OWB 10.1 - unorthodox installation
Is the following possible? and if so how would i go about managing ETL workflow etc.:
Development Environment:
Traditional server installation of Runtime and Design Repository.
Productional Environment;
Senario 1: NO OWB installation! Only various datamarts that need to be fed by various production databases using the ETL processes designed by the OWB and controlled by Workflow Manager (preseumably from the development environment).
Senario2: No Design Repository, only a Runtime Repository. How would I enable the ETL workflow process in the production environment without a design repository?
Hi,
Scenario 1 - The basic requirement in OWB 10gR1 is you need to have a Runtime Repository installed in your Production Database where you want to load data. Without this installation you cannot do. Design Repository can be anywhere, even the Workflow Server can be in your Development Database. So, one Runtime Repository Installation is a must.
Scenario 2 - This is possible. Just install the Runtime Repository in the Production Database. You can use the Design Repository of the dev environment and also workflow server installed in any database.
Various installation possibilities are documented in the OWB Installation and Configuration Notes.
The configuration is different for OWB 10gR2.

srinivasI have same problem (java.lang.exception java.lang.Nullpointer.exception.) when I try to add reporsitory user by Repository Assistant. When I fill all pages from that wizard and press Finish, then I get java exception error alert with exception mentioned above. Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options and OWB client10.2.0.3.0/repository10.2.0.3.33. This happened since we have migrated from 32b to 64b version. Any workarounds???

OWB runtime user/owner installation error
While installing OWB 9i, the following error has come:
oracle.wh.util.DebugUtility: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-29540: class oracle/aurora/rdbms/security/PolicyTableManager does not exist
oracle.wh.util.DebugUtility: ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JAVA", line 0
oracle.wh.util.DebugUtility: ORA-06512: at line 2
Please suggest.Don't know if it's related to your problem, but we got that error on a complex query running on Oracle 9. The same query on Oracle 10 worked just fine.
Kind regards,

OWB repository assistant stucks 72 percent finished
Hello could anybody give suggestions what is the problem when I try to install my OWB repository and the installation always halts when theres 72 percent finished. I have Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 database and the OWB version is 9.2.0.2.8, operating system is Windows XP with sp1.
Thank youPlease look in the file [OWB Home]\owb\reposasst\log.txt.0. Let us know if any errors or exceptions are present there, from your latest attempt. More tips on troubleshooting the installation are in here in the appendix of the OWB Install Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B11000_02/apddiagn.htm#1005923

Unable to login to OWB Design Repository
Hi,
While trying to login to OWB Design Repository I am getting an error message, 'SQL EXCEPTION'. Can anybody tell me the reason behind this.
LiyakatHi,
we need much more informations about the problem:
- Login with the OWB, per sqlplus, ...?
- Which error message? Complete text with error number!
- All related informations (version of database and OWB, errorlogs from the installation, ...)
Bye

I want to install only the Client part of OWB on my notebook.
I have downloaded the 10.2.0.3.0 for Windows Vista but when I launch the Oracle Universal Installer, only the complete installation is allowed.
How can I install only the Design Center without the server components?Full installation of OWB is a client installation. OWB comes packaged with repository creation scripts (which you don't have to use on your local machine) and control center service (which you also don't have to use). So just install OWB and that's it.
You will need a repository to work on. If you are unable to connect to a remote repository, you won't be able to use OWB client. In that case you will need a local repository in your local database.
Hope this helps,

User Defined Activity: Run OS Command with OS parameters
OS: OELR5 U3 x64
DB: 11.1.0.7
OWB: 11R1
I would like to be able to run an os command from a user defined activity within a process flow. I am trying to make use of VMWare's vmrun to control a virtual machine. From the OS command line I enter:
/usr/bin/vmrun -T server -h https://server:port/sdk -u user -p userpassword -gu guest -gp guestpassword runProgramInGuest "[standard] VM/Virtual Machine.vmx" -activeWindow -interactive "c:\path_to_program\program.exe" /switch
How many I duplicate this OS command from within a user defined activity in a process flow?
I create a user defined activity:
COMMAND: /usr/bin/vmrun
PARAMETER_LIST:
RESULT_CODE:
SCRIPT: -T server -h https://server:port/sdk -u user -p userpassword -gu guest -gp guestpassword runProgramInGuest "[standard] VM/Virtual Machine.vmx" -activeWindow -interactive "c:\path_to_program\program.exe" /switch
SUCCESS_THRESHOLD: 0
The process runs without error in the log, but the os command is not being run.
I tried again with:
COMMAND: /usr/bin/vmrun
PARAMETER_LIST: ?-T?server?-h?https://server:port/sdk?-u?user?-p userpassword?-gu?guest?-gp guestpassword?runProgramInGuest "[standard] VM/Virtual Machine.vmx"?-activeWindow?-interactive?"c:\path_to_program\program.exe"?/switch?
RESULT_CODE:
SCRIPT:
SUCCESS_THRESHOLD: 0
with the same result.
And I also tried calling sh:
COMMAND: bin/sh
PARAMETER_LIST:
RESULT_CODE:
SCRIPT: /usr/bin/vmrun -T server -h https://server:port/sdk -u user -p userpassword -gu guest -gp guestpassword runProgramInGuest "[standard] VM/Virtual Machine.vmx" -activeWindow -interactive "c:\path_to_program\program.exe" /switch
SUCCESS_THRESHOLD: 0
also with the same result.
The process runs in each case, and ends with: "Log file is available", but when I look in the log, I don't see errors or any information that might help me adjust the user defined activity. This method works:
COMMAND: bin/bash
PARAMETER_LIST:
RESULT_CODE:
SCRIPT: /usr/bin/vmrun -T server -h https://server:port/sdk -u user -p userpassword -gu guest -gp guestpassword runProgramInGuest "standard VM/Virtual Machine.vmx" -activeWindow -interactive "c:\path_to_program\program.exe" /switch
SUCCESS_THRESHOLD: 0
The issue seems to be caused on an upgrade to OWB 11R2. Our installation does not always update the VALUE entry when a user types in a value, meaning that our entry changes were not reflected into the deployed process package. -
OWB Installation problem on AIX 5.2
Hi,
We are trying to install OWB 9.2.0.2.8 on IBM AIX 5.2 using the download version from OTN. Following installation instructions, we have removed all references to existing ORACLE_HOME in the environment variables: CLASSPATH, PATH, LIBPATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
When we try to run installer from owb92aix/Disk1/runInstaller
following error message appears: Can't find libjvm.a
and the installation aborts.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
AravindYes, we do have the java virtual machine installed in /usr/java131/jre/bin and it is referenced in PATH variable.
When we extracted the downloaded tar file for AIX, the file libjvm.a exists in the extracted directory. We do not know why the installer is unable to find it.
Thanks,
Aravind -

Installation guide for OWB 9.2 name and address
Hi,
May you show me where I can find the OWB 9.2 installation document for name and address cleaning software.
In the installation guide of OWB 9.2, it ask to refer to the installation instruction of software vendor. I am going to use the default vendor (Trillium, the same as OWB9.0.4), but I don't know where to find the installation instruction.
Thanks in advance,
Qiguang WuWhen do you get this message? It seems to be referring to the N&A server, but I would need to have more details. When you installed OWB, the installation program asked for the port (defaulting to 4040) where the N&A server would run. Th N&A server should be started automatically when a mapping containing a N&A operator is run. Otherwise, it is possible to start and stop the N&A server by running the NASstart.bat and NASstop.bat unde the <OWB home>/owb/bin/win32 directory (or the same .sh files in the unix directory).
