Ovi Suite 2 on Windows 7 maybe a solution for slow...

I was having issues with Ovi Suite on Windows 7, instead of using the normal when connecting select PC Suite, I chose Mass Storage instead the other night and it now syncs a lot faster, normally for me it fails.
just my 2 cents
what do other think? Try it and let me know?

Hi,
What Ovi suite version you are trying to use?
I think the best thing at this point is to reboot your PC. Once rebooted then please check that there is no nokiaovisuite.exe running in Task Manager (just to be sure it is not automatically started). Then start Ovi Suite (you can start it also as an admin if needed). Make sure you are not trying to run Nokia Software Updater at the same time.
It would be helpful if you could also provide your system details for us.

    ANY HELP.

First of all..OVI Suite is now called NOKIA Suite. If you do not have the latest version, download from here and install on your PC.
Open Nokia Suite -->Tools-->Options-->General..and under Notification Options confirm that the Box is un-checked..and you should see the Notifications on your PC..

  • OVI Suite 3 no window controls

I just got prompted to upgrade from OVI suite 2.2 something to the new version 3.  Upon doing that my Ovi Suite window has no Microsoft window controls.  I have to use the ovi icon down on the task bar to close the program.  Is this by design?  How do I restore the window controls?

Could you please attach a screenshot? I am sorry i could not understand the exact problem.

  • N97 - Ovi Suite Connection Problem - Windows 7

    Hi all.
I have N97, firmware version 20.0.019 (t mobile - **bleep** with the old firmware updates.... )
I am running windoze 7 with all updates etc.
I have the latest version of nokia Ovi Suite and the latest version of Nokia PC Suite.
I am reluctantly trying to get used to using ovi suite instead of PC ever since Nokia's update page seemed to suggest I should be using OVi suite with this phone.
Anyway bluetooth connection is working fine. I can do all syncs with everything on bluetooth.
USB connection is not, when the phone is connected, and I select PC Suite on the phone, the phone and PC then get stuck in a sort of loop where the PC is "installing drivers" and the phone keeps asking me to select PC Suite mode.  Occasionally I get an error message saying I am stuck in file transfer mode.
I have also tried this after going into settings and setting USB connection mode to PC SUITE only, with Don't Ask selected.
This is profoundly frustrating and also renders the ability to update phone software totally useless because you cannot update via bluetooth, only USB connection.
I am getting mighty peeved off with Nokia's ability to get firmware, and software products right.  Come on guys, hire some decent developers, and/or start responding to feedback from customers like me.  (I'd happily beta test any software, I've done it before for an online game......!!!!)
I am considering selling my N97 online, and just buying an unlocked HTC HD2 after over a decade of using Nokia phones.
    help!
    R

Amazing that so many have responded to this post, and not one has come close to the right answer... I've had the same problem for a while, and at first I thought it was just my old XP notebook - which had more than one problem - or the general poor performance we've come to expect from the N97. I couldn't even sync on Ovi. But with my new Windows 7 notebook in hand, I was all excited to finally update the firmware on my phone - which had been stuck on v12 for a while. Imagine my surprise when I still had the same problems with my brand-new notebook. I started browsing around for more help than this thread, and found that Nokia has released a software update program seperate from Ovi Suite. Just google "Nokia Software Updater for Windows 7" or whatever version of windows you have, download & install. You might need to kill three "Nokia..." processes in the Task Manager to let it run, because it seems Ovi suite has these processes starting up with Windows. (Amazing when they program applications to do that without your permission!) Why on earth would Ovi Suite need to run three processes on my machine anyway, if I haven't even started up the program after reboot? But still, this program wouldn't connect to my N97 via USB. I clicked on the icon in the system tray showing the drivers installing after I plugged it in, and found the culprit: The installation of the driver for "MTP USB Device" failed. Googled that, and found that there are a lot of people having problems with that, from cameras to cellphones to mp3 players. Tried a few suggestions I found, and ended up having to uninstall all my (brand new?) USB controllers (under "Device Manager") and deactivate Windows Media Player from "Windows Features", reboot, then re-activate Windows Media Player - something to do with MTP Devices getting their drivers from Windows Media Player. Not sure if it was one or both of these fixes, but then Nokia Software Updater connected to my N97 with no problem. Installed the software update, and now all is good again. Incidentally, after the software update was complete, a whole bunch of different drivers were installed when I connected the USB... the main one changed from "Nokia ... Parent ..." something to "Nokia... Flashing..." something - and Ovi Suite connects fine now as well! Good luck to everyone who had this problem - it's been fun.

  • Maybe the solution for the BDM crashing

    HEY GUYS!
I found a solution(at least for me) for the same crashing situation thats everyone have.
First, I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3.
I tried everything post in this forum, even in other forums. I've checked the recommend configuration to see if I'm missing something. I saw maybe my .Net framework was not up-to-date so after installing the v4, it dosen't do anything better. So here is the step I made to solve this :
    - Start BDM
    - Crash occur
    - Plugged my Blackberry without selecting in the device what I wanna do
    - A message appear on my computer saying it missed a filled to continue, Xmllite.dll
    - Gone to MS website to download the package : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915865/fr
    - Installed it
    - Always with the device plugged, i start BDM
    - IT WORKS! NO CRASH!
So give it a try to see if it can be the solution for all of us. If so... Merry Christmas!

Thank you for your solution...happy Christmas

  • My ipod is not being recognized by Windows XP. Any Solutions for this problem?

When I plug in my ipod to my ASUS Netbook it says, "Usb Device Not Recognized". When I tried a different device it vworked fine, so is there a problem with the ipod itself?

What were the other devices? If not an iPod touch, iPhone or iPad then try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
If one was one of those devices then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Maybe a solution for those with 10.4.7 mail issue

I've been having the same problems with mail.app, prefs., sending and recieving after installing the 10.4.7 combo. Tried everything that's been posted and finally got mail.app to work after one last attempt at fixing the problem.
I closed mail.app then moved the "Mail" folder, which contained everything mail.app related, from my user library to my desk top, opened mail which then prompted me to give permission to retrieve info(I don't remember the exact request, sorry) it took about 2 sec. then I was back in business. The only thing left was to move my "Mail" folder back to it's original location and everythings seems A.O.K.
1 suggestion, maybe good idea to make a copy of your "Mail" folder and keep it safe incase of any unforseen problems before going ahead with the above mentioned.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ovi Suite 2 Stopped Working~Windows 7 64-bit

My English is not good please forgive me
I was in Beijing, China user, I use Ovi Suite, download a map of Beijing documents, Ovi suite shows "preparing to download the map", the pop-up "Ovi Suite 2 Stopped Working". Why? Why is this the case?
    I am very depressed

Hi, I had about the same problem for weeks.
System: Windows 7 Professional X64, no SP
    Ovi Suite: 2.1.1.1
    Device: Nokia N97, SW 21.0.102, Special-Software 21.0.102.238.03
Language: All systems and devices in German
After I installed Ovi Suite from the scratch, after freshly installed Windows 7 System, it ran correctly.
So I installed and configured the Windows System like I want it. After quite some time, the Ovi App began to hang and did not work properly anymore.
A reinstall of the Suite led into the above mentioned problems. It just hung up, right after start. No possibility to connect the mobile device or configuration.
The main message I got from Windows message report was that Nokia M Platform lost its connection. Nokia M Platform 2.6.86 (NLib 0.8.552)
Another earlier message said: Nokia M Data Store opened at location "C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\Thumbnail\DataBase\MDataStore.db3"
I checked the path and the datastore and renamed "\Thumbnail\DataBase\MDataStore.db3" to "MDataStore.db3_old" and also "\Nokia Data Store\DataBase\MDataStore.db3" to "MDataStore.db3_old".
Now the installation runs fine again and the Ovi Suite does not hang anymore. The only disadvantage in my case was, that I use the Nokia Music Player and all my playlists etc. were gone after I renamed the database.

    Hi esiemi,
If you are willing to contribute your findings in Nokia OVI Suite 2.0 BETA, you can install NOS 2.0 from Nokia beta labs forum ... you can give your suggestions/reviews/discussion or else you can create bug report for the same, so that it may help in bettering the NOS 2.0 applications.....
Else you can wait it till it gets graduated from Nokia beta labs forum....

  • How to install ovi suite to a drive other than C:?...

how to install ovi suite to a drive other than c:??? my c: drive is almost full with other partitions perfectly free to install it, how do i do that? can i use previous versions of ovi suite to use with my e63? at this point, i'm unable to use ovi suite at all, because there's no room to install it on my c: drive.
allllllllso there's one more thing, when i originally had tried installing ovi suite on my computer i had more than 1gb free. after installing it i on'ly had 500mb free. i had only intended for it to use a very small amount of space, and since i also use my c: drive for virtual memory i quickly uninstalled it, looking for an option i'd maybe skipped over while installing it the first time. no luck. anyways, when i looked in the add/remove programs control panel the installed size of ovi suite was only 40-50mb. even after uninstalling ovi suite the extra memory space that seemed to all of a sudden taken up by the installation stayed used.
when looking at the file sizes of everything on my hard drive, (including system files and paging file) there is still a descreprency between the amount of memory used and the size of all files total on the drive. at this point im quite disgusted and disapointed in ovi suite as i'm mostly unable to use it to connect my phone to my computer and i'm also having problems with the CA101 cable as well. i guess i'll have to go check for another cable.
nokia!!! wake up and fix yo **bleep**!!!!
anyone have any solutions for the main problem? (installing to a drive other than c? is there support for this option in any of the new beta versions? can that be included in the newest betas? i'm suuuuuure i'm not the only one begging for this option!!!

Hi ostrenga4, sorry to hear about your experiences.
When installing Nokia Ovi Suite to PC, Windows makes "system restoration points", which are available to restore operating system to previous condition, if something goes wrong, for example in driver installation.
You can change install location of Nokia Ovi Suite with following:
    - Download Nokia Ovi Suite install package from Nokia Ovi Suite pages
    - Start Windows Command prompt
    - From Command prompt, navigate to folder containing Nokia Ovi Suite install package, which you downloaded
    - Start Nokia Ovi Suite install package with command line "Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller.exe /TARGET="D:\TestDir\Test"
    - This results, that Nokia Ovi Suite installer creates folder D:\TestDir\Test (if that doesn't exist) and installs Nokia Ovi Suite there.
    - Unfortunately, Windows Installer still keeps installer cache files and system restoration points in C: drive (or whatever your system drive is)
As you can see, this is possible, but it is very much recommend to have enough space for installing software into system drive.
    Cheers, Samuli

  • Ovi Suite + 5230 USB not working

    Preamble:
I recently connected my Nokia 5230 mobile phone to my PC via USB connection and loaded up Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23). Everything worked lovely. But alas! Both an Ovi suite update was available, as well as a update for the phone itself! So I downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.0.0.284).
Unfortunately, now Ovi Suite does not detect when I select "PC Suite" USB mode (selected on the phone screen). This essentially makes Ovi Suite useless.
So I followed some advice on other discussion pages (more on that later) and reinstalled the Ovi Suite. The problem persisted.
Here are some pictures to help you understand my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/5IknF.jpg
The computer is able detect the phone is connected via USB. I can even browse the contents of the phone memory and memory card. Upon detecting the connected phone, and me pressing 'PC Suite' on the phone screen, it will show this:
    http://i.imgur.com/lV0rs.jpg
I cannot progress past this screen. The Ovi Suite simply does not recognise that I've selected that option on the phone.
    Defense:
I know what your thinking. "Just another USB thread". Well, I did in fact read plenty of threads on this forum before posting, and have spent the last few hours uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and drivers in various ways (as suggested in those threads), with no success.
The following is a list of forum threads which I have read and tried all the solutions found in each, and I have copied the solutions (which appear to have worked for other people), for your convenience:
    /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/Ovi-Suite-PC-Suite-USB-Connection-Problem/td-p/682828
Solutions which did not work for me:
Could you please follow these steps and check?
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
    1. Uninstall all nokia related applications like Ovisuite, pc suite, connectivity cable driver,pc connectivity solutions, nokia software updater etc. from ur PC.
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Now download and install the recent ovisuite from http://www.ovi.com/suite
    4. After installation, disconnect/disable your internet connection (this will make sure that the PC use the drivers which comes with ovisuite and  prevent the PC from downloading any new drivers from internet) and then connect your mobile and wait for drivers and support software installation.
    5. After drivers installation you can connect your mobile to ovisuite from ovisuite screen.

Solution which did not work for me:
    Hi GannonC,
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs.
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.
    http://www.ovi.com/suite
After OVi Suite installation, restart your PC, disconnect your internet from PC and connect your mobile to the PC. This is to prevent the PC searching for a new drivers from internet. OVi suite has all the required drivers for all the nokia phones available in market.
Once all the required drivers are installed automatically, you try connecting the mobile by selecting 'Connect your device' from the bottom left on the OVi suite screen. You should be able to connect your device now.
After connecting you can go ahead and update your maps/ download new country maps.
NOTE: before updating your maps/ download new country maps, you should have used your maps in you mobile atleast once.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
You can connect back your internet anytime after the drivers installation.

    Zship's revelations:
So this is not really a problem for me. I have the working, older (2.2.1.23) version of Ovi Suite installed on my netbook, and sure enough, it works fine, I just tried it. I wont be updating Ovi Suite on it though. I also could probably just download the update via 3.5G using just the phone itself, but the problem remains that a simple software update has caused a critical connectivity problem between your software and hardware. Given that many Nokia customers would have less technical know-how than say, myself or anyone else on this forum, this problem is a quite likely a huge inconvenience to them, they probably wouldn't visit these discussions and spend 5 hours reinstalling software like I just did, and they surely would be thinking twice before purchasing another Nokia device in the future.
tl;dr - Nokia recommended update breaks connectivity between software and device, various attempts to fix seemingly simple problem don't work.
    Solved!

SAME PROBLEM. And none of the many suggested solutions has worked for me yet. I want to thank all on this thread (and many others) for their help. I've learned a lot but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. I think maybe Nokia needs to ... uh ... bloody well BOTHER TO FIX THIS ISSUE themselves, maybe. Like, cuz they're PAID FOR IT and I'M NOT. Harrumph.
I run Windows XP, and was on Media Player 11, but have rolled back to 9 and 10. I have a Nokia E 72. I have all the latest Nokia cable-drivers, PC Suite, OVI Suite, Connectivity software, etc.. The symptoms are as follows: when I plug in the phone by USB cable, the laptop won't recognize it. It says "USB device faulty" or "failed to load properly" and refuses to get the hardware into its brain. The Device Manager shows only a "Unknown Device" which I cannot install drivers onto. Taking the extra media-card out of the phone doesn't make any difference -- nothing I've done will make the computer recognize the main (built-in) card in the phone. I can't browse to it via any sort of populate / repopulate disk drive, or any other method of connecting it.
As I understand it, this is some conflict with the phone and the new concept of MTP. Media Transfer Protocol confuses the computer, causing it to kind-of think that the phone is kind-of a media player, when in fact it's a whole lot more. So, the "parent" doesn't get loaded, then the rest of the phone doesn't get loaded, then it kind-of tries to load some MTP but fails, etc.. If I could browse to the phone through a non-Nokia connection I'd be happy to do so in order to implement any of a number of the suggestions above. But I can't get the computer to recognize the phone when the phone is plugged in by USB, regardless of all the solutions above.
The problem began a few days ago. It just up and wouldn't recognize the phone. I hadn't installed any updates that I knew of on either item, but it's possible that my memory is faulty and a newer version of this or that snuck in there and screwed it all up. I have tried a serious roll-back to a Restore Point about six weeks old, but that didn't solve the problem. This suggests to me that the problem is phone-resident, since the rollback was to a computer-based Restore Point and I don't have phone rollback capability.
This seriously hampers me. PC Suite, OVI, and some future version of Nokia Suite, will all be useless to me unless Nokia accomplishes the stunning act of supporting their software. I won't hold my breath. Just in general, you'd think that plug-and-play of a phone into your computer would be a lot simpler. Just take the cord -- stick it in the phone; stick it in the computer -- and shazam, you're plugged in. But NOOOOOO we're on NOOOOOOKIA ... Now I know why Microsoft wanted to buy them so badly. They knew they'd all get along and have the same assumptions about software -- that it doesn't really matter whether it works reliably on a user's computer at his home, as long as it works in theory on some programmer's ideal personal computer in Seattle once in a rare while. Nokia? Meet Microsoft. Microsoft? You and Nokia will get along juuuust fiiiine ...

The contacts on the phone can be seen in Ovi, but get the error code 8393f011 when trying to synchronise them.
Although with the messages it works ok.
I use Win 7, so PC Suite 4.88 is not an alternative.
There is maybe a setting in the phone avaible to change or what would solve the above issue? Please help!

  • Ovi Suite Calender And Tasks / Notes Sync Problem

I am using a N79. I have downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite to my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit operating system. But now I am having a problem with sync. Calender and tasks , notes can not be synced with Ovi Suite. A notification window opens saying that reconnect and connect again USB or bluetooth. When I do this, nothing happens and sync again fails. I uninstalled Ovi Suite and installed Nokia PC Suite. No problem is seen with sync. Before my Windows 7, I was using Vista but there was no problem with Ovi Suite sync. By the way there is no problem with contacts, photos, bookmarks, music sync with Ovi Suite.
What may be the problem? How can I solve the problem.....????
    THANKS!!!!!!!

Yes I've checked the link too. But I still can't sync the notes (and only the notes) from my Nokia E65.
OVI Suite will happily copy all other content at start up but failes when it starts to copy the notes each time giving the "Reconnect USB...." message with error number 83860005 (if that means anything to anyone).
After many attempts yesterday I copied the notes to my Outlook, but again I now get the same mesage and it won't update! The only thing that I can think of is that some of my notes are pretty long and that there maybe a limit to the number of characters copied befor the process terminates???
