Ovi Suite Install location

Hi,
By default Ovi Suite doesn't prompt for installation folder, how can i instruct the installer to install in a specific location? (e.g., on secondary hard disk, etc)
I am using Win7 x64.
Thanks,

  • Ovi Suite install error

For some reason Ovi Suite on my PC (runnning Windows 7) got corrupted and I couldn't repair it, so I downloaded the Ovi Suite installer and tried to install it, and the installation failed with a message
"There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A program required for this install could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

the problem is a Windows error, which involves a number of steps to fix
This is what finally resolved the problem:
    1. Download and install 7-Zip application (or other Zip app)
    2. Use 7-Zip to extract the contents of NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup_en.exe into a folder on your computer.
    3. Inside that folder, locate the file Packages\NokiaSoftwareUpdater\Setup\NokiaSoftwareUpdater.msi
    4. Double-click on that file to start the installation.
If the issue is still present, please try the following steps:
    1. Make sure you have administrator rights on the machine
    2. Open Registry (Start->Run->type regedit in Open field and click Ok)
    3. Take a back up of the registry (Highlight My computer->File->Export)
    4. Navigate to HK_CURRENT_USER\Software/PCSuite and delete the complete folder
    5. Navigate to HK_CURRENT_USER\Software/Nokia and delete the complete folder
    6. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/PCSuite and delete the complete folder
    7. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Nokia and delete the complete folder
    8. Uninstall Nokia PC Suite
    9. In Windows navigate to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
    10. Uninstall Nokia Connectivity Cable driver
    11. Delete the following folders:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\PC Suite\ConfServer

  • Ovi Suite install problems..

Hey ATN NOKIA CODERS! All I am trying to do is browse my backed up .nbu files but its getting silly, I shoot video clips on latest firmware and boy the camera startup is much faster I voice record wavs on my N95 and I have just tried NOKI a nice free to try app for doing just this, but no thumbnail pics of the videos and cant drag them onto say Media Player Classic or Double click to run the chosen video or wav file soo!
I have just downloaded the longwinded and large install called Ovi Suite, Microsoft Windows Media Center Failed to load error with server timeout.. great start! not! everything else installed except for oh Ovi Suite! so after its done installing Nokia Music and Photo Gallery (which wasnt as painful as installing microsofts Photo Gallery!) I hit the Synch button and crossed my fingers but when it got upto 33 images out of 197 and it died trying to transfer the videos as they showed no Preview thumbnails just blank ones and it crashed haha. in fairness I need to reboot. but I tried to run the Ovi install again to have a go at re-trying the missing errored timed out apps, but it did not show the Windows Media update or the Ovi Guide Install that failed to install, going into C:\windows\programfiles\Nokia folder I am able to sart Nokia Photo Gallery and Music and tried to goto Nokia Music site as i make music and want to submit my own tracks to sell but even that errored with server errors. try again later. will report more later, happy new year!

Ok Ovi Suites "Photo Gallery" is a pile of over inflated nonsense!!146MBs!?? I gave it a fair go and i have maxed out my ram so when I say starting Photo Gallery was slow and very painful it was very slow and very painful. The Green Ovi flash screen did not disapear for about 3 minutes. I have less than 100 pics and about 10 videos so nothing scary to deal with. Dosnt work half as well as Nokia Video Manager in PC Suite 7.1 so credit is due to Video Manager. Nokia Photo Gallery has been Uninstalled. and Nokia Music for the same reasons, it crashed trying to link to its music shop, not good. it's only at 1.1 so theres time and room for improvement so I will keep an eye on it. I now use freeware "Irfan View" free app off www.filehippo.com 1.48mbs! not 146MBs. With Irfan View installed it simply does a great job of displaying picks and videos in a thumbnail style that is very customisable so I can have black frames with black backgrounds. Videos can be dragged into Media Player Classic. Perfect simple and small in size and well coded, starts instantly. PC Suite 7.1 is great for browsing vides but NOT from .nbu's if it could it would be perfect. It's the best all rounder from Nokia yet and theres always "Noki" for browsing .nbu files.

  • Nokia Ovi suite instalation crashes

hi, I have a same problem with the ovi suite.
I can install everything but the Nokia Music software, i just bought a 5800 and I cant access nokia store or sync my music with the computer.
I installed the software that came with the CD at first, then I unistalled everything and downloaded a newer version from nokia site, but the problem still remained. I even tried to install the sofware with compatibility of Windows XP SP2.
The problem is: Nokia music (or Ovi ) called the wrog c++ library, after this error message the instalation crashes and nothing works. I have Vista Home Premiun 64Bit .
If i plug the USB cable I can use nokia PC Suite and access my phone memory.
However I cannot use the nokia store.
    Please help.

    Hi,
My regular/initial reply to all of sort of this issues :
Do have backup of your phone data & PC registries then
Uninstall Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Connectivity cable driver, PC Connectivity solution, Nokia flashing cable driver(if any on your PC), Run PC Suite cleaner. Install latest Nokia PC Suite from europe.nokia.com/pcsuite, reboot your pc.  Once pc started, connect your phone with USB in different ports of your PC and check
If you want to install OVI Suite, kindly do check in google, as last few days ovi suite's site was in maintance ....Make sure that your pc is away from all unwanted pc registries, then after installation of pc suite reboot and check.

  • How to install ovi suite to a drive other than C:?...

how to install ovi suite to a drive other than c:??? my c: drive is almost full with other partitions perfectly free to install it, how do i do that? can i use previous versions of ovi suite to use with my e63? at this point, i'm unable to use ovi suite at all, because there's no room to install it on my c: drive.
allllllllso there's one more thing, when i originally had tried installing ovi suite on my computer i had more than 1gb free. after installing it i on'ly had 500mb free. i had only intended for it to use a very small amount of space, and since i also use my c: drive for virtual memory i quickly uninstalled it, looking for an option i'd maybe skipped over while installing it the first time. no luck. anyways, when i looked in the add/remove programs control panel the installed size of ovi suite was only 40-50mb. even after uninstalling ovi suite the extra memory space that seemed to all of a sudden taken up by the installation stayed used.
when looking at the file sizes of everything on my hard drive, (including system files and paging file) there is still a descreprency between the amount of memory used and the size of all files total on the drive. at this point im quite disgusted and disapointed in ovi suite as i'm mostly unable to use it to connect my phone to my computer and i'm also having problems with the CA101 cable as well. i guess i'll have to go check for another cable.
nokia!!! wake up and fix yo **bleep**!!!!
anyone have any solutions for the main problem? (installing to a drive other than c? is there support for this option in any of the new beta versions? can that be included in the newest betas? i'm suuuuuure i'm not the only one begging for this option!!!

Hi ostrenga4, sorry to hear about your experiences.
When installing Nokia Ovi Suite to PC, Windows makes "system restoration points", which are available to restore operating system to previous condition, if something goes wrong, for example in driver installation.
You can change install location of Nokia Ovi Suite with following:
    - Download Nokia Ovi Suite install package from Nokia Ovi Suite pages
    - Start Windows Command prompt
    - From Command prompt, navigate to folder containing Nokia Ovi Suite install package, which you downloaded
    - Start Nokia Ovi Suite install package with command line "Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller.exe /TARGET="D:\TestDir\Test"
    - This results, that Nokia Ovi Suite installer creates folder D:\TestDir\Test (if that doesn't exist) and installs Nokia Ovi Suite there.
    - Unfortunately, Windows Installer still keeps installer cache files and system restoration points in C: drive (or whatever your system drive is)
As you can see, this is possible, but it is very much recommend to have enough space for installing software into system drive.
    Cheers, Samuli

How to install Ovi Suite to the D drive?
The installer does not offer any options. -SS.
My C drive is full and there is not enough space for the humoungous Ovi suite. As a matter of my personal policy, I never install any application to my C drive. I have created a separate D partition expressly for installing applications.

  • Installing OVI suite give a lot of warnings

    Hi,
Why is OVI suite installing so much of extra filters/programs/registry keys?
My virusscanner is totally getting postal with valid/correct warnings when installing.
It is annoying that so much has to be installed in 'senstive' locations of my computer. Can the installation be made more independant? Especially those RPCcontrol and hklm keys are annoying, because it breaks in my kernel. And the programms/services that remain active in the memory are too much. All these addition are making my system more vulnerable.
And I would like to be more supportive to 'offline usage' of the N97 mini.
    Thanks in advance.

The certificates that you see in Tools > Options > Advanced > Encryption: Certificates > View Certificates : Authorities are the build-in root certificates that are used to verify certificates send by websites. It is OK to leave them there.

  • Ovi Suite + 5230 USB not working

    Preamble:
I recently connected my Nokia 5230 mobile phone to my PC via USB connection and loaded up Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23). Everything worked lovely. But alas! Both an Ovi suite update was available, as well as a update for the phone itself! So I downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.0.0.284).
Unfortunately, now Ovi Suite does not detect when I select "PC Suite" USB mode (selected on the phone screen). This essentially makes Ovi Suite useless.
So I followed some advice on other discussion pages (more on that later) and reinstalled the Ovi Suite. The problem persisted.
Here are some pictures to help you understand my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/5IknF.jpg
The computer is able detect the phone is connected via USB. I can even browse the contents of the phone memory and memory card. Upon detecting the connected phone, and me pressing 'PC Suite' on the phone screen, it will show this:
    http://i.imgur.com/lV0rs.jpg
I cannot progress past this screen. The Ovi Suite simply does not recognise that I've selected that option on the phone.
    Defense:
I know what your thinking. "Just another USB thread". Well, I did in fact read plenty of threads on this forum before posting, and have spent the last few hours uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and drivers in various ways (as suggested in those threads), with no success.
The following is a list of forum threads which I have read and tried all the solutions found in each, and I have copied the solutions (which appear to have worked for other people), for your convenience:
    /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/Ovi-Suite-PC-Suite-USB-Connection-Problem/td-p/682828
Solutions which did not work for me:
Could you please follow these steps and check?
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
    1. Uninstall all nokia related applications like Ovisuite, pc suite, connectivity cable driver,pc connectivity solutions, nokia software updater etc. from ur PC.
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Now download and install the recent ovisuite from http://www.ovi.com/suite
    4. After installation, disconnect/disable your internet connection (this will make sure that the PC use the drivers which comes with ovisuite and  prevent the PC from downloading any new drivers from internet) and then connect your mobile and wait for drivers and support software installation.
    5. After drivers installation you can connect your mobile to ovisuite from ovisuite screen.

    Hi GannonC,
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs.

Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.

After OVi Suite installation, restart your PC, disconnect your internet from PC and connect your mobile to the PC. This is to prevent the PC searching for a new drivers from internet. OVi suite has all the required drivers for all the nokia phones available in market.
Once all the required drivers are installed automatically, you try connecting the mobile by selecting 'Connect your device' from the bottom left on the OVi suite screen. You should be able to connect your device now.
After connecting you can go ahead and update your maps/ download new country maps.
NOTE: before updating your maps/ download new country maps, you should have used your maps in you mobile atleast once.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
You can connect back your internet anytime after the drivers installation.

    Zship's revelations:
So this is not really a problem for me. I have the working, older (2.2.1.23) version of Ovi Suite installed on my netbook, and sure enough, it works fine, I just tried it. I wont be updating Ovi Suite on it though. I also could probably just download the update via 3.5G using just the phone itself, but the problem remains that a simple software update has caused a critical connectivity problem between your software and hardware. Given that many Nokia customers would have less technical know-how than say, myself or anyone else on this forum, this problem is a quite likely a huge inconvenience to them, they probably wouldn't visit these discussions and spend 5 hours reinstalling software like I just did, and they surely would be thinking twice before purchasing another Nokia device in the future.
tl;dr - Nokia recommended update breaks connectivity between software and device, various attempts to fix seemingly simple problem don't work.

SAME PROBLEM. And none of the many suggested solutions has worked for me yet. I want to thank all on this thread (and many others) for their help. I've learned a lot but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. I think maybe Nokia needs to ... uh ... bloody well BOTHER TO FIX THIS ISSUE themselves, maybe. Like, cuz they're PAID FOR IT and I'M NOT. Harrumph.
I run Windows XP, and was on Media Player 11, but have rolled back to 9 and 10. I have a Nokia E 72. I have all the latest Nokia cable-drivers, PC Suite, OVI Suite, Connectivity software, etc.. The symptoms are as follows: when I plug in the phone by USB cable, the laptop won't recognize it. It says "USB device faulty" or "failed to load properly" and refuses to get the hardware into its brain. The Device Manager shows only a "Unknown Device" which I cannot install drivers onto. Taking the extra media-card out of the phone doesn't make any difference -- nothing I've done will make the computer recognize the main (built-in) card in the phone. I can't browse to it via any sort of populate / repopulate disk drive, or any other method of connecting it.
As I understand it, this is some conflict with the phone and the new concept of MTP. Media Transfer Protocol confuses the computer, causing it to kind-of think that the phone is kind-of a media player, when in fact it's a whole lot more. So, the "parent" doesn't get loaded, then the rest of the phone doesn't get loaded, then it kind-of tries to load some MTP but fails, etc.. If I could browse to the phone through a non-Nokia connection I'd be happy to do so in order to implement any of a number of the suggestions above. But I can't get the computer to recognize the phone when the phone is plugged in by USB, regardless of all the solutions above.
The problem began a few days ago. It just up and wouldn't recognize the phone. I hadn't installed any updates that I knew of on either item, but it's possible that my memory is faulty and a newer version of this or that snuck in there and screwed it all up. I have tried a serious roll-back to a Restore Point about six weeks old, but that didn't solve the problem. This suggests to me that the problem is phone-resident, since the rollback was to a computer-based Restore Point and I don't have phone rollback capability.
This seriously hampers me. PC Suite, OVI, and some future version of Nokia Suite, will all be useless to me unless Nokia accomplishes the stunning act of supporting their software. I won't hold my breath. Just in general, you'd think that plug-and-play of a phone into your computer would be a lot simpler. Just take the cord -- stick it in the phone; stick it in the computer -- and shazam, you're plugged in. But NOOOOOO we're on NOOOOOOKIA ... Now I know why Microsoft wanted to buy them so badly. They knew they'd all get along and have the same assumptions about software -- that it doesn't really matter whether it works reliably on a user's computer at his home, as long as it works in theory on some programmer's ideal personal computer in Seattle once in a rare while. Nokia? Meet Microsoft. Microsoft? You and Nokia will get along juuuust fiiiine ...

  • Why this difference between OTA and Ovi suite upda...

I have a doubt about the recent Anna update that was available for S ^3 phones.I updated my C6-01 thru OTA and the size of the update was 26MB. Including the other additional 4 updates the total update size was around 80 to 90 MB. But on Ovi suite or NSU the update was reported to be around 270MB by the users here. Why this huge difference between the two methods of update? So does that mean there is any difference between updating via OTA and PC?
In Love With My C6-01:Now running on Nokia Belle!

The difference is Ovi suite install is like installation from a clean slate. It installs everything from top to bottom as a fresh installation. But via OTA, the installation does an install of only the files that need to be updated or additionally installed for the fresh OS. So only the big difference in size. So in reality both the methods are more or less the same...

  • OVI Suite knocking my computer out

    Hi there!

    Problems:
First of all it's not possible to have OVI Suite in my auto-start since all other programs stom responding after being loaded.
When removing OVI Suite I can start my computer and do whatever I want. But when I start OVI Suite manually I can do everything until it tries to log in into the server. From that point on OVI Suite does not respond anymore. Further, all other programs are crashed as well, i.e. firefox does not load new data, other programs can not be started anymore, etc... Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be,
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Nussi

I've got the same problems with Ovi Suite (the actual download) and my Vista-64-PC. Whith Ovi Suite installed and the system freshly started , Ovi tells me that it cannot connect to the internet (although the pc is already connected to the net by lan) and hangs. And even without starting OVI, just after having it installed, some other programs which normally cause no trouble (e.g. Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice ...)  cannot be used any more. If I try to start them, nothing seems to happen, but the Task Manager shows that they are running as process but not as application.
Nokia PC Suite on the other side causes no problems. Seems to be a big bug of Ovi Suite. Anyone from Nokia reading this support ciscussion?

  • OVI Suite not connecting to map server

After installing the latest NOKIA software updater, the OVI Suite is not connecting  to the map server. It stays: "Wait while retreiving the available maps..." for ever. I unistalled the updater, but the problem is still there. Any ideas to solve this?

Same problem with my Nokia X6 - "The connection to the Ovi Maps timed out". Now I have no maps
Nokia, give us the old version of Ovi Suite - this one is a piece of **bleep**. I tested on 3 different computers and the problem appeared on each of them regardless that 1 of the computers was with Ovi Suite and PC Suite already installed, the other had only Ovi Suite installed and the third had nothing of the above installed.
