Ovi suite - 'find music on ovi store'

The 'Find music on OVI store' screen, has only Search function, but doesnt allow the rich browse experience as available in the web site. Is this intentional?
If I click 'Browse all music on Ovi', it takes me to website, but doesnt allow me to download there :-(
So should I always  visit the website and browse to see interested albums, come back to the suite and search and download. Is this expected?
Not sure if I'm missing something here.

Hi,
Ovi Suite is really an horrible software. I was unable to exclude files from the music library, and they was already deleted from the file system. I kept trying to delete but nothing happened!!!
I found where the Ovi Suite keeps the its music library database...
With the Ovi Suite closed, go to the folder (in Windows 7):
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\DataBase
And rename the file MDataStore.db3 to MDataStore.old.
Open the Ovi Suite and now just adds yor music to the library. It will take some time but will be an updated library. (if you have any music you don't wanna in the library, move it to another folder before this procedure).

  • Ovi Suite 3 - Music library refresh problem

Hi, i am using Windows 7 x64 and newest Ovi Suite 3.0.0.284.
I've been searching to find a thread with a similar problem and find none. So the problem is that i can't refresh my music library in Ovi Suite. There is just no such option. I am not gonna complain about his program showing pieces of music that i have deleted months ago, because that is something i can live with. This is just ridicolous.
I have an album that i have moved from a disk to disk and i can't copy it to a device because there is a yellow triangle with a (!) near songs and ovi claiming those files dont exist. They exist but this program just cannot update the directiories. How of an advanced option is that? Who are the people this program is designed for? This software is a joke. How can i refresh the library without changing my system files, formating the discs, buying a new phone and a new PC?

  • N86 noted detected by OVI Suite, Nokia Music, Noki...

I bought a N86 8MP 3 days back and the package came with OVI Suite DVD. This DVD installed the below software on my PC:
    Nokia Ovi Suite 1.1.243
    Nokia Photos v 1.6.103
    Nokia Music v 1.1.11203.00
My PC satisfies the system requirements for OVI Suite and runs Windows XP SP3.
While OVI Suite seems to detect the phone & displays the Memory status, the Nokia Photos & Nokia Music do not even detect the phone.
I also found that OVI Suite compatibility page on Nokia website not listing N86 8MP as compatible phone... Is that true?
If that is true, why is OVI Suite DVD bundled with N86 8MP Package?
What should I do to resolve so that I can start transferring contents between PC & N86?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shankar

Thanks Cricfancy -- Your response helped... Tried with the latest download of both OVI Suite 2.0 as well as PC Suite 7.1.
The Phone is getting detected properly and so the basic issue seem to be resolved.
The next issue I now have is:
Issue#1: I tried "Copy to Device" option in OVI Suite 2.0's Nokia Music module to copy few MP3s from my PC onto my N86 Phone but it keeps giving an error as "could not be transferred".
I have tried this using both PC Suite USB mode as well as Media Transfer USB mode.
Other details are same as available on the initial post -- I have Win XP SP3 as OS.
Does Nokia Music require specific media file format to transfer from PC to Phone?
Does MP3 files need to be converted?
Issue#2: I used Mass Storage USB option and copied these MP3 files onto the Music directory onto the 8GB memory.
On the N86 phone, I'm able to use "Applications" ==> "Office" ==> "File Mgr" ==> "Mass Memory" ==> Navigate to Music folder ==> Open the specific MP3 and play.
But now I need to physically navigate thru the above path and select each media file individually -- can't get them playing one after another or access thru the Music Player !
How do I configure these media files within Music folder to be accessible from the Music Player within N86 phone?
    Is that not possible?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shankar

  • Ovi suite 1.1 vs ovi suite 2

I have 1-1 installed on one computer and tried version 2 on another and much prefer 1.1 for syncing to Outlook as you can choose which folder to sync to on Outlook plus lots of other choices, what happened to version 2 they seemed to have removed lots of the functionality?
Therefore I have uninstalled V.2 and reinstalled V1.1 fom the CD I got with my N85.  Also Nklia PC suite is such a great programme - try LG PC suite - only found my phone once!!!!  Never again will I buy anything other than Nokia. (unless they too lose the plot LOL)

Several sources on the net say that one should not use OVI suite with Nokia N900.
    So I uninstalled it.
    But:
the synchronisation N900 -> PC Suite does not work when changing an address on the N900, defining sync direction N900 -> PC suite and syncing the 2nd time.
This is a huge mess folks!
pc suite works perfectly for syncing contacts/calendar/notes with outlook.
So what was wrong in my case?
I first installed PC suite, had to set up the Outlook stuff since I usually use Thunderbird
(btw. when does PC Suite or OVI Suite support Thunderbird?).
Then I synced contacts/calendar with PC Suite. This was ok.
But I could not sync SMS or send SMS with PC Suite.
Therefore I installed OVI suite because on the first run nobody from Nokia wrote something
on the webpage that OVI suite is not capable of sending SMS via the N900.
Then I found out that neither PC suite nor OVI suite can send SMS via N900.
Deinstalled OVI Suite because several sources said it is a nono with N900.
And now I cannot sync to PC suite with settings changed to the only direction
N900 -> PC suite (so that my stuff on N900 is not altered - N900 shall be the "master" so to say).

  • E51 can not copy music to device with Ovi Suite

I have music files on my computer and I'm trying to copy them to my phone using Ovi Suite.
According to Ovi Suite's instructions, to do this manually I have to choose the music file and select Tools - Copy to device. But this option can not be chosen after selecting a music file (it stays gray) Why is that?
The E51 should have enough memory left for the music, but it does not have a memory card. Is that the problem?

    Hi Seimussier,
Yes you are right, you cant copy music files to the phone memory through the OVi suite. It need a memory card for that purpose.
In case if you want an alternative you can go through your explorer, open your device memory and paste your music files.
Once you finish transfering your music files, disconnect your device, open your music player and update your Music library. Now you should be able to see your music files.
Note: Through this method you can only transfer your music files, but cant convert the same in case if it is not supported by the phone

  • OVI Suite 3.0.0.284 : Cannot sync contacts

After my multitude of issues with the new N8, had to set up a router just for this device because it would crash my whole network, I decided to update to this version of OVI SUITE.  Long story short, I lost capability to sync my contacts with Outlook 2010. It worked with the previous version, this one simply crashes. Sync's everything else but contacts.  I said, there was a problem with the update process. I uninstalled the thing 10 times according to the guides here and no luck. Heck, I even formatted my laptop yesterday! Yeah, for New Year's whilsts I was waiting of guests I was formatting my laptop. Still no joy. Fresh OS, with fresh Outlook and brand new PST, does not sycn contacts. OVI Crashes!
Any solutions? Please don't say remove the software because I installed the damn thing on brand new OS and still crashes.

I reported this issue to Nokia Support, got a detailed answer. Have not tried the suggested things because I was able to sync contacts by doing uninstall of OVI Suit and reinstalling from OVI Suit download link at betlabs.nokia.com.
    Here´s the official answer:

    C:\Users\Benutzername\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store\DataBase
Dieser Ordner ist sowohl unter Windows XP als auch unter Windows Vista ein versteckter Ordner, so dass Sie ihn unter Umständen je nach gewählten Optionen erst sichtbar machen müssen:
    a. Klicken Sie auf Start und anschließend auf Ausführen.
    b. Schreiben Sie control folders in die Box und klicken Sie Enter.

  • Nokis Ovi suite, unable to sync. contacts

I have deleted my Nokia PC suite and I have installed Nokia Ovi suite. I have connected my new phone; 5530 which Ovi suite has accepted but when I sync using the usb cable I can't see that my contacts have been copies to Ovi, if they have I can't find them.
Do contacts copy to the Ovi suite or only over the air to Ovi?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear cricfancy,
I also do the same as you PIM data with PC suite and multimedia with OVI both the latest versions. The reason is that I wish to sync PIM with my work computer which syncs to an exchange server and I want to keep my multimedia on my private PC (I also like the archive of my SMS). The problem is that at some point (unfortunately I don't know exactly what I have done - I have posted previously on this but no replies) my multimedia has stopped syncing to OVI. The USB and bluetooth connections to OVI suite are succesful but OVI does not see the new pictures and SMS that are not synced. Sync is successful but it reports that there were no transfers.
I have looked at the SYNC settings on my N85 and with the PC Suite profile I can see that the PIM data has synched successfully but the multimedia, text messages, media options are not ticked. These I have tried ticking and then re-synching but no success. I have looked in the options for these and most of them show the database on the phone, but the field for the Remote databases "must be defined". I have tried looking in the help and around the net for these settings. Do you knoe where I can find the default settings for OVI and PC suites? Does one need two sync profiles, one for OVIsuite and one for PC suite. I can see that I have one for Nokia Maps.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated as this has been driving me bonkers for months now knowing that I don't have a browsable archive of my multimedia on my pc - of course i take regular backups.
    cheers
    jake
PS: sorry for continuing this slightly off topic thread here - but your post is the closest I have seen to solving my problem.

  • N900 Ovi Suite Compatibility

Is N900 already compatible with Ovi Suite. Or it won't happen within the next five years...

    epends on your machine.
if you are using the 64bit machine....not really at all, if 32bit, not good, but better then 64bit.
i do not recommend 9/8 suite for n900 yet.
if you need a sync solution, see below.
    download pc suite @  http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/nokia-pc-suites/compatibility-and-download
DO NOT USE THE OVI SUITE
if you have ovi suite installed, then uninstall it first.
then install the pc suite from the link above.
after you have completed the installation, reboot your pc.
upon reboot, launch the pc suite (if it has not already) (i would set the settings to launch with windows start up)
when the software is running, click on the blue &green yin~yang icon for sync.
click on the phone icon, it will pop up a box to help you find a phone.
plug your phone in the usb cable, choose the pc suite on you n900
click on searcy icon onthe phone connection pop-up.
once your phone is connected, then go back to the original box that youclick on the phone icon, and click on the wrench icon to set up what, and how you want synced.
if your contacts and calendar are up to date on your pc, and you want to start fresh, then chekc the box for replace all data on the handset, and then sync.
after that sync, go back into the wrench and change that setting to how you want it to sync, otherwise, everytime you sync, it will completely change all the data to what youhave in outlook instead of adding and syncing all appointments, etc back and forth.
if you have bluetooth on you pc, then it is just as easy to do it that way.

  • Ovi suite is starting to grind my gears

Ovi suite.  Errors trying to connect to the Nokia authentication servers.
The error rather humourously says I'm behind a proxy, check the Internet connection.  At this point, to try and convince Ovi suite I am connected I have IE, Firefox and for kicks I installed Chrome, all on different web sites, all happily connected.  I have no firewall installed and no proxy setup.
I've repaired Ovi suite, removed and reinstalled Ovi suite, yet it still refuses to connect.  It was happily updating Ovi Maps earlier today but since that time now refuses to work.
I have seen numerous forum posts (here and elsewhere) but have yet to find a single solution.

I just saw on Nokia Europe page that OVI needs .NET to run. I looked at the system requirements and they said nothing like this. I don't have .NET and don't want it. So is this true? It runs slower than molasses in January. I can't get the stand alone updater to run. CS

My new nokia 5230 will not pair with ovi-suite. Ovie suite finds it in its search for devices, but when it asks me to put the random code into my phone, nothing comes up on my phone and within a second or two ovi-suite tells me pairing has failed. • Ovi Suite and iTunes conflict ?

    Dear All.
For my N97 Mini,    I use under Windows 7 the Ovi Suite 2.2.0.245.  It works fine and it synchronize the music present in the folder "My music" ...
The problem is that iTunes does not even run when Ovi Suite runs ...
I try to explain better.     If I UNinstall completely iTunes (and ALL Apple SW present on my laptop) then when I re-install it, immediately it works fine (I can see my complete set of songs, I can buy new ones, etc ...).
When after I run the Ovi Suite, this reads from the iTunes folder in "My Music" all the old and new songs, and it (re)synchronize with my N97 Mini ... perfect ! (I can listen the songs on my N97 Mini!)  but when I run again iTunes a small windows appears which says "The handle is invalid", and iTunes never starts ... so I have to uninstall/re-install  it (and ALL Apple SW !!!) again ...
Any suggestion to solve this problem ?
    Many thanks,
    ML

    Hi Mlena,
Even i have both Ovi Suite and itunes installed in my Windows 7 desktop. I am able to run both the softwares simultaneoulsly.
Looks like the issue is specific to your PC. You could try uninstalling both itunes and Ovi Suite and install one by one both again.
For OVi Suite you need to follow the below steps.
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Also a screen-shot of the error will help

    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.

After OVi suite installation , restart the PC then install the itunes.

  • Ovi Suite + 5230 USB not working

    Preamble:
I recently connected my Nokia 5230 mobile phone to my PC via USB connection and loaded up Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23). Everything worked lovely. But alas! Both an Ovi suite update was available, as well as a update for the phone itself! So I downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.0.0.284).
Unfortunately, now Ovi Suite does not detect when I select "PC Suite" USB mode (selected on the phone screen). This essentially makes Ovi Suite useless.
So I followed some advice on other discussion pages (more on that later) and reinstalled the Ovi Suite. The problem persisted.
Here are some pictures to help you understand my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/5IknF.jpg
The computer is able detect the phone is connected via USB. I can even browse the contents of the phone memory and memory card. Upon detecting the connected phone, and me pressing 'PC Suite' on the phone screen, it will show this:
    http://i.imgur.com/lV0rs.jpg
I cannot progress past this screen. The Ovi Suite simply does not recognise that I've selected that option on the phone.
    Defense:
I know what your thinking. "Just another USB thread". Well, I did in fact read plenty of threads on this forum before posting, and have spent the last few hours uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and drivers in various ways (as suggested in those threads), with no success.
The following is a list of forum threads which I have read and tried all the solutions found in each, and I have copied the solutions (which appear to have worked for other people), for your convenience:
    /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/Ovi-Suite-PC-Suite-USB-Connection-Problem/td-p/682828
Solutions which did not work for me:
Could you please follow these steps and check?
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
    1. Uninstall all nokia related applications like Ovisuite, pc suite, connectivity cable driver,pc connectivity solutions, nokia software updater etc. from ur PC.
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Now download and install the recent ovisuite from http://www.ovi.com/suite
    4. After installation, disconnect/disable your internet connection (this will make sure that the PC use the drivers which comes with ovisuite and  prevent the PC from downloading any new drivers from internet) and then connect your mobile and wait for drivers and support software installation.
    5. After drivers installation you can connect your mobile to ovisuite from ovisuite screen.

Solution which did not work for me:
    Hi GannonC,
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs.
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.
    http://www.ovi.com/suite
After OVi Suite installation, restart your PC, disconnect your internet from PC and connect your mobile to the PC. This is to prevent the PC searching for a new drivers from internet. OVi suite has all the required drivers for all the nokia phones available in market.
Once all the required drivers are installed automatically, you try connecting the mobile by selecting 'Connect your device' from the bottom left on the OVi suite screen. You should be able to connect your device now.
After connecting you can go ahead and update your maps/ download new country maps.
NOTE: before updating your maps/ download new country maps, you should have used your maps in you mobile atleast once.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
You can connect back your internet anytime after the drivers installation.

Once you add the device back to Ovi Suite, Select tools -> Add device, reconfigure the Sync -> Option - device sync settings and sync again.
    If it does not help:
    Go to

Maarten, I had the same issue and it started after I updated Ovi Suite as well as my device software. I found this in another thread and thought it might help you. I just uninstalled the 3 items and downloaded and installed as prescribed by going to nokia.com/support and downloading and reinstalling Ovi Suite.... Merry Christmas

***** Select Ovi Suite via Tools -> Options -> My device -> Remove this device.
Once you add the device back to Ovi Suite, Select tools -> Add device,
reconfigure the Sync -> Option - device sync settings and sync again.
    *****If it does not help:
    Go to
Control Panel--> Right click and Programs and Features or add/remove programs
     "Repair" Nokia Ovi Suite.
    Go to
Control Panel--> Programs and Features or add/remove programs - > Right click
and "Repair" Nokia Connectivity cable driver & PC Connectivity solution.
***** If it does not help:
Uninstall the following Programs, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features or
     Add or Remove Programs.
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the Nokia.com/support.
After OVi Suite installation, restart your PC, disconnect your internet from PC and
connect your mobile to the PC. This is to prevent the PC searching for a new drivers
from internet. OVi suite has all the required drivers for all the nokia phones available
    in market.
Once all the required drivers are installed automatically, you try connecting the mobile
    by selecting
'Connect your device' from the bottom left on the OVi suite screen. You should be able
    to connect your device now.

Solution which did not work for me (simmilar to above):
    frauk:
I found this on the Europe forum and it worked for me--finally!
    From /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/Synchronisation-error-code-8393f010/m-p/734155/highlight/true#M21944...
    Click Start
    Click Control Panel
Click Programs and Features or Add/remove Programs
Choose Nokia Nokia Cable Connectivity then Change and repair
Do the same for PC Connectivity Solution - Change then repair
    Reboot computer
After re-starting the computer, I also followed this portion of a suggestion from another post (don't know if it made a difference or not):
"connected the device, waited till all the drivers were loaded.
    Then launched Ovi suite"
     (From /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/E52-Sync-Error-8393f010-838c03ee/m-p/740481)
Ovi Suite then recognized my device and the sync appears to have gone smoothly.  I hope it works for you too!  It's ridiculous that it causes so many problems though--I've wasted many hours on something that should have installed correctly the first time.
Other threads with this problem, which I came across that mention the same problem with various other phones:

    Zship's revelations:
So this is not really a problem for me. I have the working, older (2.2.1.23) version of Ovi Suite installed on my netbook, and sure enough, it works fine, I just tried it. I wont be updating Ovi Suite on it though. I also could probably just download the update via 3.5G using just the phone itself, but the problem remains that a simple software update has caused a critical connectivity problem between your software and hardware. Given that many Nokia customers would have less technical know-how than say, myself or anyone else on this forum, this problem is a quite likely a huge inconvenience to them, they probably wouldn't visit these discussions and spend 5 hours reinstalling software like I just did, and they surely would be thinking twice before purchasing another Nokia device in the future.
tl;dr - Nokia recommended update breaks connectivity between software and device, various attempts to fix seemingly simple problem don't work.
    Solved!

SAME PROBLEM. And none of the many suggested solutions has worked for me yet. I want to thank all on this thread (and many others) for their help. I've learned a lot but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. I think maybe Nokia needs to ... uh ... bloody well BOTHER TO FIX THIS ISSUE themselves, maybe. Like, cuz they're PAID FOR IT and I'M NOT. Harrumph.
I run Windows XP, and was on Media Player 11, but have rolled back to 9 and 10. I have a Nokia E 72. I have all the latest Nokia cable-drivers, PC Suite, OVI Suite, Connectivity software, etc.. The symptoms are as follows: when I plug in the phone by USB cable, the laptop won't recognize it. It says "USB device faulty" or "failed to load properly" and refuses to get the hardware into its brain. The Device Manager shows only a "Unknown Device" which I cannot install drivers onto. Taking the extra media-card out of the phone doesn't make any difference -- nothing I've done will make the computer recognize the main (built-in) card in the phone. I can't browse to it via any sort of populate / repopulate disk drive, or any other method of connecting it.
As I understand it, this is some conflict with the phone and the new concept of MTP. Media Transfer Protocol confuses the computer, causing it to kind-of think that the phone is kind-of a media player, when in fact it's a whole lot more. So, the "parent" doesn't get loaded, then the rest of the phone doesn't get loaded, then it kind-of tries to load some MTP but fails, etc.. If I could browse to the phone through a non-Nokia connection I'd be happy to do so in order to implement any of a number of the suggestions above. But I can't get the computer to recognize the phone when the phone is plugged in by USB, regardless of all the solutions above.
The problem began a few days ago. It just up and wouldn't recognize the phone. I hadn't installed any updates that I knew of on either item, but it's possible that my memory is faulty and a newer version of this or that snuck in there and screwed it all up. I have tried a serious roll-back to a Restore Point about six weeks old, but that didn't solve the problem. This suggests to me that the problem is phone-resident, since the rollback was to a computer-based Restore Point and I don't have phone rollback capability.
This seriously hampers me. PC Suite, OVI, and some future version of Nokia Suite, will all be useless to me unless Nokia accomplishes the stunning act of supporting their software. I won't hold my breath. Just in general, you'd think that plug-and-play of a phone into your computer would be a lot simpler. Just take the cord -- stick it in the phone; stick it in the computer -- and shazam, you're plugged in. But NOOOOOO we're on NOOOOOOKIA ... Now I know why Microsoft wanted to buy them so badly. They knew they'd all get along and have the same assumptions about software -- that it doesn't really matter whether it works reliably on a user's computer at his home, as long as it works in theory on some programmer's ideal personal computer in Seattle once in a rare while. Nokia? Meet Microsoft. Microsoft? You and Nokia will get along juuuust fiiiine ...
