Ovi Suite annoying alerts and pop-ups

The features of the Ovi Suite are OK. User interfaces also are nice. But what's with these alerts and application pop-ups??? Why do I need to get alert "No internet connection" if I'm even not using the application? Why the application pops up when doing something in background (sync I suppose)? Additionally because of the huge memory usage I always switch the application off and on when required.
As I've already told I like the application. But these few things spoils the party.

As I use wifi connection on my laptop the internet usually switches from one wifi router to another and I get this OVI "no internet" alert. Sometimes when I'm away and come back I have 5-10 alert pop-ups.
Maybe you would make a tick box in the options menu to diable this message. OR let the alert popup dissapear when the internet is back?
Now I simply kill the ovi aplication when not needed.
Using Windows 7, with N81. Ovi is 2.0.2.42.
What happened to old good Nokia PC Suite?

  • Why am I constantly being re-linked to ads and pop ups

I have only had my Macbook Pro a week, and I cannot go onto safari without constantly being re-directed to advertising pages and pop ups appearing on sites that would never have them. I have compared all my settings to my girlfriends Macbook Pro with no differences that we can see. Even when I checked the T's and C's box to agree to the apple support community it opened up 2 other tabs to advertisement websites. Can anyone help me out as I am new to mac and its really annoying me after only having it for one week. I have downloaded adobe flash player and Utorrent but did not download any torrents as of yet. I have tried ClamXav and the scans come back with no results.
Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

  • Querying/setting "Print notes and pop-ups" application preference

    Hi
I'd like to be able to alert the user if a particular setting is disabled within a plugin application I've written for Acrobat 9 Pro. The particular preference in question is the "Print notes and pop-ups" setting in the Comments preferences page.
I've tried querying the value using AVAppGetPreference(avpPrintAnnots), but it seems that the particular constant I pass doesn't refer to what I assumed it does. Is there another I should be using instead? I'd have tried using the AVAppGetPrefBool or similar function, except it requires a key parameter containing a value that doesn't appear to be documented anywhere.
Failing to access the preference store via the API, I eventually found that the value for the setting I'm after is stored in the windows registry at HKLM\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\Annots\cPrefs\bprintCommentPopups, however setting this value in a AVAppDidInitialize callback function is already too late the application to read the new value I've set, and I couldn't find a more suitable callback; not that I was able to find a complete list of these in any of the documentation.
    Regards, Andrew

Please forgive me for pushing the matter, but given the absence of documentation on this matter, I really have no other option.
Inserting #define avpPrintCommentPopups (Str("printCommentPopups")) into my source file didn't work either, the Str macro is also undefined. Besides this point, why exactly should the define have worked? The AVAppGetPreference function/macro takes an enum value as an argument, not a string.
If you are able to supply me with the relevant section and key names for the AVAppGetPrefBool function I would be happy to use this function instead.

You've been infected by a scam trojan.  You don't need any anti-virus software on your Mac.  See the following about getting rid of the trojan.
    Trojan War
If you discover a trojan program is running on your computer then look to the following information for assistance:
    1. A recent discussion on the Apple Support Communities: MacDefender Trojan.

Removing strange software can be a task.  The following outlines various ways of uninstalling software:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a Startup item or a Log In item.  Startup items are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the Delete [-] button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Note that you must have this software installed before you install software you may need to uninstall.  Uninstallers won't work if you install them after the fact.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them and others at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on removing software and dealing with spyware and malware.
After removing all the components of the software you may have to restart the computer to fully disable the software.  This will be the case when removing software that has installed a daemon.  After the daemon has been removed you need to restart the computer to stop the daemon.  Alternatively, you can kill the daemon process using the Terminal application or Activity Monitor.

  • Blocking ads and pop ups

Have the newer version of the WSA give us the option not to display an message when an ad or pop up is blocked?
I have asked about this before and I thought that is was in the blueprints for a future release I just wanted to see if is has been done.
I get a lot of complaints that websites are being blocked and really its just ads and pop ups.Other url filters that I have used in the past for ads and pop ups dont display this ad or pop up has been blocked message.
    Thanks

Just FYI ... we currently acheive this by using a custom (redirected from ironport) block page for all of our block messages. We then design this .asp block page to display differently depending on what fields are passed to it in the URL. If the category=Advertisements, then the block page appears as a simple white page with the text "This advertisement has been intentionally blocked ... "
This also allows us to design custom 504, 503 pages etc, as well as different block pages depending on the user's IP address range.
Can you share with us how you did this, I am new to the IronPort and have some .asp experience. I would like to know how to blank out the ad pages and have a message come up for the other blocked pages. Thanks!

  • How do i get ads and pop ups off my computer?

    Mac Book Pro
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Version 10.0.1
How do I get ads and pop ups off my computer?

Your question is one that tends to bring out the worst of all the bad advice that infests this site. There is, in fact, no need to download anything to solve the problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Can ads and pop ups be shut off on I pad on downloaded games?

Can ads and pop ups be shut off on game apps?

Chris is saying it but without saying it ....
Yes you can turn them off. Buy the full version of the game. As long as you use the free versions there is no way to turn off the ads. That's how the developer generates revenue for his or work - if you don't want to buy the paid version of the game he has to get paid somehow.

  • Ovi Suite 2.0 and Maps

I've recently downloaded and installed Ovi Suite 2.0 and I am mostrly satisfied with its functionalities. I have some questions though regarding navigation maps handling (I have a Nokia 6710 Navigator phone):
    - it seems like there is no way of knowing which version of maps are installed in the phone and which version are available for download: this is no good, since I can't tell if I need to update the maps in my phone
    - the same apply to downloadable voices
    - why I can only delete ALL the maps in my phone (using Ovi Suite) and not just a selection of them?
    - what happens if I don't delete the maps in my phone and I download a map which already exists in the phone?
Thanks in advance to whom might answer to the above.

I have the same questions, hope someone add info to this.
One more question is how to know which maps are in the phone. Recently I did the download of Hungary map, went to that (really nice!) country on vacation and to find out that my Nokia, the first time I used the maps, did the download from internet in roaming. That took long and was costly.

  • Ovi Suite Syncing Messages and Contacts

I have Ovi Suite installed on my desktop and laptop and both computers are not syncing contacts and messages, just keeps saying syncing messages do not disconnect, I've turned off the phone and back on again and sometimes that fixes the problem, turned off and on bluetooth and sometimes would fix the problem also but now whatever I do does not work. Also tried connecting via USB cable. I have also tried repairing, deleting the device on the phone and even gone back to Nokia PC Suite 7 and still nothing, can someone help me out here please?
    Thanks

Well for anyones information. Syncing with ovi suite.
I have successfully got ovi suite working.
For those with problems this is what I did. I have vista.
    1. I uninstalled all programs from nokia.( ovi suite using the online uninstaller. Pc suite using the installed uninstall program.
then i ran pc suite cleaner.
    2. using search for nokia then using advanced search for all nokia folders remaining (important to use advanced search or you will miss some of the folders and files. Then deleted them. Some you may have to change the user permissions to delete them. It is important to delete these as they hold data and i think might be one of the conflicts stopping sync working.
    3. Delete any remaining files except bookmarks pics etc.
now there should be nothing on the pc.
Then download and run ccleaner. Cleaner and registry.
    Reboot pc
    Then download ovi suite.
A wizard might pop up but if not start ovi suite and connect your phone. I turned bluetooth off and used usb.
The phone will download settings. You can select pc suite on the sync settings in the phone. not ovi.com.
the program is good and worth the trouble. It saves your messages and contacts as well as syncing contacts and calendar with your required program, also bookmarks can be saved with firefox and explorer in your phone folder in favourites. It creates the folder. To transfer bookmarks from pc to phone ensure they are in this folder.
This took me a lot of reboots and time with a few calls to nokia and i am still waiting for their callback!!!
It also works fine on my xp computer too.

  • Images and Pop-Ups Will Not Open in IE???

I have several .html pages being displayed within an i-Frame.
There are thumbnail images on .html pages that are being displayed
within the i-frames, and these thumbnails are not displaying in IE,
even though they do display in Firefox. The thumbails are linked
through JavaScript code (written by Dreamweaver 8) to open up .html

not and all use the same code), though the links to the pop-ups are
    not working.
Everything works fine in FireFox, this is only a problem in
IE. I am using version 7 of IE.
Does anyone have ANY ideas why this may not be working????
    Thanks for any assistance!!!!

IE7 has popup blocking turned on by default. You may need to

  • General protection fault with alt-tabbing and pop ups

    Hi,
This is probably a case of me doing something I shouldn't, but I figured out a while ago that I could get resizable modal pop ups by doing something like this:
    SetPanelAttribute(panelHandle2, ATTR_SIZABLE, 0);
    InstallPopup(panelHandle2);
    SetPanelAttribute(panelHandle2, ATTR_SIZABLE, 1);
This is almost certainly a hack, but it seems to work and I get modal pop ups that the user can resize and maximize.  However, the run-time engine does not seem to like this, and I am getting general protection faults when alt-tabbing between the main application window and the pop up (which both have taskbar buttons).  The address where it crashes, at least on my computer, is 0x684F5E34 which is in cvirte.dll.  This also seems to crash in the release configuation.
I've attached a small sample application.  In order to see the problem, launch the application, open the Pop Up, and alt-tab a few times between the two windows.  On my development PC this will generate a general protection fault after a few times (often the first time).  I'm running CVI 2012SP1 on a Windows XP Pro PC.
Any insight would be helpful.  Thanks.

What I don't understand is how you can switch between main and popup panel since the latter is displayed with InstallPopup: I never succeed in getting focus to the main panel when the popup is active, and it is not even listed among windows in alt-tab procedure. If I select the main window in taskbar, the popup immediately comes up and gets the focus.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
