can anybody tell me when will OCS 10G be available for the AIX platform as i have a huge opportunity here in malaysia.

    Hi,
Only 64bit for database server is available. There is no 32bit available for Oracle9 and Oracle10 on AIX, which means you NEED a 64bit server.
Note that also for Solaris only the 64bit version of oracle is available. However, you do not need a 64bit server on solaris, but just a 64bit version of Solaris, which you can install on a 32bit server.

  • Oracle version for AIX 5.3 ?

I just download the latest Oracle 10g Trial version for AIX 5L from the Web. But as I go through installation, while running "runInstaller", it gave me message:
"Checking operating system version: must be 5200
    Failed <<<<"
Of course since I have AIX 5.3. The requirement of Oracle 10g says the OS should be "AIX 5L version 5.2, Main level 1 or higher". With AIX 5.3, is there a Oracle version?
    thanks,

    Thank you, it worked!
However it seems to me a more workaround. Is there a source to say Oracle 10g for AIX 5.3 is officially supported (or aka certified for the platform)? If a Oracle 10g is purchased and problem develops on AIX 5.3, I don't want to get a saying it is not yet certified.
    Thanks,

  • New licensing for OWB 10g R2 (Paris)

    Hi,
Does anyone know how much the new licenses (per DB server CPU) for OWB 10g R2 (Paris) cost?
Is it correct that the features for the modeling of SCD 1 and 2 are not included in the basic "Core ETL Features"?
If I'm using the the SCD 2 features to develop the OWB mappings do I also need to license the "Enterprise ETL" for the production server?
Related to the previous question: for the production DB where I only need the runtime part of the repository is it required to license any options?
    Regards
    Maurice
PS: 2 links related to these questions:
    http://www.rittman.net/archives/2006/05/owb_10g_release_2_now_availabl.html
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/owb_10gr2_faq.htm#HowisOWBPackaged

Maurice, not sure what to say. If you've been using OWB, then you don't lose any functionality going to the new version, and it will be "free". You simply won't get any of the new functionality (all of the old functionality is included in the "core" features)
However, as I said in the other post, I hope Oracle reconsiders the SCD 1 / 2 / 3 licensing. To me, SCD type 2 are not "enterprise level" functionality - that is base level functionality for ANY data mart or data warehouse. I have no problems with paying for options the other ETL vendors are charging for (data quality comes to mind...), but if we deploy a large DW on a 32 processor box, paying for the Oracle licenses AND an addition $300,000+ for OWB functionality just to simplify SCD type 2, seems WAY overkill. Actually, in our project, we had pretty much settled on Oracle as the RDBMS for our DW, but if OWB is up in the air, we will probably open this up for an RFQ.

  • OWB 9.2 for AIX release date

    Hello,
I was told by an Oracle representative that Warehouse Builder 9.2 for AIX would ship on december 15th. Apparently it is not yet available for download from OTN.
When can we expect OWB 9.2 for AIX to be available for download?
    Regards,
    Janus Christensen, System Developer
    The Confederation of Danish Industries

OWB Development team received the OWB 9.2 AIX port from the porting team late last night. We're in the process of loading onto OTN's download page and should be available by tomorrow at the latest. I'll update the forum when it's available for download.

  • OWB 9.2 for AIX ?

When can we get an actual/realistic date when OWB 9.2 will be available for AIX platform? The dates for OWB 9.2 for AIX have continually slipped Aug 2003, Sep 2003, start Nov 2003, end Nov 2003. Another date has slipped, can Oracle give us a realistic date when OWB 9.2 for AIX will be available? (looks like it may be sometime in 2004!!)

The latest from the porting team is that the port would be ready around December 10th. So we seem to be making it before 2004...
But seriously, we are well aware this causes headaches for our customers and we are pushing hard to get these ports done asap.

  • Error installing OWB 10.2.0.1 repository on for AIX

    Hi!
I'm trying to install OWB repository on AIX with repository assistant, but I'm stuck with the following error included on the log file generated:
INS0017: Installation of the seeded data failed.
    oracle.wh.util.parser.ParseException:
Internal Error: id generation error. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and details on how to reproduce it.
I read several posts and workaround about dropping schemas and roles, but none was effective.
Also tried using "thin" user jdbc driver.
This would be the first repository for OWB 10.2.0.1.
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Thanks. I have the version that's available for download on OTN.
I believe I have both the 32 and 64bit versions of rpms.

  • OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target

We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
    SQL Exception
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: CacheMediator.
    Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
    Testing...
    Failed.
API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
    Repository Error:SQL Exception..
    Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
    Method Name: -1.
Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWB’s utility SQL Plus.
Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.

As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
    - the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
    - long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not.

  • Prerequisites for installing OBIEE 10g in AIX

    Hi
I need the prerequisites for installing OBIEE 10g in AIX.

Scripts? Oracle installation has intuitive GUI installation. You just need to do some required action before launch of installation. These steps you can find on official documentation http://tahiti.oracle.com or some public papers.
Anyway there was installation script that prepared the system for Oracle install. It was called DORIS (made by Howard J. Rogers) but AFAIK it is not downloadable anymore.

  • Simple OWB 10g R2 Example for Type 2 Dimensions Needed

    Hello,
Does someone have a simple example of a Type 2 dimension on OWB 10g R2? That I can run and test. The ideal would be an MDL file that includes all the elements, so I only have to install and run it?
I have been trying to make this work for far too long now. All of this was not a problem in OWB 9i but I'm having trouble getting OWB 10g R2 to work like I'm used to.
    Thanks

FYI, with my configuration of having separate database instances for target and OWB repository I ran into a bit of an issue when deploying a map:
'RPE-01012: Cannot deploy PL/SQL maps to the target schema because it is not owned by the Control Center' error.
Even though I could do deploy tables, views, MVs et all but for some reason I couldn't deploy my mapping. Solution to get around this problem is to:
    * create new OWB repository in the target environment using the REPOSITORY ASSISTANT
    * add target schema as an OWB user using OWBREPowner (Global Explorer panel/Security/Users), check user as 'target schema' option
    * start control center service against the target warehouse using target schema credentials
    * delete previously created separate dedicated OWB repository
Now mappings can be deployed successfully.
My only concern now is if this is a valid legit configuration? I would hate to run into problems in the future once my environment becomes bigger.
What are your thoughts on this?

  • OWB 10g - The time taken for data load is too high

I am loading data on the test datawarehouse server. The time taken for loading data is very high. The size of data is around 7 GB (size of flat files on the OS).
The time it takes to load the same amount of data on the production server from the staging area to the presentation area(datawarehouse) is close to 8 hours maximum.
But, in the test environment the time taken to execute one mapping (containing 300,000 records)is itself 8 hours.
The version of Oracle database on both the test and production servers is the same i.e., Oracle 9i.
The configuration of the production server is : 4 Pentium III processors (2.7 GHz each), 2 GB RAM, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, 8 kilobyte primary memory cache, 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 440.05 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity, 73.06 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space
The configuration of the test server is : 4 Pentium III processors (2.4 GHz each), 1 GB RAM, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, 8 kilobyte primary memory cache,
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 144.96 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity, 5.22 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space.
Can you guys please help me to detect the the possible causes of such erratic behaviour of the OWB 10g Tool.
    Thanks & Best Regards,

    PwC

    Hello Harshad,
2 GB of RAM doesn't seem to be very much to me. I guess your bottleneck is I/O. You've got to investigate this (keep an eye on long running processes). You didn't say very much about your target database design. Do you have a lot of indexes on the target tables and if so have you tried to drop them before loading? Do your OWB mappings require a lot of lookups (then apropriate indexes on the lookup table are very useful)? Do you use external tables? Are you talking about loading dimension or fact tables or both? You've got to supply some more information so that we can help you better.

    Jörg

  • Tuning OWB 10g Mappings for fast loading

    Hi,
What are the various techniques in which I can tune my OWB mappings for optimized performance?
Is it a good idea to increase my commit frequency from 1000 to say 25,000 to reduce I/O?
What other parameters could be important to the fast loading of data?
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Harshad Borgaonkar

If you say loading, do you mean inserting?
If so, I gather from the fact that for you the commit frequency is relevant, that you are not using set-based loading, which is the fastest way to load records. Any reason why you don't use set-based loading, or didn't you know that the commit frequency is irrelevant in that case?
    Kind regards,
    Jaap.
