Ovi Suite, please list features you want.

Well, actually I posted a few new features I want for the next version of Ovi Suite in the Nokia BetaLabs suggestion site. Most people seem to find this place more, accessible, so I was wondering if maybe I could just incorporate your "wants" into my own letter. Of course bugs are a different story, since I am composing a feature request. If you need bug reports, I'll make another thread.
Basically what I sent already are:
1. Give Ovi Suite it's own calendar. I would understand if you guys have trouble making the suite sync the phone with different calendar applications like Outlook and others (MS is not Nokia, so...), but what if there was a function in the Ovi Suite itself that syncs with Outlook, making an "Ovi Calendar" function, and that would be the one to sync into the phone?
2. Ovi Suite should be able to access Ovi Store. It is pretty tedious to send links to the phone when using Ovi Store on the PC. Why not just let Ovi Suite be a direct link to Ovi Store to install into the phone the apps we want? Not all people have access to mobile internet. I do, but I find using the phone for mobile downloads and installations tedious as the phone does have its own limitations.
3. Ovi suite should also be able to keep a library of installer of apps we download through the store, or extract apps we have on the phone. There are times that we may have to do resets and reformats of our phone, and it is tedious to redownload everything again.
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

1. Private messages, photos, and contacts being flaunted for all to see. Get away from this poorly poorly poorly thought out interface.
2. Start up splash screen up for a minute if OVI has trouble signing in.  Make OVI start up fast!  Give us control over the time-out times.
3. Exceedingly long timeouts on updates if server not found (and timeouts in general, and not being able to do anything else while waiting) - get them into check.
4. Newly sent messages do not show in conversations once sent *from OVI itself*.  You have to sync first. I mean, come on!
5. Descent reports on sync - not just the recent changes!  Where do I adjust what OVI considers recent?  What about from the last sync?
6. Software slow in general - option to turn off the animation of the interface and skip to the end result?  I don't want pretty, I want WORKING.
7. On sync, certain contacts' messages displayed as sent by phone number, not the contact (possibly contact recently changed), but all is well after reboot (possibly)
8. We want to select the outlook folders we want to sync with - /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/OVI-Suite-and-PC-Suite-What-about-professional-environments/td-p/575256
I recall a previous OVI sync that reported a list of changes when syncing contacts.  This showed the old contact information and what it changed it to.  It was also a whole lot more configurable as to what folders in Outlook it should sync with.  This could be used to maintain a different outlook folder of contacts you want to sync to your phone.  This seems to be gone now.
OVI tries to sign into Nokia on startup, so if there is a net connection available, it will hang in the startup splash screen until it times out (that takes up to 60 seconds).  With the entry level computer being ten times as powerful as the UK weather supercomputer of ten years ago, one would think that a big company like Nokia could write something a little more responsive?  I'm pretty sure Nokia's drive is to stay current with Visual Studio 2010 and .net framework 3.5, but that tendency has lead to the complete downfall of most.  Just keep to what works in old code until you have thoroughly tested the new platform internally to the company!
I don't even know why I raise my voice here because everyone knows we are all beta testers for the big companies.  Except, most users don't have the patience to come here and plead for better software, so it's up to the few masochists that we are to shout to the giant and hope we are heard - all in vain.
At least I got a response from Nokia (saylinen) from the last one, inquiring about my issue with OVI displaying messages with phone numbers only.
The messages displayed the right senders from the contacts list after a reboot.  But I'm not prepared to reboot after a sync just to help OVI get back on track!  The minute wait in the splash screen on startup if OVI can't sign in?  Private messages and photos being flaunted all over your screen in the OVI "home" interface?  It's ridiculous!
I've read a problem from another user that contacts are lost when syncing?  If you follow my post, mail me, I want to list your problem and shout to the bad giant called Nokia.
Nokia, none of us are happy with what you are doing with the software.  We want a little 4 megabyte or so app, that launches in less than 100 ms, and instantly shows everything we can access from the phone, on our PCs, IF we drill into it.  Why not show a tree starting with contacts, messages, photos, videos, and music, and when we drill down to them we can see filenames, creation dates, last accessed dates, and size?
And while things are idle, why not use the idle time (if option selected in options) to start syncing?  Transfer the newest stuff first!  And do it to a buffer directory, so it's all local on our PCs when we choose to update?  OR auto update IF the option is selected?  Give us options!
But first and foremost, give us access that's fast and responsive?
The idea of separating it into phone and computer is also good.  But make the phone alive!  If we browse the phone, we want to see what's on there NOW.  Not since the last time we pressed sync!
Come on guys, you've had a few years of writing phone software by now.  It's time to start getting it right!
Found the same request for outlook folder selection in this thread: /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/OVI-Suite-and-PC-Suite-What-about-professional-environments/td-p/575256

  • Installaton error on ovi suite-- please help

I got my nokia n8 yesterday and I got some problems while installing the ovi suite cd  in my Windows7 64bit laptop.. so i download the latest version of ovi suite but i got the same problem as mentioned below...So provide some solution to install ovi suite completely in my laptop.
    I got the error like
    could not open key:
UNKNOWN\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BDOAF18C3B9B1A1EE8\68AB67CA7DA7FFFFB7449A0100000010 Verify that you have sufficient access to the key,or contact your system personnel.

There doesn't seem to be any uninstaller for Ovi Suite either. I have looked for some sort of removal tool and thousands of other people are looking for the same, but that doesn't seem to exist either.
Every time I try to remove Ovi Suite from from Control Panel and also using third party software, It only seems to want to install the software and not remove it. Going through the motions of selecting to install the current software, the same error comes up about permissions.

  • Features you want in iPhone

    Dear iPhone Users,
I Know you are holding the best phone in your hand, since i am new iPhone user and if i compare it with my last experience for sure it delightful and exiting so far. but at the same time i am missing few of the feature that i am missing and i think they make your life easy.improvisation is the key to remain on the top therefore i am listing few of the things that i felt iPhone users deserve to experience after paying hefty price for the device. other users can also add into it if they wish
1> separate volume setting for alert and call ring. i dont want my alert tone as loud as ring tone.
2> end the call using power button, it is very handy believe me if you get some idiotic promotional call at odd time you would want to slap that guy and cutting the call using power button will give you the same feeling.

you can let apple know using the feedback channel'http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • OVI Suite crashes when I want to sync contacts

I turned on the option to synchronize with my NOKIA account in ovi.com. and after that my ovi suite crashes everytime when i want to sync contacts..there is a photo as a proof.
i have the lastest version of OVI SUITE 3.0 and lastest software update for my nokia n95 8gb..i have last updated windows 7 OS..and i dont know where is a problem??
i tried to repair sync, restart my computer and phone..but problem is still there
    plz help me!

I'm afraid I have the same problem, repeatedly. I got an e-mail from Nokia suggesting that I un-install and re-install Ovi, including hidden files. And then I managed to re-snychronize with Outlook, but once, and once only. And now Ovi crashes when I try to synch with my Nokia, AND when I try to sync Ovi with Outlook. It's infuriating to see that this problem is not being properly addressed by Nokia. But encouraging to realize that I'm not alone, not just an idiot who can't work it out for myself!

  • Ovi suite connection to OVI-Store

was so happy when I saw that OVI suite is showing features from my home store (Germany) even I in China at the moment.
But the positive surprise had an sudden end when I tried to select and install something.
It is sending the link to my phone in China....yes it really does.... but when I want to install it then the old problem pops up. It says......this app is not available in your country.
I brought up this point in other forums already, but NOKIA does not have any plan to change this.
I can only say OVI-store is useless for me and many many other foreigners here, if they cannot access the store of the country where they belong to.
None of them wants to install all the Chinese scrap on their phones.
This also means all travelers and business people cannot access the ovi-store, when they are not in their home country. Nokia seems to be too rich, they obviously don't need this business.
My wife already switched to Android, she can access her home store. As I am a blind long term NOKIA addicted user I suffer and write this post hoping that NOKIA will change one day.

Hi, please try this with Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.284. You can use Nokia Ovi Suite's own software updates (Tools -> Check for updates) or via direct download and install from www.ovi.com/suite

  • Ovi Suite Criticisms

    Hey All:
I signed up just to air my own criticisms of Ovi Suite, and let those from Nokia that are watching this forum know why it has been uninstalled on all of my machines for the features of PC Suite. I have seen some of these issues on other topics, but hopefully I'll raise some new ones for you to look at fixing in future versions. For the record, I run either Windows 7 or Windows Vista (all 64-bit), and have both a Nokia 6265i (rarely used, CDMA) and a 5310 XPressMusic (GSM) that I use constantly.
    1. Text Message Management - I like that you tried to at least inject the conversations features that smartphones have. My problem is that it rarely if ever allows me to manage the messages on the phone. If I've read it on the computer, the phone should mark it read (as Message Manager did in PC Suite). If I delete it, I want it gone from the phone as well. These features seem to work sporadically at best, not at all at worst, and is by far the main reason why I use these. My phones are dumbphones, and the ability to  type a quick text without disrupting my work on my computers at any given time is what made me fall in love with PC Suite originally.
    2. Clunky, MASSIVE interface - It looks BETTER than PC Suite, But Ovi has the feeling of being bloated. The software should customize itself to the features supported by the phone. I can't use maps with either phone, and there will never be another firmware upgrade for these two obsolete phones (particularly the 6265), so why do I have so much screen real estate devoted to useless features? Even more, I choose not to use calendar sync, so please let me remove that as well. PC Suite was just barely tolerable (though I still drug it half way off my screen to use only the features that I wanted); Ovi is a huge waste of space. I know you want to sell more smartphones, but frankly I'd rather simply cease using Ovi than have it beat into my head that Nokia has added all sorts of new features to phones
    3. Automatic Pop-Up when I come within Bluetooth Range - Really, this is just a handy reminder of the fact that I want to shut the software down rather than a helpful feature. If it's hiding in the background, let Ovi do its work in the background - it doesn't have to pop into the foreground just because I've come back. It's a resource hog AND an attention hog - please kill off one of those (if not both)
    4. Call Notifications - Most HELPFUL feature of PC Suite was/is the notification when somebody's calling. When I'm in a meeting/lecture/working and my phone is on vibrate in the drawer, having the name of the caller and the basic options pop up was a WONDERFUL, and sorely missed feature. PLEASE bring this back into Ovi suite, even if these other features don't get implemented. Truly: Until then, PC Suite will be the ONLY choice, even with the lack of updates. While you're working on this, don't forget the ability to dial the phone from the computer (so that if the Bluetooth Headset is handy, I can simply pop it in rather than have to reach for both), like was in PC Suite.
FINALLY, 5. Windows 7 Interactions - I was willing to upgrade in the hopes that it would use jumplists, and maybe this is incoming, but it was a real disappointment to find that these haven't even been implemented. This type of suite is IDEAL for jumplist use, as it contains so many different features. It would be REALLY handy to be able to single out my message management tab when it's pinned to the taskbar. As it stands, Win7's desire to hide all system tray icons makes it far too many clicks to access the little pest, and the above reasons mean that I'd rather override the hidden icon for PC Suite than Ovi. If Ovi is supposed to be the new future of PC-Phone interconnectivity, throw something in that makes it feel more like a native Win7 program.
I hope that someone from the development reads these, and that these concerns are brought into the process. Nokia has proven to be an industry leader in these types of software, and while I appreciate where the software is trying to go, the latest incarnation seems to be a giant step backwards from the old software. Thanks for your time.
    --Databoy2k

Hey guys, i found a solution.
I'm using HP pavilion dv6 (can't remember the full specs though).
I also use Ralink_Motorola_BC4_Bluetooth_3.0HS_C1.100 but the problem is Nokia ovi suite greys out the bluetooth connect or whatever which most of you are facing.
I fixed my problem by doing the following steps:
    1) Uninstall Ralink bluetooth software(And then Reboot if required)
    2) Turn off all your wireless devices and then turn all your wireless devices back on. (OR just go to HP wireless assistant and click on Turn all off and then click on Turn all on).
    3) By now your bluetooth driver should automatically install itself, this is not your Ralink bluetooth driver. This is just your basic bluetooth driver so that you can receive and send files.
    4) Now go back to Nokia Ovi suite and do what you have to do to create a connection. There you won't see that connect with bluetooth greyed out like most see that.
This worked for me. Honestly i liked the Ralink better than some odd generic driver. If Nokia doesn't release any Ovi suite version to fix this issue, this is the only solution available(unless you want to change your bluetooth driver to another software like Toshiba bluetooth stack for non-toshiba notebooks).
I told Nokia(ask) more than 6 months ago about this issue and those liers promised me that they will release a version that will fix this issue. Till now they've released allot of ovi suite versions and non of them fixed the issue.
Let me know if it worked i'll appreciate it.

  • Ovi Suite crushes during contacts synchronisation ...

    Hi All,
I have a problem with synchronisation between my phone and MS Outlook. After few seconds Ovi Suite crushes with error:
Unhandled exception at 0x5f252c60 in NokiaOviSuite.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x8f38150b.
    Error line (from Visual Studio):

    Phone: Nokia 5230
Outlook version: 2010 (the same problem I have noticed for 2007)
    Ovi Suite version: 2.2.0.245
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    E-mail folders location: C:\Users\rach\mail
    System language: Polish
    Ovi Suite language: English
Any ideas how to solve this issue? Is there any walkaround? How can I report this issue directly to Ovi Suite development team?
    Best regards,
    Rafal

    Hi Galusi,
Thank you for your valuable feedback. Could you please provide more information regarding this issue.
    - System Information ( Help-About Ovi Suite-System information Copy and paste in this post)
    NOS Logs
    Debug Logs
    1) Exit Nokia Ovi Suite
    2) Open the file debug_conf.txt  (File attached)
    3) Save the file in your PC in the installation folder (Usually C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite) If the file already exist, replace it.
    4) Open Nokia Ovi Suite and do whatever you need to do to reproduce the issue.
    5) Exit Nokia Ovi Suite
    6) Go to your %TEMP% folder
In XP: C:\Documents and settings\your_username\LocalSettings\Temp and In Vista and Windows 7: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Temp
but can be found also by entering %TEMP% to the Windows Explorer's address bar
    7) Take a copy of the files called debug_log.txt and DalMeasurementFile2.log
    Crash Dump Files
    In XP:
On application crash, you'll see the dialog asking whether you want to Debug or Close. Don't do either. Closing the dialog destroys the dump file before you have a chance to copy it.
    - Click the "For more information about this error, click here" link in the crash dialog, and copy the "Error signature" contents. The relevant content can be selected with mouse, and copied. Paste the text to the report.
    - Find the minidump file (usually C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Temp\???.dmp). If there are multiple .dmp files, check the modification time the find the one that was created at the same time the application crashed.
    - Start Task Manager and end process "dwwin.exe". The dump file is locked by this process.
    - The dump file can now be copied and attached.
    In Vista and Windows 7:
    - Expand the "View problem details" in the crash dialog and copy the contents
    - Open Task manager and find NokiaOviSuite.exe from the Processes list
    - Right click over NokiaOviSuite.exe and select Create Dump File.
    - The dump file can now be copied and attached.
For Large files (more than 10MB) you can upload them on Files on Ovi
    1. Log into Ovi.com
    2. Click on files
    3. Type in your username and password
For a user who has not set up files on ovi on his computer, it will give an option to download the file connector.
    4. Click Download and install the file connector.

  • N97 mini not synching with Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.2...

I've had my N97 mini for a few days and I was so hoping that it would be a better experience than the Sony Ericsson I had. Seems not.
Running Win7 32-bit, NOS 2.2.1.23, all software updated on PC and phone, but I just cannot get the phone to sync with the PC. When I connect the phone to the PC with the USB, it does its recognition, and all the Sync button light up and become live. But clicking them does nada.
The strange thing is that it has worked, when I first installed it on the PC.
Also, PC Suite does not start up when I connect the phone to my PC even though I've told PC Suite to start up when the phone is connected. What's going on?
And one last rant... why on earth is there no timed auto-sync facility on PC Suite?? Everytime I want to sync, I have to press buttons. Even my dumb Sony Ericsson software could do that!
    Cheers,
    Mart

    Could you please follow this?
    1. Uninstall Ovi Suite, PC Connectivity solution and Nokia Connectivity cable drivers from Add/remove program if anything is there.
    2. Delete the files from here If anything is there

Do have backup of your phone data & PC registries then
Uninstall Nokia PC Suite, Nokia OVI Suite, Nokia Connectivity cable driver, PC Connectivity solution, Nokia flashing cable driver(if any on your PC), Run PC Suite cleaner.
If you want to install Nokia OVI Suite, install the latest OVI Suite 1.1 (kindly do some googling as i am getting some error message in the following page

  • Several Ovi Suite "problems" with N82 | Need'sum h...

I've got a few questions about my N82 and the new Ovi Suite Beta.
    • The first of all, I pressed the "tools>Software Updates", and it said to me that I could download the new Ovi Maps 3.0. When I tried this, after a while the phone said "Cannot install, it is built in" or something. I have the Maps 1 version I think, and I just can't get it to update it!
    • Where can I find the "Nokia Applications" on the Ovi, so that I can install .sis files (like games, themes and etc).
    • How do I delete music on my phone via the Ovi Suite?
    • How do I sync pictures from my phone with Ovi Suite instead of the "Images" folder on my computer?
...these are some questions I have atm now,
but don't get too comfortable with this, cuz' there may be more.

    Hi,
As of now Nokia OVI Suite 2.0 as you mentioned is still in BETA stage, it may take a while to graduate from beta labs You can search for n-gage www.n-gage.com/
So you are using Nokia OVI Suite 2.0(NOS 2.0) i guess, if yes, sync your phone's music file with NOS 2.0, once sync is over for a test, delete a song from NOS, it will ask if you want to delete from phone too, if you want you can delete the song,  if it goes successfully, you can try to delete the unwanted songs
To sync your phone's pictures with the pc, i recommend you to install Nokia Photos, a pc application, your personal way of managing your digital  multimedia diary
     http://sites.hardwarezone.com/sg/nokiazone/content/featured-articles/nokia-photos-photo-album-redefi...
For your OVI Suite realted queries, you can post your queries under PC and Mac software(in this same forum ), so that your query will be replied by your experts @ quick time that in this forum as this is meant for OVI.com etc.,

  • Nokia Ovi Suite - Messages Sync doubt

    Hi all,
I have this doubt concerning the messages sync:
Let's imagine, I make a sync between my nokia, so all the messages are copied and appear in the Ovi Suite. Some other day I decide do delete some messages on the cell phone. When I sync it again with the Ovi Suite, will it delete those same messages or will they remain?
I didn't find an option to chose whether I could chose the kind of synchronization, since I would like to delete some SMS from the cellphone but keep them intact in my computer.
    Thanks!

    Hey,
AFAIK Nokia Ovi Suite Message sync is one-way sync, ie., u can sync ur handset's messages from ur device to Nokia Ovi Suite and the other way is not possible.  Xprts confirm
If u delete few messages from ur device after synching those with Nokia Ovi Suite, then if sync is successful means, ur messages will b there on both handset and on ur device.  Once if u delete ur messages from device and then if u sync ur handset with nokia ovi suite for message sync, ur deleted messages on the phone will not get deleted from nokia ovi suite and becuase of ur sync even the deleted messages will get restored from nokia ovi suite to ur device, as i said earlier it is only one way sync.
Still if u want the deleted messages to b restored on ur device, what all can b done is u can drag ur messages from Nokia Ovi suite's message pane to ur device, then the deletd mssgs can b stored on ur device too.
If u delete ur messgae on message pane section of Nokia ovi suite, then only ur messages will get deleted from nokia ovi suite.
Hope its clear, if u hav any doubt, get it clarified thru our forum, but it wud b gud, if u post ur nokia ovi suite related issues on Nokia ovi suite discussions board, this one is meant for Ovi and Mobile Media > ovi.com, ovi.store, ovi share and ovi sync, which all r related to Nokia Ovi's online ie nokia account ovi.com
If u hav any query related to Nokia Ovi suite, please do post them in Nokia discussion board > Software > Nokia Ovi Suite, i m stressing this because, ur query will get replied soon if u post ur issue related to Nokia ovi suite in its respective forum, chances r there, users will think issues u post related to ovi suite in ovi.com section will related to ovi.com
    Hav a g8 day

  • Why I removed Ovi Suite

    Hi Nokia,
I just wanted to let you know that I removed Ovi suite and swiched back to PC suite.
    Here is why:
Calendar sync worked for 1 month then (somewhere in February 2010) due to an update in Ovi Suite it stopped working. (shall I say downgade or bad testing?)
Unable to start Ovi suite minimized (= popup at each startup !)
Ovi suite popup each time I come back at my computer (at each (re-)connection)
    Graphically nice but functionally weak
For my usage, no added value compared to PC Suite.
What I don't understand is that PC Suite asked me to "update" to Ovi suite but in reality based on my experience this is rather a downgrade since several working features of PC Suite are not working anymore...
My current phone is a Nokia E65 ; it's getting old and I'm looking to replace it. I hope Nokia will do a better job for the coming versions of OVI suite or I might look elsewhere for my next phone.
In my opinion, calendar sync is definately crucial for a Business oriented phone (E series remember?);  not being harrased by popups each time to go out of range is definately a turnoff too.
    kind regards,
    LL

    Just follow these steps:-
    1. Restart your phone & after restart don't run the maps application.
2.Go to phone memory card & there you will see cities folder simply delete that folder because this is the folder which is for Nokia ovi maps & which is creating problem in your case.
    3. Now try to reinstall Nokia ovi maps 2.0 or nokia ovi maps 3.0 & download the your country data using nokia ovi suite.

  • How to install ovi suite to D drive?

How to install Ovi Suite to the D drive?
The installer does not offer any options. -SS.
My C drive is full and there is not enough space for the humoungous Ovi suite. As a matter of my personal policy, I never install any application to my C drive. I have created a separate D partition expressly for installing applications.

You can change install location of Nokia Ovi Suite with following:
    - Download Nokia Ovi Suite install package from Nokia Ovi Suite pages
    - Start Windows Command prompt
    - From Command prompt, navigate to folder containing Nokia Ovi Suite install package, which you downloaded
    - Start Nokia Ovi Suite install package with command line "Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller.exe /TARGET="D:\TestDir\Test"
    - This results, that Nokia Ovi Suite installer creates folder D:\TestDir\Test (if that doesn't exist) and installs Nokia Ovi Suite there.
    - Unfortunately, Windows Installer still keeps installer cache files and system restoration points in C: drive (or whatever your system drive is)
