OVM 2.2.2 and 3.1.1 kernels

OVM 2.2.2,
[root@ovm222 ~]# cat /etc/ovs-release
Oracle VM server release 2.2.2
[root@ovm222 ~]# uname -r
2.6.18-128.2.1.4.37.el5xen
OVM 3.1.1,
[root@ovm311 ~]# cat /etc/ovs-release
Oracle VM server release 3.1.1
[root@ovm311 ~]# uname -r
2.6.39-200.1.1.el5uek

Thanks for sharing? Did you have a problem with said kernels?
Or were you just pointing out that OVM 2 used a standard xen kernel and 3 uses UEK?

  • Are OLE 5U6 and/or the unbreakable kernel DOM0 Capable?

If one or both of them are, do they use the newer PVOps and which version(s) of XEN are they compatible with?
    Any insight/information appreciated
    Thanks

    Thanks for the replies,
I was aware of OVM, my question was specific to the base 5u6 release and the unbreakable kernel. I know OVM 3 is due out soon. I wasn't hopeful on the Stock kernel being a dom0 capable kernel as OEL is Red Hat derived. My understanding is that Oracle has put considerable effort into optimizing and hardening the unbreakable kernel, given their preferred virtualization is XEN rathe than KVM based I was hoping, in the light of the upcoming OVM3, that the UEK would include dom0 patches. As knowledge gained is also applicable to work I was considering using 5U6 with the UEK for a home server project and don't need the management tool set that OVM provides.
The answer would appear to be NO
    Thanks

    27.     What is the difference between SAP Software Kernel and the files in Kernel Directory

well... the OS kernel is for the... "OS" and the SAP Kernel is for.... "SAP"
A kernel is the core of any application, basically is a set of programs and parameters that tell the system how to behave.

  • OVM Hard & Soft Partitioning and Pool Design?

    Greetings,
We are designing an Oracle VM environment with extensive use of both hard and soft partitioning. We realize that hard partitioning is not supported with Live Migration, Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) or Distributed Power Management (DPM). We would like to know if we need to use pools to isolate the hard and soft partitioned VMs, because Distributed Resource Scheduler is a requirement for all of the none hard and soft partitioned workloads / VMs.
Could you please confirm if a single pool with DRS will work with the addition of storage repositories to restrict VMs to a host (hard partitioning) or a subset of hosts (soft partitioning) by provisioning and presenting a storage repository to a host (hard partitioning) or hosts (soft partitioning) with the hard or soft partitioned vm.cfg files.
1- Will the able storage repository design break DRS, is it supported?
2- DRS is a requirement for the general VM population. Must we isolate the hard and soft partitioned VMs using pools to be able to use DRS for the general VM population
    Thank you for your support!

  • OVM support for NPIV and pass through disks

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a couple of questions -
    1) Does OVM support NPIV?
    2) Does mapping the physical disks via the phy: definition in the vm.cfg file equivalent of pass through disks to the guest OS?.
    thanks!
    Gak

    avasek wrote:
Thanks!. The pass through question was actually in context of usage with snap* products from netapp as they work with VMware. All the snap* work with RDM's in VM's (pass through's), so i was wondering if the snap* could be made to work with the phy: def to the VM's as well. The RDM def should be equivalent of the phy: def ..right?. So ideally, they ought to work?No idea, to be honest -- I haven't worked with NetApp gear yet. You're probably better off checking with NetApp directly as well.

  • /proc/cpuinfo | grep vmx  -- output changing between OVM Server 2.1 and 2.2

Have not seen this issue before.
I have a Dell 2950 with 2 Intel Xeon Quad-Core CPUs , with Virtualization enabled in the BIOS.
When I install OVM Server 2.1.5, my cpus support virtualization (based on "cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep vmx" returning data)
When I upgrade to OVM Server 2.2, my cpus no longer support virtualization ( based on "cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep vmx" returning NO data)
If I do a clean install of OVM Server 2.2, my cpus do not support virtualization ( based on "cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep vmx" returning NO data)
I have to be missing something simple.

    Thanks Herb.

  • I have a mid 2014 13' retina display MacBook Pro that went into kernel panic twice, the trackpad froze, and after the second kernel panic it will not turn on. This is a two month old laptop with no history of problems. Any ideas?

I purchased it in December and three days ago it kernel panicked twice. After the second event, it will not boot at all. The charge cord is green when it's plugged in and seems to indicate the battery is fine. When it went into kernel panic, the trackpad locked up. I had a technician open it up to see if there were any obvious issues and everything looked ok visually. I can't boot it into safe mode or anything involving powering the machine on, as it is not responding to anything. I have a major test coming up in five days that I am taking on this laptop and am desperate for answers. Any information you can offer at all would be helpful.

    Try SMC and NVRAM resets:

  • [Solved]Dell XPS13 ultrabook Xorg and Wifi issues after Kernel upgrade

I installed Arch on a Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook today, and most everything ran fine after I ran the initial upgrade -- but I held back on the kernel update from 3.1.3 to 3.3.7.
I just now updated the kernel, and now I can't start X, nor can I access the wireless card. For X, I get a "Fatal server error: no screens found" error, and I can no longer find wlan0 with iwconfig, although I can still see it with lspci.
I even tried downgrading the kernel to 3.1.9, but I'm still having identical issues.
What can I do to fix this, short of starting again from scratch?

Edit: Solved by copying all the files in the boot folder on my root partition (sda3) to my real boot partition (sda1).

  • Problem with HD6630M and catalyst on custom kernel

My laptop is a sony vaio sa with hd6630m and intel graphics as a hybrid graphics setup. i m using linux-sony from aur.
This is what i ve done so far:
i have followed the instructions in the catalyst wiki in order to install catalyst for custom kernel, with catalyst-hook
but after installing, aticonfig --initial -f throws no supported adapters detected. i m sure that my adapter is supported by the latest driver as some guys have successully made the setup.
i' ve read every thread i could find in google about my issue but i didn't make a progress although other have made it!
    Things i tried:
    - installing the .run package from ati manually
    - reinstalling xorg and make a xorg.conf by my own (Xorg -configure does not work either)
    - installing catalyst in default latest kernel
    - i have not tried any other distro lately to see if i could make it work.
    - the open drivers also do not work with my setup, i can only have intel card and blacklisting radeon. (vgaswitcheroo does not work either)
    - many others i cannot recall
The two cards show up in lspci so it isnt a hardware problem
has anyone idea whats might going on or what i m doing wrong?

    Hello All
I find out the solution myself !!!! Phew!!
In order to create a french page couple of things need to be done
1)In the configuration manager > display tab > chnage the language the to french
    2) Log in to Application designer and create the same component and page that was created in English. You may not have to create the page from scratch since you would first create it in base language english and hence when you log in as french you will have the page but it will be distorted so it will be rearranged.
    3) Any text that is there on the page will have to be rewritten in french if its is static text or else if it is being called from a message catalog it needs to be first written in English(this writes to PSMSGCATDEFN). Now go to PeopleTools>Translation>Translate System Definitions>Messages.
And create the french transaltion. For more details on hopw to create new language specific message read peoplebooks(type Translating Messages in the search of peoplebooks).
The language sepecific messages are written to PSMSGCATLANG table.
Now when you log in to peoplesoft as french you will see all you custom pages in french.
Have fun creating any global pages

  • Updated to 10.4.5 and now keep getting Kernel Panics

I keep getting a kernel panic at start up, or shortly after reaching the desktop. I have tried both repairing permissions and repairing the start up disk using Apple's Disk Utility. Ran Disk Warrior, and Techtool Pro 4.1.1, all to no avail. No matter what I do I can't seem to rid my hard drive of the kernel panic.
The Kernel Panics started after I installed the OS 10.4.5 PPC Update and the iTunes 6.0.3 update. Prior to installing the updates my machine ran flawlessly with all of the below hardware.

All I can tell you from the panic log is that there's a problem either with the video card and/or the video drivers. You might try the following:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't help then visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on kernel panics.

  • Suspend2 and the new archck kernel (2.6.15) with initrd

    Hi everybody,
Afret upgrade from archck 2.6.13 to 2.6.15 my system does not resume any longer. I think that I should follow the instruction at the http://suspend2.epfl.ch/HOWTO-2.html which says:
    Initrd/Initramfs's with Suspend2
Using an initrd with Suspend2 is possible. To use this, you MUST edit your linuxrc (or init) script to contain the line
    echo > /proc/suspend2/do_resume
BEFORE the script mounts your filesystem. If the line is missing, your system will not resume. If the line comes after mounting file systems, you will most likely suffer from filesystem corruption. You have been warned.
You can now recompile your kernel with Suspend2...
What file should I edit, I did not find any linuxrc file?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Wireless very slow and/or unstable after Kernel update to 3.13

I have a "fresh" install from 2 weeks ago. It was installed with Kernel 3.12. I have a rtl8192cu, it was dreadful, so as recommended I installed dkms-8192cu and everything was perfect.
After the upgrade to Kernel 3.13, both with the standard driver and with dkms-8192cu my connection is very slow or unstable.
As an example, in theory I have 20m, with 3.12 I was around 14m. With 3.13 I am around 1m or less, I can barely update my system because:
error: failed retrieving file 's-nail-14.6.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz' from archlinux.polymorf.fr : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds
    Wired everything goes fine.
I cannot downgrade to 3.12 because I need the new radeonsi improvements done with 3.13. I have this computer mostly to play Dota2.

I misread that the in kernel driver of v3.12 was working properly. THat way you can figure out what exact change broke performance by testing different development kernels.
There is an in-kernel driver in staging called rtl8192u. It received a lot of changes in v3.12. Maybe try v3.11 and see if that works?
it didnt work in kernel 3.12, but with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dkms-8192cu/ it worked perfect
in kernel 3.13 it is horrible both witht he stock driver or with the AUR package.

  • Help!!! Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and I have a kernel panic!

Upgraded my MacBook Pro 15" from Lion to Mountain Lion and I get the following kernel panic at each restart:
    panic(cpu 1 caller 0xffffff8000540a4f): Process 1 exec of /sbin/launchd failed, errno 2"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1699.26.8/bsd/kern/kern_exec.c:3546
    [IOBluetoothHCIController::setConfigState] calling registerService
    Then the backtrace fllowed by:
BSD process name corresponding to current thread: init
    Boot args: config="\OS X Ibstall Data\cpm.apple.Boot"
    Mac OS version:
    Not yet yet set
    Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 11.4.0: Mon Apr 9 ...
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Youssef

Ok, ressetting the PRAM did the trick for me. I should have read a similar thread about a kernel panic after installing Mountain Lion (https://discussions.apple.com/message/19020046#19020046) :-(
It's now installing the OS. Crossing my fingers!

  • Cryptsetup and 2.6.35 kernel problem

Hi, I have a strange problem with the 2.6.35 kernel. When the system boots, cryptsetup says "Cannot open device /dev/sda for read-only access". I'm using 64 bit software.
The strange thing is that with the 2.6.33 kernel it works like a charm. I have tried to compare the configs for 2.6.33 and 2.6.35 stock kernels but they're similar ( the 2.6.35 has more options but nothing strange ). I have find a parallel crypto module into the 2.6.25 kernel and I suspect it could be that. I have also tried to recover more informations but cryptsetup is very ermetic ( in the logs I have found nothing to understand what is wrong ).
    What do you think about?

Hmm. Looks like you have to try add something to your config. Like maybe
    Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
    Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps"
You can also change XkbRules to xorg instead of xfree86.
I've googled around but most answers are in a language I don't understand :-)
