  • Problem linking Outlook to Ovi suite - using Nokia...

    Hi,
I bought Nokia N8 and tried to sync my Microsoft Outlook contacts and calendar entries using Ovi Suite. Unfortunately, I get the following message in both cases on Ovi suite
"Reinstall Microsoft Outlook. Then sync again".
Once I also noted the error code "83860077".
I contacted the help line but I have to say that I was totally disappointed.
They let me delete one DB file hidden in the folder but this didn't help either.
    Also,
    - I installed Microsoft office again (I am using Microsoft Office professional 2003)
    - I removed all Nokia programs from my PC and then installed the latest version Ovi suite 2.2.1.23
    However, the problem still remains.
I am using Windows XP as OS.
Connection between Ovi suite and Nokia N8 phone looks good (e.g. photos, messages).
    Can anyone help here?
I am really disappointed and clueless to solve this issue.
    Thanks,
    Kaps

I've just spent the last two weeks, since picking up a brand new N8-00, trying to get it to sync with my computer, home WiFi, and earpiece. Despite being told by the help line people that the earpiece bluetooth wasn't compatible, it has now recognised it. I've had to re-boot my router several times a day fo several days before the two machines finaly agreed to talk to each other.
All that now remains is getting Ovi Suite to talk to Outlook. I've reinstalled it several times, including wiping the registry clean of anything to do with Nokia. I'm now waiting for their IT team to get back to me with a solution. I have a similar problem: Whenever I try to sync Ovi with Outlook 2007 in Windows 7, either Contacts or Calendar, the programme simply freezes and refuses to work. Eventually I get the message that it has stopped working and suggesting I let Microsoft know about it.
I've spent to last few days on the phone badgering their support department, perhaps if this problem was reported to them by more people they might get round to doing something about it.
I am interested to hear that Ovi 3.0 appears to work, but would be reluctant to try it  without more confirmation.
So far I am not impressed by Nokia. It's a pity, as the phone seems to be a good one, it's just let down by shockingly poor software, but with a few tweeks it could be outstanding.

  • Why do we need ovi suite or nokia pc suite

i am wondering if i really need the ovi suite or nokia pc suite to use with my new N97?
is it possible to simply copy from one section of my computer to the phone using copy and paste?
i guess i should try to explain this better but i am new at all of this.
after reading all of the troubles everyone has with ovi and finding for myself that the sync is unreliable, i have uninstalled it and now i wonder can i use the phone without a suite?
something that bothers me with all programs is when they copy my pictures and i end up with 2 or everything, the second pic with(2) after its title.
the same happens with my music which is stored in WMP (basic)
i dread syncing anything because i always end up with the 2 or more of it all.
i understand that it is all about syncing between the desktop and the mobile, it just seems like a lot of trouble for very little gain. and i propbably have a lot to learn anyway..
    also i have windows 7.
    great forum.

I just don't understand, Nokia.  Will you PLEASE do something about this bloated mess called Ovi?  It's almost singlehandedly destroyed my XM 5800 experience.  Just a simple statement on your behalf here.  Stop sticking you heads in the sand and admit that you released a pile of garbage.  Just admit it and let us know what you're going to do about it.  Throw us a bone here!
How did this even manage to get released in the first place??
Ovi is a major black eye to the Nokia software development team.  What an embarrassment.  You guys need to fix this FAST, or you risk losing EVERYONE to iPhone and Android.

When I start my Nokia Ovi Suite (V. 2.2.0.245) it works as usual, I can brows around my content without any problems. As soon as I connect my Nokia 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006) it crashes. Worked just fine before I upgraded to the latest version on the phone.

Uninstall Ovi and re-download from Nokia web. Reinstalled Ovi Suite but that didn't work.
I then uninstalled all Ovi and all Nokia related software, cleaned Registry and reinstall Ovi Suite: Failed to fix.
Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize.

    How to solve this problem?

    LOL
I just tried Nokia Ovi Suite again to copy the full error report that it sends to Microsoft.... lo and behold it started to work again?????

This I did before I tried

Then I installed Nokia PC Suite 7.1.40.1 which worked just fine with 5800 XM (RM-356 V. 51.0.006). I had no problems making backups or to synchronize with Nokia PC Suite.
Made a complete backup on my phone.
Installed Nokia Software Updater and I reinstall the latest FW 51.0.006 to my phone.
Then I organized my content for a few minutes.
Shut down Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater.
    Started up Nokia Ovi Suite.
Connected my phone and clicked on PC-Suite on the options.
    It now works again????
Something happened when I installed PC Suite that enabled me to use my Nokia 5800 with Ovi Suite again.

  • Nokia OVI Suite and Nokia Care Support

Today I called Nokia Support, because I could not download maps with map loader.
The guy asked if the ovi suite is installed. I told him, that the Ovi suite keeps on crashing on start-up on my machine, and that all other software is running fine, e.g. the PC suite which I am using instead.
For a price of 14 Cent/Minutes this "Nokia-Care"-guy had the nuts telling me that probably my computer needs to be fixed. After telling him that my computer works fine with all other software, he finally told me that I need to call Microsoft, as it would be their fault that Ovi Suite is not running on my machine.
This is a poor joke called "Nokia-Care". Dear Nokia-people, that is no-support and no-care-at-all. Providing something that crashes for free, and charging money for providing rudeness on the phone.

    Hey,

  • Ovi suite and nokia c5-03

I have tried continually today to get my phone to be recognised by ovi suite.
It see's the phone model when adding a new device, but when i click on the phone, it comes up with the phone is not in ovi suite mode????
What the heck, its the only mode available apart from mass storage etc.
It IS in ovi suite mode, I have done this several times, unplugged the phone from the USB cable and replugged it in. restarted ovi suite. restarted the computer, all to no avail.
Cannot even use pc suite, which is the program i actually prefer to use. PC suite recognises i have the c5 connected but wont allow me to do anything either
Please please help i need to back up and put stuff on the phone that i had saved from my old phone (old phone lost somewhere on the motorway so cannot sync that way)

    Hi,
Can you try the suggestions below?
-Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel (called Programs
and Features in Microsoft Windows 7).
Select Nokia Ovi Suite in the list of applications and click
    Change/Remove.
In the dialog that appears, choose Repair.
    - Click Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and repair
-Try creating the connection between your phone and computer
totally from scratch. Start by disconnecting your phone. In
Nokia Ovi Suite, select Tools > Options > My devices. Select
your phone at the top of the window and click Remove this
    device.
Then, select Tools > Add new device, and follow the
    instructions to reconnect the phone.
If this doesn't solve the problem,
-Uninstall the following programs withAdd/Remove Programs in
Control Panel (called Programs and Features in Microsoft
    Windows 7):
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Then, download and install the latest version of Nokia Ovi
    I hope this helps.

  • Will Ovi Suite fire Nokia Pc Suite?

What do you think all of you ?
I think that A STABLE VERSION of nokia OVI suite will be a replacement because of alot of reasons: easier ,  better and friendly UI , smoother and wonderful look , real-time sync and integrated app and FW update progam
-you can show appreciation to my posts if it helped or useful by pressing the green Kudo star beside my post that hepled

    Started From Nokia 3310 , Now with Nokia N97 v.22.0.110 + N900 PR1.2

I honestly have to say I DO NOT TRUST OVI SUITE. I just did a restore on my 5530 (after a successful backup) and although it appeared that it worked, it wasn't obvious that it did. Also, the text messages and images visible in Ovi Suite never made it back to the phone. I struggled looking for the setting that will let the PC overwrite the phone, at least one time, but couldn't find it.
With PC Suite is less bloated and the experience feels cleaner and faster. I do not have a positive opinion of Ovi Suite, and just got done uninstalling it.

  • Nokia N9 - 600 euros and its Ovi Suite Calendar su...

For a phone priced at 600 euros you would expect to have the same feature as the lesser phone versions released by Nokia.
For how long is Nokia thinking it can fool people with good hardware but lousy software support ?
People will catch up and skip on the Nokia phones.
Untill then, is Nokia saying that a 600 euros phone will not have Calendar synch support in ovi Suit ?

Nokia N9 does not support Ovi Suite, but there is new lightweight and simple to use Nokia Link application for your PC or Mac:  www.nokia.com/nokialink . With this application you can easily  copy photos, videos and music to your N9.
For Outlook contacts and calendar you can use the Mail for Exhange account, that will also synch your email. You can find guidance here:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/n9/user-guide?ccf_name=nokia-n9/guide/GUID-6BE14793-...
For directly syncing contacts from your old phone to the N9 you can use the widely compatible contact syncing. You can initiate this from the Phonebook> Options> Import contacts or from the Settings:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/n9/user-guide?ccf_name=nokia-n9/guide/GUID-D546BDA9-...
For preloading maps, you no longer need to have your computer, but can do this directly from the N9's Map application. From the settings you can choose> Manage maps> App maps. There you can preload country maps over WLAN connection.

It didn't show map on phone, just plain color like no map installed. The file I used was named  17221.zip and got it from this site. Will try the whole Europe if it helps.
I have Nokia Ovi suite and Nokia maps updater (which dont work) at the moment at my pc. Where I can get "MapLoader" or is it just another name for Maps updater?
Hullukala, please check your file paths. It should work.
For example, if i were to open the 17221.zip (Finland map) and extract it on my PC first (in a folder named 17221 for example), I would go inside that folder and grab all the files and folders in that folder and put them right inside cities\diskcache on your memory card.
It will tell you that certain folders (the folder structure) exist, and you should overwrite / replace. The only reason I see for the maps not working is file paths being wrong. You don't need to download the whole EU file.
Nokia Map Loader is actually a different application to Maps Updater.
Try here for it if you want to try it, but you really don't have to use it if you do things manually.

  • E5: Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device...

I am trying to update the software on my E5 using OVI suite but I keep getting an error during the install phase (after backup). The following error and instructions are displayed in the OVI suite window but makes no difference when I follow these instructions (just end up back with the same error).
"Nokia Ovi Suite has lost connection with your device. Follow these steps to help reconnect your device:
    1. Remove USB cable from your device.
    2. Restart the device (turn off and on again).
    3. Re-insert the USB cable.
    4. Click 'Ok' below to continue updating."
Current E5 software version is 042.007.
I am trying to update to E5 software v. 043.115
    Any ideas?

Yep having the same issue. Just got a replacement handset due to the random restarting issue, soon after setting up the new handset I get a message on phone saying software update is available. Both OVI suite and Nokia software updater say version 43.115 is available (about 200mb in size), I currently have the same version as you 42.007. It claims to do a lot of improvements to the handset. The update downloads fine but when it comes to installing I keep getting the same issue. Phone simply will not restart automatically and the update restarts then fails at the same point over and over. Had the same problem with my previous handset.
I spoke with my network provider to see if it was an issue with the handset needing firmware specific to them but they said no it is an issue with the firmware itself and has been happening to everyone since its release!!! They said I should not download it until Nokia has resolved the issues with it. But how do I know when that will happen as I cannot find anything put out by Nokia stating there is an issue or anywhere on web forums saying there is actually a problem.

  • Ovi Suite + 5230 USB not working

    Preamble:
I recently connected my Nokia 5230 mobile phone to my PC via USB connection and loaded up Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23). Everything worked lovely. But alas! Both an Ovi suite update was available, as well as a update for the phone itself! So I downloaded the latest version of Ovi Suite (3.0.0.284).
Unfortunately, now Ovi Suite does not detect when I select "PC Suite" USB mode (selected on the phone screen). This essentially makes Ovi Suite useless.
So I followed some advice on other discussion pages (more on that later) and reinstalled the Ovi Suite. The problem persisted.
Here are some pictures to help you understand my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/5IknF.jpg
The computer is able detect the phone is connected via USB. I can even browse the contents of the phone memory and memory card. Upon detecting the connected phone, and me pressing 'PC Suite' on the phone screen, it will show this:
    http://i.imgur.com/lV0rs.jpg
I cannot progress past this screen. The Ovi Suite simply does not recognise that I've selected that option on the phone.
    Defense:
I know what your thinking. "Just another USB thread". Well, I did in fact read plenty of threads on this forum before posting, and have spent the last few hours uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and drivers in various ways (as suggested in those threads), with no success.
The following is a list of forum threads which I have read and tried all the solutions found in each, and I have copied the solutions (which appear to have worked for other people), for your convenience:

Solutions which did not work for me:
Could you please follow these steps and check?
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.
    1. Uninstall all nokia related applications like Ovisuite, pc suite, connectivity cable driver,pc connectivity solutions, nokia software updater etc. from ur PC.
    2. Restart your PC
    3. Now download and install the recent ovisuite from http://www.ovi.com/suite
    4. After installation, disconnect/disable your internet connection (this will make sure that the PC use the drivers which comes with ovisuite and  prevent the PC from downloading any new drivers from internet) and then connect your mobile and wait for drivers and support software installation.
    5. After drivers installation you can connect your mobile to ovisuite from ovisuite screen.

    Hi GannonC,
Uninstall the following Programs, if any, from Control Panel -> Programs and Features or Add or Remove Programs.
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Later download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.
    http://www.ovi.com/suite
After OVi Suite installation, restart your PC, disconnect your internet from PC and connect your mobile to the PC. This is to prevent the PC searching for a new drivers from internet. OVi suite has all the required drivers for all the nokia phones available in market.
Once all the required drivers are installed automatically, you try connecting the mobile by selecting 'Connect your device' from the bottom left on the OVi suite screen. You should be able to connect your device now.
After connecting you can go ahead and update your maps/ download new country maps.
NOTE: before updating your maps/ download new country maps, you should have used your maps in you mobile atleast once.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
You can connect back your internet anytime after the drivers installation.

I found this on the Europe forum and it worked for me--finally!
    From /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/Synchronisation-error-code-8393f010/m-p/734155/highlight/true#M21944...
    Click Start

Choose Nokia Nokia Cable Connectivity then Change and repair
Do the same for PC Connectivity Solution - Change then repair
    Reboot computer
After re-starting the computer, I also followed this portion of a suggestion from another post (don't know if it made a difference or not):
"connected the device, waited till all the drivers were loaded.
    Then launched Ovi suite"
     (From /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/E52-Sync-Error-8393f010-838c03ee/m-p/740481)
Ovi Suite then recognized my device and the sync appears to have gone smoothly.  I hope it works for you too!  It's ridiculous that it causes so many problems though--I've wasted many hours on something that should have installed correctly the first time.
Other threads with this problem, which I came across that mention the same problem with various other phones:

    Zship's revelations:
So this is not really a problem for me. I have the working, older (2.2.1.23) version of Ovi Suite installed on my netbook, and sure enough, it works fine, I just tried it. I wont be updating Ovi Suite on it though. I also could probably just download the update via 3.5G using just the phone itself, but the problem remains that a simple software update has caused a critical connectivity problem between your software and hardware. Given that many Nokia customers would have less technical know-how than say, myself or anyone else on this forum, this problem is a quite likely a huge inconvenience to them, they probably wouldn't visit these discussions and spend 5 hours reinstalling software like I just did, and they surely would be thinking twice before purchasing another Nokia device in the future.
tl;dr - Nokia recommended update breaks connectivity between software and device, various attempts to fix seemingly simple problem don't work.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

SAME PROBLEM. And none of the many suggested solutions has worked for me yet. I want to thank all on this thread (and many others) for their help. I've learned a lot but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. I think maybe Nokia needs to ... uh ... bloody well BOTHER TO FIX THIS ISSUE themselves, maybe. Like, cuz they're PAID FOR IT and I'M NOT. Harrumph.
I run Windows XP, and was on Media Player 11, but have rolled back to 9 and 10. I have a Nokia E 72. I have all the latest Nokia cable-drivers, PC Suite, OVI Suite, Connectivity software, etc.. The symptoms are as follows: when I plug in the phone by USB cable, the laptop won't recognize it. It says "USB device faulty" or "failed to load properly" and refuses to get the hardware into its brain. The Device Manager shows only a "Unknown Device" which I cannot install drivers onto. Taking the extra media-card out of the phone doesn't make any difference -- nothing I've done will make the computer recognize the main (built-in) card in the phone. I can't browse to it via any sort of populate / repopulate disk drive, or any other method of connecting it.
As I understand it, this is some conflict with the phone and the new concept of MTP. Media Transfer Protocol confuses the computer, causing it to kind-of think that the phone is kind-of a media player, when in fact it's a whole lot more. So, the "parent" doesn't get loaded, then the rest of the phone doesn't get loaded, then it kind-of tries to load some MTP but fails, etc.. If I could browse to the phone through a non-Nokia connection I'd be happy to do so in order to implement any of a number of the suggestions above. But I can't get the computer to recognize the phone when the phone is plugged in by USB, regardless of all the solutions above.
The problem began a few days ago. It just up and wouldn't recognize the phone. I hadn't installed any updates that I knew of on either item, but it's possible that my memory is faulty and a newer version of this or that snuck in there and screwed it all up. I have tried a serious roll-back to a Restore Point about six weeks old, but that didn't solve the problem. This suggests to me that the problem is phone-resident, since the rollback was to a computer-based Restore Point and I don't have phone rollback capability.
This seriously hampers me. PC Suite, OVI, and some future version of Nokia Suite, will all be useless to me unless Nokia accomplishes the stunning act of supporting their software. I won't hold my breath. Just in general, you'd think that plug-and-play of a phone into your computer would be a lot simpler. Just take the cord -- stick it in the phone; stick it in the computer -- and shazam, you're plugged in. But NOOOOOO we're on NOOOOOOKIA ... Now I know why Microsoft wanted to buy them so badly. They knew they'd all get along and have the same assumptions about software -- that it doesn't really matter whether it works reliably on a user's computer at his home, as long as it works in theory on some programmer's ideal personal computer in Seattle once in a rare while. Nokia? Meet Microsoft. Microsoft? You and Nokia will get along juuuust fiiiine ...
