now i want to test owb.
what is the diference between them? owb is only for olap? which one is better? can i use jdev&bi beans with owb?
please help! i need some directions....
tnx

As far as I know OWB and ODI fall under the same licence now (at least in UK), so if you're licenced to use OWB + ETL options you're probably licenced to use ODI. Check with your friendly Oracle Account Manager :¬)
Why are you thinking about moving to ODI, what limitations have you come across with OWB? A better upgrade path may be to OWB 11gR2 now that it supports (ODI) knowledge modules and has better integration with OBIEE (if use use that).
If you search this forum and the ODI forum you'll find a number of posts on the subject, I posted a similar question a few months back after which we decided to stick with OWB. Oracle have stated they will provide a migration path to a single product in the future.

  • OWB and OEM Version ERROR (Urgent)

    Hi All,
I am using OracleWarehouse builder version 9.2.0.2.0.8 and OEM version 9.2.0.2.0.10 and i am getting error while creating cubes in OEM. Is it due to different versions of OWB and OEM.
Please Let me know, if anyone knows about it.
    with regards

    Hi Mukesh,
You do not need to create the dimensions in OEM, you can use Warehouse Builder to do this.
On how to do this, check out this viewlet: http://otn.oracle.com/products/warehouse/htdocs/OLAP_viewlet_swf.html, and perhaps take a look at the following whitepaper: http://otn.oracle.com/products/warehouse/pdf/Enabling_OLAP_with_OWB.pdf.

  • OWB versus ODI

    Hi all,
We are currently using OWB10g at our company and are considering the benefits of switching over to ODI.(Cost will also be a deciding factor). I need some suggestions from people who have used both OWB and ODI-could you compare what is better in ODI and what is not etc?
    Thanks.

  • Authentication Error when I execute JOBS in OEM registered by OWB !!

    Hi !
As I saw in the last question JOBS with
    authentication error it's a commum problem ....
So follow I will detail what's happening with me:
I4m using the OWB and I did a map to extract data from two tables
on my source database and populate a destination dimension table, in my destination database.
    I deploy this map, it4s sucesfull;
    I run the map from OWB and it populates the destination dimension table perfectly;
    I saved the TCL file and it4s OK;
    I choose "Register in OEM" option and it register sucesfull;
but ... when I open the OEM and run the job from OEM, it fails !
    It give this error:
    VNI-2015 : Authentication error
Even when I try do it with "sysman" user
    Could you help me ?
    Thanks,
    Renato

    Hi,
Please check whether you have carried out these steps. Because I had the same problem and I resolved it.
    1. I reckon you would have installed OWB and OEM.
    2. In OEM if you are using the default SYSMAN user for running jobs, you should create the user SYSMAN in the OWB schema and assign the role SYSDBA, DBA AND OEM_MONITOR.
    3. If you created a new user in OEM to run the jobs, you should create the user in OWB schema and assign the roles SYSDBA, DBA & OEM_MONITOR.
    4. Then under your Windows NT/2000, create the OEM user and assign the user the rights "Logon as Batch Job to Run" previlege.
    5. Configur OEM preferred credintials for NODE, DATABASE with proper values. The NODE user/password must be the one you have created under step 4.
    6. Configur OWB with the OEM user. This can be done under Projects/Preferences, selecting OEM tab. The user/password must be thesame as under step 4.
If you do these things, not necessarily in the order mentioned, you should be able to run the jobs.
    Best of luck.

    Hi,
I assume you are using OWB 2.0.4.78.
If you are getting a progress box which does move beyond 0% then this is due to a bug in this release.
I suggest that you apply the patch and upgrade to 2.0.5. The patch file available for download from metalink site is some 44Mb in size.
    This should solve your problem.

  • WorkFlow OWB Jobs

Is there a way to run the Workflow jobs independent of Oracle clients (OWB and OEM)? We currently have OWB client for windows installed on our machine and cannot use windows to run our jobs in our production environment. Is there a way to run OWB jobs in unix?

    Hi,
Assuming the 3 users/schemas after the OWB installations are owb, owbuser, owbrun(runtime)
Login with Owbuser ID/pwd to Unix sqlplus
then execute the following line (all in one line)
    @/build/owb92/owb/rtp/sql/oem_exec_template.sql owbrun CDS_TXN_LOAD_PROCESS_FLOW_LOC PROCESS CDS_TXN_LOAD_PROCESS_FLOW_01 "," ","
    where
    @/build/owb92/owb/rtp/sql/oem_exec_template.sql - complete path of oem_exec_template.sql file
    CDS_TXN_LOAD_PROCESS_FLOW_LOC - process flow location
    CDS_TXN_LOAD_PROCESS_FLOW_01 - process flow name
PROCESS - keyword to run workflow process

  • Deployment of SAP mappings

i have created numerous mapping in OWB to extract, transform and load data from SAP tables. this of course includes dimension and fact data.
i understand that they are ABAP mappings so ABAP source code and an SQL Loader control file will be created for each type of mapping.
    my question is :-
    1) do we have to manually deploy the ABAP program to the SAP server ?
    2) if we want to schedule the data to load periodically, do we have to manually know how to define background jobs in SAP ?
    3) do we schedule a periodic process at the OS level to manually FTP the data and control files over to our data warehouse "staging" area ?
    4) and lastly, on the data warehouse environment, we again have to manually establish a period background process to load the data from the transferred flat files
i am concerned due to the number of dependencies involved in this whole process, than in event any errors occur, it might be difficult to diagnose and pinpoint the failure. does Oracle provide any sample scripts or guidelines to streamline this process ?
sorry for the long questions but i have a project to deliver and these concerns are making us contemplate on whether we should proceed further ...
looking forward to your replies. thanks !

    Duncan,
    See the answers below:
    1) do we have to manually deploy the ABAP program to the SAP server ?If you generate ABAP you have to deploy it in the standard way by uploading it through the SAP UI. This is a one time activity.
    2) if we want to schedule the data to load periodically, do we have to manually know how to define background jobs in SAP ? There are numerous ways to do this - either manually through SAP or by using system management tools. Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) is the preferred tool to do this kind of operation for Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB). OEM is OWB's standard scheduler. OEM has a SAP Management Pack. Take a look at the following documents for this pack:
    - installation guide: http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oem/doc_library/sap/sap_inst.pdf
    - getting started: http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oem/doc_library/sap/sap_gs.pdf
    3) do we schedule a periodic process at the OS level to manually FTP the data and control files over to our data warehouse "staging" area ?- this can be done by OEM (OWBs standard scheduler).
    4) and lastly, on the data warehouse environment, we again have to manually establish a period background process to load the data from the transferred flat files - this can be done by OEM (OWBs standard scheduler).
i am concerned due to the number of dependencies involved in this whole process, than in event any errors occur, it might be difficult to diagnose and pinpoint the failure. does Oracle provide any sample scripts or guidelines to streamline this process ?- OWB's standard way of scheduling jobs and managing dependencies is to use OEM for scheduling (as already mentioned) and Oracle Workflow (OWF) for defining jobs flows (including dependencies). In other words, you define your jobs (with dependencies) in OWF and schedule them in OEM. OEM, OWF and OWB are tightly integrated and there is a whole chapter about this process and how to configure and run it in the OWB documentation. See chapter 10 in the user's guide (find the user's guide at http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/warehouse/content.html ).

  • Warehouse Builder - Workflow - How to integrate both?

    Hi All
I have installed Oracle Workflow Server in a SUN machine; and the Oracle
Workflow Client (Builder) in a WIN2000 machine.
In the SUN machine, I already had installed Oracle9i and OMS (Oracle
    Management Server) version 9.2.0.1.0.
In the WINDOWS 2000 machine, I already had installed the Oracle9i
Client and the OWB (Oracle Warehouse Builder) version 9.0.3.35.0. Workflow Builder
was installed together with Oracle Client components.
I have a OWB (Oracle Warehouse Builder) project, and I deploy and schedule JOBS in OEM.
Now I need Oracle Workflow in order to better ordering, manage and schedule that jobs.
    I'm reading the following documentation:
    Oracle Workflow Guide (Release 2.6.2)
    http://www.csis.gvsu.edu/GeneralInfo/Oracle/workflow.920/a95265.pdf
But I think Oracle Workflow is very complex to learn quickly.
My OWB Project has several mappings that load tables in a Data Warehouse.
When I deploy these mappings one by one, in OEM, I can execute them in OEM
    and they work well.
But when I use the Workflow Deployment Wizard, I create a new Workflow
    Project (Item type and Process).
But I can't Launch this process. I go to Launch Process in Workflow page
(http://<my_machine>:<port>/pls/<WorkDAD>/) but when I iniciate the project,
it stops in the OWB Standard Begin Function. It does not go ahead.
Well, when I use the Workflow Deployment Wizard inside OWB, it generates jobs that can
be viewed inside OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) too. But when I submit
these jobs, I can't get success too.
Can somebody help me? May you guide me in order to solve my problem, or send me some
documents or links about workflow, and it's integration with OWB and OEM?

Mark, I've already made the steps you suggested.
As it did not works yet, I will explain step by step what I've made, and the versions of the softwares:
In my Win2000 machine (development) I have installed:
    - OWB version "9.0.3.33.0" and updated it to "9.0.3.35.0". (in a Oracle9iDS ORACLE_HOME).
    - the OEM version "9.2.0.1.0" and Oracle Workflow Builder version "2.6.1.5.2" (in a Oracle9i ORACLE_HOME), both were installed with Oracle9i Client. Here maybe an error is the OWF Builder version, is there an newer version of it?
In a SUN SOLARIS machine (the server) we have installed:
    - OMS version "9.2.0.1.0".
    - OWF Server version "2.6.2" (installed with Oracle "9.0.2.1").
    - Apache HTTP Server version "1.3" (also installed with Oracle "9.0.2.1").
    - The repository for OWB, OEM and OWF (both 3 are different schemas in one database), and the target Warehouse (another database) are installed in this machine (SUN) too.
Well, working in my OWB project I can normaly deploy my tables, views and mappings in the target warehouse.
I can also run these jobs (generated by OWB) and they populate the Warehouse tables. It is exactly what I need, but now I need to schedule and order these jobs in workflow, you know.
When I run the Workflow Deployment Wizard (in OWB), in the "connect information for the Workflow Server" screen, I fill in with the "owf_mgr" username and its password. In the next screen I choose one or more mappings.
Next, suppose I fill in the Workflow Item Type as WIT_DW and the Workflow Process as WP_DW.
And in the last screen, I check the option "Deploy the Workflow Process into OEM".
It generates 4 jobs in OEM:
    - WIT_DW_OWB_STD_BEGIN
    - WIT_DW_OWB_STD_END
    - WIT_DW_OWB_STD_ERROR
    - WIT_DW_WP_DW
Next, I go to the Oracle Workflow Builder, open the project I've created (in the Database), make the flow, and save the project.
Next, I come back to the OEM and Submit the "WIT_DW_WP_DW" job, but it does not work. So, there's something wrong yet.
    About the Workflow Queue Listener:
    - Together with OWB 9.0.33.3.0 installation, there's the directory "extras\wfql_unix". I copied this directory contents inside "$ORACLE_HOME" in SUN.
    - Inside OWB, in the Warehouse Module, in the "Configuration Properties DATA_WAREHOUSE" screen, I filled in the "Run
Time Directories > Queue Listener Directory" field with "/disk1/oracle/owb/bin/solaris". (It's the local where the workflowqlsnr.sh is located). And in the field "Queue Listener Host" I put the name of the SUN machine.
    - But I can't run the workflowqlsnr.sh with success. Some java errors occurs. Is there anything to do or configure yet?
More questions (Please I'd very glad if you could help me):
    - Is there some thing I need to configure in the Workflow Manager page?
E.g., change or add Background Engine / Agent Listener / Queue Propagation / Purge.
    - Is there some thing I need to configure in the Workflow home page?
    - How do I erase the Workflow Items Type in the Workflow Home Page? I runned the "workflowqclr.sh" but it didn't erase.
    Thanks again

    You wrote:
    Adriano,
In order to manage the dependencies between the mappings using Oracle Workflow you have to do the following:
    - Deploy your mappings (PL/SQL into the database; ABAP to the SAP machine; SQL loader on to the target database's file system).
    - Register all mappings in OEM (that is, using the tcl scripts and the OEM register button).
    - Run the Workflow deployment wizard to create the process steps in Oracle Workflow. At the end of the wizard, you can choose to create Workflow jobs to invoke the process flow.
    - Use Workflow Builder to build the actual process flow (so far you have only created the process steps). Save the process.
    - Either use OEM to submit the process or use the workflowqlsnr.sh to invoke the workflow queue listener manually. In order to use OEM, make sure you have set the Workflow Queue listener path correctly in the configuration of the target module.
Then... figgers crossed... it should work.
    Hope this helps,
    Mark.

I think this might be more of an OWB question, and how OWB uses workflow, I have sent an email internally to try and get someone to responsd. You should also consider contacting Oracle Support if you are having these kinds of problems.

  • Upgrading 12" Powerbook G4 hard drive & OS X 10.5--please help?

So, I’ve decided I want to venture into upgrading my Powerbook G4 hard drive, RAM, and OS. Currently I have:
    512 RAM
    1.5 Ghz
    80 GB 5400 HD
    Mac OS X 10.4.11
What I would like to upgrade to:
    1.25GB RAM (max)
    1.5 Ghz
    160-320GB 5400 (7200 if possible) HD
    Mac OS X 10.5
Now here comes my questions. The RAM upgrade is straightforward. The HD upgrade seems simple enough when using tutorials on ifixit.com. I am wondering though, does the HD need to be ATA-100 or could it be ATA-133? Are DMA, Ultra DMA, UDMA, DMA-100, ATA, ATA-100, IDE, and EIDE all the same thing and all compatible with the 12" powerbook G4?
Assuming the hard drive speed is 5400 and I have RAM maxed out, are there performance differences between say a 160GB 5400 HD and a 320GB 5400 HD? Would it be better just to get the biggest HD that is compatible with my PB?
Also, FRYS.COM has "retail hard drive kits" and "bare HDs" What’s the difference between the two?
    Finally:
Once I figure out which HD I want, I will have new: Hard Drive, RAM, and a Mac OS X 10.5 DVD Purchased from an Apple Store. I will install the RAM. Now I will be left with a HD and OSX 10.5 DVD...how do I get the new OS on the new HD?

The hard drive needs to be a parallel ATA 2.5" notebook hard drive. ATA-100 or ATA-133 or the others you listed don't matter. You cannot use a serial ATA or SATA hard drive, that's important. Here are two online stores and their parallel ATA drives available: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150380%201035907 889&name=ATA-6 and http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ (Click on 2.5" ATA laptop drives).
You'll note there aren't any 7200rpm drives listed, as they aren't made anymore for the parallel ATA interface. Choose whatever size works for you, and if increasing the size, make sure you have capacity to backup the new, larger hard drive, as you fill it up.
You only need the bare hard drive. There can be a difference between a retail boxed version versus OEM, as the warranty can be different, but that's about it.
After you install the hard drive, you insert the first OS X disk in the system, boot holding the C key down (so the system boots from the disk), choose Disk Utility from the menu bar, and partition the drive. Once done, you can do the OS X installation. If you don't hold the C key down and the system wants to install OS X, after you tell it what language you want, as soon as a menu bar appears, then you can run Disk Utility.

  • Workflow, OEM with OWB 9.0.4

How do I register a workflow process which I've created in OWB 904 to execute with OEM, or for that matter, kick one off at the command line (solaris)?
Do I need workflow client to register this with OEM? Since it was listed as optional, I don't have it installed, and as yet, my dba can't get it (workflow client) working yet on 9iAS.

Oh Thank you Mark! I'm looking at the sqlplus script, but I can't seem to get the right syntax for the task name parameter to kick off a workflow process.
There's the process module, then process package, then process name, however, process name isn't unique for all packages...
I'm assuming the task name parameter should look like:
    process_mod.process_pack.process_name
but this isn't finding the object.

  • OWB - OEM issue?

    OWB - OEM issue?
We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31 (Win XP). The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
I find OEM (10.2.0.0.0 with oracle database ver 10.2.0.0.0) part of OWB program folder. As I start OEM, I creted the database connection in OEM explorer. I tried to loggin to created database connection.
    I got “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
It was working all day in OWB/Sqlplus before starting OEM. I noticed OEM changed my tnsnames.ora file in OWbhome\network\admin directory using timestamp.
I came out of OEM session. All my logins via OWB/SQLpus/SQL developer results in “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
I checked via tnsping on command window, which results in “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
I restored my tnsnames.ora from backup, all are working except OEM.
Did anyone use OEM with OWB?
Any idea, what is going on ?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi,
over the connection goes not only the sql statements for connecting, also much auditing and logging informations goes from one machine to the other. So development and database should be as near as possible for better speed.
Perhaps working direct on the server will increase the speed?

  • How can I execute a OWB ProcessFlow without OEM?

I have created the "process flow" in the OWB,and I want execute it in my applicaton, not through OEM,how can I do it?

In order to use OWF without OEM, you can start the script owb/rtp/sql/oem_exec_template.sql in a sql session.
(Do the same as needed in OEM):
The mandatory parameters for the script are as follows:
    - Runtime Repository Owner
    - Target location
    - Target Type: either one of the PL/SQL, SQL_LOADER, or PROCESS.
    - Task name (name of the mapping/or process flow)
    - System parameters (comma separated, enclosed by double quotes; comma and \ can be escaped by \)
    - Custom parameters (see system parameters)
    Example :
    @oem_exec_template.sql MY_RUNTIME MY_WORKFLOW PROCESS MY_PROCESS "," ","
If you need more information, please refer to the user documentation : Scheduling Mappings and Process Flows

  • How to use OEM location in OWB?

What is a purpose of oem location in owb 9.2 (9.0.4)?
This location doesn't use in any module and integration with oem realize through oem_exec_template.sql script that manually register in oem.
    How to use this location?

    Dmitry,
This location would be used in the process flow configuration of an individual activity. The location enables you to perform remote node execution. For example, if you wanted to execute SQL loader on a remote node (not the actual target machine) then this would happen via the OEM location. The use of the OEM location would require an Oracle Management Server (OMS) set up and OEM agents locally.
    Mark.
