OWB Information

We are thinking of using OWB. I understand the OWB limitation that only Oracle can be used as a Target and that is acceptable. However I am more interested in hearing about things like Data Quality analysis, Business process Modelling, ease of data Integration capabilites, support for Data Mart loading from the Warehouse, Business Rules validation.

Hi Robin,
OWB has a large number of the things you are interested in. A good start is probably to look on the main OTN pages for some collateral. In the list below I did not spot any big missing components in the current product, and we are extending the BPmodeling with support for BPEL in the near future.
Thanks,

  • Cant deploy in OWB 9.2.0.4.0 after database upgradation

We are facing a problem with OWB 9.2.0.4.0 after the database is upgraded from[b] oracle 9.2.0.1.0 to 9.2.0.8.0.
Initially OWB 9.2.0.4.0 was working fine with oracle 9.2.0.1.0 (i.e. the owb runtime and target schema was in this database) but due to some urgent requirement we need to upgrade the database to oracle 9.2.0.8.0. After the oracle upgradation we cant deploy any ETL object from the OWB design(9.2.0.4.0) to the runtime. Also we cant create any new runtime repositories into the upgraded database.
Can anyone please suggest whether this is happening due to version incompatability?
or is there any patches/scripts that needs to be run after the database upgradation?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
I upgradet a cuple of Times a Database
and use the OWB (and the Workflow) after that again.
I didn´t know exactly what´s going on by you
but maybe after the Upgrade there´re no more OWB Informations in teh Schemata?
You can start the Design Browser (ControlCenter), right?
Question: Is the DesignRepository in the same Instance
    as the Runtime Repository?
If not, then i think it´s the best Way to reinstall the OWB Components using the Runtime Wizzards (runtimeinst.sh under UNIX).
If it is the same Instance try to take a look in the Log-Files from the Upgradeprocess.
You can even try to view the Oracle Documentations
about what´s exactly happened during the Upgrade.
Sorry, i think that didn´t help you very much, but i think at least with a new Installation of the OWB Components you can sure to fix your Problem.

Is you target schema is registered to OWB.
You can check it by connecting OWB with Repositoty owner.
    Global Explorer ->security->Users.
If the user is not there then add the user from here only.

  • How can OWB apply information access control policy?

    Hi friends,
My question is "how can OWB apply information access control policy in DW?"
    Regards

    Hi,
what exactly do you mean by "information access control policy"?
What you cannot do in owb is define grants or virtual private database (vpd) constraints.
What you can do is restrict the developer's access to owb objects in the repository.
    Regards,
    Carsten.

  • OWB 10GR2 - Information

    Hello,
I just want to know if the software OWB 10gR2 is still maintained by oracle (evolutionary maintenance) or in order to fix some bugs we have to upgrade to 11g ?

I guess it depends on the nature of the bug in order for you to successfully upgrade to 11g.

  • How to find verion information for owb?

I have an oracke BI database that I need to migrate to a new server and storage platform for perfomance reasons and the server is running owb but I am not sure which version of owb is installed on the server. The database where the owb repository is 10.1.0.3 on suse linux.
I plan to use oracle dataguard to migrate the database to the new hardware but I am also trying to fond out how to move the owb? Can the owb be installed ahead of time on the new server and then pointed back to the original repository once the database has been replicated to the new hardware?
I am not familiar with the install of owb unfortunately and do not know of you can just install it without creating the repository and then point it to an existing repositor at a later time?
    Appreciate any help,
    Thx.

You can ckeck OWB version in such ways
    - run Oracle Universal Installer and look at Oracle home for OWB installation (OUI display release of installed software including applied patches)
    - or connect to OWB repository owner and execute SQL SELECT RUNTIME_VERSION FROM WB_RT_SERVICE_NODESAfter that install corresponding OWB release on new server (into different from Oracle database Home).
Then follow steps from Metalink note 434272.1 "How To Update Warehouse Builder 10.2 After A Database Cloning" (there are similar Metalink notes for other OWB releases).

The error message RTC-5260 suggests that
This Runtime Access user is not associated with the specified runtime repository. How this can be done?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Vidyanand

    Hi Vidyanand,
Did you create the runtime access user using the runtime assistant? Did you select the correct runtime repository (if you have more) to associate your runtime access user with?
Note that there are 4 database roles being created when you create a runtime repository owner:
    - OWB_A_<runtime repository owner>
    - OWB_D_<runtime repository owner>
    - OWB_R_<runtime repository owner>
    - OWB_U_<runtime repository owner>
If you would grant those roles to a user, then that user becomes an access user for the user with username <runtime repository owner>.
Note that you can also use the runtime repository credentials to connect to the runtime repository for deployment purposes, but you may not want that because of security concerns.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Connect to MSSQL from OWB Linux.

    Hi,
This is almost an embarrasing question to ask because I should be able to find this information but Alas! such is life.
So here goes, I want to be able to connect from my OWB 10gR2 on Linux to Microsoft SQL Server on some windows box. I went into MY_PROJECT->Databases->Non-Oracle->SQL Server and hit create.
I got details for a location that I filled as follows -
    User Name: username
    Password: password
    Host: Host\Instance
    Port: 1433
    Service Name: Instance
    Use Global Name: unchecked
    Schema: username
    When I test this, I get -
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from OWB_1087
Am I missing something? Do I need to do something else? I saw this posting -
Connect to MS SQL server from OWB on Linux platform
    but it seems dated.
I don't know if there are easier ways to connect from OWB Linux to MSSQL Windows in the newer versions. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I recommend watching this viewlet: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/sql_server_source_all/sql_server_source_all_viewlet_swf.html
It shows how to setup connections to SQL Server. However, there is one major change. The viewlet shows how to do this on Windows and you need to do this on Linux. The only step that changes is step 1: setting up the ODBC driver. You will need to find a Linux ODBC driver and driver manager for SQL Server and get that setup. After that you can use the viewlet to setup the Heterogeneous Services.

  • Error when deploying a mapping to Staging in OWB 11gr2

    Hi,
I recieve the following error when I try to deploy a simple Source to Stage mapping:
RPE-01012: Cannot deploy PL/SQL maps to this target schema. The target schema must be in the same instance as the Control Center and have the OWB_USER role granted.
I have spent few hours researching it, but have not yet found a solution.
    My environment:
DB 11gr2 on Red Hat Linux. (OWB Server is on linux and the same machine as its Repository and the 11gr2 db).
    Source is on an Oracle 10.2 DB server in Texas;
Target (Staging env) is in California, also on Oracle 10.2.
I can validate the mapping and the Staging table was deployed sucessfully to the Staging DB.
Do I need to create a repository and workspace on the Target DB (Oracle 10.2) using Repository Assistant? (If that's the case, then would one also need to create OWBSYS?)
    Please help.

This is an urgent request. Would appreciate it if someone could point out what I may be doing wrong.
To summarize, my target DB is on Oracle 10.2 in a remote location, so I ran the 3 scripts that OWB Install documents require: Section: Configuring OWB Installed as a Standalone Instance.
    Cat_web.sql, reset_owbcc_home.sql, and remote_owb_install.sql.
But, when I run the Repository assistant, I get the error above (asking me to install compatible OWB version.)
    Here are the detailed steps:
    1. Ran clean_owbsys.sql
    2. Ran cat_owb.sql (Against USERS Tablespace)
    3. reset_owbcc_home.sql (?? Ora home for Target???)
    4. Ran remote_owb_install.sql (??Ora Home for Target???) -- I have tried different combinations, but no difference.
For Repository Assistant, here are the detailed steps:
    1. Provide connect info for the remote db (host:Port:Service)
    2. Selected "Managed Warehouse Build Workspaces"
    3. Selected "Create a new Warehouse Builder Workspace"
    4. Select "Create a workspace with an existing user as workspace owner" (Since we have user already defined for this role. Should I create a new one??)
    5. Entered Workspace Owner's User Name, Password and created WKS1 as the Workspace.
    6. Entered System / and Password to logon
    7. Provided Owbsys user id and Password and clicked on Next
    8. As soon as I hit Next on the OWBSYS Information screen, I get the error:
"OWB software with the compatible version must be installed locally on the database server machine". If it is installed, acquire the DBA user credentials,
and run the remote_owb_install.sql script on the Oracle Database server machine..."
(I have tried with different paths for the reset_owbcc_home and remote_owb_install scripts)

    Hi Allan,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
I have checked in OWB\Locations\Database\Oracle\Location\DB Connectors and also in Control Center\Location\Connectors,seems like there is no connectors created.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Also i analyzed the UpdateControlCenter.sql in that
    select value into v_connectiontype from cmpstringpropertyvalue_v where logicalname = 'CMPLocation_ConnectionType' and propertyowner = v_elementid;
    the qry returns 'SQL*NET'.
    Any workaround for these???
    Please reply.
