Ovi Player only displays .mp3 files on my N97

Hi all,
I'm having problems with Ovi Player. First it caused severe problems with my music library app on the phone, which wasn't able to read any files from the file system. I managed to fix this by formatting the whole mass storage.
Later, after importing music files from PC to N97, Ovi Player doesn't display any.m4a files (which I ripped from original CDs using the very same application!), only .mp3 ones. Any ideas on possible causes and solutions?

Multimedia player not listing mp3 files

O wise ones,
I installed the latest pc suite. The Nokia Multimedia Player does not show any .mp3 files. Under 'view/options/formats' many formats are listed but not .mp3.
How to get .mp3 in that list?

I have reached a very painstaking solution to my problem. I have gone track by track to Audacity and opened these tracks in Audacity. Thereafter I copy and paste into a fresh Audacity file and export as mp3. I dont know how exactly the resulting mp3 file is different from the original, but the new file is picked up by iTunes.
For a tousand tracks I can see a lifetime of misery doing this.
If I go to "get info" by right clicking the original and remake file in Finder, I can see almost identical properties. But in a crucial section "more info" within that get-info dialog box, i can see a lot more fairly ordinary information in the new file, but for the original file, it is strangely compressed and little is visible. So in terms of properties that have changed, I am still blind.
I wish there were a way to batch process all 100 old files that wont get included in iTunes into the new format, after of course knowing what exactly is the change that has happened.

The finder (almost) never displays mp3 files' bitrates

Hi everyone,
Using a finder's display in columns, when I select a mp3, the appearing column on the right displays all infos (name, type, size, length, sample rate...), except "bitrate" which 90% of the time displays a frustrating "--" (instead of 192, 256 ou 320 kbps).
This happens with whatever bitrates, for bought or homemade mp3s. It may sound trivial but as far as I'm concerned this is a huge failure (I remember that Win 95 did that just fine). It's been 3 or 4 years since I switched to OSX and I've been using the free software MP3-Info to bypass this problem, but it remains... frustrating.

Why can i only share mp3 files, not m4a or m4b

hi all. using 10.4.5 and now itunes 6.0.3
i use the griffin radioshark to record a radio program. it allows me to make bookmarkable aac files (.m4b) which i love. the audio quality is great and i don't lose my place over the 5 hour recording time.
but i've noticed that the playlist of these radio programs that i have set to share in itunes are not playable. they appear, but stay stuck at 0:00 when you click "play." i've also noticed that they are listed as "protected aac format" and feature the lock badge on each file's icon.
obviously these are not fairplay encoded tracks (like those purchased from the itunes music store).
any ideas?

I can't get download to work - it will not copy the mp3 file to my chosen location (as set in tools/options) - it gives me a new window with a player - no dwnlo

I am running windows xp sp2 and I have set my dowload location under (tools/options), but when I select an MP3 file to download, firefox does NOT copy the file to my chosen location on my HD - instead, it opens up a new window with a makeshift "player" and begins loading the player with the MP3 file. The problem is that I have no idea where on my system firefox has copied this file to, so, I cannot leave and come back later and play this MP3 file using winamp. I have to listen to it right then or lose it - if I close that new window (with that puny little "player"), then I lose the download, wherever firefox put it on my PC (I got no idea where it is). This is all under firefox 25.0
I am also running FIrefox 12.0 on an older windows 2000 machine and that works perfectly - I can download any MP3 file I want, and firefox 12.0 (on win2k, sp4) downloads it to my chosen location (on my HD), and it gives me the download window so I can watch its progress and have some control over pause, and resume, and, when it is done, the download window offers me the option to "open containing folder" so I can make sure it got to where I wanted it. In other words, Firefox 12.0 on WIn2k, sp4 works better than firefox 25.0 on winxp sp2!!!!! What gives? I went through and set up my options for XP just like I did with Win2k and it all looks good, but firefox 25.0 just ignores my chosen location and always defaults to give me that makeshift player and I am not able to actually copy the mp3 file to my harddrive - it makes firerox 25.0 almost unusable since downloading mp3 files is a big part of my firexfox use - please help - I am not able to upgrade windows at this time, and, since firefox 12.0 still works fine on win2k, I can't understand what happened at firefox?

I tried it again using "save link as", and this time it actually worked! I just now downloaded several more using the "save link as" option, and it works perfectly. Thanks. Problem solved.

Possible to let Ovi Player detect songs already on...

Well, I currently use iTunes Agent in order to sync my Itunes playlist to my phone using the Mass Storage mode.
However, I noticed that such songs do not get detected by the Ovi Player at all. I want to use Ovi Player in order to create playlists easily on my Nokia 5800 (it's hard marking individual songs to the playlist in the phone itself).
However, it seems that the Ovi Player is unable to detect songs in such a mode.
Why is this so?
I find this rather frustrating since the Mass Storage mode has far faster file transfer rates than in the PC Suite mode. Also, does this mean that if I reformat my computer or use another computer then Ovi Player would once again be unable to detect my songs on my fone?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ovi Player only supports MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) devices. This is required to ensure that the tracks are copied along with the licenses. In Mass storage mode, the files are copied on a bit by bit bases, which will not create a license on the phone. MTP is a wellknown standard for media transfers. Most of the Phones and MP3 players have MTP support and they all work with Ovi Player without any problems.
If you transfer the songs/playlist using the Mass Storage Mode, then refresh the music library on the Phone first and then connect the phone to Ovi Player. I would not suggest you to transfer Playlist using this method as it will not work on the Phone. It will be easy for you to create a playlist in Ovi Player and transfer it to the phone using Ovi Player. This will ensure that all the songs and the playlist are copied in a proper format, so that phone will be able to play it.

How to move mp3 files from NOMAD ZEN JUKEBOX to PC???

I have the creative nomad extra jukebox zen 30gb player. I have big trouble to move my mp3 to my pc! Is there any way to do this? I can do it with sync but some of the songs have the same name ( 0,02,03) and even when those songs are in folders,the software ( media source) dont recognize it this way-so it will skip the ones with same name and Ill loose some of the tracks. Is there any other way to move it all? or also to choose only certain mp3 files to be moved other software maybe? thank you very much!

I went to preferences and set the music file address to the folder which contains all of my MP3 files. I
That will tell iTunes to use this folder. iTunes does not "watch" this folder to see if anything is added. You have to add it to the library yourself and iTunes will put it in this folder under Artist -> Album.
If you IMport a file, it will convert it to the format set in teh iTUnes prefs. If you Add a file, it will simply add it to the library in the format it already is.
To get music into iTunes;
- insert a CD and select Import.
- click on iTunes Music Store and purchase songs.
- go to iTunes menu - File -> Add (Folder or file) to library and select the file/folder.
- Drag songs onto iTunes.
To get music onto the iPod;
- Plug it in.
Yeah, it really is that simple.
Easiest way to manage your library is to use iTunes.
Edit the ID3 tags, add delete songs and put them onto the iPod.

A problem with nokia ovi player on n8-00

I'd like to have some help about nokia ovi player.
Recently I had a french singer (léo ferré) but ovi playe doesn't recognize this artist and so it doesn't how to classify this album so he rename some songs, use some single song as an album ...
And it's the same thing in my computer "my music" file. Ovi player consider some song as an album and not those song as part of an ablum.
This is really annoying because ovi player only does what it wants and i can't do anything to do what I want with ... !!!

I hope some one can help me, perhaps a nokia member team.

How can I fix 2121 sandbox security error, local swf MP3 player test calls MP3's from website?

1st Issue. I am a new user and am fighting #2121, #2044 & #2048 Flash security errors in getting an MP3 player to work as I test the fla file in Flash CS4 on my local computer. The fla in Flash and swf in Dreamweaver calls mp3 files from our host server on the internet.
After reading various sparce posts and Adobe articles on this issue, I have added a crossdomain.xml file at our websites root (see file below) and added the code, flash.system.Security.allowDomain in line 1 of the action script of the flash fla to allow our site access (-see script below). These efforts have helped get the player to work better on our test site.
But, I am still getting the 2121 error within Flash CS4 as I debug the player or play the swf in live view within Dreamweaver. Playing the fla or swf will lock-up the Flash 10 player and crash the program. I am having the mp3 player access the mp3 files from our web site as I test the fla.
Here is the debug message I am getting:

2nd Issue. The online playback of the mp3 player will play about 4-7 mp3’s then lock-up in Internet Explorer 8 on a pc. I think that is related to flash security, not sure, I do not know how to debug the mp3 player on the web site.

Watch out, iTunes 10.4.1 is deleting my MP3 files!

Just to let you know —
iTunes has been pretty unstable since my upgrade to Lion 10.7.1 and iTunes 10.4.1. When it crashes, it seems that there is a library corruption that happens but that only affects MP3 files.
I'm really bummed since my Mac didn't have time to properly back up to Time Machine since the upgrade, and so all my Amazon MP3 purchases are gone … thanks iTunes for deleting a competitor's music files.

Spotlight does what it is said to do in the preferences. Sometimes a better search job is needed. you could use Easyfind (free).
But IMHO it is not Apple that make your files disappear; sometimes the user overlooks changes in apps or OS, so that he by mistakes gets an unexpected "result". You should never point at the other person. Also you can not point at the manufacturer of your car when you put gas in the tank that is meant for water....
But I am happy for you that the "damage" is manageable.
Now this is Martins thread, and he has a serious problem, but hopefully he can do something with Chris' suggestion.

ICloud: Will it work with non-iTunes music, converted MP3 files and manually organized library folder?

I have a small question about the new iCloud that was introduced.
I listen to music both on my notebook and on my desktop PC. At the moment I use an external hard drive that I keep with me so my music library exists on both computers. If I'm correct the new iCloud means I no longer need the external hard drive.
But,
Not all my music was purchased through iTunes. Some things are converted from CD's I bought and the CD is different from the iTunes version. (More songs, other songs,...) What happens with the songs that are different, or music that does not exist (I have a QOTSA CD which is not available outside the US iTunes store, or several LE bonus discs)?
Some local artists are not on the iTunes store. Is it possible to sync those to?
And the most important one, I also listen to my music in my car. It has support for an SD-card but no USB support so I can't hook my iPod. It only accepts MP3 files and it needs correctly filled in ID3 tags to show up nicely. I convert all my music with iTunes to MP3, but I use MusicBrainz to tag my music because I found that the iTunes ID3 tags will not be correctly picked up. I'm quite happy with this approach as it also means that I can organize my music library to my liking instead of the "let's throw all artists in one folder" approach iTunes uses. Is it possible to use the iCloud with my MP3 converted and tagged versions of my Music?

You can only sync to one iTunes library/computer. If you do sync the iPod is erases and its contents replaced with what is in the iTunes library of the second computer.

Convert AAC into mp3 files?

Hi all my music is in i tunes and I want to put some onto a 2 gb memory stick so that I can play it in my cay unfortuantly it only accepts MP3 files does any one know how I convert them .

Yes. When you convert them to MP3s the original AAC versions will still be in your library as well. Anyways, once they have been converrted, locate these newly converted tracks on your HD and copy them over to the memory stick.
