Ovi Suite hangs on sync

Hello, I just bought a Nokia N8 and wanted to sync with Outlook. The first time it worked, but after removing the phone and reconnecting the sync hangs at different stages. Sometimes in the preparation stage "Synchronisation wird vorbereitet", sometimes during sync. There is no error message, why it hangs. After deinstalling and removing any phone specific drivers from device panel I reinstalled the Ovi suite. First sync worked, second not. In my opinion, regular reinstallation for every sync is no option. Any other ideas? Windows 7 pro 64 bit, Ovi suite 3.0.0.290, Outlook 2003.

Hi,
N8
Win7 x64
Ovi 3.0.0.290
I have exact same problem as OP.
I spent 4 hours this morning attempting to sync contacts, which I eventually managed to do.
I am now trying to sync Calendar & Tasks, but having no luck.  Ovi always hangs with one of two possible status messages (both of which were originally described by OP).
Either:
...or...
I have tried all suggestions put forward by mahayv in this thread, up to and including deletion of the MDataStore.db3 file.  BTW, deleting this file did not make Ovi Suite lose all contacts, messages etc., as mahayv indicated it would.
When Ovi hangs on Sync, and I attempt to cancel, it then hangs again with the following message:
After I then shut down Ovi, using File > Exit, both the program window and notification area green "Ovi" icon disappear, but two processes are still running (namely: NokiaOviSuite.exe and nokiaaserver.exe).  These processes must be manually terminated before Ovi Suite can be successfully restarted.  If I do not manually terminate these processes and try to restart Ovi Suite, then what happens is I get multiple copies of these processes appearing in task manager, but no Ovi Suite window will ever appear.
Bottom line: Ovi Suite is not behaving remotely as it should.
I have tried many possible solutions, suggested both here and in other threads and forums.  These include:
Reinstalling Ovi Suite
Repairing Nokia connectivity cable driver
Reinstalling Nokia connectivity cable driver
"Repair Sync" option within Ovi Suite
Uninstalling ALL Nokia software and reinstalling
Restoring a C drive backup I took about a week ago (i.e. before all this started) thus giving me a "clean slate" from which to try again
I sincerely hope this issue is being taken seriously, as from my various net wanderings it looks like many people are having connectivity issues with Ovi Suite.  FWIW, I get the impression that the common factor is Windows 7 x64.
As people have mentioned previously, Ovi Suite is a big let-down at the moment.  I really like my N8, but the longer I am without calendar sync, the bigger a problem this is going to become.
Thanks mahayv for helping out so far - I really hope we can get to the bottom of this.

  • Ovi Suite Error 83860071 syncing calendar from Out...

I am currently attempting to sync the calendar from Outlook 2010 to my Nokia 6220C using Ovi Suite v2.2.0.245.
I receive the error 83860071 when attempting to do this. Originally I was receiving the alert that there was no default mail client installed, until I changed the settings for Outlook and set it to be the default client for all e-mail settings (it was already the default for each individual option, but the overall setting was not selected).
Since making this single change I now get the above error code. I am however able to successfully sync my contacts, and always have been able to do so.
Of note, the machine is Win7 Enterprise x64, with Office 2010 x64 installed. I previously had Office 2007 (x86) installed which Ovi worked perfectly with, but as Office 2010 x64 cannot co-exist with an x86 version of office, I had to uninstall Office 2007 first before installing Office 2010 x64..
Any suggestions / help would be appreciated.

  • Nokis Ovi suite, unable to sync. contacts

I have deleted my Nokia PC suite and I have installed Nokia Ovi suite. I have connected my new phone; 5530 which Ovi suite has accepted but when I sync using the usb cable I can't see that my contacts have been copies to Ovi, if they have I can't find them.
Do contacts copy to the Ovi suite or only over the air to Ovi?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear cricfancy,
I also do the same as you PIM data with PC suite and multimedia with OVI both the latest versions. The reason is that I wish to sync PIM with my work computer which syncs to an exchange server and I want to keep my multimedia on my private PC (I also like the archive of my SMS). The problem is that at some point (unfortunately I don't know exactly what I have done - I have posted previously on this but no replies) my multimedia has stopped syncing to OVI. The USB and bluetooth connections to OVI suite are succesful but OVI does not see the new pictures and SMS that are not synced. Sync is successful but it reports that there were no transfers.
I have looked at the SYNC settings on my N85 and with the PC Suite profile I can see that the PIM data has synched successfully but the multimedia, text messages, media options are not ticked. These I have tried ticking and then re-synching but no success. I have looked in the options for these and most of them show the database on the phone, but the field for the Remote databases "must be defined". I have tried looking in the help and around the net for these settings. Do you knoe where I can find the default settings for OVI and PC suites? Does one need two sync profiles, one for OVIsuite and one for PC suite. I can see that I have one for Nokia Maps.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated as this has been driving me bonkers for months now knowing that I don't have a browsable archive of my multimedia on my pc - of course i take regular backups.
    cheers
    jake
PS: sorry for continuing this slightly off topic thread here - but your post is the closest I have seen to solving my problem.

  • Ovi suite can't sync with Lotus Notes, as PC Suite...

I have read somewhere that at the end, OVI suite will replace PC Suite.
I have uinstalleed  PC suite and put OVI Suite and I cannot see a way to sync with my mail application (Lotus Notes 8.x)?
This was possible with PC Suite. Is this possible with OVI Suite, or do I need to keep both (OVI suite and PC Suite) installed ?
KIn that Case, PC Suite should continue its life supporting Lotus Notes mail ... ?
    Thank you !

I would like to ask NOKIA if there will be any advance in support of Lotus Notes synchronization with Nokia OVI ?
Normally new version means better functionality not less.
For lot of users is enough to synchronize calendar one a day without Internet connection, locally using USB or Bluetooth.
Could NOKIA inform their users ( I support about 100) that NOKIA will not support it?
Should we find out another brand of mobiles to have functionality we need and we were used to have?
Thank you very much for your info

  • Ovi suite can't sync, n97 crash

2 hard resets later I've still not been able to connect to Nokia's all singing all dancing Ovi suite with n97.  Well, I can connect it seems but whenever I try to sync anything through it either the Ovi SUite software tells me I have no hone connected & is "unable to read tracks" or the handset restarts itself.
Come on Nokia, this handset/software is meant to be a competitor to iphone/itunes.  Well it ain't.  Never had problems like this with iphone, ever since day one it has worked as it was meant to.  Why can't nokia software be the same I wonder....
Please help to resolve this problem.

  • Ovi Suite won't sync old N82 messages to my new X6

Using the latest Ovi suite (updated through updates, not sure v number though)
I received an X6 today. Seems pretty nice so far.
However, had some issues transferring text messages between phones - it broke the dates on the MMS and left me with a bit of a messy inbox on my X6.
So, I synced messages using Ovi suite from my old N82, and they all copied onto my PC fine.
However, if I now connect my X6 to my PC and hit sync messages, it just says 'done', and doesn't copy my messages from my PC to my X6.
Is there any way to do this? I'd like to keep all my old texts from my N82 and transfer them to my X6.

    Hey,

So, I synced messages using Ovi suite from my old N82, and they all copied onto my PC fine.
Are you talking about MMS also or only SMS?  I'm bit confused, if its related to MMS too, NOS does not support MMS.
If its related to text messages, then same has to be checkd

  • Ovi suite won't sync with N82

Hi, hoping someone can help here.
I've never been able to sync my photos etc between my N82 (V20.0.062) with ovi Suite.  PC Suite works just fine, it syncs my calender, photos & videos etc without any issues at all but not Ovi.  Am I missing something?  I really want to use the new features in Photos such as the timeline etc but it just won't let me darn it!
Thanks for reading this, please help!
    Ozzy

    Hi,
The firmware is V20.0.062 & it's the latest version of Ovi suite downloaded yesterday.  It recognises the phone as it shows me what photos are in my phone's gallery, it just won't sync.   Doesn't even think about it, just straight away pops up with sync cancelled.  Soooooo frustrating.
Is it because it's not the V3.0 firmware do you think?  I'm loathe to update as my phone is working just fine and these things never go smoothly when there's lots of third party apps involved....

  • Ovi Suite does not sync my N78

Ovi Suite connects without any problems via BT or Cable to my N78.
Clicking the sync button in Ovi Suite leads to a window, which shows the options for calendar and multimedia Sync. But I can't check the buttons for sync and I always have to cancel the window.
So I tried to check the sync options in the sync menue. There's a Button to set the different data to sync. Clicking this, I get a pop-up, which says there is no connection to the mobile. But Ovi Suite indicates a connection.
Whats wrong? The stand-alone PC Sync application works at least for calendar data. But I can't sync my photos with Nokia Photos application.
Since November last year, I've tried some new versions of Ovi Suite. A hardreset and the firmware 21.xxx also don't work. I am out of ideas.
    Can you help me?

    Hi patfin,
I have updated the firmware of Nokia n 78 to the latest as per NSU, after update my firmware, i tried to connect the device with Nokia Photos, but for the few times it gave some error, updating NOkia device view on the Nokia photos and it (Nokia Photos) encountered some problem
So what i did was, i switched off the phone, removed the battery and inserted the battery and switched on the device. Close the Nokia Photos and Open Nokia Photos again.
Now connect your device with Nokia Photos and sync.  Hope it will work

  • Ovi suite hanging on winxp64

    hello,
My ovi software hangs 3.0.0.284 when I USB connect my X3 nokia to the PC winxp64
All I want is to download maps to my mobile,
    Help is appreciated,

    Thank you for your feedback.
Could you please provide more information on this?
    1. System and device Information
    2. Logs
Here are the instructions for attaching log files:
    - Open Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.290
    - Enable log gathering by double-clicking the enable_logs.js file in installation folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite
    - Click the button to start enabling the logs when prompted by the dialogue
    - Click the button to confirm the "Logs are enabled" dialogue
    - Exit Nokia Ovi Suite from File - Exit. This is mandatory! Closing NOS to system tray is not enough!
    - Open Nokia Ovi Suite again
    - Try to reproduce the error you are reporting
    - If the error still exists, double click the collect_logs.js file in installation folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite
    - Click the button to start collecting the logs when prompted by the dialogue
    - Click the button to confirm the "Logs collect & zip finished" dialogue
    - Attach the NOS2_logs.zip file in C:\Temp\NOS2 folder and screenshots in the error reporting form
    - Go to your %TEMP% folder, which can be found by entering %TEMP% to the Windows Explorer's address bar. Then search debug_log_date.txt in this folder, where date is the current date (or choose the latest one) and attach also this file in the error reporting form. The exact %TEMP% folder paths are:
    In XP: C:\Documents and settings\your_username\LocalSettings\Temp\
In Vista and Windows 7: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Temp\
    - Disable log gathering by double-clicking the disable_logs.js file in installation folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite
    - Click the button to start disabling the logs when prompted by the dialogue
    - Click the button to confirm the "Logs are disabled" dialogue
If you get a crash, please provide us the crash dump
    In XP:
On application crash, you'll see the dialog asking whether you want to Debug or Close. Don't do either. Closing the dialog destroys the dump file before you have a chance to copy it.
    - Click the "For more information about this error, click here" link in the crash dialog, and copy the "Error signature" contents. The relevant content can be selected with mouse, and copied. Paste the text to the report.
    - Find the minidump file (usually C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Temp\???.dmp). If there are multiple .dmp files, check the modification time the find the one that was created at the same time the application crashed.
    - Start Task Manager and end process "dwwin.exe". The dump file is locked by this process.
    - You can now zip and attach the dump file in next question but the maximum size of one file is 50 MB. If the size is larger you can upload the file on any file upload server and write the link in the text box below.
    In Vista and Windows 7:
    - Expand the "View problem details" in the crash dialog and copy the contents
    - Open Task manager and find NokiaOviSuite.exe from the Processes list
    - Right click over NokiaOviSuite.exe and select Create Dump File.
    - You can now zip and attach the dump file in next question but the maximum size of one file is 50 MB. If the size is larger you can upload the file on any file upload server and write the link in the text box below.
You can send these log files, system information details to [email protected] mailbox

  • OVI Suite STILL cannot sync to a network drive

What is the point of having a support forum when everything gets ignored!
What is the point of having a feedback system when it all gets ignored!
I tried to select a network drive to sync photos and videos to but it wouldn't let me! I google it only to find that in this same forum, the question has been asked and AN EMPLOYEE from Nokia suggested they'll add it. This was over 10 months ago and still in this new version, nothing has been done on that front!! I still cannot select a network drive to sync photos and videos! I can't sync to the local drive cause frankly, the space available on the N8 is more than on the local drive!!
For how long will you go on ignoring us like this???
I have been a passionate defender of Nokia since 2001 till literally 5mins ago when after downloading the new OVI suite, a simple task like syncing contacts crashes OVI time and time again.
I can't select a network drive to sync to, all my support posts for the N8 have so far been ignored!!
Do you guys actually have any software testers in the company?? Why is it that anything to do with software, you get it so horribly wrong. Whoever is running that bit of the company needs to be fired and new brains brought into the mix!
I love Nokia as a company as they're full of ideas and potential but the software guys will spell doom for you! If something so simple like syncing contacts can be missed and the software is allowed to be released to the public with that very obvious bug!! Can't you just have it so things JUST WORK?!?!
My N8 is riddled with very simple and obvious bugs that I don't know how it passed. e.g screensaver not coming on when you lock the phone - you have no idea how annoying this bug is. Also for some reason, all my widgets are now about 20% bigger meaning the contents don't fit within the confines of the widget space and information is cut off!!
I am so **bleep** with the whole company right now I'm on the brink of just throwing it all away and saying goodbye to Nokia for ever!
But fortunately, my hatred for Steve Jobs is even more and can't be bothered with Android!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SORT ALL THIS NIGGLING THINGS OUT!!!

you can find the path in the windows registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite\{D995DE8A-1556-45a3-BC7A-568E63663F25}\PcPath]
or just search the registry for the path shown in the 'Photos folder location' shown in the ovi suite.
or search the registry for the value 'photos path'

  • OVI Suite does NOT sync music on the E72

    Hello all,
I have OVI suite on Windows 7 and trying to sync my music.OVI suite sees all my music (in the iTunes music folder), but when trying to sync it simply stays in the "preparing sync" status forever. I left it running the whole night long and nothing happened.
    Someone has a solution/workaround?
The most ridiculous aspect of this story is that the music sync works great from iTunes with iTunes agent!!!! This is absurd! A software from Apple, fooled by an open source middleware tool works better than a native super-fancy-advanced sync app!
Why in the hell does Nokia do this kind of things? At first a bugged 400 euros phone (the E72 was not exactly a rock), then a bugged sync suite (PC suite works great, but it's going to be dismissed), what's happening there?I'm really starting to be disgusted about Nokia's way of "upgrading" products.
Ah, forgot something: when do your genius programmers at Nokia plan to implement a "stop sync" or "cancel sync" button? My OVI suite is stuck on music sync and I cannot even access the "options" menu to change settings. You make VERY funny products, BTW
Message Edited by glauco_b on 24-Jan-2010 09:27 AM

    Agree.
You can spend hours lookimg at the program wondering what it is doing, and most of the time it is doing nothing, when you thougth you had started an application.
Please give us a time estmate for the sync/function that is running.

  • OVI Suite Doesn't Sync Car Phone and Pager Fields

    Hi,
I'm very very disappointed with this new suite, but I had to start using it as Nokia PC Suite doesn't work with x64 version of Windows.
Now, I'm facing this annoying issue. Fields such as "Car Phone" or Pager never get synchronized to my E90 device. Even when I'm creating a new entry on the device it doesn't sync to my OVI or Outlook!!
It looks like if the OVI suite doesn't recognized these fields at all!!!!!!
    Any suggestions?????

This is OVI and Nokia style of ignorance. I have sent them several request last months, no reply at all.
They don't batter about this issue at all. I have the same problem on my N8 and from what  I can see, Nokia has forgotten to implement Carphone in Nokia Suite, which I expect to be an easy task for them to solve.
Where is a responsible Nokia manager?

  • Nokia Ovi Suite doesn't sync music anymore

    Hi,
A while ago, finally I could sync music to my Nokia N900 with Nokia Ovi Suite. But now, he doesn't sync anymore.
Any ideas how to sync music on my mobile now?
    Greetings Niels

i dont understand why people are still trying to "sync" music on this device.
it does not require any conversion and plays almost all the different formats that music is in.
just connect in mass storage mode and click-n-drag the items to your audo/sounds folder on your n900.
90+% of all the music is in mp3 anyway.
