OVi Suite is destroying OUTLOOK phone number form...

I have formatted my Outlook phone numbers the standard way +49 (yyy)xxxx. With Ovi Suite sync of contacts, the brackets are now removed from the phone. Since you cannot specify the sync direction the reformatted phone numbers are soon or later ending up in Outlook. The issue: I don't know which part of the number is area code and what is the number.  I had to retype all my 250 numbers using a 10 year old printout. This is not acceptable.
My OVI Suite is the current and called now Nokia Suite.
Best is to remove that stupid filter or allow for synch direction in OVI Suite.
Is there a solution that I have overlooked or do I have to install the old PC Suite in addition for syncing contacts?
I cannot not live with this issue.
Best regards
Michael

Hi Hunchback,
why can't we just have a software switch or sync by directions as in PC Suite? As I said even when I do not touch my contacts in the phone I have all Outlook contact formatting removed . I have definitely not touched all contacts in the phone. I assume it happend when you reload backups on the notebook, reinstall Ovi Suite and then synch.
All my phones E72, N82, E61I and N8 can live with formatting.
Best regards
Michael

Ovi locks up a minute or two after connecting the phone, always.
Cannot do a backup.  Cannot do Outlook synchronization.
Initially it worked for a while.
How do you reset synchronization to start over?
What Ovi Suite files do you delete on the phone to do a synchronization reset?
To use maps properly, you need Ovi Suite.
    Configuration Details:
    XP SP3, 1GB of memory
    Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Model: 5800d-1b RM-428
    Ovi Suite Now Uninstalled: V2.2.0.241
PC Connectivity Solution Now Uninstalled: 10.24.0.0
With Firmware: V40.2.005 was able to download maps.
After updating to firmware to:  V50.2.005 phone connection crashes began.
    Phone itself is working ok.
    My solution:
Remove Ovi Suite & all traces of Nokia on PC.
    Install PC Suite.
    Now sync'ing works fine.
    Notes:
    * All other devices work fine on same USB connection.
    * Rebooting makes no difference.

    - Find the minidump file (probably C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp\???.DMP) . If there are multiple .DMP files, check the modification time the find the one that was created at the same time the application crashed.
    - Start Task Manager and kill process "dwwin.exe", the dump file is locked by this process.
-The dump file can now be copied.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7
    - On application crash, you'll see the dialog suggesting "Check online for a solution and close the program" AND "close the program". Do not click either yet! Leave that pop up open.
    - Open Task Manager (e.g. press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC simultaneously).
    - Find NokiaOviSuite.exe from the processes list in Task Manager.
    - Right click NokiaOviSuite.exe and select Create Dump File.
    - When the dump is ready, a dialog opens and tells where the dump was stored.
    - Also expand the crash popup dialog window's "View problem details" and copy the contents to this email.

  • Nokia 6303 /ovi suite contacts in outlook sync pro...

    Hi
I am using ms outlook on windows xp and ovi suite.  The problem is that not all the information from outllok is passed to the phone.  Some addresses are left out and sometimes other info such as phone numbers or email address don't sync.  Some contacts are fine and there doesn't seem to be any consistancy to the problem.  Any ideas anyone.
    Regards

I have N97 Mini and a lot of problems.Actually I wouldn't called it problems because there is no solution ever post by NOKIA support. This is really a nightmare that NOKIA COMPANY sold to the buyers along with phones we bought .I have 10 years of experience with NOKIA devices all of the models including the first Symbian 6600.Now the whole month I spent every day trying to handle this **bleep** od device and the biggest **bleep** OVI suite searching on hundreds of sites and forums but everywhere the same only bad no solution and NOKIA just giving new versions that means nothing for solving problems.
So XP Pro OS when i try to sync contacts  the most of the contacts I do but about 33 contacts reports Sync conflict and i have notes that those contacts has a photo of people next to number.
Also well known problem is with music, videos and photos. I have music stored in mass storage and what ever i tried i cannot reproduce the music from the device.I made playlists,library,...
The next thing I'll do, I will turn on my camera and say what I think of new NOKIA and OVI suite than I will throw N97 Mini hard on the floor and madly wade over device while it becomes a pile of  trash what is the real description of new generation touch screen and new OVI suite any version!

  • SMS and Outlook Phone Number Extenstion

I don't know if this is a N95 or a PC Suite problem.
I have used different computers, PC Suite versions and N95 firmware versions to test this.
I create a contact in Outlook and add a phone number.
    For examle:
    Country: Germany
    Area Code: 123
    Phone Number: 4567
    Extension: 89
    This is shown as +49 (123) 4567 x 89 in Outlook and
    this is synced as +49 (123) 4567 x 89 to my N95.
I like the x so I can see the extension easily. But when I
try to write a SMS and select this contact and the phone
number, I always get "Invalid Contact details: ..."
Is this a problem with my N95 or with the PC Suite? I cannot
enter the "x" manually in my phone so I think this shouldn't
be synced. But it would be nice if I could enter it.
    Marc

I pretty much agree. I have an N95 and also use Outlook 2003. I sync using PC Suite (6.85.14.1). I'm pretty sure I did not have this problem with my previous phone (6680) but if I use the formatting for the phone numbers as provided by Outlook 2003, then they get synced to the N95 as something like +44 (07801) 123456. The N95 will not work with that number so I have to edit them before I can use them - tedious.
In fact, it is only necessary to delete the nought at the beginning of the area code, so +44 (7801) 123456, will work.
It would be very helpful if the N95 software could spot the international code and then ignore a following nought. Maybe that doesn't apply to all countries, but I guess it would help a lot of us!

  • E51 Outlook phone number Field.

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with my E51, when using PC Suite to sync with Outlook.
When a new contact is added via the phone, and then synced with PCSuite, the Phone Field entry in Outlook is set to Other, even though on the phone it's set to Telephone:
Is there any way to change what field name is used?
I have the latest firmware for my E51
    PC Suite is v7.0.7.0
    MS Outlook is 2007 SP1
    Thanks.

Just to confirm I am having the same problem (sorry not much help!). The 'Telephone' field in the E51 maps to 'Other Telephone' in Outlook 2007 and then 'disappears' when synched with my Revo. I have had to cut and paste the 'Telephone' field to the 'Telephone (home)' field on all my phone contacts and that has kept it under control.
If when adding a new contact in the E51, the default field was 'Telephone (home)' then I would be happy. It does not seem possible to change the entry default? At the moment it means having to remember to add this field every time I need to add a new contact's home phone number. The 'mobile' field works fine.

  • Warning: Ovi Suite Will Delete Outlook data

When syncing with Outlook, Ovi Suite will delete what you have in Outlook, if you delete it on the phone.
This happens even when you request no deletions to be done.
Recommendation:  Backup your Outlook PST file before sync'ing with Nokia.

    Success!!
Nokia Care came through for me!
    Pretty complex procedure though.
    Try this:
    1. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
    2. Go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel.
    3. Remove Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
        Remove Nokia Ovi Suite
        Remove PC Connectivity Solution
    4. Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner from
    http://www.nokia.dk/produktsupport/download-software/pc-suite/how-to/nokia-pc-suite-cleaner
    5. Reboot
    6. Download latest version of OVI Suite from
    http://www.nokia.dk/produktsupport/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite/compatibility-and-download
    7. Turn off you AntiVirus/Spyware and Firewall(Including Windows Firewall is enabled) software before you start the install of OVI Suite- very important!!
    8. Reboot after installation of OVi Suite
    9. Do not start OVI Suite yet after reboot!
    10. Make sure your AV Software/firewall is not turned on.
    11. Connect your phone using your USB cable.
    12. The drivers should install without any problems. Takes a minute or so.
    13. Start OVI Suite after Windows reports that the installation was succesful.
    Everything should work now

  • N95 8GB: Ovi Suite hosing/truncating Outlook Conta...

I am very angry at the moment. I have realised that Ovi Suite has hosed my Outlook data and I have already spent a whole day (and probably many more to come) trying to recover the data.
    These are the problems:
Outlook Calendar Note fields get truncated, not consistently that I could find either (e.g. at a certain character length). It did seem to have a problem with any linked/shortcut attachments in there though (but there were very few of them). I wouldn't mind if this was just on the phone but it has screwed up this data IN OUTLOOK, the MASTER COPY!!
Ditto with Calendar items and Task items too.
For recurring Calendar and Task items, it also seems to spawn individual items for what would be each occurrence (and synchs all these back to Outlook too). I haven't had the nerve to check yet whether it actually deletes the original occurrences too.
As many people have said, it obviously appears that Nokia are rushing out, untested, sub-standard software that isn't even building on previous builds. My old NSeries PC Suite had LifeBlog and everything and worked absolutely fine. What was key to me in NSeries PC Suite was that there was a dedicated setting to say which end was the master and/or the direction of the Synch (I can't remember now). For me, I just said NEVER synch back to Outlook. Synch from Outlook to the phone, no problem, but NOT the other way.
Why did I allow the upgrade to Ovi Suite? Well, that was inadvertant. I upgraded from XP to Windows 7x64 and so had to reinstall all my apps...and got lumbered with Ovi Suite. It initially looked OK but I have since found these rather major flaws. I don't give a hoot about Ovi not working perfectly but I would at least expect that it did not royally screw up another app's data (aka Outlook). No problem with it screwing up its own data as my Nokia data is (ideally) a slave from data from my PC...but now my Outlook looks like it has been subject to a revolution.
I have also searched online for a version of my NSeries PC Suite that I could download as my original CD version was from 2008 and auto-looks up online for updates...and just finds Ovi Suite!!
So, I think I know the answer to this, but has anyone else found the same problems and, ideally a solution? Ideally, apart from the solution to just use bog-standard PC Suite, I would like to get the latest version of NSeries PC Suite that was the current release just before Ovi came out...or to get Ovi to only synch the one way.
I would tell you what the firmware version on my N95 8GB was but I am loathe to hook it up again (even though I have turned all synch off). I think it was 20.[something].
    This is my Ovi setup:
    Nokia Ovi Suite 2.1.0.87
    Nokia Photos 1.0.239.0
    PC Connectivity Solution 10.5.1.0
    Connectivity Cable Driver 7.1.27.0
Nokia Ovi Suite Software Updater 2009.46.1.60264
    Maps Service API 3.0.38.0
    Nokia mPlatform 2.6.86
    Ovi Desktop Sync Engine 1.1.0.80

    Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Edition

    - Mozilla Firefox 3.6
    Detected Bluetooth stacks:
    - Microsoft (Version: 6.1.7600, Build: 16385)
As a final note, I have been using Nokia since 1998 or so but this has left such a nasty taste in my mouth that, yes, I am almost certain to abscond to App*e (even though there are similar but far less serious problems with their synch software).
I really hate to do this as I have managed to work around all the Nokia software problems to date without much fuss. Most, of course, DESPITE Nokia, but this (one fistful of hair) did this camel's back break.

  • Ovi Suite doesn't detect Phone

    Well I have N97
Used to have problem 'USB phone parent' driver couldnt be instaled - Just done PC suite cleaner and fixed that problem.
Now its installed driver wise, so 'My computer' sees N97, and phone says its in PC suite mode BUT
Ovi suite doesn't detect it. I tried 'add new device' it still didnt find it.
I can browse it fine through my computer.
And before you say - yes phone is in PC suite mode.
I also just did hard reset of phone

Please follow the steps provided below and check.
    Uninstall the following from add/remove
    - Nokia Ovi Suite
    - Nokia Connecting cable driver
    - PC Connectivity Solution
Then go to device manager ( Right Click My Computer-Manage) then ports- Uninstall all the ports which is by name nokia (
there might be multiple entries, but remove them), but please dont remove any other from there which might lead to
    malfunction.
    - go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\OviInstallerCache and remove all the sub folders inside that.
For windows vista and windows 7 it will be C:/Program Data/OviInstallerCache
    - Restart Computer
    - Download and install ovi suite
    - Restart computer
    - Then connnect the device and wait till all the drivers are downloaded.
    - Then launch Ovi Suite connect the device.
This has solved the issue in many cases.
    Hopefully this works.

    Dear members,
Im using Nokia 5230 and i tried connecting my phone with Nokia PC suite and Ovi suite. Im successful with PC suite and Im able to access everything. • E71 MS Outlook phone number format

How do I remove the leading zeros from numbers stored in Outlook when synching with E71? One problem is that Italy NEEDS a leading zero [i.e. +39 (0)nnnn nnnn]. Currently most numbers in Outlook are stored +nn (0)nnnn nnnnnn - but I have too many stored to do this manually. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your response. I'm not complaining about Outlook - what it does seems reasonable to me - but I was hoping for a solution to removing those leading zeros when synching with a mobile (where they get in the way of making a call).
Its possible to export to a csv file in Excel, then doing a variety of search and replace exercises, then upload again to Outlook (new folder), then synch (new folder) to the phone. BUT it's not the kind of job to do every week! Surely someone has done this commercially?
