Ovi Suite compact view.

The Nokia Ovi Suite, is a great improvement over PC Suite in terms of functionality, but a absolutely hate the user interface, so much so that I don't use it, but as I said before it is a much better program then PC Suite. The problem you have no privacy, and if you have someone near the computer you just can't use it, because it is showing your SMS's, pictures on your Phone and Computer, Contacts, etc, on the home screen. A compact view similar to that of the PC Suite (as an option) would be a great upgrade to an good application.

  • 5230 ovi suite cannot find maps on device

new nokia 5230 and have been trying to upload maps to phone for hours, £30 credit wasted for internet connection and ovi suite keep saying cannot find maps or voice guidance files in your device. Did deleting cities folder and qf file still the same; tried to use pc suite as someone suggested but the link tells me to use ovi suite as well. No map at all in phone Please any suggestions???

    Hi Mkws,
To find the installed Maps and Navigation.
Connect your device to the Pc/Laptop
Open your OVi Suite, Goto --> View -> Go to -> Maps. On the left handside bottom you can find On your device, Below that select All. It will take a while to read your phone data. It will show you the Maps and the Voice Navigation installed in your device.
Please delete all your maps which ever already installed in your device by clicking on Delete All on your right hand side top.
Now you can download and install the maps and voice navigations once again one by one.
Before this if you find any update for your maps software please go ahead and do it, prior to downloading Maps.
Hope This will resolve the issue.

  • Ovi Suite 2.0 no photo view in grid mode

Hi I have the latest Ovi Suit and I am connecting my 5800 music express. Once the photoes are synched with my computer only a small version of the actual images is imported  (3KB per image). I am sure that the version on the phone is about 550KB in size. Also when I come to view the images in view thumbnails no preview is avalable of the images. The low res picture comes visible only in vew single photo mode.
Is this a software bug or do I have some wrong settings ?
    Regards
    Rodrick Borg
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sorry for this mess. There was a bug in the photo import from some devices that has now been fixed but the damage done by those faulty imports does not correct itself in the database.
The safest way to re-import the photos is to do it manually, that way you will know what has changed.
Open Ovi Suite and connect your device (preferably with USB, BT also works but it will take longer).
Go to the photos view and check from the device view (select from lower left pane titled "Photos in <device name>" the "All" folder) that your images are visible there.
For each image you want to restore, go to the PC view (select from upper left pane titled "Photos" the "All" folder) and find the corresponding image on the PC. If you can't see thumbnails for the images on the PC then you will have to find the correct thumbnail by checking the filenames that appear on mouse roll-over or by left-clicking and selecting "Properties".
Delete the image from the PC view (press DEL key, left-click and selecte "Delete" or drag and drop to the "Deleted photos" folder). Note that this doesn't actually delete anything, it just prevents the image being shown in Ovi Suite.
Select the "Deleted photos" folder from the upper left pane
Select the image you just deleted and delete it again. Be sure to choose "Yes" when asked if you want to delete the file from the computer.
Now you can manually import the image from the phone.
Select the photo from the device view (from lower left pane titled "Photos in <device name>", "All" folder)
Drag and drop the image on the "All" folder of the PC navigation pane (upper left pane)
You should see a progress bar for the import and the thumbnail and correct image should then be available in the PC.
Once you get the idea of what to do you can also use multi-select (Ctrl-click) to delete and re-import serveral images at a time.
    Hope this helps.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
As with all things of this nature, no software vendor can forever remain compatible with every historical PC platform...XPSP2 has indeed been dropped from compatibility with the current version of the RIM Desktop Software. Your choices are:
Update to XPSP3 (which, if I recall correctly, is completely free)
Fall back to a version of the Desktop Software that is compatible with XPSP2...you can find older versions here:
    http://www.blackberryos.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=110
Sorry, but I no longer recall exactly which versions support which XP levels...you will have to do some experimenting I suspect.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Outlook calendar view in Nokia Ovi Suite

I just recently upgraded my Nokia PC Suite to Nokia Ovi Suite.
To my disappointment Calendar sync seems to be "gone" with no option to see the current calendar like it was on the Pc Suite.
Also no option to enter the calendar through to Ovi Suite and make changes on the computer.
Thus finding out later that sync was not good because of GMT and light savings.
Is Nokia working on a fix for the gmt and light savings problem?
And why isn't there a tab for Calendar like there is for Contacts Messages....?
    thank you
    Noa

from a mail I got from nokia today seems they are discontinuing calendar view in ovi suite so we will not be able to see calendar in the web based ovi. maybe on desktop ovi but who knows
wonder why they are doing this seems many many folks will be PO'ed

  • Ovi Suite annoyance

    Hi All,
I realise this isn't the biggest problem in the world, but it's really bugging me. Basically I use Bluetooth to connect my phone to my laptop and my phone is normally in my pocket. So when I walk away the connection is dropped and when I come back it reconnects. All good. The thing that's bugging me is that when it reconnects Ovi Suite pops open ie I have it closed (minimised to tray, not open on screen or on the taskbar) then the window appears when it reconnects. Is there any way to stop it doing this? PC Suite didn't do this. If I want it open, I'll do it myself...
Another thing that bugs me is the text messaging. I quite like the "chat" style view of the messages, but as each message only takes up just over half the width, it makes bad use of the space. Why can't they take up the full width? The formatting makes it clear who they're from. Or you could at least take it to 90-95% of the width. Some way to make the whole text messaging window more compact would be better as well.
Essentially I have Ovi Suite open all the time and I want it to be a little less in my face and not be forced to have it take up so much screen real estate. I have a lot of applications open and don't see the need for Ovi to pretty much fill one of my monitors.
I should also say though that I actually quite like Ovi Suite and am making these comments in the hope that it'll help improve the product. There are many different types of user and we don't all want the same thing...
If anyone has ideas that can help with these things, or if these comments could be passed to the developers, I'd be grateful.
    Thanks
    Stephen

  • How do you export messages from Ovi Suite?

As the title says, how do you export messages from Ovi Suite?
I know how to export messages from Nokia PC Suite, but it doesn't seem to be possible in the new Nokia Ovi Suite.
Here is how I would do it in the Nokia PC Suite.
    1. I click the Messages icon to open Nokia Communication Center.
    2. I click on the Messages option on the left pane to view only messages.
    3. In the main window I mark the messages I want to export.
    4. Then I go to File menu and chose Export.
    5. Choose destination folder and I'm all set to export my messages from my Nokia.
I can chose between the formats CSV and VMG (vMessage) for export. If more than one message is marked only the CSV format is available. But what you can do to export several messages in the VMG format is to mark them all in the main window and press CTRL+C or right click and chose Copy to copy them all to RAM memory. Then all you have to do is create an empty folder on the desktop and paste them in there by pressing CTRL+V or right clicking and chosing Paste.
That's all there is to it, using Nokia PC Suite. So how do you do this in Nokia Ovi Suite? You don't, right?
And this **bleep** Ovi Suite is supposed to replace PC Suite?
Thank God I won't be needing neither of them much longer. I am switching to Android and HTC. Good luck with Ovi, the Ovi Player, the Ovi Suite, the PC Suite, the Symbian, the S60, the Symbian^1 (S60 5th edition), the Symbian^3, the Symbian^4 and what not.

I believe OVI took a step in the right direction with this option. I also believe it was made available due to the fact that OVI Suite cannot take a huge number of messages altogether. This option was made available so that the messages could be backed up.
However, I'd like to suggest the following, if possible.
    1. Make Nokia OVI Suite be able to handle a huge number of messages.
    2. Have the option to export only selected messages.

  • Syncing issues, Ovi Suite on Windows 7: Some sugge...

Hi. I was complaining on my twitter about Ovi's last release and someone asked me to report about my experiences here. For most of the issues I did a workaround by myself but I think that I'll not be the only one reporting them and experiencing the same problems, so I'd like to show my thoughts as a suggestion for the next releases.
When I started Ovi Suite after the installation to explore the changes, I had a massive system slowdown and I'm running a Core 2 Quad! Then I realized that Ovi was indexing ALL of my PC musics and photos, including subfolders.
Ok, that's what the software was designed for, the problem is that I have over 30GB of images on my Pictures folder and 22GB on Music. I never checked to immediate syncing when my device is connected neither search my local library, but I just clicked on Music tab and my PC went to a extreme slowdown, NokiaMServer.exe on top CPU usage and crashed. It got worse when I connected my Nokia: It forced to sync the entire 22GB Music files on a 8GB SD! Someone missed a condition there to check if the device has enough space!
I'm not discussing how I sync my music files but I download a lot of 320kb bitrate songs which each one has 11~25MB so as my headphones won't play a louder sound than any 96KB AAC, I convert all that I want to hear on my device and just drag and drop with all of metatags including album covers, works for me. From now I'll put all of my converted files on a specific folder, sync with Ovi and keep everything organized BUT why the hell isn't there a screen asking me to select the default folders for syncing on the first run?
...And the same thing happened to my pictures, just a little bit worse. My system was crashing, Windows Explorer crashed, NokiaMServer went to 25% CPU usage on Task Manager because of thumbnail processing! Really, why the hell would I like to put my entire Pictures folder on my cellphone, especially huge files?
To stop Music indexing, I just selected all songs and deleted them from the Ovi's database/collection without messing with my iTunes library (though some metatags and album covers were corrupted) but for the pictures, deleting 35MB from catalog on my own computer lasted longer than using Bluetooth or the old Nokia Phone Browser to send a 100MB file!
Removing the folders from "folder-watch" or changing the library addresses over the Options should clean Ovi's library/collection but it didn't worked, Ovi kept adding pictures and songs. The only way to stop the ridiculous thumbnail processing (from pictures which I also moved to another folder just in case) was deleting "\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync", "\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store" and "\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Ovi Suite" and seting Ovi's to sync to another folder.
I know that there's a lot of people that don't put that amount of files on Windows default documents folders but I can't understand why this software is so slow for simple commands that other softwares can do better! Even the old PC Suite with Nokia Phone Browser was faster when copying or moving a file to another folder and now it's not even modifying or sending files, it is only reading and indexing!
So, I think that it's not much to ask to Nokia/Ovi developers:
    1. Let users choose the default folders for syncing BEFORE start syncing.
    2. Faster indexing and exclusion for Ovi's library. Don't waste time processing a half-screen-sized thumbnail, just show a 128x128 and if the user wants to see the full-sized picture, make Ovi launch system's default picture viewer/editor. After all, your own pictures don't have DRM...
    3. Nokia Music: Can someone explain me how to lock that damn scroll-bar? Because when I'm exploring my songs suddenly the bar goes back to the top! If you want to make a stylish scroll-bar, fine, but please, make it functional as a normal scroll-bar! Otherwise use system's default!
    4. Again about Nokia Music: Something I thought it was nice was letting users choose what application they wanted to use for syncing songs, because some legacy devices don't work with Nokia Music and transferring files from Nokia Music Manager was faster because you didn't had to change you connection type from PC Suite to Media Device. Fortunately for me, iTunes AAC format works fine to reduce disk usage on my devices, but it would nice if Ovi could convert songs for a smaller file size as Music Manager did.
     5. I'm also experiencing some random nokiaaserver.exe crashes without any Nokia application running at the same time.
That's all. I hope someone read it and understand my point of view.

use this version. it has most of the bugs fixed...
keep in mind that if you are using a win 764bit, there are still issues with crashing.

  • OVI Suite 3.0.0.284 Hangs on Windows 7

I recently upgraded OVI 2.2 to 3.0.0.284 and since I have not been able to use OVI Suite.
The upgrade reported no install errors however when I accpted the default and ran the application directly from the Install the application Hung with the window open and all menu options greyed except for view more at OVI store which works opening my default browser "Firefox".
    No other options worked.
I uninstalled the application and several other installed at the same time including the usb cable driver. I cleaned all other file I could find which may have been connected to the install. I then dowloaded a fresh copy of OVI Suite 3.0.0.284 from the nokia web site and performed a fresh install after restarting my computer from scratch, the results were the same.
I contacted Nokia and logged a problem SR# 1-11397280046 but after a few unhelpfull exchanges I was basically told I was an idiot and that my system obviously had problems.
I am running a New Registered version of Windows 7 Home Edition on a Dell laptop with Intel Core i3 processor and 4gb of RAM. I also have installed and working perfectly Office 2010 Professional including Outlook as my mail client and CA Security centre 7. Photoshop 9 and various other commercial software. My system has not had any problems until now.

    Thank you for your feedback.
Could you please provide us more information on this?
    1. OS and Phone details
    2. Log files
Here are the instructions for attaching log files:
    - Open Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.284 or later
    - Enable log gathering by double-clicking the enable_logs.js file in installation folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite
    - Click the button to start enabling the logs when prompted by the dialogue
    - Click the button to confirm the "Logs are enabled" dialogue
    - Exit Nokia Ovi Suite from File - Exit. This is mandatory! Closing NOS to system tray is not enough!
    - Open Nokia Ovi Suite again
    - Try to reproduce the error you are reporting
    - If the error still exists, double click the collect_logs.js file in installation folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite
    - Click the button to start collecting the logs when prompted by the dialogue
    - Click the button to confirm the "Logs collect & zip finished" dialogue
    - Attach the NOS2_logs.zip file in C:\Temp\NOS2 folder and screenshots in the error reporting form
    - Go to your %TEMP% folder, which can be found by entering %TEMP% to the Windows Explorer's address bar. Then search debug_log_date.txt in this folder, where date is the current date (or choose the latest one) and attach also this file in the error reporting form. The exact %TEMP% folder paths are:
    In XP: C:\Documents and settings\your_username\LocalSettings\Temp\
In Vista and Windows 7: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Temp\
    - Disable log gathering by double-clicking the disable_logs.js file in installation folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite
    - Click the button to start disabling the logs when prompted by the dialogue
    - Click the button to confirm the "Logs are disabled" dialogue
    Crash dump:
If you get a crash, please provide us the crash dump:
    In XP:
On application crash, you'll see the dialog asking whether you want to Debug or Close. Don't do either. Closing the dialog destroys the dump file before you have a chance to copy it.
    - Click the "For more information about this error, click here" link in the crash dialog, and copy the "Error signature" contents. The relevant content can be selected with mouse, and copied. Paste the text to the report.
    - Find the minidump file (usually C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Temp\???.dmp). If there are multiple .dmp files, check the modification time the find the one that was created at the same time the application crashed.
    - Start Task Manager and end process "dwwin.exe". The dump file is locked by this process.
    - The dump file can now be copied and attached. If the file is large you can upload the file on any file upload server and send us the link to [email protected].
    In Vista and Windows 7:
    - Expand the "View problem details" in the crash dialog and copy the contents
    - Open Task manager and find NokiaOviSuite.exe from the Processes list
    - Right click over NokiaOviSuite.exe and select Create Dump File.
    - The dump file can now be copied and attached in the detailed error reporting form. If the file is large you can upload the file on any file upload server and send us the link to [email protected]

  • Ovi Suite install problems..

Hey ATN NOKIA CODERS! All I am trying to do is browse my backed up .nbu files but its getting silly, I shoot video clips on latest firmware and boy the camera startup is much faster I voice record wavs on my N95 and I have just tried NOKI a nice free to try app for doing just this, but no thumbnail pics of the videos and cant drag them onto say Media Player Classic or Double click to run the chosen video or wav file soo!
I have just downloaded the longwinded and large install called Ovi Suite, Microsoft Windows Media Center Failed to load error with server timeout.. great start! not! everything else installed except for oh Ovi Suite! so after its done installing Nokia Music and Photo Gallery (which wasnt as painful as installing microsofts Photo Gallery!) I hit the Synch button and crossed my fingers but when it got upto 33 images out of 197 and it died trying to transfer the videos as they showed no Preview thumbnails just blank ones and it crashed haha. in fairness I need to reboot. but I tried to run the Ovi install again to have a go at re-trying the missing errored timed out apps, but it did not show the Windows Media update or the Ovi Guide Install that failed to install, going into C:\windows\programfiles\Nokia folder I am able to sart Nokia Photo Gallery and Music and tried to goto Nokia Music site as i make music and want to submit my own tracks to sell but even that errored with server errors. try again later. will report more later, happy new year!

"mistakes i've made a few... " err above post further down the page I call Ovi Suite "Ovi Guide" sorry easily done with my dislexia and bad spalling.
Ok Ovi Suites "Photo Gallery" is a pile of over inflated nonsense!!146MBs!?? I gave it a fair go and i have maxed out my ram so when I say starting Photo Gallery was slow and very painful it was very slow and very painful. The Green Ovi flash screen did not disapear for about 3 minutes. I have less than 100 pics and about 10 videos so nothing scary to deal with. Dosnt work half as well as Nokia Video Manager in PC Suite 7.1 so credit is due to Video Manager. Nokia Photo Gallery has been Uninstalled. and Nokia Music for the same reasons, it crashed trying to link to its music shop, not good. it's only at 1.1 so theres time and room for improvement so I will keep an eye on it. I now use freeware "Irfan View" free app off www.filehippo.com 1.48mbs! not 146MBs. With Irfan View installed it simply does a great job of displaying picks and videos in a thumbnail style that is very customisable so I can have black frames with black backgrounds. Videos can be dragged into Media Player Classic. Perfect simple and small in size and well coded, starts instantly. PC Suite 7.1 is great for browsing vides but NOT from .nbu's if it could it would be perfect. It's the best all rounder from Nokia yet and theres always "Noki" for browsing .nbu files.

How do you update phone firmware version?
    1. Download & install Nokia Ovisuite (For Windows User only)
Connect device with NOS> Software updates
    2. Try over the Air update (MAC/Windows User)
If your mobile data rates allow, try doing an over the air update. Support varies by phone, variant and software
Go to tools >Utilities> Device manager (location may vary by device)
There should be an updates tab
This functionality may not be available in your device. Contact your service provider for more information
To view or update the current software version of your device or to check the date of a possible previous update, select Menu> Tools> Utilities> Device mngr
To check whether software updates are available select Options> Check for Updates
First off BACK UP YOUR DEVICE! make sure you have a back up of the memory card and also the device memory and make sure that the battery of your device has enough power or connect the chager before starting update. • Ovi Suite 3.0.0.284 has stopped working on windows...

    Hello,
Since I bought the Nokia N8 and I'm trying to run the Ovi Suite I always get the message "Nokia Ovi Suite has stopped working"
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".
    Event viewer doesn't help really...
Does anyone knows the cause of this or perhaps even better, has a solution?
    I tried already :
    Un-install Re-install
    Run as administrator
    Run XP SP3 compatible
    Thanks anyway.
    Kind regards,
    Chris

    Thank you for your feedback.
Could you please provide us the log files?
    1. Here are the instructions for attaching log files:
    - Open Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.284
You can send these log files, system information details to [email protected] mailbox
