Ovi suite still sucks big time

And it is getting worse and worse - looking at the threads here.
And Nokia blatantly stays away from there forums with the exception of popping up from time to time asking for configuration from the users... ie the buyers.
Numerous suggestions from power users dating back from Version one of OSS (Ovi suck suite) has been totally ignored.
Numerous user questionnaires has been ignored.
And I am painfully reminded about this every week I get from PC-suite, recommending me to switch to OVI. Come on Nokia, how can you still recommend this, when you see how great pain the users are in.
Step to the plate and show yourselves in this forum. Even your CEO had the balls to recently exoplain about the problems. Is it too much to ask for the program manager for Ovi, to explain and how you will rectify??
Cheers,
Lars

First, sorry for the long post, but I am getting sick and tired of the patronizing and condescending comments by certain people who think they're the standard and everyone else is either stupid, immature or otherwise intellectually or emotionally challenged.
@cataholic
Please do feel free to quit your patronizing fanboy rhetoric at any time. It is not helpful. Nor is it any more constructive than the rants of frustrated users.
Adding insult ti injury is rarely helpful.
Repeating the same same false statement about all being well with OVI-Suite does not make it any less false and is also rarely helpful.
Your comment that there must of course be millions out there without any problems is, sorry to say that, typical fanboy rhetoric and inherently flawed. This has been proven many times by people more knowledgeable about discussion board dynamics than me. (yes, there are even books written about the subject)
I can say from my own experience that only a small minority of people having issues with software or hardware will post in forums like this one. First of all, only a very small fraction of users will actually bother to look for and find a forum.
Second only a small fraction of those who actually do find a forum will post. Most are satisfied by seeing that many others are having the same issues. They either seethe quietly and vow to never buy a product of the company in question ever again or they hope that a solution to their problem is forthcoming.
I have worked in IT for over 25 years and I can say with confidence that the sync issues are definitely an OVI-Suite problem, regardless of the fact that i happens to work for you.
For many others it simply does not, in  fact it more often does not than it does. I don't just rant without first having done everything feasible to verify that the problem is not on my end or an interaction with other software, bad install, etc. etc.
I have run tests with the same PC and the same fresh images with nothing but the OS (Win XP SP 3, WIN 7 Pro 32, WIn 7 Pro 64)
Particularly interesting is the fact that I installed OVI Suite 2.2 three times on a fresh Win XP image with Office 2003 and three times with office 2007, mind you on the exact same disk image. RTwo out of three times i could not sync OL notes with OL 2003, two out of three times i could not sync at all with OL 2007, Results with Win 7 are similar.
Hovever, there are
Zero issues with PC suite, also three installs each on Xp Pro and Win 7.
Zero issues with Palm desktop.
Zero issues with M$ Active Sync.
Zero issues with Sony Ericsson's Sync Software.
Zero issues with iTunes for the fruit phone.
Zero issues with Blackberry Sync.
Now try to convince me again this is not an OVI-Suite issue.
Of our roughly 35 Nokia users here at the data centre, the majority (25 that i Know of including myself) had issues with OVI Suite, all of those downgraded to PC Suite (handset permitting) no longer have issues.
Ovi 3.0 which is in closed beta right now has not addressed most of the issues mentioned in this forums, is still as unstable unreliable, slow and still the same memory and CPU-hog. Changes seem to be mainly cosmetic.
As for you accusing those who are more and more frustrated with the abysmally bad ovi suite of having low emotional maturity, here's the pot calling the kettle black.
It has been demonstrated many times that patronizing and deriding users that vent in forums is very counterproductive. In many forums I know, moderators delete fanboy rhetoric before they delete rants.
One reason being that rants, contrary to your belief, do just as much to get companies or developers of their collective behinds than the so called constructive comments, which are often dismissed as "you can't please everyone".
More often than not, those who scream the loudest will be heard first. Sad but true.
Another reason is that many companies correctly realize that it is better to let disgruntled users vent in the company's "controlled" environment rather than "out in the wild".
And last but not least "it works for me, you stupid or doing something wrong" fanboy type comments are well proven to fuel the fire and provoke even more rants. If people have serious continuing issues with a product, the last thing they need or want to hear  is how well it works for someone else, maybe even topped off by being served up in a very patronizing, condescending manner.
Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said

  • Nokia Ovi suite STILL not working with Windows 7/U...

    Hi
I have been waiting paitiently for around 7 months now to get a working version of Ovi Suite to use to sync my Nokia C7.
Right now its only version 3.1.1.78 I think. I started at 2.9.X
Ovi suite still thinks my phone is not in Ovi Suite mode. This happens only with Windows 7 laptop. Atleast now I think I can sync stuff using blue tooth. Probably Nokia expects me to copy over small video clips also with Blue tooth!!!
When are you planning to fix? Please dont tell me to use Nokia PC cleaner - I just did that. 3 times in a row. Tried on 3 different Windows 7 laptops also.
    Thanks
    Anup
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Piv1978,
    Try the following workaround.
    Manual sync
Open Nokia Ovi Suite--> Sync--> Sync option--> Uncheck the sync automatically everytime you connect the device.
Then Sync--> Sync now--> Contact, Calendar& tasks, Messages or Notes one by one individually.
Re-pair the "pst" and the "ost" Outlook files as in the following location.
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANPST.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANOST.EXE
Right click the above mentioned exe file and 'Run' it.
    NOTE
It's adviced to take a back- up of the user's Outlook folders to avoid any loss of information.
Check with Microsoft support pages for more information.
I hope this helps you with the error code.

  • Firefox 4 sucks big time. I uninstalled and downloaded 3.6.17.

Sorry Mozilla, but Firefox 4 sucks big time. I uninstalled and downloaded 3.6.17. I've turned off automatic updates. V4 breaks JQuery and who knows what else, so I'll be a lifelong customer of my v3.6.17 version, coz I'm just not going to have established, clean, awesome code killed by the browser! Only I build web apps so I've got to get all my clients to stop upgrading, too. I've been a Firefox guy for years now, but this is the end of my rope. Chrome is pretty good, as is Safari. I guess one of these is going to be my browser going forward.

I got back from Firefox 9 to my older 3.6.8 version. Despite of the really ugly new look there are silly annoyances like the trasposed right click pop up menu "open in new window - open in new tab" I cant tell you how many times ive right clicked and hit open in new window instead of open in new tab
However, the great flop are the disabled add-ons I was accustomed to (PoxySel and Auto shut down among others )
Many years ago I choose Firefox because the add-ons power but if you take them off and destroy the UI I was comfortable with you are inviting me to try ANY other new browser...like the so-talked Chrome.
Seriously, you should be careful with retro-compatibility. At least, give the user the chance to keep the old look, layout and utilities.
    Thank you folks!

  • OVI Suite STILL cannot sync to a network drive

What is the point of having a support forum when everything gets ignored!
What is the point of having a feedback system when it all gets ignored!
I tried to select a network drive to sync photos and videos to but it wouldn't let me! I google it only to find that in this same forum, the question has been asked and AN EMPLOYEE from Nokia suggested they'll add it. This was over 10 months ago and still in this new version, nothing has been done on that front!! I still cannot select a network drive to sync photos and videos! I can't sync to the local drive cause frankly, the space available on the N8 is more than on the local drive!!
For how long will you go on ignoring us like this???
I have been a passionate defender of Nokia since 2001 till literally 5mins ago when after downloading the new OVI suite, a simple task like syncing contacts crashes OVI time and time again.
I can't select a network drive to sync to, all my support posts for the N8 have so far been ignored!!
Do you guys actually have any software testers in the company?? Why is it that anything to do with software, you get it so horribly wrong. Whoever is running that bit of the company needs to be fired and new brains brought into the mix!
I love Nokia as a company as they're full of ideas and potential but the software guys will spell doom for you! If something so simple like syncing contacts can be missed and the software is allowed to be released to the public with that very obvious bug!! Can't you just have it so things JUST WORK?!?!
My N8 is riddled with very simple and obvious bugs that I don't know how it passed. e.g screensaver not coming on when you lock the phone - you have no idea how annoying this bug is. Also for some reason, all my widgets are now about 20% bigger meaning the contents don't fit within the confines of the widget space and information is cut off!!
I am so **bleep** with the whole company right now I'm on the brink of just throwing it all away and saying goodbye to Nokia for ever!
But fortunately, my hatred for Steve Jobs is even more and can't be bothered with Android!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SORT ALL THIS NIGGLING THINGS OUT!!!

you can find the path in the windows registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite\{D995DE8A-1556-45a3-BC7A-568E63663F25}\PcPath]
or just search the registry for the path shown in the 'Photos folder location' shown in the ovi suite.
or search the registry for the value 'photos path'

  • Nokia care sucks big time

Many times when have a problem with my Nokia N8, it gets impossible to get any help from nokia, email, calling or on the web, oh I hate the care website. It makes you fill out this big document before you can address your issue and finally when you do, and click submit, the site makes nothing, it just stay as if the submit button was unactive. I don't know if the problem is only in my country Panama? Or Just on the Latin countries or what. I am a Nokia lover, I have being patience with all the lacks of the company, but please do something for us Nokia.

Don't know what the problem may be with the 'Submit' button but hope you are filling up all the fields correctly. BTW, you should not have any problem calling..
    PANAMA

    Lunes-Viernes, 7:00h-21:00h
    Sábados, 7:00h-20:00h
..and to sum it up, if you have any query regarding the problem faced on your Nokia N8, you may post it on this Forum and you may get help from the users...provided its not regarding any Hardware problem.

  • SUN SUCKS BIG TIME!!!

I have passed through several 'stages' for the last 3 years that I've been using Java: from almost religious 'devotion' to Java (and Sun) to total disappointent in Sun (but still not Java).
This frustration is caused by a simple and stupid Bean Builder app that they created prior to JavaOne Conference 2000. It simply does not work! It is VERY frustrating that SUN gives out demos that do not work! This has happened numerous times! I know that demo is only a demo but it should still work, or let them keep it for their entertainment.
After all, SUN has to learn that software is much more than a feature of hardware and that there is much more behind software than a plain design pattern.

...if even once, done something FOR US. There are a couple of things...
I believe that you can download nmake for free.
They basically gave a bunch of money to ActiveState to support the developement of a unified perl code base, so it more closely matched the unix builds. The perl code base is open source.

  • Alot of the features have stopped working when I forced to upgrade to Firefox 4.01 How do I uninstall this I want to old version back or I'm just going to use Chrome. FF 4.01 sucks big time!!!

I have lost allot of trackpad features. No more zoom, scroll, or movement side to side.

I agree that Firefox 4 blows. I upgraded because it is usually a good thing with Firefox but I see that they have now sold out to the 'Chrome' look and feel.
For crying out loud!!! Stop messing up a good thing.
Screw that. I hate this newly upgraded piece of crap and if I can't go back to something decent, I'll go back to IE or create my own browser.

  • Hopefully this T430s will be my last thinkpad..... Customer Service/Experience sucks big time

Is it just me or do you guys think that for the premium we are paying for these latops there should be better customer service?
Customer service is very unfriendly and rude..... I feel stupid for getting extended warranty not  sure how horrid that would be..
This is my first thinkpad and i hope it will be last (Assuming there would be a better options in next 4 years )
I wish apple had windows latops....
Sorry i had to vent.... Quality alone wouldnt make them premium!

I brought my 2 year old machine a few months ago.....
One of the speakers was crackling when you turn the volume up. It's covered under warranty till next year. I called up the tech guys and they sent a technician to my house the next day and replaced both speakers in my T410!!!
You don't get that service with Apple. My partner with her Apple machines couldn't believe it.
I think maybe you should try and let us help you here.

  • Ovi Suite hangs on sync

Hello, I just bought a Nokia N8 and wanted to sync with Outlook. The first time it worked, but after removing the phone and reconnecting the sync hangs at different stages. Sometimes in the preparation stage "Synchronisation wird vorbereitet", sometimes during sync. There is no error message, why it hangs. After deinstalling and removing any phone specific drivers from device panel I reinstalled the Ovi suite. First sync worked, second not. In my opinion, regular reinstallation for every sync is no option. Any other ideas? Windows 7 pro 64 bit, Ovi suite 3.0.0.290, Outlook 2003.

    Hi,
    N8
    Win7 x64
    Ovi 3.0.0.290
I have exact same problem as OP.
I spent 4 hours this morning attempting to sync contacts, which I eventually managed to do.
I am now trying to sync Calendar & Tasks, but having no luck.  Ovi always hangs with one of two possible status messages (both of which were originally described by OP).
    Either:
    ...or...
I have tried all suggestions put forward by mahayv in this thread, up to and including deletion of the MDataStore.db3 file.  BTW, deleting this file did not make Ovi Suite lose all contacts, messages etc., as mahayv indicated it would.
When Ovi hangs on Sync, and I attempt to cancel, it then hangs again with the following message:
After I then shut down Ovi, using File > Exit, both the program window and notification area green "Ovi" icon disappear, but two processes are still running (namely: NokiaOviSuite.exe and nokiaaserver.exe).  These processes must be manually terminated before Ovi Suite can be successfully restarted.  If I do not manually terminate these processes and try to restart Ovi Suite, then what happens is I get multiple copies of these processes appearing in task manager, but no Ovi Suite window will ever appear.
Bottom line: Ovi Suite is not behaving remotely as it should.
I have tried many possible solutions, suggested both here and in other threads and forums.  These include:
    Reinstalling Ovi Suite
    Repairing Nokia connectivity cable driver
    Reinstalling Nokia connectivity cable driver
"Repair Sync" option within Ovi Suite
Uninstalling ALL Nokia software and reinstalling
Restoring a C drive backup I took about a week ago (i.e. before all this started) thus giving me a "clean slate" from which to try again
I sincerely hope this issue is being taken seriously, as from my various net wanderings it looks like many people are having connectivity issues with Ovi Suite.  FWIW, I get the impression that the common factor is Windows 7 x64.
As people have mentioned previously, Ovi Suite is a big let-down at the moment.  I really like my N8, but the longer I am without calendar sync, the bigger a problem this is going to become.
Thanks mahayv for helping out so far - I really hope we can get to the bottom of this.

  • Nokia OVI Suite - Synchronisation failure without ...

I'm using Nokia OVI Suite 2.2.1.23 with a Nokia 7210 SuperNova (software version 07.23).
I have been noticing for quite some time that not all my messages make it into the OVI suite - some messages (usually associated with the same number) I can only read on my phone.
Furthermore, since a few weeks, my contact list won't synchronise anymore either. It starts up synchronisation, does not give an error, but the contact list on my phone is hopelessly behind compared to the one on my computer.
Does anyone have/had the same problems, and a suggestion as to how to fix it? Or does anyone know where I can find the synchronisation log files, so that at least I can figure out what goes wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Kurt

I have probably same problem. I push the synchronization button and nothing happens. - Nowhere in the entire application. Sending SMS still works. Updating the software (which is most recent) does not work since software cannot connect to update server. Nokia OVI suite really sucks. Problems and problems over and over again. Why can't they develop a simple, fast and simply working synchronization software without the ballast of all the Multimedia stuff.

  • Ovi Suite 3.0 Not Connecting to 5230 via Bluetooth

    Hello,
Got the 5230 for Christmas, very very pleased with it, but I have run into a small snag.
I have onstalled Ovi Suite 3.0 on my laptop (Vista) and bluetooth visability is on on both mobile phone and laptop. I can connect to the device through  my normal bluetooth connectivity from the bluetooth tray icon, and I have successfully transferred some music over to my mobile phone.
When I try and add the device on Ovi Suite, it finds my device name, yet when I click on my device, and click "Next" I get the following message:
"Bluetooth modem might need to be installed on your computer".
Ovi Suite then seems to spend a long amount of time "checking" the device, and eventually, a pop up comes up with "Could not detect device".
I have tried and tried (and searched and searched for the solution) and I have had no luck!
I'm running Windows Update to see  if it will make any difference; can anyone offer any ideas of how to get this working!

    Hi saylinen,
I followed your instruction. I dont have to accept now all the time. But Ovi-Suite still is not able to establish the connection.
In my hardwaremanager I found under "Modems" the "PC Connectivity Bluetooth Modem". There under properties in the tab "modem" is written "connection: COM5"
Under COM&LPT Connections in the COM5 properties the connection is located as "path 2 (Bluetooth_Device)". The connection is refered as ok.
In the bluetooth configuration of my laptop I find a tab "local services". There is a table containing several rows. One is "serial bluetooth connection; Start: automatically; secure connection: obligatory; COM-Port: COM3". No other COM-Ports listed.
In the tab Client applications is another table containing the row "Application name: Serial Bluetooth Connection; Secure Connection: Obligatory; COM-Port: COM4".
In non of the tabs is an entry for COM5. Maybe this is a hint for the problem?
(I added the max of 3 screenshots of the described menues. In the answer on the question from satari I will add some more. Unfortunately is my system german.)
Best thanks for your quick response

  • Phone software updating with Nokia Ovi Suite

    Hi!
I'd like to update my E65 software using Ovi Suite. I know the newest phone software for E65 is 3.0633.69.00  and my phone has 2.0633.65.01 software. The problem is that Ovi Suite still claims that the phone software is up-to-date. Any suggestions!?

First off, Ovi Suite is not currently showing your phone as supported. If it came on a CD with the phone, Nokia may have later determined that there are some compatibility issues. Uninstall it and install Nokia PC Suite.
As to the update, Nokia dose not release the same update in all markets at the same time. North America seems to be the last market they release to. Wherever you are, you may have to wait. Worse, if you bought the phone from your cell service provider, you have to wait until they approve the update. Nokia has no control over that.
If I have helped you with your problem in some way, please take a little time and hit the kudos button in my post. Without your feedback, I don't know if I am being helpful or should just be put out to pasture.
