OVS 2.2.2 and HP G7

Hello guys
I would like to install ovs on a HP Proliant DL385 G7
Is this materials supported for ovs 2.2.2 ?
Is there also notes on supported hardware for ovs ?
thanks

Why would you want to run 2.2? The latest stable is 3.1.1 and 3.2.1 is about to release.

  • OVS repositories, PV drivers, and more

    I've been working on a cluster for a poc for quite some time now. Things work ok overall, but I have a short list of items that I need to resolve.
    Using version 2.2.
    1. my ovs repository is nfs but does not mount at boot time. I am guessing perhaps my nodes network interfaces aren't online when the ovs tries to mount the nas device. Regardless, I have to run "service ovs-agent restart" after a reboot to mount my OVS.
    2. Most of our vm's are OEL 5, but there are a few requests for windows vm's. We have installed the pv drivers on some without issues. On another, once we start using the pv drivers, all hell breaks loose. Specifically, we get a blue screen right after a login to the windows vm. It's running windows 2003.
    3. We've seen some of our windows vm's become corrupted for no obvious reason. At boot time, we get a message that there is corruption, that we should reboot into the windows install cd and try a repair. Great idea, but no matter what I try, I can't get the vm to latch onto the iso. I go into the Configure tab and select Storage, Boot Device/CDROM and select cdrom as boot with my iso selected. Sure enough, it won't boot the iso. This seems so simple, but how do I force a vm to boot into an iso and not the hard drive??
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks! That got us on the right path.  Turning off TCP Offloading didn't help, but I turned off all of the offloads and it fixed it.  I just have narrow down which one was the magic bullet.
    You just got our project back on track!

  • How to start virtual OVM Manager and restore server pool which hosts it?

    It had to happen... the day I migrate our OVM Manager from an ESX host into an Oracle VM, we have a massive NetApp outage, and everything fails to come back. As a result of having lock errors when trying to start any VMs I noted on the forum various solutions and ended up following the steps concerning stopping ovs-agent and removal of /etc/ovs-agent/db/* on all the servers. Next I re-added the repo to all the servers using repos.py, but of course now none of the servers are in a pool so the --list command shows them as [R] rather than [*], and the /OVS directory is not yet mapped. So the next stage, according to the instructions which I am following, describes using the 'Restore' option in the OVM Manager GUI. Given that /OVS is not mounted and all of the servers are now config-less, I can't see how I can start the OVM Manager VM to get to the aforementioned "restore" option...
    Thank Jeebus I kept the ESX copy of OVM manager on (but powered down), as I was able to fire it up and do the restore, and now everything is hunky dory. However, this is our Dev platform and I was going to build the Prod platform and deploy OVM Manager straight into the OVM architecture via the template, rather than having it on ESX, but this issue on the Dev install has made me think twice about the mobius nature of managing the VM architecture from within the VM architecture...
    I am assuming I am missing some sort of commandline knowledge, so... given:
    - empty db directory
    - root repos [R] on all servers
    - as yet unmapped /OVS
    ...how to get the server pool up and get something back into /OVS, and then start my OVM Manager VM so I can 'restore'? Is it even possible? because if it isn't, I'll be blowed if the Prod OVM manager is going to get deployed like this...
    And no, there's no money in the budget for extra tin just to sit there running the OVM Manager and nothing else.
    TIA
    Kev

    Still nobody seems to know of how to create a server pool on the CLI (outside of OVM Manager) though...There is no way to create a server pool on the CLI without Oracle VM Manager. You either need to use the Web UI of the Manager, or use the ovmcli command-line tool. Both of those require Oracle VM Manager to be running.
    However, once the Pool is created, you do not need the Manager to be running to perform simple tasks like starting/stopping guests. That can be done with the xm command-line tool.
    I agree with you about running VM Manager as a guest of the Oracle VM Server: I actually don't recommend this in production, unless you have at least two Server Pools. Then you can have the Manager of Pool A hosted by Pool B and vice-versa. Most often however, I recommend a completely independent Manager machine, either physical or hosted on a separate virtualization stack.

  • How to install and where to get kernal source for Oracle VM Server

    Hi guys
    Can someone point me in the right direction for oracle VM Server kernal source, as the server I am using won't ping, and found its cause it doesnt recognise the network adapter, says there is no drivers.
    But the HP website states I have to have the kernal source install so that I can build the driver.
    Any suggestions or help on the matter?
    Thanks

    Thanks
    I got my server to ping.
    Now I have ran into more trouble.
    I have been following ORacles installation guide for installing a Virtual Machine, but am struggling to install it, as their instructions don't match whats on the screen.
    They tell you to copy each CD into a directory.....
    and then mount that directory as an NFS mount.
    I done all that
    and then it tells u to do virt-install
    So I do that, and it all works great, until the end part, its mean to ask you what is your installation souce directory , and your supposed to put nfs:selfhostname_ip_address:/path/to/files
    and away you go.
    However my server says " what would you like to use as your virtual CD image"
    and so I type nfs:server_ip_address:/path/to/files etc, and I get the error CD MUST EXIST
    so to get around this, I just typed /OVS/iso_pool/Disc1.img
    and away we go, instlalation starts....
    However THe instlalation then asks for disc 2, and then I get stuck, how do I tell it, that I changed the disc, and its ready?
    I tried an installation of mounting the disc1 iso from a cd to /mnt
    and then wen it wanted disc 2 I dont umount -l /mnt ...it said inodes busy, so I just forced the eject CD physically ont he drive
    and then mount /dev/cdrom /mnt , for disc3
    but it didn't detect I changed a cd.
    Can anyone help me, its really urgent have to get this server up and running by today if possible.

  • Cannot keep Server up and running. Shutdown requested by OVM. The system is going down for system halt NOW!

    I have OVS 3.x.x and OVM 3.x.x running on the same physical server.  I had some issues trying to configure storage via OVM and  I issued a shutdown (I think) from the OVM Web Interface.  Now I am unable to keep the server up and running.  Everytime I turn on the server, after Oracle VM Manager starts, it shuts down the server automatically within a minute or two after startup.
    I am able  to login to the server via Putty and stop ovmm service manually.  When Oracle VM Manager service is stopped, (SERVICE OVMM STOP) the server does not shutdown automatically.  However as soon as I restart the OVMM service, it shuts down the server with message...
    Shutdown requested by OVM. The system is going down for system halt NOW!
    How do I find out what is causing OVM to issue the shutdown command and edit and fix via command line?

    Since your server was continually rebooting, do you remember if you issued a shutdown or reboot from OVM web interface?  Mine was just shutting down.  Have you tried to use the Oracle Virtual Manage Web Interface to either reboot or shutdown the server after your upgrade to 3.2.4?  FYI I do not have support.  This is my sandbox.

  • Problem with OVS search result table..pls hlp

    Hi friends,
    I have crated  an OVS search help. .and its working fine when i hit F4.
    but when i hit search button.. the result table is showing more number of rows(blank), though the result has just 2 records returned.
    there are many no of blank rows. i wnat to get rid of this.
    i also tried to give the default no of rows in my componet (OVS), layout table.
    but still its not decreasing.
    can someone help me howto solve this.
    Niraja

    Hi Niraja,
    When you implement event handler for OVS search, you must have seen the code that gets automatically generated when you assign OVS event to that event handler. i.e.
    case ovs_callback_object->phase_indicator.
      THE FIRST PHASE WHICH SET CONFIG PARAMETERS
    when if_wd_ovs=>co_phase_0.  "configuration phase, may be omitted
        in this phase you have the possibility to define the texts,
        if you do not want to use the defaults (DDIC-texts).....
    and so on.......
    so here inside co_phase_0 you can set the requried data by calling this method:
    ovs_callback_object->set_configuration(
                    label_texts  = lt_label_texts
                    column_texts = lt_column_texts
                    group_header = lv_group_header
                    window_title = lv_window_title
                    table_header = lv_table_header
                    col_count    = 2
                   row_count    = 20 ).
    Here I have hard coded no. of rows to 20 you can just set it to variable which may be holding your rowcount.
    I hope this will help you.

  • Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1 will not delete a malfunctioning OVS server

    We have a Oracle VM 3.1.1 environment up and running. We were able to add 4 servers to a clustered pool without issue. But when we got to the 5th box we ran into an issue. We got it up all the ports bonded but realized we had a SAN level issue. Since then we have been trying to delete the server that is now offline due to that issue. It appears I can not remove the server from VM Manager because it can no longer communicate with the ovs-agent. How do I delete a server that's already defined in the environment but no longer exists?
    We have attempted to recreate and readd the host with the same name and IP address but cant control the server. It shows up but is in a constant "starting" state. We can not delete, edit, or modify any aspect of the server from bonded ports.
    The server is current stuck in Unassigned Servers. It's prevent us from modifying or using several of our VLANs to due assigned ports that no longer exist. No VM's exist on any server.
    We have rebooted the OVM Manager, we have restarted the OVS servers, acknowledged, we have stopped the services & cleared the /etc/ovs-agent/db folder, and just about anything we can think of.
    Can anyone assist us? We have logged an SR but havent heard back from them. This is a major issue for us as we have a dozen people waiting on this environment standup and are currently completely dead in the water.
    When we try and delete the server we receive the following error.

    Did you unpresent the repository from the OVS server? Try to remove the OVS server from the serverpool AFTER unpresenting the repository.
    If this is successful, you may be able to delete the problem server.
    There is a more drastic solution that worked with OVM 3.0.1 which involved reinstalling OVM Manager with the repository uuid. This rebuilt the database cleanly but dropped the friendly names leaving only uuids. Perhaps you may not have to do this if unpresenting the repository works.

  • How to create/configure an OVS for a custom BO?

    I have created a new BO with three elements (ID, Name, FilterCriteria).
    For this BO I created a Query (QueryByElements):
    - Selection: ID, Name, FilterCriteria
    - Basic Find: ID, Name
    - Result: ID, Name, Filtercriteria
    After this I created an OVS for this BO.
    In DataModel Tab I bound the Items Node of the OVS to the Query Node of the BO, OVS:ObjectID -> Query:ID, OVS:ObjectName -> Query:Name and OVS:FilterCriteria -> Query:FilterCriteria.
    Next i created a structure in the OVS with the data fields: ID, Name, FilterCriteria and SerchText.
    In the Controller Tab I bound the ValueHelpQuery of the OVS to the (new) Query of the BO with this parameters:
    - ID : /Root/Structure/ID
    - Name : /Root/Structure/Name
    - SearchText : /Root/Structure/SearchText
    - FilterCriteria : /Root/Structure/FilterCriteria
    Inport:
    - ID : /Root/Structure/ID
    - Name : /Root/Structure/Name
    - SearchText : /Root/Structure/SearchText
    - FilterCriteria : /Root/Structure/FilterCriteria
    - + standard parameters like ParentComponent...
    Outport:
    - ObjectId : /Root/Items/ObjectId
    - ObjectName : /Root/Items/ObjectName
    With this configuration I get a correct value suggestion when I am typing in the field, and when i select a value from the drop down list the value is transferred to the field.
    But, if I open the screen:
    - the search is not working, I always see all values.
    - if I select a row, the value is not transferred to the field. the field is empty.
    I tried it without the FilterCriteria in the parameters and inport, but id shown the same behavior...
    Do you have any idea to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Eduard

    suddenly the transfer of the selected value from OVS UI to the fiels is working... I didn't change anything.
    But the search in the OVS UI is still not working. Has someone any ideas how to fix it?

  • Change OVS text Advanced Search

    Hello.
    Someone knows how to change the text from label in OVS (Advanced Seach) to other language ?
    We have a webdynpro project using the OVS (Obejct Value Selector) and we need to change the label Advanced Search in OVS to portuguese !

    Hi,
    Please refer to the link for OVS related information:
    /docs/DOC-8061#51 [original link is broken]
    For changing the text to portugese, u can create a message in the messagePool (pg_textHeader) with the property "text" and enter the portugese text content.
    In the UI bind the header to an attribute (say headerText) which takes the value dynamically.
    In code, u can set the value of the attribute using the line:
    IWDTextAccessor textAccessor = wdComponentAPI.getTextAccessor();
    String headerOVS = textAccessor.getText("pg_headerText");
    wdContext.currentContext.setHeaderText(headerOVS);

  • Unwanted Fields in OVS outputQuery UI

    Hello,
    I have build a very simple OVS help in web dynpro application.
    Now I am using a RFC which fetched data from PA001 HR table which contains a lot of standard field columns.
    Our ABAPer has built the RFC where he has directly used PA001 as table and giving output for all the columns.
    Now when I import this RFC as model in my application, It brings all fields for PA001 table with it.
    When I define usage and bind context data from my custom controller to created model for RFC, I am selecting only fields that I want and unchecking all unwanted fields.
    Now the problem is:
    The fields that I have not selected while context binding are actually also getting displayed in output table section of user interface of OVS.
    My OVS is working fine and correctly fetching records as per search query, nut it is giving output for all fields from PA001.
    i.e. even for all fields that I have not selected while context binding.
    Please throw some light on the same.
    Thanking you in anticipation.

    Hello Sayan,
    Above statement confuses me a bit.
    Normal work process of OVS is :
    1. User enters a query string in input boxes og OVS UI.
    2. User presses the Go button.
    3. This is the moment when RFC is called...and based on input from user..it fetches data from R/3 and then displayes it in table.
    Now in your statement above when you say:
    " everytime you need to repopulate the source"
    do you refer to step 3.
    Because if you refer to step 3...then I think better approach to actually to call the RFC as user input might change every time user hits the Go button.
    I hope you are not refering to step 3....when you say " everytime you need to repopulate the source".
    Because in that case I would like to know what does repopulating of node refer to.....as I can also use this somewhere in my application to increase performance.
    However, the other part of your answer clears all the doubts in my mind and completely answers my original question.
    Thank You...
    (I will be waiting for your reply...then only i will mark it as answered)

  • Is there any alternative for OVS ?

    Hi All,
        I am looking for alternative method to implement help option to multiple input fields. So, I wanted to ask memebers of this forum if there is any alternative approach to achieve this functionality as I find implementing OVS is very confusing and time consuming.
    Kindly suggest me if there is any alternate option if available. I tried Hotel Reservation example and flight reservation examples.
    Kindly suggest me any new methods.
    Thanks
    Uday

    I would first develop a view which will act as your value selector (I would use a table UI element with filtering capabilities)
    Then embed this view in a window so it can be shown as a popup using code in the onEnter event, like
    IWDWindowInfo winInfo = (IWDWindowInfo)wdComponentAPI.getComponentInfo().findInWindows("YourValueSelectorWindow");
    IWDWindow     win     = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager().createModalWindow(winInfo);
    win.setWindowPosition (<left_relativ_to_your_inputfield>, <top_relative_to_your_inputfield>);
    win.setWindowSize (<width>,<height>);
    win.show();
    In this window bind your table UI element to the context of your source data, implement filtering capabilities, and upon selection pass the desired value back to the parent inputfield and closing the popup window.

    Range of values
    Any valid local path, directory, or disk
    BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST specifies the pathname (directory or disc) where debugging trace files for the background processes (LGWR, DBWn, and so on) are written during Oracle operations.
    An alert file in the directory specified by BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST logs significant database events and messages. Anything that affects the database instance or global database is recorded here. The alert file is a normal text file. Its filename is operating system-dependent. For platforms that support multiple instances, it takes the form alert_sid.log, where sid is the system identifier. This file grows slowly, but without limit, so you might want to delete it periodically. You can delete the file even when the database is running.

  • OVS 2.2.2 - change ntp server

    Hi all,
    Would like to get some advice on changing the ntp server on our ovs 2.2.2 and ovm 2.2.2 hosts. Due to an oversight, our ntp server was decommissioned some time ago and as it stands now, our ovs/ovm hosts are about 30 minutes behind the current (new) ntp server.
    What would be the sequence of changing the ntp servers on the hosts? Do I change the master server first and then the rest of the ovs hosts with the manager last? Or the manager first, followed by the master server and the rest?
    Do I need to take each host into maintenance mode before changing the ntp server on each? But if I do that, then the master server changes if I take it into maintenance. Unless I don't need to change the setting on each hosts in any particular order.
    My worry is once a host syncs with the new ntp server, the 30 minute difference can cause some issues.
    Your advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply. I was hoping the 30 minute difference wouldn't be a an issue. If it was just a few minutes, i would have "ntpd'ed" them already.
    But thought I'll check here to see if there could be any idiosyncracies in ovs 2.2.2 that may spit the dummy if one of them is suddenly 30 minutes ahead.
    Thanks again.

  • Monitoring OVM - OVS Agent/ILO Agent etc

    Got three Oracle T3-2 (4170) servers acting as OV Servers (running 3.2.8).
    I understand that, for monitoring, an ovs agent is installed as part of the OV Server installation.
    However, going into ilo for these servers, its telling me :-
    "Comprehensive System monitoring is not available. Ensure the host is running with the Hardware Management Pack. For download details go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/servermgmt/downloads/index.html"
    So do  I need this as well?
    Bit unclear on best way to monitor these servers...

    Well… there are a number of options. The first and - from Oracle's perspective - obvious one would be to go with OEM and monitor your OVM in there. However, OEM is a monster and we decided not to use it.
    Instead, we are monitoring our OVS using the check_mk_agent and a number of self-crafted montoring addons, which gives a a really nice overview, plus notifications for our OVM setup. Note though, that this is also  nothing that you can get straight out of the box.
