Ovi Suite isn't minimised on Win XP startup

Hi,
I've just installed Ovi Suite (2.0.1.35) on to my system running XP. Unfortunately, every time my system starts up, Ovi Suite pops up, which is really annoying. Previous versions did not do this at startup. Does anybody know how this problem can be fixed? There's nothing obvious in the preferences.

Hi,
Do you have two complaints from your post?  Title read as
(1) Ovi Suite isn't minimised on Win XP startup
(2) I've just installed Ovi Suite (2.0.1.35) on to my system running XP. Unfortunately, every time my system starts up, Ovi Suite pops up, which is really annoying. For your title issue, you can give complete details about your PC
For your second issue,  Could you please check on Nokia OVI Suite 2.0, Tools > Options > General > Start up
Start Nokia Ovi Suite automatically when your computer starts up
If yes, and if you dont want it to start up automatically, unselect this option

  • Solution for Ovi Suite 3 connectivity issue on Win...

I tried searching web for solutions but in vain, so I found it in a way I never anticipated for Nokia software though I used it many times for other software)))
After much pain, there's a simple solution for those using at least Windows 7 (as I do).
After installing Ovi Suite, do not run it out of installer, but just finish it.
Right-click on Ovi Suite, choose Properties (bottom line), in the window that appeared chose Compatibility tab, there select Run this program in compatibility mode - Windows Xp Service Pack 2.
Then OK or Apply - anyhow, after applying these settings, launch Ovi Suite, choose Use bluetooth instead (my problem was that the 'installing bluetooth modem stage' was looong and resulted in failure and, thus, impossibility to connect. Even through 'shamanism' syncing didn't work).
REMARK! On Serching for bluetooth devices you may need to do Search again so that after selecting your phone, Next button became active -> then as by the book)
    Now works.
Nokia programmers don't know how to handle Windows 7 API properly???

    [SOLVED]
    My Solution:
    1) Backup contacts using PC Suite.
    2) Update firmware to v410 using PC Suite. Install my phone E66
    2) Uninstall K lite codec pack n remove all related registry.
    3) Import contacts back to my phone E66. Uninstall PC Suite and all nokia related drivers, registry n folders from computer. Phone driver also uninstall.
    4) Reboot. Install OVI Suite 2.1.1.1. Install E66
    5) Download n install K lite codec Full version 5.6.0. Set ffd show filter to open as many media files as possible. Set ffd show filter to open base on whitelist. Set ovi suite and nokiamserver.exe into ffd show filter blacklist.
This solved my problem 2 above. Hopefully its not a temporary fixed.
    6) In OVI suite select auto sync off for everything. Connect E66 to phone, wait for 10 to 15 mins. Backup function should work. Backup phone.
With this problem 1 above is solved.
Last but not least, use task manager to kill nokiamserver.exe process manually. After ovi suite is exited. Hopefully, nokia will set ovi suite to kill the process when ovi suite exits in the near future.
    7) Now you can add applications, configure your phone with your operator settings.
    Cheers.

  • Nokia OVI Suite 2 compatible with N900?

    Hello,
PC Suite (for win XP) prompts me to "upgrade" it to Nokia Ovi Suite 2.
PC Suite at the moment allows me to do some things with the N900, like automatically transferring pics and other files to my PC, while the current version of OVI suite isn't doing anything useful for me, it just slows down the whole System.
    My questions:
    1. If I install Ovi Suite 2, will it replace PC Suite, so that PC Suite-functionality will no longer be available?
    2. If PC Suite is replaced by Ovi Suite 2, is the new version less resource-hungry and, most importantly, does it work with my N900?
    thanks Ben

    Hi Ben,
Ovi Suite 2.2.241 does work with the N900, HOWEVER, it is still not a complete solution. It will synch contacts, calendar entries and tasks (if your client, e.g. Outlook, is supported). Features such as sending/synchronising messages is not supported, amongst other things.
    1. It can co-exist with PC Suite (I have it running alongside PC Suite 7.1) and no functionality has been lost with PC Suite. It will not prompt you to uninstall or replace any of the PC Suite components.
    2. Ovi Suite 2 is more resource hungry, probably in part due to the amount of eye candy in the new program (nice graphics, smooth transitiions....you get the drift).

  • Ovi suite makes us stupid

after hanging during install, it installed completely on the 3rd try.
when syncing photos it completes the sync, as in all pics and vids are copied, and then it says "Photos not synced. Please reconnect via bluetooth or usb cable."
software updates says "cannot find internet connection" . . . is it trying to use the phone's internet instead of using the pc internet then copying over (which will be many times faster)?
the help attempts to access C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Nokia/Nokia%20Ovi%20Suite/Help/Nokia_Ovi_Suite.htm#Photos\Sharing_photos.... in the help viewer, but it's either broken or 404 because it shows a blank page in the browser.
what was it that ovi suite supposed to do? i'm confused on the whole "install junk that doesn't work" thing.

  • Ovi suite 2.2.1.13 xp sp3 - stupid installer crash...

    installer crash (solved):
my downloads directory is a windows junction point mounting a partition. launching Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller_ALL.exe causes visual c++ runtime error before showing any dialog window. crash happens after de-UPXing and presumably unpacking the installer archive in the background.
this stupidity is solved by moving the installer into a non-junction directory on your filesystem and launching from there. this **bleep** cost me hours.

  • Apparent problem with Ovi Suite and Win 7 64 bit

    Hi
Apologies if this has already been covered, but i have searched quite thoroughly and i haven't come across the specific problem i'm querying.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, with PC Suite 7.1.51.0, which runs just fine.
I intend to upgrade to the superb N8 when my contract comes to an end in 6 months, so i'm just doing my homework.
Apparently, the N8 will only run on Ovi Suite, NOT PC Suite.
Now if anyone disputes this and can convince me that the N8 works perfectly fine with PC Suite, then read no further, please just respond!  (Bear in mind the OS i'm running though).
As nice as Ovi Suite is, i've managed just fine so far with PC Suite.
Otherwise, please let me explain the problem i am having:
I installed Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23.  When i run it, it shows the main screen, and you can just make out a small window appearing in the middle saying "Nokia OVI".
It is then that the program stops responding, eventually displaying the error message which reads:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\...
This appication has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the appication's support team for more information.
Judging by the similar stories of Ovi crashing (not finding one where the program fails to open, though), i think it is related to the fact that i'm running Win 7 64 bit; but i could be wrong.
I have tried installing it in compatibility mode, then (failing that), running it in compatibility mode, all to no avail.
Is this a problem that Nokia know about?  If there is an intended fix within 6 months, then that'll be fine.
Otherwise, do any of you clever people know any work-arounds?
Any further questions you need to ask, please don't hesitate.
    Many thanks

Pinpointing the problem may be very difficult as Ovi-Suite appears to be extremely unpredictable.and getting Ovi-suit tu run an sync properly seems to be largely a matter of luck.
I have just set-up three brand new identical HP workstations for our Geo-Information Department.
All were set up from the same disk image with only Win 7 Pro Office 2010, then directly Ovi-Suite as our Geo-Information guys insisted on Nokia handsets against our advice.
On one, machine Ovi-Suite crashed on launch and was unable to run at all.
on the second, Sync to OL 2010 failed consistently.
ont the third, everything ran fine with an N97 but an N8 was not recognized
So i got curious and run tests on one machine: I installed the same disk image a total of six times (clean win7-64, clean Office 2010 3 times, Office 2003 three times)
    Office 2010
the first time i had the crash on launch, second time OL2010 sync fail, third time it ran ok.
    Office 2003
First time notes sync failed, second and third time all was ok.
So the issue is definitely with Ovi-Suite and it appears to be pure luck whether is runs or not and if it runs at all, whether it syncs or not.
Syncing OL 2010 seems to be much trouble prone than OL2003, 64bit appears to be much less stable than 32, onb win 7 it seems to have slightly fewer issues than on XP.
We have NO issues with any other sync software (Palm, BB, Fruit, S-E, Microsoft, even Nokia PC-Suite).
None of the software is run with admin privileges (as we just do not give admin rights to users). If software requires admin rights to be installed, it is done by Data Center employees.
I'm afraid one's best bet to get Ovi-Suite running is trial and error, or if  the handset supports it, use PC-Suite, which is what we do.
Ovi-suite users, according to our logs, generate over 70% of our smart phone related support calls, even though they are only 6% of our smart phone user base.
As a result, we currently have all Nokia handsets that do not work with PC-Suite and require Ovi-Suite blacklisted in our organization, meaning we won't support them in any way. Installation of any flavor of Ovi-Suite is prohibited on user PCs as long as it does not become more stable, reliable and less of a resource hog.
Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said

  • Ovi Suite Minimise on start-up?

    Hi,
Is there a way to get Ovi Suite to minimise on start-up? Everytime my phone is in range of the computer (communicating via bluetooth), the full suite starts up... I don't want this, I just want it to stay minimised in the system tray.
    Help?
    Cheers,
    Nick

I think you are missing the point... we dont want to have to start it up when we want it...
I want my phone to automatically sync with my email contacts when I come home or turn on my computer, without having to think about it. And I don't want to have to sit and wait for stupid Ovi to start up and get out of the way before I can do anything else. I never had to with Nokia suite (which by the way was a much lighter program, Ovi is just a big fat resource hog and doesn't do a whole lot more that NS did, mainly just bigger buttons for the blind and looks prettier!) ... The only reason I use this useless fat program is that you stopped updating Nokia Suite and I need Thunderbird compatibility! I'll also let you know that I searched for anything but Ovi to do this with easily, before I had to drag it back onto my computer.
I noticed that this was an issue brought up during beta as well, and it was completely ignored!
Unless Ovi picks it socks up, lightens it's load, and listens to what people want, I will continue to count the days until this stupid Nokia dies and I can go back to a phone with more universal support.

Check that digital signature on the package is intact. You can do verify it by right clicking on the package->properties->Digital Signatures tab->select Nokia and details. It should say Digital Signature is Ok. If you don't have Digital Signatures tab it also means that the signature is invalid and you should download the package again.

  • Why isn't ovi suite syncing the msgs on my memory ...

I have an E5 and everytime i try to sync my phone with my laptop the messages on my memory card dont show. I dont have a problem with the music, pictures and videos that are on my memory card, they sync just fine but none of the messages show.  I have many important messages that i need to keep. Can anyone help me please?

Ovi suite only tends to sync properly with contacts in phone memory C, try transferring messages to C and see if it ayncs ok ? Messaging>Options>Settings>Other>Memory in use, change to C Phone memory, and you should be offered the option to move messages. Hope that helps.

  • OVI Suite file association

I've installed Ovi Suite on win 7 64 bit.
First of all, ovi doesn't start wehn I connect my N95 8GB. I didn't touch the default setting to it is set to start when a phone is detected.
Once I start OVI Suite manually it recognizes my N95 8GB  and everything seems to work fine.
However, when I try to run a .sis file, windows 7 doesn't associate this file with Ovi. when I try to set the file association manually, Ovi isn't an option amongs the available applications.
I've now installed PC Suite and it is now associated with .sis files.
I've then unistalled and reinstalled Ovi Suite, but it is still not the application associated with .sis and is still not available wehn tyring to set the association manually.
It still doesn't open when I connct the N95 8GB either.
    any idea?
    Thanks,

    Hi Zkrisher,
If you want to have OVi run automatically when you connect your mobile, you need to enable both the options under startup as marked in the attached screen-shot.
The first option will enable to run the OVi suite applcation during the PC startup.
The Second option will enable to bring the application to the front once a phone is connected, even if it is minimised to the notification area (Right handside bottom)
The Second option will not work if the application is not running already.
Also for running any .sis or .sisx files with OVi suite, you need to associate these files with OVi suite application.
This can be done in two ways.
    1) Right click on any .sis file and select open with option. In the pop-up window select Nokia Ovi Suite. (If you dont find it either under Recommended programs or other programs, you can browse the same from the installed location and select it).
Make sure the option " Always use the selected program.... " is selected ( Screen-shot attached)
    2) Start -> type Default Programs -> Associate a file type or protocal with a program. Locate .sis and .sisx files and assiciate both to Nokia OVi Suite if it is not associated to OVi suite
Hope this will solve your issue

  • Syncing issues, Ovi Suite on Windows 7: Some sugge...

Hi. I was complaining on my twitter about Ovi's last release and someone asked me to report about my experiences here. For most of the issues I did a workaround by myself but I think that I'll not be the only one reporting them and experiencing the same problems, so I'd like to show my thoughts as a suggestion for the next releases.
When I started Ovi Suite after the installation to explore the changes, I had a massive system slowdown and I'm running a Core 2 Quad! Then I realized that Ovi was indexing ALL of my PC musics and photos, including subfolders.
Ok, that's what the software was designed for, the problem is that I have over 30GB of images on my Pictures folder and 22GB on Music. I never checked to immediate syncing when my device is connected neither search my local library, but I just clicked on Music tab and my PC went to a extreme slowdown, NokiaMServer.exe on top CPU usage and crashed. It got worse when I connected my Nokia: It forced to sync the entire 22GB Music files on a 8GB SD! Someone missed a condition there to check if the device has enough space!
I'm not discussing how I sync my music files but I download a lot of 320kb bitrate songs which each one has 11~25MB so as my headphones won't play a louder sound than any 96KB AAC, I convert all that I want to hear on my device and just drag and drop with all of metatags including album covers, works for me. From now I'll put all of my converted files on a specific folder, sync with Ovi and keep everything organized BUT why the hell isn't there a screen asking me to select the default folders for syncing on the first run?
...And the same thing happened to my pictures, just a little bit worse. My system was crashing, Windows Explorer crashed, NokiaMServer went to 25% CPU usage on Task Manager because of thumbnail processing! Really, why the hell would I like to put my entire Pictures folder on my cellphone, especially huge files?
To stop Music indexing, I just selected all songs and deleted them from the Ovi's database/collection without messing with my iTunes library (though some metatags and album covers were corrupted) but for the pictures, deleting 35MB from catalog on my own computer lasted longer than using Bluetooth or the old Nokia Phone Browser to send a 100MB file!
Removing the folders from "folder-watch" or changing the library addresses over the Options should clean Ovi's library/collection but it didn't worked, Ovi kept adding pictures and songs. The only way to stop the ridiculous thumbnail processing (from pictures which I also moved to another folder just in case) was deleting "\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync", "\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store" and "\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Ovi Suite" and seting Ovi's to sync to another folder.
I know that there's a lot of people that don't put that amount of files on Windows default documents folders but I can't understand why this software is so slow for simple commands that other softwares can do better! Even the old PC Suite with Nokia Phone Browser was faster when copying or moving a file to another folder and now it's not even modifying or sending files, it is only reading and indexing!
So, I think that it's not much to ask to Nokia/Ovi developers:
    1. Let users choose the default folders for syncing BEFORE start syncing.
    2. Faster indexing and exclusion for Ovi's library. Don't waste time processing a half-screen-sized thumbnail, just show a 128x128 and if the user wants to see the full-sized picture, make Ovi launch system's default picture viewer/editor. After all, your own pictures don't have DRM...
    3. Nokia Music: Can someone explain me how to lock that damn scroll-bar? Because when I'm exploring my songs suddenly the bar goes back to the top! If you want to make a stylish scroll-bar, fine, but please, make it functional as a normal scroll-bar! Otherwise use system's default!
    4. Again about Nokia Music: Something I thought it was nice was letting users choose what application they wanted to use for syncing songs, because some legacy devices don't work with Nokia Music and transferring files from Nokia Music Manager was faster because you didn't had to change you connection type from PC Suite to Media Device. Fortunately for me, iTunes AAC format works fine to reduce disk usage on my devices, but it would nice if Ovi could convert songs for a smaller file size as Music Manager did.
     5. I'm also experiencing some random nokiaaserver.exe crashes without any Nokia application running at the same time.
That's all. I hope someone read it and understand my point of view.

use this version. it has most of the bugs fixed...
keep in mind that if you are using a win 764bit, there are still issues with crashing.

  • Ovi Suite annoyance

    Hi All,
I realise this isn't the biggest problem in the world, but it's really bugging me. Basically I use Bluetooth to connect my phone to my laptop and my phone is normally in my pocket. So when I walk away the connection is dropped and when I come back it reconnects. All good. The thing that's bugging me is that when it reconnects Ovi Suite pops open ie I have it closed (minimised to tray, not open on screen or on the taskbar) then the window appears when it reconnects. Is there any way to stop it doing this? PC Suite didn't do this. If I want it open, I'll do it myself...
Another thing that bugs me is the text messaging. I quite like the "chat" style view of the messages, but as each message only takes up just over half the width, it makes bad use of the space. Why can't they take up the full width? The formatting makes it clear who they're from. Or you could at least take it to 90-95% of the width. Some way to make the whole text messaging window more compact would be better as well.
Essentially I have Ovi Suite open all the time and I want it to be a little less in my face and not be forced to have it take up so much screen real estate. I have a lot of applications open and don't see the need for Ovi to pretty much fill one of my monitors.
I should also say though that I actually quite like Ovi Suite and am making these comments in the hope that it'll help improve the product. There are many different types of user and we don't all want the same thing...
If anyone has ideas that can help with these things, or if these comments could be passed to the developers, I'd be grateful.
    Thanks
    Stephen

This seems to be an ongoing issue for a long time.
And yes, I have the same issue at work where I don't really want my contacts and photos randomly flicking through.
In a business environment this has the potential to cause major embarasment (or worse ...)
Who ever thought of this - developers, are you listenting?
It would be nice to get an acknowledgement that the developers are aware of this issue and doing something about it
