OVM Manager 3.1 - Advanced Setup / override

Hello All,
I'm curious to know if there is a way to override the the OVM Production Installation. In short, I already have a weblogic server installed on the same server where I'm deploying the manager, yet the installation goes and installed another one.
Just out of curiosity, is there a way to edit some file OR set some environment variables that would change this ?
Thanks
Jan S.

There isn't a way to load the ovm console into an existing weblogic doman. At least not one that I know of. You could make your MV Manager virtual and run it in your VM environment.

  • OVM Manager 3.0.1. Setup: Create a Server Pool

I am new to OVM, sorry.
I would like to do the initial setup of OVM Manager to be able to create virtual machines. I followed the OVM user's guide in chapter 4.5 to create a server pool, but didn't succeed.
I set up my OVM Server having a shared NFS directory, later planned to be on a separate RAID volume, but OVM Manager does not detect the NFS directory.
On the OVM Manager host I can mount the NFS directory via "mount -t nfs ovm-srv:/share /test".
    Who can help?

You need all the NFS mount points to be visible inside the UI before they can be used to create a server pool. Keep in mind that you will need a dedicated mount for the cluster/heartbeat. It cannot also be used for repository storage like in 2.2. So, you can make that mount pretty small (10GB should be fine).

  • OVM Manager w 2nd NIC = A port conflict was detected in the server config

    Greetings,
    ENV: Oracle VM 3.1.1.544.
Issue: We had to add/setup a second interface/NIC on a second subnet on Oracle VM Manager. Now, when ovmm is started, we get: <A port conflict was detected in the server configuration. The server is configured to listen on two ports that have the same port number and IP address. Channel "https" address "https://fe80:0:0:0:26b6:fdff:fec8:f4b1:7002" conflicts with channel "https" address "https://fe80:0:0:0:26b6:fdff:fec8:f4b1:7002".>

Action: Please ensure that the address identities [ListenAddress and ListenPort combinations] are distinct and unique.
Would you happen to know which file, (i.e. config.xml), and which lines (i.e. <listen-address>) we need to edit, with the correct syntax to add a second IP address/subnet to our WebLogic server?
Thank you in advance for your support!
    Regards,

    Thank you for your support!
    1. What version of Linux? OL 62 x64
    2. Have you set a separate DNS name for the second interface IP? No, although we are using/setup dnsmasq on the second interface/eth3 to dish up DNS on the private network. DNS name resolutions works like a charm on the private vlan.
    3. Do you still have a single default route or are you trying to use more than one? The second interface is in a private unroutable network. the front end network/NIC eth0 is routable and on a public network.
    Public/Private Network Setup:
    * Public network with oracle vm manager on eth0/10.4.x.x. This is how we access the ovm manager GUI, and ssh to manager, and via manager ssh to the dom0s. The dom0s are on private nonroutable networks available via the manager host's eth3.
    * Private networks accessible via the oracle vm manager host eth3/802.1q/VLAN xxx. this is the server management network channel, this vlan is not routable. We have two other vlans, i.e. heartbeat and live migration, both also not routable.
    Thoughts?

  • I need a non-iso image of the OVM-Manager 2.2.2 install

An application development group has set up an OVS 2.2 environment and has asked my help to install and setup and OVM-Manager that works with it on a LINUX VM that they they have. The only OVM-Manager 2.2.x I have is an ISO, but I dont have access to the console/DVD as the VM is in Utah.
What are my options? Is there a way to mount and install an ISO locally? (IE: copy the ISO image to a local filesystem on the machine and mount it, and install?) Or is there a non-ISO install package?
    Thanks

    Do something like this:
    mount -o loop ovm-mgr.iso /mnt/disk
    cd /mnt/disk
    <do the install>
Or Google for something like "mount -o loop iso", and read all about it.

  • OVM Manager 2.2 - not starting after server move

I have installed and configured OVS 2.2 and OVM Manager 2.2 and had all working and had everything running fine (I am having to use these versions to be compliant with the templates I wish to install)
I then shut down everything and moved the server to its new location in the rack, plugged it all in and restarted and now I can no longer browse to the OVM Manager.
I know very little about linux and oracle vm but assumed as I can no longer ping the Manager vm that it wasnt started, when I look in the /var/log/xen/qemu-dm-pid.log I see the following
Warning: vlan 0 is not connected to host network
    as the first line.
The only network change that I am aware of is the host machine now has multiple network cards connected where it only had one connected on initial setup.
Any pointers on where to start are welcome...

Create symbolic link to the "vm.cfg" in "/etc/xen/auto" e.g.
    ln -s /OVS/vm-name/vm.cfg /etc/xen/auto/vm-name
    [root@ovm222 ~]# cat /etc/ovs-release
    Oracle VM server release 2.2.2
    [root@ovm222 ~]# chkconfig --list xendomains
    xendomains 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
    [root@ovm222 ~]# grep ^XENDOMAINS_AUTO= /etc/sysconfig/xendomains
    XENDOMAINS_AUTO=/etc/xen/auto
FYI XENDOMAINS_SAVE should be undefined unless you want to save on shutdown e.g.
    [root@denovm22 ~]# grep ^#XENDOMAINS_SAVE /etc/sysconfig/xendomains
    #XENDOMAINS_SAVE=/var/lib/xen/save

    Thank you in advance
    Gregory

This really sounds like this nasty timeout issue, which had its first appearances in the early builds of OVM 3.0.3 and prevented e.g. the creation of rather large storage repositories over iSCSI when using a standard 1 GBit connection. The command would simply timeout on the OVMM after 120 secs, rather than waiting for the ovs-agent to report back…
In OVM 3.1.1 (368) this timeout had been upped to 10 mins, but I knew that this only would last for months… and I told Oracle Support so, but eh… you know… ;)

  • OVM-Manager 2.2 doesn't gets updated properly.

    hi,
i have ovm 2.2 setup consist of 4 servers in cluster.
whenever any of the servers get rebooted. The guest vm gets restarted on the next available resource server.
And now in the OVM-Manager side i see all the guest tht got restarted on the next available resource server shows the status as "UNKNOWN"
    OVM-Manager doesn't gets updated properly.
currently in all my vm servers i have ovs-agent version "ovs-agent-2.3-27"
    please suggest....

    hi Avi,
    thks for your reply..
    i had upgraded ovs-agent form 2.3-27 to 2.3-31.
i noticted one thing which commom for both ovs-agent version
VIP doesn’t works properly using any of the ovs-agent version (2.3-27 nor 2.3-31)
Whenever VIP is enabled it leads to two major problems.
1)Disturbs the Server Pool HA. It works initially and then start showing unusual behavior .
    2)OVM-Manager doesn’t gets updated.
Hence the whole setup is disturbed.
But when only Server Pool HA is enabled & NOT VIP everything works properly .i.e. HA across the Pool & even ovm-manager gets updated time to time.
Seems there is still some bug in the ovs-agent 2.3-31 also especially for VIP.

  • Install questions on OVM Manager  and Oracle Linux

I installed OVM Server 3.0.3 on a 64-bit server class box.
Getting tight with a spare box, I tried to install OVM Manager on the Oracle VirtualBox as a VM and also to install it on the top of OVM Server on the same hardware box but neither has been successful.
So, I'm thinking of rather installing OVM Manager on one of my laptops.
Before proceeding to wipe out the data on my laptop, I'd like to check couple of things:
    1. I take it that the 32-bit OVM Manager should have no problem working with 64-bit OVM Server, correct?
    2. The OVM Manager itself doesn't include with a bootable Linux image and should be installed on the top of a pre-installed Linux (e.g., Oracle Linux), so I need to install Oracle Linux first on my laptop and install OVM Manager on top of it, right?
Thanks for your help in advance!

You'll need at least 4GB of RAM for the Manager for a test/development environment, with 8GB+ recommended for Production, to cover both Oracle Database SE and Oracle WebLogic.

  • Adding an OVM server back into OVM Manager after a reload

We have created a sandbox environment to test Oracle virtualization and had 2 physical servers setup. One running Oracle OVM and the other Oracle Linux. The Oracle Linux box had OVM Manager installed and was using local storage for the repository.
After about a month of running the Oracle Linux box was reloaded without saving any of the OVM Manager configuration information. After reloading the Oracle Linux box and installing OVM Manager my first issue was adding the OVM server back into a pool. We were getting the error that it was already being managed by another host. After a quick search of the Oracle forum I found a post suggesting that we stop the ovs-agent on the OVM box and remove a file.
    These were the commands:
    # service ovs-agent stop
    # rm /etc/ovs-agent/db/server
    # service ovs-agent start
After doing this I was able to discover and add the server into a pool. The next issue was when I went to look at the virtual machines hosted on the OVM machine. All 6 of the virtual machines that were created now show as "orphan_004fb0000060000...". In digging around I noticed that the repository for the local storage was not setup so when I go to try add the local disk back as a repository and I select "create a data repository: select physical disk" it comes back as blank.
If I click the storage tab and look under local file systems I see the disk and it has location repository specified and server listed under presented servers.
I am thinking the mapping is somehow messed up after adding the host back to a new OVM Manager and I need to relink the storage to the repository but am a little lost as to how to accomplish this.
I am trying to avoid reloading the entire OVM server so I don't lose the work already done with the existing virtual machines.

  • "Failed to retrieve data from OVM Manager"

I'm trying to setup Cloud Control 12c Private Cloud environment. My machines in OVM pool have local disks so there is a repository per physical machine, plus one shared repository on NFS (OVM lists all those repositories in its UI)
When I try to navigate to VM Manager->Administration->Storage Repository page here is an error dialog I get:
"Failed to retrieve data from OVM Manager. Please check log file for details"
I've tried performing VM Manager->Synchronize, but that didn't help.
Let me note that I can go to other pages like Administration->Network without any problem.
What is a log file to look into? I tried looking under /u01/app/oracle/Middleware/oms/sysman/log but found nothing useful.

    Hi Diptesh,
What is your crystal reports version ? CRXI or higher?
And does your filter bject consists of apostrophie s fields?
If this is the case then this is a known issue try installing the latest service packs or fix packs to see if it resolves the issue?
    Regards,
    Vinay

  • Does OVM Manager require access to SAN/NAS VLAN

    Hello everyone,
In our setup OVM Manager is installed on its own physical server, using for storage the local disk. Does the storage discovering process requires OVM Manager to have access to the SAN/NAS VLAN, or is this going through the OVM Servers again as it happens during the initial servers' discovering?
    Thanks,
    Nikos

    Hi Nikos,
no, the OVMM doesn't need access to any of the storages the OMV servers are connected to. It is all done through the ovs-agents running on the OVM servers. Those query the hardware and available storage upon the discovery process.
    Cheers,
    budy

  • Exporting existing management packs to new setup ?

Need to deploy new instance of SCOM 2012;but, need to keep the same monitoring of the environment as setup in SCOM 2007 R2.
What should be the right and effective approach regards to management packs :
    1. Is it OK to simply export and import existing managements packs and override management packs ?
    2. Should be download the latest management packs and import the existing override management packs ?
    3. Download the latest management pack and create new override as per old override management packs ?
    Amanpreet Singh Bansal

To migrate management pack, it will be good to download the latest management packs and import the existing override management pack
For more details, you can refer below link
