OWB Installation & Repository Configration
Hi All,
I have OWB installed on windows envirnment and my database (Oracle 10gR2) is on Solaris. I am tying to configure the repository in Oracle database.
In order to do that, it prompts me a message asking to have OWB software with the compatible version to be installed locally on the database server machine.
Is it posssible to configure OWB (On Windows) repository databse (on Solaris)?
Or do I need to install any OWB component on repository database as well?
Please suggest.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards,
Sonu Anand
Hi S Anand,
Configuration is quite possible in your case.
warning prompt is just for cnfirming the dedicated control center on same m/c as db server.
Steps to proceed :
1. Check the box : skipping
2. Follow the prompts and enter appropiate inputs
3. Create new OWB User
4. Once configurations completed, start the Contol Service
5. Login to design Center
Feel free to contact !

One schema for OWB Design repository, runtime repository and target schema
Currently we have contents of OWB Design schema, runtime schema and target schema all combined into one schema of the same database in OWB 9.0.2 as well as OWB3i. We like to move to OWB10g in very near future. Can we keep the same structure for convenience of migration in OWB10g? Is it mandatory that OWB design repository (and components) must be separate from OWB run time repository (and components) and target schema? In other words is it possible and workable to use only one schema to contain OWB design repository, OWB run time repository and target schema in OWB10g environment with repositories to be situated on Oracle v9.2.0.1.0? Also what special considerations should be taken to create the database v9.2.0.1.0 and installation of OWB10g. What are the problems/side-effects to have all in one schema?
Also please let me know how to install Oracle Workflow server to be used along with OWB. Will OWB10g work with repository on Oracle database v9.2.0.1.0?
Your prompt advice will be very well appreciated.
SankarThe design repo is a metadata repo that stores all the design-time objects and so forth.
It is an architectural decision that you or your team need to decide on. There are many flexible ways to architect an OWB infrastructure.
Also, your repository users will be using the design repository on the the other DB instance to do their design work...potentially less people always hitting the target database all the time.

Upgrade OWB 3i repository to OWB 9i
I tried to use to Repository Assistant client version 9.0.2.56 to upgrade/create new repository. However I keep getting the error message as "INS0003: OWB Repository Installation cannot continue without DBA privileges. Connect as DBA and use option Create a New Warehouse Builder Repository to continue the process ". But I did put SYS user id and password there.
I also tried to use Repository assistant client version 9.0.3.33.0 to upgrade the existing OWB 3i repository. It's giving me the error message of " This Repository cannot be upgraded to add more languages to support object translations. You must have a version 9.0.3.0.1 repository to upgrade. Version of OWB Repository found 3.0.0.2.0 " However in the HELP, the upgrade function is only for OWB 3i migration to OWB 9i. And the "Add More Languages to Support Object Translations" is the default selection. I can't deselect it.
Does anyone may have any clue of this? I appreciate if you may share with me.Hi,
In order to migrate from OWB3i to a later version, you would have to export the MDL file from OWB3i and import this into the later OWB version. If you choose to use version 9.0.2.56.0, then you have to use the MDL migration utility in the menu to do the migration. Note however that we have already de-supported this version of OWB. Current version is 9.2.0.2.8 for which there is a patch 9.2.0.3 available, about to release 9.2.0.4. Notice that there is a significant difference between OWB3i and 9.2. However, migrated procedures, when re-generated, should run fine. Consider checking out http://otn.oracle.com/products/warehouse/pdf/OWB_RuntimeChanges.pdf for changes in the runtime environment (this applies to 9.2 also).
In the 9.0.3 release of Warehouse Builder we support multiple languages in an existing repository. To add supported languages, you would re-run the repository assistant against an existing repository. This is the message you see. We do not support in-place repository migration from OWB3i for the migration to later releases.

Unable to login to OWB Design Repository
Hi,
While trying to login to OWB Design Repository I am getting an error message, 'SQL EXCEPTION'. Can anybody tell me the reason behind this.
LiyakatHi,
we need much more informations about the problem:
- Login with the OWB, per sqlplus, ...?
- Which error message? Complete text with error number!
- All related informations (version of database and OWB, errorlogs from the installation, ...)

Hi everybody,
I need some help trying to figure out OWB (10gr2), installation process, my developement environment is as follows:
Single Development Server:Sun SPARC, Solaris 10:
- DB Instance A: DB 10gr2, intended purpouse, OWB design repository and control center service.
- DB Instance B: DB 9i: intended purpouse, target schema so it requires OWB runtime repository.
1. As long as I understand I must install OWB software in Instance A, create an OWB design repository through repository assistant and configure(?) control center service.
Q1: how do I create ONLY the design repository? what specific options should I select in the repository assistant? I've read the OWB install and user guides but I can make no sense.
Q2: how to configure control center service, in order to deploy to target schema in instance B?
2. I must create a runtime repository in instance B.
Q3: how do I create ONLY the runtime repository? again, what options should I select? do I need to install OWB sw in instance B?
Any help would be appreciated.
GermanHi,
You're in a very interesting situation.
Here is just my idea.
I think your implement strategy will be somthing like "Separate Design and Runtime Environments Implementation". You can see very detail information about this in the Installation Guide.
But something special for you is that you have to set up the target location property to 9i so that the generated PL/SQL will be 9i scripts.
As to your Questions,
Q1: when you follow the Advance Setup, you'll see how to do.
Q2: You'll do that by register the target location.
Q3: The software can be installed on the client machine (instead of inside the Instance). In the instance, you just created the repository (OWB metadata repository or Runtime repository).
I've been using OWB for some years by using R10.1 and just start to get into R10.2. So my answers are just a reference to you.

OWB 10gR1 Repository and 10gR2 Database
Hi,
we have a problem in installing OWB Design Repository 10gR1 on 10gR2 Database. The Repository assistant hangs with message "INS0003 The User should have DBA privileges to complete the installation". I'm connected as SYS....

Hakon. Her is a workaround I get from Oracle, may it works. Till this time I can't test it, try it on your own risk.

Using the 050621 shiphome release of 10gR2 on Linux we have noticed the INTERACTIONEXECUTE stored procedure is defined with definer rights - it should be invoker rights.
Using the stored procedure to create an AW will create the AW in the SYS schema.
The only workaround is to redefine the stored procedure in the SYS schema with invoker rights.
CREATE OR REPLACE function interactionexecute(input CLOB) return varchar2 AUTHID CURRENT_USER

Estimation of dbsize in OWB Runtime Repository
Hi,
I would like to know the procedure how to estimate the dbsize required for owb runtime repository.
Any help would be appreciated greatly.
Thank you,
Regards,
Gowtham Sen.OK, a quick empirical test shows me that an average mapping at that level seems to generate about 15 rows in the audit tables - more, of course, if errors occur in the mapping as under your audit level it must also save this information.
Another quick check of the average row lengths in most of the wb_rt_audit tables, and I'll over-estimate and call it 250 bytes per row.
So, a bit of quick math:
(450 mappings per day) x (100 days) x (20 rows (overestimate) ) = 900,000 rows
Round up to a million rows for safety, and then multiply out by our average row length of 250bytes, and you have a requirement of 250MB of space for audit info - and that didn't include indexes.
Throw in the storage for your mapping metadata referenced by the runtime engine (you could measure this by the storage used right after deployment), guesstimate index spaces, leave room for safety, and with your requirements I'd probably want to start with around 400 MB which I would monitor for the first while.
But, this is just educated guesswork on my part as I normally leave this up to our DBA to deal with
Cheers,

Hi ,
Can someone please provide me a document on OWB installation on 10g RAC.
Thanks in advance...
SandipanNot sure if this helps, but the new Administration Class (from Oracle University) has a complete chapter on how to do this. The materials in there are awsome and I would recommend taking this class...

Hi All,
Is there any document from where I can get a decent insight into the OWB design repository tables and their functions.
Being a bit more specific, while working in OWB 10gR1 I have experienced situations where a mapping suddenly shows a null pointer exception and becomes un-editable, and un-deployable and un-executable. The only solution then is to make the mapping from scratch. If I can know which all design repository tables are involved in storing a mapping information, then perhaps I can go to the backend fix the issue and retrieve the mapping.
Please let me know if any of you have any infomation regarding this.
Regards
-APThanks a lot for your information. It gives me some idea of the tables from which these read only views are created.
I hope, in order to understand more what these underlying tables are for, I need to scratch my head :))

OWB 10gr2 repository installation problem
Hi,
When I try to install repositoy in owb10g r2
repository assistant -> advance setup... all those steps cleared
last installation progress popup window is came
at arnd 88% of installation(MESSG:installing warehouse builder repository owner )suddenly everything is disappearring..
Could any one help me out in this..
Thanks in advance.I had faced this problem once. The database I was installing into, had been manually created. It did not have many of the components required for the installation.
I had to throw away the database and create a new one using DBCA. But in my case, the databases were new. These components can be installed separately, but a bit of searching is required to find what all components are required.

Hi,
I am trying to create a OWB repository for 10g R2 using OMB and it fails with the following error:
OWB repository installtion failed. The Warehouse Builder repository owner installation failed on user OWBRO.
Exception occured in 'processSPAWN'. java.io.IOException: ../unix/jvm.sh: cannot execute
I have other databases on the same software installation and the OWB repository has been installed successfully on the other databases.
Has anyone encountered this error? What do I do? Please help....Hi
According to Metalink (Note:2391278.8), this might be a bug that should have been fixed in patch 9.2.0.6 but another note on Metalink said that in fact it isn't fixed (Note:345155.1) until release 10gR1 (Bug No. 4187886).
Now, if this is the case it is strange that we don't see this more often. So, I am afraid that there is little that can be done except upgrading to 10g (which might perhaps not be possible in your case) or open a TAR with Oracle

Everytime time the runtime repository installing halts when about 60 percent is done.
So if anybody could assist me, i would be forever grateful...
Thanks for advance....This is a bug 3043523, affecting non-English repository installs. It's documented and fixed in 9.2.0.4 patchset. For a customer I would say patch to 9.2.0.4 before attempting to create the runtime repository. But I figured you don't have access to the patches, since they are distributed through Oracle Support's site metalink.oracle.com, where only Oracle customers can login to. So would it be an option for you to install the English language repository?

OWB Installation issue: oracle.ide.ExitNowAllowedException
Hi experts,
I'm facing to a problem during the installation process: I'm using a Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.4 with the Oracle Database 11gR2.
I've unlocked and changed the password to the OWBSYS user, I start the installation following this tutorial
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_owb/owb11g_update_getting_started_intro/lesson1/less1_start.htm
but after the step "Repository Assistant Summary" (step 14 in the tutorial), the one before starting the real installation, I face this error:
"+The Warehouse Builder workspace owner installation failed on user OWBSYS.+
+Exception occured in 'processLoadJavaToken'.+
+oracle.ide.ExitNowAllowedException+"
Did anybody faced with the same issue?
Thank you!

You can access Repository Assistance by Start > Programs > {your Oracle - OWB11gR1clientHome} > Warehouse Builder >Administration >Repository Assistance
You can also run the reposinst.bat script located at <OWB_HOME>\owb\bin\win32 to invoke Repository Assistance
Then follow the steps mentioned in the tutorial .
Thanks,
Sutirtha
