OWB 11.1 / 11.2 64 Bit

Hi,
Could anyone tell me if OWB Client will be able to run on Windows 64 bit, and if it can will it be supported?
If not, when would it be available?
Is the same true for Linux 64 bit?
I'm looking to upgrade my laptop and would like to upgrade to 64 bit.
Thanks,
Steven

Hi, no unfortunately OWB 11.2 can't run on windows 64 bit, only 32bit for the moment
For Linux YES 32 and 64bit

  • OWB 10g Release 2 from 32 bit to 64 bit on Linux

    Hi guys,
I have a client who is planning to migrate their Linux server from 32 bit to 64 bit and migrate their Oracle database from 10.2.0.3 from 32 bit server to 10.2.0.3 from 64 bit server.
We have OWB 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) installed in the 32 bit server.
Our DBA is planning to move the entire database to the new server including the OWB repositories.
    My question is,
    Will the following work?
    1. Install the OWB 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3 or 10.2.0.4) 64 bit in the new 64 bit Linux 64 bit server
    2. Remove all the OWB repository user schemas & roles from the database where OWB is installed
    3. Install the OWB repository in the new 64 bit server
    4. Import the .mdl backup of the project from existing OWB 32 bit to the new OWB 64 bit server
    5. Configure the project with the new server
    OR
Since our DBA is planning to move the entire database to the new server including the OWB repositories
    1. Install the OWB 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) 64 bit in the new 64 bit Linux 64 bit server
Will I be able to access my repository that is migrated from the 32 bit server (avoiding the installation of OWB repository and importing the project and configuring the whole project in the new server) ?
Please someone shed some light on this. Your help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance....

Does this mean, ... we have to install the OWB 64 bit and install a new repository in the 64 bit server? In my opinion you don't need to create new repository.
After migrating database to 64bit perform steps from Metalink note 434272.1 "How To Update Warehouse Builder 10.2 After A Database Cloning".
It is better to save the same path for new OWB 64bit software. If you install OWB into different path you need to update OWBRTPS table with new path to OWB software (look at metalink note 550271.1).

  • Is owb 11g r2,supported by 64 bit windows 2008 server

is owb 11g ,r2 supported on 64 bit windows 2008 server.
is it true that : OWB 11g,r2 is supported only for 32 bit windows 2008.

There is no 64b client for windows at this time. You can check on Oracle for available downloads.

  • OWB Lookup/Join

We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.2.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.2.8. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.2.0). OWB is installed on Sun 64 bit server.
As we use lookup in OWB mapping, We can use the lookup tables/source table to create a View as Join with source and lookup table in Database. The created view could be a source for OWB mapping. This will help us to have less lookups in OWB mapping. As we Join the lookup in Database server, we could get better performance.
Did any one in this forum use above approach in large projects?
    Any idea?
What is the best approach, when lookup returns multiple values for single lookup key?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi RI,
This will help us to have less lookups in OWB mapping. As we Join the lookup in Database server, we could get better performance.
Did any one in this forum use above approach in large projects?OWB uses Oracle database as ETL-engine and in case of Set based execution mode (for PL/SQL mapping) you will not get better performance with view (when used instead of lookup of join operators).
Additional negative impact of "view" approach is lost of complete info for Lineage/Impact analysis (I think that for large projects this is a very helpful features).
What is the best approach, when lookup returns multiple values for single lookup key?I think this is design mistake - you should define unique key on lookup table

  • IF and ELSE in OWB

We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.2.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.2.8. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.2.0). OWB is installed on Sun 64 bit server.
How do we use IF and ELSE structure in OWB/Expression? It gave me error on DECODE. I am able to use CASE as alternate.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi
Why you need "if then else" structure in mapping|flow expression? Basically owb expressions just supports sql conditional logic, so if you can write sql with "if then else" then you can write this statement in expression. As far i know in Oracle sql statement with "if then else" is not supported.
    so use "case" statement
    SELECT
CASE WHEN 1=1 THEN 'x' ELSE 'a' END
    FROM DUAL

    Hi All,
we are setting development env for Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.2. We have installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 Database on Windows Server 2008. We need to setup OWB env to build data warehousing. Now, please tell me how we can make the right way connectivity with Oracle 11gr2 with OWB client 11.2.02...
    1. Do we need to installed OWB client on Windows XP (32) bit environment?
    2. Do we need to installed on Windows 7 (64) bit environment?. We know that 64 bits version of OWB does not exist for windows environment and need to install OWB Client 32 bit as run as administrator in Windows XP mode)
please reply as soon as possible, what is the best way to work in 11gr2. Do we need to apply any patches after installation..... please reply in detail...
    Thanks in advance.
    Dinesh

    Hi ,
by installing oracle itself you have to choose owb installation in serverside.
After that you can install client version in your client machines and you can acces the server.
but all bug fixes will be available in the owb 11.2.0.2 version.
    Thanks

  • OWB View validation??

    OWB View validation??
We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.2.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.2.8. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.2.0). OWB is installed on Sun 64 bit server.
We created view in OWB mapping. The validation was successful. As we deploy the view, we are getting errors such as Table/view does not exist, numeric errors etc.
Why does not view validation pick upuch errors?
Did any one in this forum face such issues?
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hello RI,
Creating views as a target in a mapping is only available from 10.2.0.3 and i thougt not in your version!
You could create views in your version, but not in a mapping and you would have to paste the self developed sql in your view definition!

  • Simple OWB 10g R2 Example for Type 2 Dimensions Needed

    Hello,
Does someone have a simple example of a Type 2 dimension on OWB 10g R2? That I can run and test. The ideal would be an MDL file that includes all the elements, so I only have to install and run it?
I have been trying to make this work for far too long now. All of this was not a problem in OWB 9i but I'm having trouble getting OWB 10g R2 to work like I'm used to.
    Thanks

FYI, with my configuration of having separate database instances for target and OWB repository I ran into a bit of an issue when deploying a map:
'RPE-01012: Cannot deploy PL/SQL maps to the target schema because it is not owned by the Control Center' error.
Even though I could do deploy tables, views, MVs et all but for some reason I couldn't deploy my mapping. Solution to get around this problem is to:
    * create new OWB repository in the target environment using the REPOSITORY ASSISTANT
    * add target schema as an OWB user using OWBREPowner (Global Explorer panel/Security/Users), check user as 'target schema' option
    * start control center service against the target warehouse using target schema credentials
    * delete previously created separate dedicated OWB repository
Now mappings can be deployed successfully.
My only concern now is if this is a valid legit configuration? I would hate to run into problems in the future once my environment becomes bigger.
What are your thoughts on this?

  • Wheres my Unix OWB 10 G

Hi all, I am possibly one of the few using OWB on Solaris.
When can we expect to see the Unix OWB 10G ???
No good having only the Dev Client for 10G.
I want to upgrade my server components, although, Im not going to use the upgrade script, the version from 9.04 to 9.2 did not work, so I suspect trying to run it from 9.2 to 10G will not work either.
Dont get me wrong the script did run to completion, the problems started when you tried to modify the target schema using the wizards, it kept saying you need blah runtime, basically it really screwed up the runtime to the point I had to manually remove all OWB objects and start from scratch.
So assure me please, someone upgrade from OWB 9.2 to 10 G on solaris, then use the 10 Runtime to drop a target schema(the 9.2 upgraded one), add a target schema (the previously upgraded dropped one), and see if it does not give the error about needing a 9.2 runtime.
Next drop/remove the upgraded 9.2/10 G runtime platform, and all targets.
Reinstall the runtime, under same user, reinstall all targets. Try deploying all objects again from design client.
Hmm, case 2, Install a new 10 G runtime into Solaris DB, use same target schemas as the 9.2 platform. Parallel operation along side existing 9.2.
attempt changes using 9.2 and 10G, any runtime platform object confilcts???
If you can say OWB upgrade from 9.2 to 10 G is fine given those cases, then I am happy upgrading my production OWB systems should be somewhat easier.
Oh and again, when is Solaris 10 available ?? :)
    Thanks,
    Richard.

    Hi Richard,
Not sure what issues you ran into with the 904 migration, but if there are any I hope you contacted support so we can fix it.
We tested the 9 to 10 conversion extensively and in our cases that worked. We tested with many cases, and if there is one in your case that does not work please do log a tar so we can improve this for our users.
I will try the upgrade tomorrow and see what happens if I do drop a target.
On your second case, I'm not sure how you can consider using the same schemas on the same box as running in parallel? I think you will run into fundamental problems if you run 10g and 9.2 into the same schemas. How can OWB figure out which table to write into, and you can't have 2 incarnations. I would not recommend you doing this. I also think this is a fairly unconvential way of running parallel...
But I will try to replay some of the things you mentioned.
On the Solaris one, just to warn you ahead of time, Solaris will be only supported for 64 bit OS. The reason in database support and therefore OWB support is limited to 64 bit Solaris as of 10g RDBMS and OWB 10g (basically the same tech stack).
Solaris is being addressed as we type, so I would expect the UX platforms to all come available within the next couple of weeks.
    Thanks,
    Jean-Pierre

    OWB ProcessFlow (ROUTE/SET STATUS)??
We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.2.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.2.8. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.2.0). OWB is installed on Sun 64 bit server.

I find limited details on this under OWB processflow help.
Did any one in this forum face such issues?
    Any idea?

    OWB ProcessFlow/Variable??

I learned that as we bring sub-process operator into ProcessFlow EDITOR, it opens up to configure existing(already defined) processflows. It is not happening. Same situation with mapping operator as well. How do we know which mapping/processflows are associated with?
Does it goes by the specified names in opeartor?
I used processflows variables with assign operator/activity. It is not setting propery. What is the guidlines/approach for using processflow variables?
Did any one in this forum face such issues?
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi.
First at all, you have two windows to pull activities (mappings or process flows).
The first one is located down on the left side and its called 'Palette', and the second is located top on the left side and its called 'Explorer'. The rule is that when you need to put some mapping or subproces on your process you need to pull it from the 'Available objects' tab from the 'Explorer'.
Then when you select your mapping from 'Explorer' - 'Available objects', just pull it to your process. If you then go to 'Selected objects' tab you will see properties such as AUDIT_LEVEL, OPERATING_MODES...That is simple your mapping and you don't need to know how proces flow know that is the right one (by the name of the mapping or something else), that is not important.
Same is with procesess. You select process from the 'Explorer' - 'Available objects' and pull it to your process. If you go to 'Selected objects' tab you will see parameter that you have created in you previous process that you pull from 'Explorer' - 'Available objects'.
That's worked fine!!! Other methods not ('Palette').
So, don't use mapping and process flow activity from 'Pallete'. Use it from 'Explorer' - 'Available objects'.
    PS:
You don't need to use process flows variables with assign operator/activity. Just try as I wrote.

  • Lookup Idea??

We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.2.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.2.8. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.2.0). OWB is installed on Sun 64 bit server.
As we use lookup in OWB mapping, We have a situation to create lookup from same table for different results in same OWB map. Here is the situation.
    1) Table Ltab
    Lookup key = sourcekey1
    and lookupcode in ( 'A', 'M')
    2) Table Ltab
    Lookup key = sourcekey1
    and lookupcode in ( 'K', 'V')
    We can use ( lookupcode= 'A' OR lookupcode = 'M') instead lookupcode in ( 'A', 'M') as well.
I do not see a way to code as above in OWB lookup operator.
Is it doable in OWB via lookup operator?
Alternatevely, we could create multiple views to support above situation and attach the corresponding views to lookup.
Did any one in this forum use above approach in large projects?
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi,
I suggest using a joiner operator instead of the lookup. The lookup operator generates a left outer join anyway and in the join condition you have much more flexibility.
I would not recommend using views, since this splits your etl logik into two different locations.
    Regards,
    Carsten.

  • Warehouse Builder ETL Option

We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.2.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.2.8. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.2.0). OWB is installed on Sun 64 bit server.
There are various ETL options for OWB such as Enterprise ETL Option, DQ ETL option etc.
How do we find the actual option of installed ETL option?
It does not show up in OWB/help/About or session properties.
Do we need to query some system tables to figure this out?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi.
there is just one installation. Having installed OWB, you can technically use all features. It's just a question of the license what you are allowed to use.

    Hi everybody,
    I have a serious problem.
Last week we buy a new server with Windows Server 2008 Std. R2 x64, for a new project. I tried to install the RDBMS Oracle 11g R2 (x64) without problems, but when i try execute the "Design Center" contents in OWB, show me the error: 0xc0000018
Then, I´m thinking in install Oracle Data Integrator to solution it, but i`ve read that neither can install on 64 bits system... This is true?
Somebdoy knows how can I install OWB 11g / ODI 11g in a Windows 2008 Server 64 bits?
    Thanks & Regards!

OWB 11G Will have been installed with the database, it now ships with 11G.
