06. Versions afterwards like 3.07, 3.08 and 3.09 were solely for Symbian^3 devices running Symbian^3, Symbian Anna and Nokia Belle: http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-07/download_and_installation  I'm not too sure if 3.06 graduated from Beta Labs into Nokia Store, but you can always check Nokia Store for the latest version listed there.
Yes, you could always switch your SIM card and memory card with your son's phone if you believe it is a software issue, or that it is a hardware issue. Likewise, checking the Maps data and installations when your phone is connected to your computer in Nokia Suite. Apart from Nokia Suite and Nokia Maps on the Nokia website to download the installation files, there is not really any other place to source the installation files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Nokia maps updated and after a soft reset..

After I installed the nokia maps suite update, I decided to do a soft reset on my n8. I'm always using nokia pc suite to install apps, maps, voice files and software updates. But now, I can't update my maps via nokia suite. I'm using the latest stable nokia suite (not beta) I also tried to restore but it's a no go.

What's the error it's giving when you try to update the maps? I assume it's just the regional map data you're trying to get, and the app is on your phone OK.
Have you run the maps application on your phone? On first start it has to create some directories, only after it's done this can you install maps and languages.
Also might be worth trying the latest beta from here if you're still having issues: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-maps-suite it does say one of the fixes is a maploader download issue.... this may be exactly what you need!

  • Have a problem with updated Nokia maps

i installed the lasted update of Nokia maps on my N86 8mp and now the gps icon doesn't disappear from the screen after i turn off the navigation and the direction voice doesn't work with the FM transmitter, i have tryed reset my phone and put everything back both with safety backup and from scratch (toke a couple of hours to get all stuff back) but i still have the problems

This feature is not currently supported by Nokia Maps. (despite it being included in the previous versions of Ovi Maps)
Many Betalabs Users have been requesting this feature for a long time.
To add your support, please join nokia beta labs (if not already) and support the following post:
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-maps-suite-2-0/suggestion/48288/voice-navigation-over-fm-transm...
It is interesting to note that somewhere in the Nokia chain this request has been denied. I have suggested a petition from us (users) may give the Nokia development team the support they need to gain approval for this.

  • Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps - do I need both?

I am sure this question has been asked already but I cannot find it having spent some time doing a search.
The question is do I need both or can I dispense with one? If so, with what consequences?
The position is that I tried to update Ovi maps but couldn't because there was insufficient space on drive C, so I thought I would delete it and then I would be able to install the new version. Unfortunately wrong again - still insufficient space on drive C. Hence my question - do I need both maps? Life would be easier just with Nokia maps in the circumstances.

Thanks. Can I take it that Nokia Maps is pre-installed? Would I be correct in concluding that I can delete Ovi Maps to save space and just update Nokia Maps from time to time?
If Nokia Maps is not updated from time to time I would need to install Ovi Maps to keep up-to-date?
I have I think deleted Ovi Maps but I still have Maps. In fact I am fairly certain I have all the maps I downloaded from OVi Maps. When I run Maps the screen refers to "Ovi Maps". Perhaps I haven't uninstalled Ovi Maps at all although the programme said that I had! Perhaps it is Ovi Maps that is pre-installed.
Sorry but I remain confused and hope I can through this tread clear it up once and for all.

  • Ovi maps and Nokia Maps

I have recently downloaded the ovi maps update for free navigation on my 5800 however now I seem to have 2 programs in my installed apps menu, Ovi maps and Nokia maps. This is causing me some problems as my phones built in memory is now completely full and I am unable to do some things as I have ran out of on phone memory space. Which one is the main map software? And also can I uninstall one? If not then can it be installed on a MSD card and if yes how?

As far as I can determine Ovi maps is the mapping software (program) which installs to C (phone memory) and Nokia maps is the map data that you have loaded which I believe are installed to E (mass memory).
I can confirm that you do need both installed.
The problem as far as I can see is that the previous maps versions 3.01 is built into the current firmware (v20 for N97 - not sure for 5800) and installing maps 3.03 does not remove or overwrite the earlier version so you end up with both versions installed and thus the extra memory footprint.
This will remain a problem until a newer firmware is released which will hopefully have maps 3.03 (or later depending when next firmware is released) thus reducing the extra 9 megs or so used.
    Hope this answers your question

  • Nokia N8 - cannot update device software and Maps ...

A couple of days ago I tried to update my N8-00 software using Ovi Suite (installed version 3.1.0.91). It reported that there were various updates available, including Ovi Maps and the device software itself and also some other apps (mostly games). I selected the Ovi Maps and device software for update and clicked Next ... but at some point soon thereafter the update failed for no apparent reason.
Now, when I check for updates using Ovi Suite it tells me that my current device s/w is v014.002 and that an update is available. But when I click on the Update button and come to the next screen, the device update is not shown in the list on the next screen of the wizard. Instead, a list of useless apps and games is shown, none of which I'm interested in. I cannot click the Next button because nothing is selected (the device s/w item is not shown in the list). Clearly I can only continue if I select on the these games and that is all that will be installed.
If I check for updates on the phone itself over WiFi I only get the message that no updates are available.
Now I've previously had issues with updates done directly on the phone where the downloaded update installs got corrupted or something and was able to recover using the steps in this blog posting:
    http://www.orison.biz/blogs/chall3ng3r/?p=2871
but this procedure is not helping in this case, even after deleting the E:\PRIVATE\20019119 folder.
So my question is: does Ovi Suite have a similar issue in that it stores corrupted/incomplete update installers in a folder and is unable to recover from this situation, thinking that those updates have already been installed? If so, where is that folder and what should I delete to ensure that all updates are again available for installation.
Would removing and reinstalling Ovi Suite help in this case?

    @archie_
On N8 PR1.2 you should have been able to update to Ovi Maps v3.06 via SW updates, which is now pre-installed in Symbian Anna. What version are you saying is installed upon your N8?

  • Nokia Maps: No traffic even after successful updat...

Hi, I’ve been using Nokia Maps for my 5800 and have been very impressed (it’s not perfect but given it’s free...). However, the only one bit that seems to *never* work is the traffic updates (I have tried several times). When using navigation, I choose “update traffic”, it says “updated successfully” but I see no traffic anywhere (on the map, on the traffic update screen...).
Any ideas!? Traffic would be really useful!
(I am UK based using 5800 and v3.03 of Nokia Maps...and there has definitely been traffic when I’ve checked!)

    Hi,
I'm in the UK and was stuck in huge traffic jam on the M60 motorway yesterday and the ovi maps version 3.03 didn't show any traffic problems, despite having the phone report that it had successfully updated the traffic information.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Dave.

  • Update Nokia Maps

    Hi,
Does anybody knows if and when there will be an update of Nokia Maps? My latest maps version is : 00.02.50.103 that was released on 03/07/2013.
Recently I'm helping to improve maps data via Here.com. So I would be happy to get updates in return.

My understanding is that the Maps for Symbian will no longer be updated. I am not sure how or why.  Lumia devices use Here Maps where Symbian devices uses Nokia Maps, although my Symbian device will sync my waypoints with here.com.  I don't know if they both pull data from the same servers but my guess is they don't, from information I have read. My main reason for owning a Nokia device (Symbian) is for the offline maps and the full array of mapping functions.  Lumia devices also have offline maps (those that I am aware of, at least) but they have much more limited functionality for what I do.  I have begun to transition off of Nokia Maps (here.com, or whatever the case may be) to some other services due to the uncertainty of the future of the service. At this point, the only thing I use Nokia Maps for is voice navigation and to sync my waypoints.  I will soon be moving my waypoints to other services and with the vast amount of services provided for voice navigation, Nokia's voice navigation is now no longer needed by me.  Sorry this isn't much of an anwer but I think it is safe to say that maps for Symbian are no longer being updated.

  • Nokia maps suite 2.0 update- any issues?

My phone is showing up an update Nokia maps suite 2.0 on software update client. Has anybody installed this update? I am a bit apprehensive because the Nokia maps 3.08 we got as update last time had problems and it had to taken off from the servers. I just want to confirm that this has no issues.
In Love With My C6-01:Now running on Nokia Belle!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I upgraded to the new "official" versioin using Nokia Suite.  The upgrade seemed to go smoothly, but when I was still waiting five or six minutes after it said "one minute left" I got concerned.  I didn't stop anything on the PC - I simply picked up the phone and started 'Maps'.
Whether i was coincidence or just my timing, the process completed on the PC, just as Maps was starting up on the phone.
Indoors, it was no longer sure of my location - it kept changing me to random places that were close to where I live, but not not correct.  That's when I had to stop.
The next day, on a trip from Miami to Ft. PIerce, the software seemed to work beautifully.  I like the revised interface.  The phone worked fine, and I was quite pleased with it all.
(I didn't know about the 20-megs of space being taken up in C: memory - if so, I'm hoping Nokia will correct this.  As to the update, I don't know if the installation just "hanging" on my PC was normal - if I would have kept on waiting, maybe it would have completed without my having started the software on my phone.  Overall, I'm quite pleased - but keep in mind that Nokia Maps is now the single biggest reason why I'm still using a N8.)
