OWA: All attachmnents present message "The file contained a virus and was deleted"

I have a remote client that encounters the following message using OWA-"The file contained a virus and has been deleted". The range of impact includes all files.  Note, the end user has no issue when using an alternate mail systems and browser
based client with the same attachment(s).
The device in question is Windows 8 with the IE 10 browser.
I look forward to and welcome your feedback.

twisdt52

Hi Twisdt52,
Does the issue occurs with other browser such as Chrome or Firefox?
I would like to suggest you try the following:
1.Run Internet Explorer with “no-add-ons” model.
a. Open Start Menu, then click all programs, select Accessories, open the system tools;
b. Right-click Internet Explorer(No Add-ons), run as Administrator.
2. Boot in Clean Boot and Safe Mode to exclude third party software conflicts.

Advanced startup options (including safe mode):

3.Reset the Internet Explorer. Click Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - Reset
4. Add the site into Trust Sites for a test

  • I have tried to download the updated itunes and i keep getting the itunes contained a virus and was deleted. How do I fix this?

I keep getting the saying itunes64Setup contained a virus and was deleted does anyone know how to possible fix this?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod/iphone/ipad:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • When trying to download Firefox 7, I receive the error message "Firefox Setup 7.0.1.exe contained a virus and was deleted". I tried to disable my sercuity software (ESET) and have Windows Defender shut off, but still receive this message.

I just got a new computer and am preparing my old computer to give to my nephew. The old machine runs system 7 and was running FF 7.0.1. I completely removed Firefox to erase all of my data. When I tried to reinstall Firefox, I began getting this error message.

I have tried shutting down my anti-virus software, to include Windows Defender, but it didn't help. I am running the AVG free anti-virus.
But you still got the message? If so, you didn't get everything shut down. Something has to be giving you that message.
More than likely, it's a false-positive. Happens quite a bit with updates when the AV companies haven't caught up with their definitions.
If you didn't get the message after disabling all your AV stuff, what DID happen?

  • Every time i try to download something i get a message that it contains a virus and has been deleted

everytime i try to download something i get a message saying it contains a virus and has been deleted

if you are downloading from the Adobe site, your antivirus software may be giving a false positive. Is it up to date ?

  • How can I save or export the file containing stored usernames and passwords?

I'm about to update my desktop computer's operating system, which will mean my hard drive will be wiped. I want to save any file Firefox might have that contains usernames and passwords so I don't have to rebuild that file once Firefox is reinstalled. I've found such files for extensions and bookmarks but not for passwords.

    In article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_Manager#Backing_up_and_restoring_passwords

**You can rename '''''signons.sqlite''''' to signons.sqlite.sav to make Firefox '''''3.5+''''' versions use the file signons#.txt from a previous Firefox 3 or 2 version.

  • Install_flashplayer11x32ax_gtbd_chrd_dn_aaa_aih.exe contains virus and was deleted

i keep getting this message when i try to update my flashplayer from your website.  none of the faq's reference this. what is wrong?

"False positive" is the term for it. Flash Player conatins no virus.
There has been a rash of "repairware" lately, that attempts to steer people to unscrupulous sites to "fix" what they put on your computer in the first place. It often will disable your antivirus, and EVERYTHING you try to download is suddenyl flagged as "containing a virus" sometimes with a link to "Fix this now".
Run a thorough scan of your system and if need be download TDSSKIller from Kaspersky to check for other trojans.
Download the Adobe Flash Player installer directly by right clicking one of the following links and seelcting "Save target as" or "Save link as".
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Save them, and THEN run them. If you see a "virus" warning with either download, that'll be proof that your system is compromised.

  • ??? this file contains a virus and has been deleted

I get this message intermittently and over time - many, many times!  We've run MalWareBytes, severl virus scans - more than once.  Nothing is ever found.
What is wrong?  We think the product is Adobe Reader but not sure. It definitely happens with trying to download PDF's, but it also happens when attempting to download pre-recorded videos from our training dept.
We have consumed hours working on this with technical experts and nothing solves the problem.  It is preventing me from doing my work!
    Maggie

Thank you Claudio.  Our technical experts have literally tried everything – other than removing all my s/w and re-installing which would be a massive effort.  It is very frustrating, but your message is helpful.  Thanks for taking the time.

  • IE8/9 says every file "contained a file and was deleted"

I have multiple computers on my domain that will not download files or attachments in IE8 and 9.  It says "<filename> contained a virus and was deleted".  Everything will download fine in Chrome and Firefox and these files do not contain
viruses - it happens on every file I try to download, or every attachment in all emails.
Is there a setting in IE that is causing this - it is happening on about 30 computers out of 100 in our domain - all with the same group policy settings for IE.
We are clueless and frustrated to figure this out and ready to just roll out Chrome to everybody to fix the problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

IT WORKED!!! Finally I found the correct way to solve it! I had the same problem, I couldn't download anything from internet from Internet Explorer 9 (I even disinstalled it and tried IE8, but there was always the same problem) and from Firefox. Chrome instead
worked normally. I disinstalled all the latest security windows updates, but nothing changed. I had AVG free, I disinstalled it, but, again, nothing changed. I tried all the antivirus, antimalware and I couldn't find anything. At the end I found this post,
I launched the System Startup Tool (from the advanced settings of Spybot Search & Destroy) and I found that despite I had disinstalled AVG I still had 3 entries in the list:

    command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2012\avgtray.exe"

    command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG10\Notification\SPCheckerTE.exe"
       file: C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG10\Notification\SPCheckerTE.exe
I disabled them, I deleted the AVG folder in  C:\Program Files (still there despite disinstallation) and I could download again from IE9. No more Safety scan messages of the IE Downloader telling me that the file had a virus inside (whatever the file
    was)...
Thank to this post by the way. No where else I could find the solution.

Found the solution. The hardrive name was changed to "/" which is not a recognised file path character. So I changed the name to "Mac" then I was able to already open all files in excel and word
