OWA search breaks periodically

Hi,
We have an intermittent and recurrent search issue for OWA clients. Search returns the error:
"Action couldn't be completed, please try again"
I follow the steps here and it resolves the issue for a few weeks and it occurs again:
hxxp://www.tomlecluse.be/blog/20130705/searching-exchange-server-2010-owa-returns-action-couldnt-be-completed-please-try
This only affects OWA users and search in an outlook client works fine.
Single exchange server patched to:
Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2010 SP3
May 27, 2014
14.03.0195.001
Running on server 2012.
So we have a work around, I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to pinpoint the cause so we can resolve for good?

Hi,
Please check the application log and see if there is any warning or error information related to Exchange index.
What's more, you can rebuild the index catalog and check the result.
Here is an article for your reference.
How to Rebuild the Full-Text Index Catalog (Note: Though it is Exchange 2007, it also applies to Exchange 2010 about this issue)

Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • E2010 SP3RU5 OWA search not working

We have 2 virtual CAS, 2 virtual HT, and 1 physical MBX role, all in one AD site. Exchange build is 14.3.181.006.
We've started to get complaints that OWA search isn't working - it doesn't return any results for items which are manually located in the mailbox... however whenever I test it from my client, it works fine. I've seen them perform the process and it is the
exact same steps I'm using. They advise it has worked for them in the past, however.
We recently (moves completed about two weeks ago, relocated one database to another local LUN last Friday) went through a process of moving all the mailboxes from a single large database to multiple smaller databases. All of our databases have IndexEnabled,
    though.
Is there a way to locate the content index health for the databases? Should I stop the Search Indexer service, delete the catalog folders, and then restart the service?
    Other suggestions?

    Hi,
Please check if you have a database in which all the users can search well in OWA.
If there is, I recommend you move one affected user to this database and then check if the issue persists.
Based on your description, you could search in OWA, you can also move affected user to the mailbox database where your mailbox is.
We can check steps above to narrow down the issue and see if this issue is related to the catalog file of database.
Besides, I recommend you check if users can search in Outlook

  • How to search for 'period single space any letter' in find/change

Hi, i'd like to check my document to make sure that between all periods and first words of a sentence there are not single spaces but double spaces.  Is there a way to search for any instances of single spaces that appear after a period?

Firstly, when I said InDesign inflates the space I didn't mean it whacked in a great chunk of space. It just gives a little bit more air relative to the fit of the text around it. You may not always see any noticeable difference. But when I read a book I don't want to see obvious white spaces at the start of every sentence. As long as the full point and following capital letter register on my brain fast enough that I am reading a new sentence, that's good enough for me. I think it makes reading more fluid. If you want to see extra space at the start of a sentence, then it's probably best to carry on with your double spacebar - unless you want to try something more exotic like a fixed width space.
I didn't mean you to literally type <full point><space><any character> into the find. I was just trying to tell you what to input. Type the full point, hit the spacebar, and then use the options list to the right of the find field (shown as a @), select "Wildcards", then select "any character". What you should see in your find field is . ^?
You could then enter .  ^?      - that's two spaces. See why I spelled it out as <space>? -  into the change to field.

  • Calendar - search with period?

This knowledge base article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4337#Remove_Unusable_and_Duplicate_Events) instructs one to list all events from a selected calendar by entering a period in the search field.  I wish that worked.  However, for me it only finds events that contain a period somewhere in them.  I think this article is dealing with old versions or something.  Is there any way that currently works to show all events in the list?

    Hi Dessicator,
I never knew you could search for events. Very interesting! How to list all events in the search?

  • OWA Search not working

    Hi guys,
    I've came across this one with my Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6 (14.3.195.1)
I've followed all the indication in similar posts which relates to SP1. I ran exchange setup with prepareAD & prepareSchema options but the problem persists.
I managed to reset the Search indexes and fixed it but the problem later on came back.

This one is pulling the hair off me guys. Any help will be very appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Frank,
You will need to execute a script on the affected Mailbox servers that reinstalls the symbolic links:
    Download the script
    Repair-ExchangeSearchSymlinks.ps1 from the Script Center.
Copy the Repair-ExchangeSearchSymlinks.ps1 script to the Scripts directory on the Mailbox server (default installation is C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\v14\Scripts).
On the afflicted Mailbox server, open the Exchange Management Shell by right-clicking the shortcut and selecting
    “Run as Administrator”.
Within the Exchange Management Shell, navigate to the Exchange Scripts directory.
Within the Exchange Management Shell, run the following script:
    .\Repair-ExchangeSearchSymlinks.ps1
Within the Exchange Management Shell, run the following script (without the symbols [] and substitute the database name(s) for any databases you wish to reset:
    .\ResetSearchIndex.ps1 [-force] <dbname> [<dbname>]...
You will receive an Event ID 109 when the rebuilding of the index starts for each database and an
Event ID 110 for each database when the index rebuild has completed.
After receiving Event ID 110 for each database, test to make sure search functions correctly with both OWA and Outlook operating in Online Mode.

  • Delete Exchange 2013 OWA search history

    Hi all,
is there an option to delete the search history in OWA 2013 for some Mailboxes or all users in the database?
    Thanks for reply.
    Best regards
    Malte

Exchange 2013 Search is based on Browser, hence it will be saved in browser rather on the server.
If it's on all the client machine than create a Group Policy to delete the Form Data.

  • OWA Page breaks after Installing the Rollup 11 on Exchange 2007 SP3

I have applied the Update Rollup 11 on my Exchange 2007 SP3 and after updating the Rollup  I am able to login to OWA but the it has broken the graphics and all the folders with X icon and cant get inside the folder/mail.
We use RSA token for the sign in
I had tried replacing the OWA folder from the backup and it did not helped.
Any suggestions will be really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sudheesh Rajan

    Hi,
If the problem happens after installing rollup, please uninstall it and then reinstall.
Most of these problem happen if certian dll files reatling to OWA are not registered or missing. To quickly resolve this problem, you can try to apply the latest SP or reinstall CAS server.
    Thanks

  • Search difference between Search Folders and search on OWA

Sometimes when I Search the Inbox folder on OWA, the search will not return all the emails with a subject line value.  However, I also have a Search Folder set up to look for the same subject line value and it does return all the emails.
After a few days it usually fixes itself.
What is the difference between the search using OWA and the search using a Search Folder?
For the OWA search I specify to only search the Inbox and to only search the Subject line.

    Hi,
Yes, there are some different results when searching items in OWA and Outlook Cached mode.
When users are using Outlook Cached mode, Outlook uses
Windows Search, a component built-in in Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Windows Search performs content indexing and provides search functionality to Outlook. Interfacing with a local content indexing and search service provides Outlook users running
in Cached Exchange Mode a more efficient way to search their mailbox. For details about Windows Search, see
    Windows Search.
When using OWA, the Exchange Search is used. Generally, Search results are limited to the first 100 matches found in OWA. For more information about Exchange search, we can refer to Exchange Search Client part in :

  • Outlook advanced search & Exchange 2013 - "Sent to...." field doesn't work correctly in online mode?

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
We've come across what seems to be a problem with advanced find in Outlook in online mode, when used with Exchange 2013.
Using the "Messages" tab of "Advanced Find", anything typed into the "Sent to...." field produces no search results.  If the field is populated by clicking
"Sent to..." and selecting a name from a contact list or GAL, results are returned.
    eg.
Sent items contains messages to "Charlie" who has the email address
    [email protected] and sender is
"Dave" who has the email address
    [email protected]
    Entering "charlie" or
[email protected], (or any previously acceptable partial term such as "charl" or "@contoso.com") into the "Sent to"" field produces no results.  If the user exists in a contact
list and is selected from it, the search works fine.  The same is true searching the inbox, using the local user's id of "Dave" or
    [email protected]
We've confirmed this issue occurs at four client's sites, plus our own internal Exchange 2013 CU3 system.  Four of the sites have been transitioned from Exchange 2010, the fifth was a completely new installation.  The problem occurs with Outlook
    2007, 2010 and 2013.
This works fine in cached mode (not a solution as our clients are predominantly Citrix/RDS).  Exchange search doesn't report any issues and the index states are all "healthy",
we've also tried rebuilding the indexes with no improvement.
Any ideas would be appreciated, or even if someone else can confirm they see the same thing.
    Thanks.

    Hi Winnie,
Thanks for your reply, and I'm sorry I've not responded earlier.  While this problem is one that's annoying several of our clients, and while I have been doing further testing and investigation, it's had to take a back seat to other more pressing issues
    until now.
OWA search works fine, as does using "From:" in instant search, and the "From" query on the Advanced tab in Advanced Find.  The search services have been restarted, indexing state and copy status etc are all healthy, the indexes
have been rebuilt/reseeded, and I've gone through the diagnostics again.  Nothing is logged in event viewer, and the only error that comes up when checking failed index docs for a user are for unsupported format handlers (.png etc).
The issue seems purely to be with the "Sent to..." field on the Messages tab, it's as if it gets completely ignored.  The search returns instantly with "There are no items to show in this view".  Just to make sure I wasn't losing
my marbles, I've compared searches on Exchange 2007 and 2010, and on those I can enter as little as a single letter or email domain and receive the expected results.  On 2013 I get nothing whatsoever whatever I enter, unless I pick an address from a contact
    list.
At this point, I thought that since Office 365 is Exchange 2013 based it'd be worth testing that, and sure enough I got exactly the same issue.  I setup an Office 365/Outlook 2010 profile on a machine that is currently in an existing Exchange 2010
environment where search works correctly, searching Office 365 doesn't work on that either.
EDIT - Ignore this bit, a fresh install of Windows 7 and Office 2010 doesn't work with Office 365 either.  I am exploring another avenue.  I setup a fresh Windows 7 VM, installed Office 2010 and connected that to Office 365, search worked fine,
so I'm now looking into what the difference with that VM and the servers and workstations out "in the wild" could be.  For example, the test VM isn't on a domain, it's not fully patched, it has no additional software installed etc.  Outside
of Microsoft applications and operating systems and having similar configurations, I haven't isolated a common link across all of our client sites that are affected, there's no single 3rd party application or anti-virus solution in place at all of them for
    example.
I'll update with any findings, but if you or anyone else has any idea in the meantime I'd be grateful for your input.
    Regards.

  • Regarding open and close period

How to search which period is closed and which period is opened??

    Hi Akshata,
Attached is the screenshot of OB52 screen. Here you can refer to From period 1 to To period 2. In this example, period is open for 11th period 2010 to 1st period 2011. If you want to close 11th period of 2010 you can change the field "From period 1" to 12 2010.

Please check the account type which you want to be open also. If it is only the Gl Account entries keep the account type "S" and "+" open.

Using Acrobat 6 Professional 6.0.0.5 to edit pdf documents created with FrameMaker 7. I open the pdf document to start my editing and my first step is to search for frequent errors (we have some strict conventions). I'm unable to search for period-space-space, space-hyphen-space, etc.
I was going through my usual process and realized that I can't seem to search using wildcards. The only reference to wildcards that I can find in the Help documentation is that you can't use them with stemming searches. Google searches haven't yielded any more than that. Perhaps I'm just accustomed to FrameMaker, in which I can search for all SORTS of things.
I tried searching for a word sitting right on the front page, only putting in either a ? or a * in place of one of the letters, and I get zero results (Adding quotation marks doesn't help).
This led me to two questions:
1 - Can Acrobat 6 do wildcard (?, *) searches and, if so, how?
2 - Some of us Save As... to pdf, others Print to PDF, is it possible that the two methods create documents that have different search properties?
    Thanks,
    Solon Aquila

I have Adobe Reader 6.0.6 which I last updated 4/17/08 (think I had all available updates by then). My 1999 Dell PC uses Windows 98 SE operating system. Today 7/10/08 (when going to Adobe.com), it appears that Adobe no longer supports any Adobe Reader 6.0 version and also has stopped recognizing Windows 98 (lowest is 2000) - thus users are out of luck vis-a-vis getting updates or support. Since April 2008, I have been unable to open/view many PDF files from online sources (where I could previously access the same files). These PDF files show as a blank page with a colorful icon in the upper left-hand corner. Is there any possible fix to this problem? PLEASE help if possible, as I use Adobe Reader quite often. Thank you! KB in GA

  • Search stopped working in AIR

    Hello,
It's me again. Sorry, but I am still poking around with RH 8 and AIR and trying to learn everything. I just inserted a second pdf into my project and installed the AIR output. However, the search is no longer working (was working before this pdf was embedded). I read around in this forum and found the following thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2284312#2284312). It indicated that the problem was with an error in the person's pdf file. How in the world did they find this error? I'm not sure how to check a pdf to make sure it is okay. Is this the reason people think the search stopped working for me as well?
Thanks again for the great help.

    Hi there
Unfortunately the AIR output is something reasonably new to all of us. As a result, there really isn't a good base of knowledge out there with regards to it. So in one sense, you are somewhat navigating uncharted territory. Many of us have no clue what to suggest. When issues have emerged, largely it's been the Adobe RoboHelp Engineers that have provided the solutions.
In your case, it might be that the PDF you were adding has issues. Or, it could be something as simple as the AIR output only allowing ONE PDF to be inserted. I would think that would be easy to sort. Try removing the PDF where search is working. Add the other and compile. Does search break or continue to work?
If it breaks, likely it's got something to do with the PDF.
If it continues to work, likely it's got something to do with AIR not liking multiple PDFs.
If you don't mind, I'm going to move the posts that are AIR related into the AIRHelp forum category.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Search for users and non-ASCII characters

I am having a little issue with the "Accounts - Find Users" functionality. The search breaks on what I assume is non-ASCII characters (we use the following three up here in Denmark: , , ). To be precise, I have a user with the first name "Jrgen". Searching for first names starting with "J" works just fine but "J" returns zero matches.
My setup is with two machines, one (A) holding the MySQL database and one (B) serving Identity Manager on top of tomcat.
Both A and B are RHEL boxes, and both have da_DK.UTF-8 as default locale.
MySQL's /etc/my.cnf file has the following entry (as recommended in create_waveset_tables.mysql):
    [mysqld]
    default-character-set=utf8
default-collation=binFor clarity, some functionality works just fine in Identity Manager with these non-ASCII characters such as adding a user whose name contains non-ASCII characters (not only but also for example). At the moment, it appears to be the search functionality which is not working correctly as I would expect it to. I'm still on the fence concerning whether I've missed something in terms of configuration, or whether this is a limitation.
Does anyone know whether this problem is on my side or the software's side?

  • Weird situation with BINARY SEARCH in READ statwment??

    Hi Experts,
I got weird situation with BINARY SEARCH !! bcoz, below is my code,
data: begin of it_vbap occurs o,
            vbeln like vbap-vbap,
            posnr like vbap-posnr, ( i also tried like, posnr(6) type n)
    end of it_vbap.
    data: counter type i ( i also tried like, counter(6) type n)
my it_vbap is filled like below,
    vbeln----
    posnr
    12345678-------000001
    12345678-------000002
    12345678-------000003
    12345678-------000004
    12345678-------000005
    12345678-------000006
    sort it_vbap by posnr. (*)
    clear counter
    loop it_vbap.
    counter = counter + 1.
read table it_vbap with key posnr = counter
binary search (after commenting the above SORT * marked statement, then,if I delete BINARY SEARCH, then its working!!)
    if sy-subrc = 0.
    here is my logic.
    endif.
    endloop.
    so, now, for
    1st loop the sy-subrc = 0.
    2nd loop the sy-subrc = 0.
    3rdloop the sy-subrc NE  0.
    4th loop the sy-subrc = 0.
    5th loop the sy-subrc NE 0.
    6th loop the sy-subrc NE 0.
so, why, ebven though there r all entires in it_vbap, why am getting the sy-subrc NE 0??
Is the reason that, there r less number of entries in it_vbap?? and am using BINARY SEARCH??
    thanq

    Hello
    The following coding works perfect (6x sy-subrc = 0) on ERP 6.0:
    *& Report  ZUS_SDN_ITAB_BINARY_SEARCH
    REPORT  zus_sdn_itab_binary_search.
    TABLES: vbap.
DATA: BEGIN OF it_vbap OCCURS 0,
    vbeln LIKE vbap-vbeln,
    posnr LIKE vbap-posnr, "( i also tried like, posnr(6) type n)
    END OF it_vbap.
    DATA: counter TYPE posnr.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
      " Fill itab with data:
    *  12345678-------000001
    *  12345678-------000002
    *  12345678-------000003
    *  12345678-------000004
    *  12345678-------000005
    *  12345678-------000006
      REFRESH: it_vbap.
      CLEAR: vbap.
      DO 6 TIMES.
        it_vbap-vbeln = '12345678'.
        it_vbap-posnr = syst-index.
        APPEND it_vbap.
      ENDDO.
SORT it_vbap[] BY posnr.  " for BINARY SEARCH
      BREAK-POINT.
      clear counter.
      loop at it_vbap.
      counter = counter + 1.
READ TABLE it_vbap WITH KEY posnr = counter
BINARY SEARCH.  " (after commenting the above sort * marked statement, then,if i delete binary search, then its working!!)
      IF sy-subrc = 0.
        "here is my logic.
      ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.
    END-OF-SELECTION.
By the way, if your requirement is to check whether the first item has POSNR = '000001', the second item has POSNR = '000002' and so on then you can simplify your coding like this:
    counter = 0.
    LOOP AT it_vbap.
      counter = syst-tabix.
      IF ( it_vbap-posnr = counter ).
" put in here your logic
      ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.
    Regards
      Uwe
