OWB Client throws a DOS window when started

I installed Oracle Warehouse Builder 9i for Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and after installing configured the repository assistant, and a runtime assistant. I did not configure a OWB Browser as it asked for a Oracle Portal. Now when I start OWB Client, it first opens another window which is like a DOS window listing OWB environment variables, and the window comes with a Title "Select Oracle Warehouse Builder Client". Why is the window appearing?, I can simply close it, but what causes it to appear. I have a feeling I missed the Project>Preferences>Utilities. Does anyone concur with me.

Reinstalled it, and it works fine, no DOS window anymore. Dont know why the problem was there in the first place.

JWS opens a Applet Running Window when starting the application

I have an applet that runs perfectly fine when starting it by double clicking the desktop icon of through the Internet Explorer. My problem is that when I start the applet it opens up another window with status bar displaying "Applet Running". Is there any way to stop displying this window.

It sounds like you are launching you applet from Java Web Start application by BasicService.showDocument("http://www.mycompany.com/myapplet.jnlp");
This would of course launch a browser , which would launch another instance of Java Web Start to run the second applet.
If you have all-permissions you could:
Runtime.exec("javaws http://www.mycompany.com/myapplet.jnlp");
to launch javaws directly.
would be nice if web start allowed this with something like BasicService.launchJNLPClient("http://www.mycompany.com/myapplet.jnlp");

Blank window when starting REminiscence

when I start reminiscence (an old dos/amiga) game, all I get is a blank (black) window...
reminisicence aur packet should download and extract all the necessary dos files (and it does) - but the game won't start. dos files are located in /usr/share/reminiscence, I even tried replacing them with another set of dos flashback files but I still get the same result...
i tried starting the game as root and as a regular user through konsole, and using alt+f2... even tried playing with permissions and ownership, but nothing helped..
hints?
maybe if someone would be kind enough to try this packet out and see what kind of a result he gets? or if someone already tried it, and could share his experience?

yes, I use KDE. tried it out without effects.. still everything is the same.
one more thing - while the reminiscence blank window is opened - one core of my cpu goes to 100%, so it's doing something..
as I read more on the internet, I suspect it might have something to do with reminiscence dependency - SDL which is: "Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL, and 2D video framebuffer. It is used by MPEG playback software, emulators, and many popular games"

Error in event lod in Windows when starting Apache HTTP Server

I get the following error when I start Apache:
The Apache service named Apache.exe reported the following error:
[Thu Jan 24 15:38:04 2002] [error] (2)The system cannot find the file specified: RegQueryValueEx(key System\CurrentControlSet\Services\OracleWebCoreHTTPServer\Parameters) <<<before the error.log file could be opened.
More information may be available in the error.log file. .
There is no more info in the error.log and that key in the registry points to the http.conf file and it is the correct path, any ideas why I get this

I got the answer: the network path of My Documents contains '$' sign which is not allowed by Windows Installer.

Strange window when starting up! Make it go away!

I have the apple care protection plan and recently sent in my ibook to have the hard drive replaced. They installed 10.3 and I have upgraded to 10.4.5
When I boot up I get a black screen with some type of code which runs down the screen before the gray screen with the activity circle swirling. I though when I upgraded this might stop. It didn't.
What is this and how do I make it go away? I don't like to see this "dos" like mess.

Do everything, in order, in Dr.Smokes Resolving Kernel Panics and don't leave out any steps.

How do I change the default windows when starting indesign

The default when I start up Indesign is “only the applications bar is showing”. I would like to be able to change the default to having the Tools and Control showing as well as a few windows like pages, styles, swatches, hyperlinks – not ALL of the windows. I’ve tried setting this up when I first open up Indesign and no documents open. But it still changes back to the default whrn I reopen Indesign. Is there anyway to change this?

launch indesign--open and position the panels you want--then go to the workspace menu and save your workspace--then, when you launch Indesign it will appear like your saved workspace

My t-bird opens a duplicate window when starting program. why? Help?

I open my t-bird program and two windows open up. Running v 24.6 on window 8.1 Help?

All other programs on taskbar open on single click. I did the start run t-bird and it opened only the 1 window. I went back to taskbar and now it opens only the one window. Weird. Hopefully when I reboot my pc the problem is fixed. thanks

ITunes store opens in a separate window when starting iTunes

So, I was working on a Windows XP machine the other night and noticed when I started up iTunes, the main iTunes window would open and then another iTunes window would open with the iTunes store loaded. If I closed the window with the iTunes store, both iTunes windows would close.
Has anyone else seen this behavior before? They're running iTunes 7 (don't know the exact version, unfortunately, but I think it's 7.6) and Windows XP Home Edition w/ SP2. How can this behavior be stopped?
Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. I don't know when it started happening but it's happened ever since I ran iTunes to show the computer owner how to purchase music, etc.
There have been several Windows updates run but those ran before I started doing anything with iTunes. I might just need to run an iTunes update since I'm not sure about the actual version, even though I believe it's 7.6.x.
Perhaps simply uninstalling and re-installing would do the trick. I do know I was shocked to see that behavior the first time I ran iTunes.

Blank Message Window when starting Mail.app

Anyone experiencing this in Snow Leopard? Occasionally when I start up Mail.app there will be nothing in the message viewer, "Inbox" is selected still but no messages show and the top bar says Inbox where it usually says Inbox (No. of messages here).
I have to select another folder and then select "Inbox" again before anything shows. I did a clean install + import of mboxes and I already did a rebuild. Just getting a bit irritating.

same situation here. After installing SL on two other Macs the third one is having problems with the Mail app. It starts and is just showing the menubar; no window not even a blank one. After installing just the Mail app again from the DVD, Mail starts and I can get the main window from the menu (Fenster -> Hauptfenster) but I can only see the Mail folders in the left pane, *no message list*, *no preview content*
Even worse, I can't quit the Mail app using the menu. I have to do a *force quit* within the Finder.
I have searched this forum and tryed all the (good) suggestions without success.
What's next?

Yes, yes, I know, it's not good to keep applications open when they aren't designed to be. I'm sure Firefox has some memory leaks and this is doing more harm than good, but...
My computer isn't the greatest out there, and to increase the usability of my Firefox browser it would be nice to keep the firefox.exe process open, even after closing all windows. I know Firefox doesn't totally close if there is at least one Firefox-related window open, but having to open X popup window seems a bit extreme to get this effect.
Additionally, to allow another window to be opened, it would be cool for the "OH NO FIREFOX IS STILL OPEN" prompts to be replaced with just attempting to open a new window, if this feature is enabled.
So, if it exists already, is there a config variable for it, and if it doesn't exist, is it possible to perform somehow? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty if it comes to it; I'd really like to get this happening.
I'm running Windows 7 Home, if it matters. (I'd rather be running another OS, but this is neither the time nor place...)

Avoid opening last application/window when starting

hi,
im currently using osx lion, I have a behaviour to shut down my computer and let the application that currently running closed by itself during shut down (including massive finder windows). But when I turn on my computer again, those windows reappears. While it might be a nice feature, its really bothering for me. Is it possible to tell osx lion NOT to open the last windows opened during shut down?
Im also curious if its possible to do this on safari. I have limited bandwidth, and opening the last windows is annoying.
can anyone help me on this one?

I have this problem at my portal (NW04 SP12) -

I followed the documentation and reached this point:
"If there is no session registration:
a. Set the Application Sharing Server trace file
(defaultTrace.trc) to severity info and try to start a new session.
b. Perform step Enable RTC ActiveX Control Client Logger.
c. Send both the Application Sharing Server defaultTrace.trc and
the activeX log file to support."
Where and how I perform steps "a" and "b"?
And where do I find that trc and log files?

as it follows from the document you cited: (but before that make sure that the screen resolution on machines involved is NOT higher than: 1024*768.)
b. Enable ActiveX client logging on the sharer/viewer machine:
1) in regedit
2) Go to the RTCs key, located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAPPortals\RTC
3) If the key does not exist, create it.
Add the following 3 string valued entries:
a) logdir = String represents an existing directory in which the log needs to be created (for example C:\temp).
b) loglevel = 3.
c) logsize = String represents the bytes size of the log file to be created (for example 10,000).
a. is not so important.
