Ovi suite disaster 2

PC Suite is heading for the graveyard so we all have to migrate to Ovi Suite which is a bit of a disaster. Having loaded Ovi Suite , the thing took over my PC. All of my PC. I couldn't switch between applications, answer emails or open documents. So what had happened? Ovi Suite had grabbed all the machine resources to index my music collection. Having had a bad experience with Nokia's ability to manage music in the past, I use another music manager so I didn't want this one. I tried to stop it by stopping it indexing my music folder but that didn't work. It continued, even after I had quit Ovi Suite. I had to stop it manually in Task Manager, then delete the mdatastore.db3 database from the Nokia DataStore / Database data folder. This had the right effect and it stopped.
Why does Nokia do this to us? Other indexing applications are set with a low priority so that they do not consume resources. Google's indexing has little effect on the performance of my computer (even it takes a few days to complete) and is a happy compromise. Nokia's developers seem to think that their applications are the most important of all. Well, they're not. Nokia - stop messing around and provide applications that are usable.

Hi Angsta,
You could try updating to the latest version 2.2.1.23 either thru' software updates from OVi suite or manually downloading it from www.ovi.com/suite
But before doing tat keep in mind tat the latest version has a sync issue, but have a temperory workaround as well. Go thru my post in the below link for the workaround.
/t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/Nokia-Ovi-Suite-2-2-1-23-has-been-released-update-now/m-p/753029#M5429
I hope syncing someway is better than getting an error and not able to sync.

Diwa

  • How to export contacts saved in OVI suite 3.0.0.29...

    Hi All,
Please I am in a great disaster and I will appreciate any help from anyone.
my problem is as follows :-
I was having Nokia N97 mobile and I am now having OVI suite 3.0.0.290 installed on my laptop, the problem is that I was synchronizing contacts between mobile and OVI suite only and the option selected in syncing contacts options is "Don't Sync" and not Microsoft outlook"" and not "microsoft outlook express".
The problem now is that my mobile was stolen and when I opened OVI suite without connecting my N97 stolen mobile I found the contacts there and I can edit and manage anyone of them as much as I can but I can't export them out of OVI suite.
So does anyone have the knowledge on how to export the contacts saved on OVI suite without connecting the mobile to it?
    your help is appreciated

First activate microsoft outlook and then do acoording to following link

  • Ovi suite 3.1.1.90 won't stay logged on to Ovi

Is there any way to fix this? you can check the box "stay logged on" but it has no effectg. every time i sync i have to re-enter my username and password.
Is there any way to fix this? It's beyond annoying
    Win 7 Pro 32
I have already uninstalled all things Nokia, nuked all folders  that i could find (including in c:/appdata) plus deleted all registry entries that I could find.
(98 days to go until I can finally get rid of the N97 and Ovi disaster, which will have been 730 days too many)
Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said

    @ahxsisu
In exactly 98, now 97 days my contract is up and I can end my ordeal with the N97 and Ovi-Suite.
I am counting the days until i can put these truly unpleasant, tedious two years behind me. Instead of making my life easier (as my trusty old Palm T|X did) The N97 and Ovi-Suite  have made things needlessly complicated and tedious.
There were all the bugs in Ovi Suite, removed features (Music sync), buggy features were axed instead of fixed and new bugs introduces (can't add .m4a files to music).
Worse though is the truly pathetic N97 handset, poorly designed and conceived and even more poorly executed.
I wonder which dimwit came up with the 32 GB mass memory / 64mb main memory split? (Of which I can never get more than about 12 mb free, hence I cannot even use QT based apps.
The thing crashes, freezes and wokrs erratically on a more or less regular basis and it's not a faulty unit, all three of my N97s exhibited the same nasty behavior.
I have to take the battery out so frequently (~5 to  10 times a week) to restart this brick (because nothing else works) that the back cover barely stays in place now.
That's why I am counting don the days and I will derive great pleasure in taking a big hammer to the N97 as soon as I get a new handset that most definitely won't be made by Nokia.
The N97 and Ovi Suite have singlehandedly destroyed  almost 14 years of brand loyalty that was only overshadowed by my time with the also quite **bleep** 6280 that I eventually got exchanged for a 5800xm that worked ok.

Was initially ok, when outlook was not selected as conduit.. but then changed contacts, notes and cal to outlook and Boom .. instant disaster..

I've got the same problem. Every time I go to options and try to activate outlook the suite crashes. I think this is bad software. I need my outlook contacts and I am nothing without these contacts in my phone.

  • How to install ovi suite to a drive other than C:?...

how to install ovi suite to a drive other than c:??? my c: drive is almost full with other partitions perfectly free to install it, how do i do that? can i use previous versions of ovi suite to use with my e63? at this point, i'm unable to use ovi suite at all, because there's no room to install it on my c: drive.
allllllllso there's one more thing, when i originally had tried installing ovi suite on my computer i had more than 1gb free. after installing it i on'ly had 500mb free. i had only intended for it to use a very small amount of space, and since i also use my c: drive for virtual memory i quickly uninstalled it, looking for an option i'd maybe skipped over while installing it the first time. no luck. anyways, when i looked in the add/remove programs control panel the installed size of ovi suite was only 40-50mb. even after uninstalling ovi suite the extra memory space that seemed to all of a sudden taken up by the installation stayed used.
when looking at the file sizes of everything on my hard drive, (including system files and paging file) there is still a descreprency between the amount of memory used and the size of all files total on the drive. at this point im quite disgusted and disapointed in ovi suite as i'm mostly unable to use it to connect my phone to my computer and i'm also having problems with the CA101 cable as well. i guess i'll have to go check for another cable.
nokia!!! wake up and fix yo **bleep**!!!!
anyone have any solutions for the main problem? (installing to a drive other than c? is there support for this option in any of the new beta versions? can that be included in the newest betas? i'm suuuuuure i'm not the only one begging for this option!!!

Hi ostrenga4, sorry to hear about your experiences.
When installing Nokia Ovi Suite to PC, Windows makes "system restoration points", which are available to restore operating system to previous condition, if something goes wrong, for example in driver installation.
You can change install location of Nokia Ovi Suite with following:
    - Download Nokia Ovi Suite install package from Nokia Ovi Suite pages
    - Start Windows Command prompt
    - From Command prompt, navigate to folder containing Nokia Ovi Suite install package, which you downloaded
    - Start Nokia Ovi Suite install package with command line "Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller.exe /TARGET="D:\TestDir\Test"
    - This results, that Nokia Ovi Suite installer creates folder D:\TestDir\Test (if that doesn't exist) and installs Nokia Ovi Suite there.
    - Unfortunately, Windows Installer still keeps installer cache files and system restoration points in C: drive (or whatever your system drive is)
As you can see, this is possible, but it is very much recommend to have enough space for installing software into system drive.
    Cheers, Samuli

  • Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your devi...

5 months has passed and many hours on the phone to Nokia. The phone has been completely reset /reboot by Nokia time and time again and still the phone gets this message when trying to update software..."Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device"....We were optimistic that the software upgrade would solve the other problems we are having with all the Nokia phones at work. They are all E52's

Having the same issue currently with an E72 software version is 054.005.266.02 and Ovi Suite 3.1.1.80
Actually I had connection lost all the time with all previous versions of Ovi Suite too... it has never been reliable.
Using original Nokia USB cable, connected securely. Tried different PCs, different USB ports, same issue.
Just now I'm trying software update and it looses connection during the backup process all the time... very disappointing. Screenshot attached if anybody is interested.

  • E5: Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device...

I am trying to update the software on my E5 using OVI suite but I keep getting an error during the install phase (after backup). The following error and instructions are displayed in the OVI suite window but makes no difference when I follow these instructions (just end up back with the same error).
"Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device. Follow these steps to help reconnect your device:
    1. Remove USB cable from your device.
    2. Restart the device (turn off and on again).
    3. Re-insert the USB cable.
    4. Click 'Ok' below to continue updating."
Current E5 software version is 042.007.
I am trying to update to E5 software v. 043.115
    Any ideas?

Yep having the same issue. Just got a replacement handset due to the random restarting issue, soon after setting up the new handset I get a message on phone saying software update is available. Both OVI suite and Nokia software updater say version 43.115 is available (about 200mb in size), I currently have the same version as you 42.007. It claims to do a lot of improvements to the handset. The update downloads fine but when it comes to installing I keep getting the same issue. Phone simply will not restart automatically and the update restarts then fails at the same point over and over. Had the same problem with my previous handset.
I spoke with my network provider to see if it was an issue with the handset needing firmware specific to them but they said no it is an issue with the firmware itself and has been happening to everyone since its release!!! They said I should not download it until Nokia has resolved the issues with it. But how do I know when that will happen as I cannot find anything put out by Nokia stating there is an issue or anywhere on web forums saying there is actually a problem.

  • Installing OVI Suit on Windows Vista Enterprise di...

    Hy,
I have a great problem with the OVI suit installation on a Windows Vista Enterprise 32Bit.
Before i install ovi suit, there was the "Nokia PC Suit" on the PC this software is uninstalled now, and also i run the “Nokia_PC_Suite_Cleaner_7_1_1.exe“.
Also i have browsed the Support Board and Google/Bing for solutions,
But nothing of these entries can help me with this installation.
OVI Suit version is actually downloaded yesterday (3.0.0.290).
The installation stops at 1/3 of the normal run.
I have tested the installation on 3 machines like the problem PC, without a problem.
So i have no idea what i can do to run the installation to the end.
Now I have started a new try to install the OVI Suit, and deleted before all Registry-Keys.
By the way, is this really normal that the installation needs more than 120MB RAM?
So it’s 16:30 at your site next business day is Monday, i hope you have all details and can help me.
    Greats from Austria

Uninstall Ovi and re-download from Nokia web. Reinstalled Ovi Suite but that didn't work.
I then uninstalled all Ovi and all Nokia related software, cleaned Registry and reinstall Ovi Suite: Failed to fix.
Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize.

    How to solve this problem?

    LOL
I just tried Nokia Ovi Suite again to copy the full error report that it sends to Microsoft.... lo and behold it started to work again?????

This I did before I tried

Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize with Nokia PC Suite.
Made a complete backup on my phone.
Installed Nokia Software Updater and I reinstall the latest FW 51.0.006 to my phone.
Then I organized my content for a few minutes.
Shut down Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater.
    Started up Nokia Ovi Suite.
Connected my phone and clicked on PC-Suite on the options.
    It now works again????
Something happened when I installed PC Suite that enabled me to use my Nokia 5800 with Ovi Suite again.

  • Nokia OVI Suite and Nokia Care Support

Today I called Nokia Support, because I could not download maps with map loader.
The guy asked if the ovi suite is installed. I told him, that the Ovi suite keeps on crashing on start-up on my machine, and that all other software is running fine, e.g. the PC suite which I am using instead.
For a price of 14 Cent/Minutes this "Nokia-Care"-guy had the nuts telling me that probably my computer needs to be fixed. After telling him that my computer works fine with all other software, he finally told me that I need to call Microsoft, as it would be their fault that Ovi Suite is not running on my machine.
This is a poor joke called "Nokia-Care". Dear Nokia-people, that is no-support and no-care-at-all. Providing something that crashes for free, and charging money for providing rudeness on the phone.

    Hey,
Hw did u instlld ur latest version, w/o installing previous version, if yes, unistall and reinstall NOS, it will work

  • Ovi suite and nokia c5-03

I have tried continually today to get my phone to be recognised by ovi suite.
It see's the phone model when adding a new device, but when i click on the phone, it comes up with the phone is not in ovi suite mode????
What the heck, its the only mode available apart from mass storage etc.
It IS in ovi suite mode, I have done this several times, unplugged the phone from the USB cable and replugged it in. restarted ovi suite. restarted the computer, all to no avail.
Cannot even use pc suite, which is the program i actually prefer to use. PC suite recognises i have the c5 connected but wont allow me to do anything either
Please please help i need to back up and put stuff on the phone that i had saved from my old phone (old phone lost somewhere on the motorway so cannot sync that way)

    Hi,
Can you try the suggestions below?
-Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel (called Programs
and Features in Microsoft Windows 7).
Select Nokia Ovi Suite in the list of applications and click
    Change/Remove.
In the dialog that appears, choose Repair.
    - Click Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and repair
-Try creating the connection between your phone and computer
totally from scratch. Start by disconnecting your phone. In
Nokia Ovi Suite, select Tools > Options > My devices. Select
your phone at the top of the window and click Remove this
    device.
Then, select Tools > Add new device, and follow the
    instructions to reconnect the phone.
If this doesn't solve the problem,
-Uninstall the following programs withAdd/Remove Programs in
Control Panel (called Programs and Features in Microsoft
    Windows 7):
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Then, download and install the latest version of Nokia Ovi
    I hope this helps.

  • Ovi Suite + 5230 USB not working

    Preamble:
I recently connected my Nokia 5230 mobile phone to my PC via USB connection and loaded up Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23). Everything worked lovely. But alas! Both an Ovi suite update was available, as well as a update for the phone itself! So I downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.0.0.284).
Unfortunately, now Ovi Suite does not detect when I select "PC Suite" USB mode (selected on the phone screen). This essentially makes Ovi Suite useless.
So I followed some advice on other discussion pages (more on that later) and reinstalled the Ovi Suite. The problem persisted.
Here are some pictures to help you understand my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/5IknF.jpg
The computer is able detect the phone is connected via USB. I can even browse the contents of the phone memory and memory card. Upon detecting the connected phone, and me pressing 'PC Suite' on the phone screen, it will show this:
    http://i.imgur.com/lV0rs.jpg
I cannot progress past this screen. The Ovi Suite simply does not recognise that I've selected that option on the phone.
    Defense:
I know what your thinking. "Just another USB thread". Well, I did in fact read plenty of threads on this forum before posting, and have spent the last few hours uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and drivers in various ways (as suggested in those threads), with no success.
The following is a list of forum threads which I have read and tried all the solutions found in each, and I have copied the solutions (which appear to have worked for other people), for your convenience:

Solutions which did not work for me:
Could you please follow these steps and check?
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
    1. Uninstall all nokia related applications like Ovisuite, pc suite, connectivity cable driver,pc connectivity solutions, nokia software updater etc. from ur PC.
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Now download and install the recent ovisuite from http://www.ovi.com/suite
    4. After installation, disconnect/disable your internet connection (this will make sure that the PC use the drivers which comes with ovisuite and  prevent the PC from downloading any new drivers from internet) and then connect your mobile and wait for drivers and support software installation.
    5. After drivers installation you can connect your mobile to ovisuite from ovisuite screen.

Solution which did not work for me:
    Hi GannonC,
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs.
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.
    http://www.ovi.com/suite
After OVi Suite installation, restart your PC, disconnect your internet from PC and connect your mobile to the PC. This is to prevent the PC searching for a new drivers from internet. OVi suite has all the required drivers for all the nokia phones available in market.
Once all the required drivers are installed automatically, you try connecting the mobile by selecting 'Connect your device' from the bottom left on the OVi suite screen. You should be able to connect your device now.
After connecting you can go ahead and update your maps/ download new country maps.
NOTE: before updating your maps/ download new country maps, you should have used your maps in you mobile atleast once.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
You can connect back your internet anytime after the drivers installation.

Choose Nokia Nokia Cable Connectivity then Change and repair
Do the same for PC Connectivity Solution - Change then repair
    Reboot computer
After re-starting the computer, I also followed this portion of a suggestion from another post (don't know if it made a difference or not):
"connected the device, waited till all the drivers were loaded.
    Then launched Ovi suite"
     (From /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/E52-Sync-Error-8393f010-838c03ee/m-p/740481)
Ovi Suite then recognized my device and the sync appears to have gone smoothly.  I hope it works for you too!  It's ridiculous that it causes so many problems though--I've wasted many hours on something that should have installed correctly the first time.
Other threads with this problem, which I came across that mention the same problem with various other phones:

    Zship's revelations:
So this is not really a problem for me. I have the working, older (2.2.1.23) version of Ovi Suite installed on my netbook, and sure enough, it works fine, I just tried it. I wont be updating Ovi Suite on it though. I also could probably just download the update via 3.5G using just the phone itself, but the problem remains that a simple software update has caused a critical connectivity problem between your software and hardware. Given that many Nokia customers would have less technical know-how than say, myself or anyone else on this forum, this problem is a quite likely a huge inconvenience to them, they probably wouldn't visit these discussions and spend 5 hours reinstalling software like I just did, and they surely would be thinking twice before purchasing another Nokia device in the future.
tl;dr - Nokia recommended update breaks connectivity between software and device, various attempts to fix seemingly simple problem don't work.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

SAME PROBLEM. And none of the many suggested solutions has worked for me yet. I want to thank all on this thread (and many others) for their help. I've learned a lot but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. I think maybe Nokia needs to ... uh ... bloody well BOTHER TO FIX THIS ISSUE themselves, maybe. Like, cuz they're PAID FOR IT and I'M NOT. Harrumph.
I run Windows XP, and was on Media Player 11, but have rolled back to 9 and 10. I have a Nokia E 72. I have all the latest Nokia cable-drivers, PC Suite, OVI Suite, Connectivity software, etc.. The symptoms are as follows: when I plug in the phone by USB cable, the laptop won't recognize it. It says "USB device faulty" or "failed to load properly" and refuses to get the hardware into its brain. The Device Manager shows only a "Unknown Device" which I cannot install drivers onto. Taking the extra media-card out of the phone doesn't make any difference -- nothing I've done will make the computer recognize the main (built-in) card in the phone. I can't browse to it via any sort of populate / repopulate disk drive, or any other method of connecting it.
As I understand it, this is some conflict with the phone and the new concept of MTP. Media Transfer Protocol confuses the computer, causing it to kind-of think that the phone is kind-of a media player, when in fact it's a whole lot more. So, the "parent" doesn't get loaded, then the rest of the phone doesn't get loaded, then it kind-of tries to load some MTP but fails, etc.. If I could browse to the phone through a non-Nokia connection I'd be happy to do so in order to implement any of a number of the suggestions above. But I can't get the computer to recognize the phone when the phone is plugged in by USB, regardless of all the solutions above.
The problem began a few days ago. It just up and wouldn't recognize the phone. I hadn't installed any updates that I knew of on either item, but it's possible that my memory is faulty and a newer version of this or that snuck in there and screwed it all up. I have tried a serious roll-back to a Restore Point about six weeks old, but that didn't solve the problem. This suggests to me that the problem is phone-resident, since the rollback was to a computer-based Restore Point and I don't have phone rollback capability.
This seriously hampers me. PC Suite, OVI, and some future version of Nokia Suite, will all be useless to me unless Nokia accomplishes the stunning act of supporting their software. I won't hold my breath. Just in general, you'd think that plug-and-play of a phone into your computer would be a lot simpler. Just take the cord -- stick it in the phone; stick it in the computer -- and shazam, you're plugged in. But NOOOOOO we're on NOOOOOOKIA ... Now I know why Microsoft wanted to buy them so badly. They knew they'd all get along and have the same assumptions about software -- that it doesn't really matter whether it works reliably on a user's computer at his home, as long as it works in theory on some programmer's ideal personal computer in Seattle once in a rare while. Nokia? Meet Microsoft. Microsoft? You and Nokia will get along juuuust fiiiine ...

  • How do you export messages from Ovi Suite?

As the title says, how do you export messages from Ovi Suite?
I know how to export messages from Nokia PC Suite, but it doesn't seem to be possible in the new Nokia Ovi Suite.
Here is how I would do it in the Nokia PC Suite.
    1. I click the Messages icon to open Nokia Communication Center.
    2. I click on the Messages option on the left pane to view only messages.
    3. In the main window I mark the messages I want to export.
    4. Then I go to File menu and chose Export.
    5. Choose destination folder and I'm all set to export my messages from my Nokia.
I can chose between the formats CSV and VMG (vMessage) for export. If more than one message is marked only the CSV format is available. But what you can do to export several messages in the VMG format is to mark them all in the main window and press CTRL+C or right click and chose Copy to copy them all to RAM memory. Then all you have to do is create an empty folder on the desktop and paste them in there by pressing CTRL+V or right clicking and chosing Paste.
That's all there is to it, using Nokia PC Suite. So how do you do this in Nokia Ovi Suite? You don't, right?
And this **bleep** Ovi Suite is supposed to replace PC Suite?
Thank God I won't be needing neither of them much longer. I am switching to Android and HTC. Good luck with Ovi, the Ovi Player, the Ovi Suite, the PC Suite, the Symbian, the S60, the Symbian^1 (S60 5th edition), the Symbian^3, the Symbian^4 and what not.

I believe OVI took a step in the right direction with this option. I also believe it was made available due to the fact that OVI Suite cannot take a huge number of messages altogether. This option was made available so that the messages could be backed up.
However, I'd like to suggest the following, if possible.
    1. Make Nokia OVI Suite be able to handle a huge number of messages.
    2. Have the option to export only selected messages.
