Ovi Suite and photo management troubles

Hello there,
I've recently installed the Ovi suite to transfer my holiday photos to my mobile phone.
However upon first launch it started to search my pictures folder for photos and  automatically added them to the ovi library. so after a little research i've found out that it should be save to "delete" the photos from be ovi library.
and here are my actual questions:
1. why does it add photos without asking the user?
2. why does deleting or adding photos take ages? (about 20min for 19GB on a decent laptop)
2a) does it store a copy of the files somewhere?
2b) why do the two related processes take up 50% of cpu usage for adding or deleting files?
3) why doesn it it sync the photos from the pc to the mobile when i hit the "sync photos" button?
4) how can i transfer albums that have been created in ovi suit to my mobile, in a way that the album is browsable as such on my phone?
i hope someone can enlighten me,
kupetzky

Hey,
This may not b d complete reply u r looking for, n this is what i knw frm this forum
1) Open Nokia Ovi Suite > Tools > Options > Photos > Photos folder location - This can be changed as per ur wished location
2a)  It is stored in ur pc(it wud b gud, if u can share ur pc details so that ppl will inform, where ur database file for ovi is getting stored)
2b) what r d 2 process u r talking here? (is it NokiaMServer n NokiaAserver or NokiaOviSuite.exe if yes, there r already few discussions happened related to these processes need while running Nokia ovi Suite)
3) i m bit confused on ur query, AFAIK, photos sync in Nokia Ovi Suite is one way - i.e. ur phone's photo can b synched from phone to ur pc thru Nokia Ovi Suite and not vice versa, u can't sync ur pc's photo to ur phone thru Nokia Ovi Suite via SYNC, but there r ways like drag n drop, Windows Xplorer kind of, u can read in related posts of this Nokia ovi suite
2a & 4) i dont hav any suggestions currently as i hav nt tried these
Hopefully rest of forum members will share their views too, as i did....

  • Apparent problem with Ovi Suite and Win 7 64 bit

    Hi
Apologies if this has already been covered, but i have searched quite thoroughly and i haven't come across the specific problem i'm querying.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, with PC Suite 7.1.51.0, which runs just fine.
I intend to upgrade to the superb N8 when my contract comes to an end in 6 months, so i'm just doing my homework.
Apparently, the N8 will only run on Ovi Suite, NOT PC Suite.
Now if anyone disputes this and can convince me that the N8 works perfectly fine with PC Suite, then read no further, please just respond!  (Bear in mind the OS i'm running though).
As nice as Ovi Suite is, i've managed just fine so far with PC Suite.
Otherwise, please let me explain the problem i am having:
I installed Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23.  When i run it, it shows the main screen, and you can just make out a small window appearing in the middle saying "Nokia OVI".
It is then that the program stops responding, eventually displaying the error message which reads:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\...
This appication has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the appication's support team for more information.
Judging by the similar stories of Ovi crashing (not finding one where the program fails to open, though), i think it is related to the fact that i'm running Win 7 64 bit; but i could be wrong.
I have tried installing it in compatibility mode, then (failing that), running it in compatibility mode, all to no avail.
Is this a problem that Nokia know about?  If there is an intended fix within 6 months, then that'll be fine.
Otherwise, do any of you clever people know any work-arounds?
Any further questions you need to ask, please don't hesitate.
    Many thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Pinpointing the problem may be very difficult as Ovi-Suite appears to be extremely unpredictable.and getting Ovi-suit tu run an sync properly seems to be largely a matter of luck.
I have just set-up three brand new identical HP workstations for our Geo-Information Department.
All were set up from the same disk image with only Win 7 Pro Office 2010, then directly Ovi-Suite as our Geo-Information guys insisted on Nokia handsets against our advice.
On one, machine Ovi-Suite crashed on launch and was unable to run at all.
on the second, Sync to OL 2010 failed consistently.
ont the third, everything ran fine with an N97 but an N8 was not recognized
So i got curious and run tests on one machine: I installed the same disk image a total of six times (clean win7-64, clean Office 2010 3 times, Office 2003 three times)
    Office 2010
the first time i had the crash on launch, second time OL2010 sync fail, third time it ran ok.
    Office 2003
First time notes sync failed, second and third time all was ok.
So the issue is definitely with Ovi-Suite and it appears to be pure luck whether is runs or not and if it runs at all, whether it syncs or not.
Syncing OL 2010 seems to be much trouble prone than OL2003, 64bit appears to be much less stable than 32, onb win 7 it seems to have slightly fewer issues than on XP.
We have NO issues with any other sync software (Palm, BB, Fruit, S-E, Microsoft, even Nokia PC-Suite).
None of the software is run with admin privileges (as we just do not give admin rights to users). If software requires admin rights to be installed, it is done by Data Center employees.
I'm afraid one's best bet to get Ovi-Suite running is trial and error, or if  the handset supports it, use PC-Suite, which is what we do.
Ovi-suite users, according to our logs, generate over 70% of our smart phone related support calls, even though they are only 6% of our smart phone user base.
As a result, we currently have all Nokia handsets that do not work with PC-Suite and require Ovi-Suite blacklisted in our organization, meaning we won't support them in any way. Installation of any flavor of Ovi-Suite is prohibited on user PCs as long as it does not become more stable, reliable and less of a resource hog.
Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said

  • Ovi Suite and Map Server connection error when beh...

    Hi All,
from many recent versions up to the latest 3.1.1.80 I have problems to connect to the map server when behind a proxy. Ovi Suite correctly access to internet and log on (I've set-up proxy access data in the options menu) but when I access to the Maps tab I receive the massage "MAp Server not available".
Now I've understood the reason and for nokia guys it should be very easy to fix the problem:
if my proxy username is in the format "name surname" Ovi Suite access to internet but Maps DOES NOT.
if my proxy username is in the format "username" (without spaces) BOTH ovi suite and Maps WORKS correctly.
Please FIX it, it should be very easy.
    Thanks,
    AleC

Hello, 1. Were you able to use the usb connection if present? And also, make sure you have the correct drivers, if present, installed (use a device manager to check). 2. Most probably, your printer was not properly connected to the network. You need to check IP configuration. If a wireless router is used, make sure there is no MAC filtering enabled. If enabled, you need to reconfigure. 3. DHCP Service. 4. Check the network test page and make sure ssid is correctly identified. And the rest of the wireless parameters. 5. Make sure your firewall does not blobk printer connections. Make sure file and print sharing has been turned on for the appropriate network with network discovery turned on(Network and Sharing Center if Windows). Network connection should be work not public (Windows only). More assistance: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=... Thank you!

  • Ovi Suite modifying photos

    Hi,
Is Ovi suite meant to modify every photo on my computer?
I installed it today and found that my computer was running really slow. After a couple of hours of this I realised that it was scanning every photo under My Pictures (about 50GB of them). I don't really want to sync these with my phone, so I gather there's no point in having Ovi suite scan them. I went through the menu (Tools->Options->Photos) and changed the photos folders location to stop this (it required a few restarts, but it stopped scanning).
All the photos it had already scanned were sill in the photos tab of Ovi suite so I deleted them. I then tried to delete them from the "Deleted photos" section (without deleting them from the hard drive) but this again started thrashing my hard drive and was taking a very long time.
I went to look at my photos and noticed the the modified time on a lot had changed (I sometimes use the last modified time to order my photos). What has been modifying my photos!!
I compared one of the photos with a backup and they look the same but there are differences in the actual file data.
    Here is an example
    Original image: http://www.alintech.com.au/IMG_1337-orig.jpg
    OviSuite modified: http://www.alintech.com.au/IMG_1337.jpg
Why is Ovi Suite modifying all my photos?

Nokia's official response is to use PC suite.
    Hi Wilson,
Thank you for contacting Nokia Careline. If you are using the Ovi Suite and encountering a problem in transferring photos, I would suggest that you use the Nokia PC Suite instead. You may download the Nokia PC Suite in the link provided below and follow the instructions given.

  • N97 Firmware updates but Ovi suite and SW update t...

I have updated my firmware to the version 11 twice now. Once using the Ovi suite and once using th PC Suite Software  updater. When I go to the SW update app in my N97 it still says "Phone Software - Important" but the details just say it's the same firmware update I've already gotten. I'm thinking this may hinder my ability to get the new NGAGE, Maps, etc. updates. How do i fix this?
    Thanks for the help!!

try this *#7780# default code is 12345 you will not lose any data, you will have to reset your settings possibly. and then turn the phone off for few minutes. turn in back on , go to the software update in the application folder and refresh the avaliable updates by going to options on the left hand side. see if this will help any
oh and btw you have updated your phone you can check this by *#0000# pluging this in if it is v11 you are good to go

    Hello All,
I'm following this thread and would like to know the following: How do you delete the Synch profile on the phone? I have the 5800 and it presents two ovi.com profiles for synching. The first one does not work, but the second ovi.com profile does. I would like to eliminate the non functioning profile.

  • C7 OVI Suite and Windows 7 Home 64bit - no way to ...

Hello everybody, I've just bought my C7 smartphone and I'm trying to synchronize my Outlook contacts.
I've installed Ovi Suite and tried to connect C7 via USB and bluetooth. It seems it doesn't recognize the connection properly. in fact, Ovi Suite shows the message: "the device is not in USB PC Suite mode. try to disconnect and reconnect the device". Checking my C7, it automatically selects the Nokia Ovi Suite connection (so, it should work properly!).
    Some tips:
    - the Ovi Suite window shows the generic "Nokia Device", it seems it doesn't recognize C7.
    - I tried also with Microsoft XP 32bit and everything works fine.
It seems to me maybe there's a problem with Windows7 Home - 64bit?
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks

    Could you please try this?
    1. Unplug the phone from your computer.
    2. Uninstall all Nokia related applications. These applications include Nokia OVI / PC Suite, Nokia Cable Drivers, and PC Connectivity solution.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. This step is necessary only in a few cases. If you do not have one already, install a registry cleaning application. My recommendation is CCleaner along with Registry Mechanic. Clean your registry using these applications.
    5. Restart your computer.
    6. Install Nokia OVI Suite or PC Suite, whichever is your preference. Make sure that you have the latest setup file.
    7. Download the Nokia Cable Drivers setup files from your region’s official Nokia website.
    8. Install the Nokia Cable Drivers setup file.
    9. Restart your computer.
    10. Plug in your phone and wait while its drivers are installed by Windows.
    11. Restart your computer.
    12. Run Nokia OVI / PC Suite. Your phone will now be detected by the application.
Hopefully it will help you to solve your problem

  • OVI suite and Sync

i have noticed that there are issues with the sync capabilities on the OVI suite and it actually completely destroyed my database of contacts!
i had to go back to my main pc and do a complete wipe on all of the contacts with PC Suite instead.
it seems that the mapping still has issues, specifically, for USA, the zip code is mapped to go before the city, rather then after the state!  had to go through all of my contacts on outlook and manually fix each contact so that when i needed to print mail labels, etc, that it would print correctly.
after you clean it up, the sync is fine, unless you sync between multiple laptops/pc's.  then the OVI suite mixes up all the info and deleted some contacts, and changed some info within the contacts...for instance, if there were 2 different email address/phone numbers/etc. then suddenly, i had both of the email addresses the same!
anyone else had these challenges?  is there a fix?

Noticed on a few other topics extra information has been requested. I hope the majority is in my first post but here is the extra.

  • Ovi Suite and iTunes conflict ?

    Dear All.
For my N97 Mini,    I use under Windows 7 the Ovi Suite 2.2.0.245.  It works fine and it synchronize the music present in the folder "My music" ...
The problem is that iTunes does not even run when Ovi Suite runs ...
I try to explain better.     If I UNinstall completely iTunes (and ALL Apple SW present on my laptop) then when I re-install it, immediately it works fine (I can see my complete set of songs, I can buy new ones, etc ...).
When after I run the Ovi Suite, this reads from the iTunes folder in "My Music" all the old and new songs, and it (re)synchronize with my N97 Mini ... perfect ! (I can listen the songs on my N97 Mini!)  but when I run again iTunes a small windows appears which says "The handle is invalid", and iTunes never starts ... so I have to uninstall/re-install  it (and ALL Apple SW !!!) again ...
Any suggestion to solve this problem ?
    Many thanks,
    ML

    Hi Mlena,
Even i have both Ovi Suite and itunes installed in my Windows 7 desktop. I am able to run both the softwares simultaneoulsly.
Looks like the issue is specific to your PC. You could try uninstalling both itunes and Ovi Suite and install one by one both again.
For OVi Suite you need to follow the below steps.
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Also a screen-shot of the error will help
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.
    http://www.ovi.com/suite
After OVi suite installation , restart the PC then install the itunes.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
If still issue persists, Please provide your Mobile details (*#0000#) and your PC details.
Go to OVI suite -> help -> About nokia OVI suite -> System information. Paste the information...

  • Ovi suite and N8 won't sync.

Hi everyone! I have my N8 working perfectly and i have successfully installed ovi suite 3.O.O.290.
When I connected my N8 o the PC it's been detected and the drivers installed! Ovi suite then asks to follow some steps... and then in the low end of the window i have an N8 logo saying CONNEXION! Here is my problem! It will saty stuck at this particular step and won't connect or go any further! I have been able to perform the phone update from ovi suite but i can't sync contacts photos or anything. Phone's content won't appear! THX

    Hi latsauteh ,
I am not sure whether this will solve your problrm but you could try this once.
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC/Ovi suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
if it does not help you can try with NOS3.1 beta

  • C6 - Windows 7, Ovi Suite and connection via Bluet...

    Hello
I have a problem with connection my Nokia C6 with computer (system Windows 7) via Bluetooth.
Ovi found the device, move on to the next step. Displays the message "Your computer may be required to install the Bluetooth modem", then a long, long time nothing. And then an error "Can not connect to the device. " What could be wrong?

I have the same trouble with my E71 and Lenovo TP w510 (Windows-7-64).
I've made clean install recently (disc crash) and I have now everything up2date - system, drivers, BT (Microsoft stack) and latest OVI suite. But I can't connect with BT (same messages and then error). However, I can browse my phone directly (windows BT connect) easilly.
Before disc crash I've had Office 2007 and OVi Suite 2.xx together with PC Suite (ver. 7) and everything worked ok. Now with clean install of all latest system, drivers and sw it doesnt work. This is what make me furious with Nokia and their SW - it is worthless. By my opinion the step from PC Suite to OVI Suite is is like step from ugly good horse to fancy dressed **bleep**. You have no control of syncing things not even a proper logs etc. This is simple stupid. And OVI messed thing many times. For example - lately it write me some events (serise) all over many days in my caledar. And gues what - it looks it is immpossible to clean whole calendar with one simple move on the phone.
I am seriously looking for a new phone and it looks like this is my last Nokia.

    Troubleshooting so far:
    ===============================================================
Uninstall Ovi and re-download from Nokia web. Reinstalled Ovi Suite but that didn't work.
I then uninstalled all Ovi and all Nokia related software, cleaned Registry and reinstall Ovi Suite: Failed to fix.
Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize.
    ===============================================================
    How to solve this problem?

    LOL
I just tried Nokia Ovi Suite again to copy the full error report that it sends to Microsoft.... lo and behold it started to work again?????

Made a complete backup on my phone.
Installed Nokia Software Updater and I reinstall the latest FW 51.0.006 to my phone.
Then I organized my content for a few minutes.
Shut down Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater.
    Started up Nokia Ovi Suite.
Connected my phone and clicked on PC-Suite on the options.
    It now works again????
Something happened when I installed PC Suite that enabled me to use my Nokia 5800 with Ovi Suite again.

  • Nokia OVI Suite and Nokia Care Support

Today I called Nokia Support, because I could not download maps with map loader.
The guy asked if the ovi suite is installed. I told him, that the Ovi suite keeps on crashing on start-up on my machine, and that all other software is running fine, e.g. the PC suite which I am using instead.
For a price of 14 Cent/Minutes this "Nokia-Care"-guy had the nuts telling me that probably my computer needs to be fixed. After telling him that my computer works fine with all other software, he finally told me that I need to call Microsoft, as it would be their fault that Ovi Suite is not running on my machine.
This is a poor joke called "Nokia-Care". Dear Nokia-people, that is no-support and no-care-at-all. Providing something that crashes for free, and charging money for providing rudeness on the phone.

  • Ovi suite and nokia c5-03

I have tried continually today to get my phone to be recognised by ovi suite.
It see's the phone model when adding a new device, but when i click on the phone, it comes up with the phone is not in ovi suite mode????
What the heck, its the only mode available apart from mass storage etc.
It IS in ovi suite mode, I have done this several times, unplugged the phone from the USB cable and replugged it in. restarted ovi suite. restarted the computer, all to no avail.
Cannot even use pc suite, which is the program i actually prefer to use. PC suite recognises i have the c5 connected but wont allow me to do anything either
Please please help i need to back up and put stuff on the phone that i had saved from my old phone (old phone lost somewhere on the motorway so cannot sync that way)

    Hi,
Can you try the suggestions below?
-Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel (called Programs
and Features in Microsoft Windows 7).
Select Nokia Ovi Suite in the list of applications and click
    Change/Remove.
In the dialog that appears, choose Repair.
    - Click Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and repair
-Try creating the connection between your phone and computer
totally from scratch. Start by disconnecting your phone. In
Nokia Ovi Suite, select Tools > Options > My devices. Select
your phone at the top of the window and click Remove this
    device.
Then, select Tools > Add new device, and follow the
    instructions to reconnect the phone.
If this doesn't solve the problem,
-Uninstall the following programs withAdd/Remove Programs in
Control Panel (called Programs and Features in Microsoft
    Windows 7):
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Then, download and install the latest version of Nokia Ovi
    I hope this helps.
