OWB Windows vs. AIX

Hi,
On Oracle OWB download page, we have OWB for Windows, and OWB for AIX. If I want to install OWB client on Windows and repository (Oracle DB) on AIX, do I need to download both version? What's the difference between these two versions?
Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,
you need to do both installation:
OWB Software on AIX-Server and OWB Client on Windows.
Then from Windows Client, start the Repository assistant (Start-->Programms--> Warehouse Builder --> Administration --> Repository assistant) for Konfiguration
Please refer to the Installation and Administration Guide
10g Release 2 (10.2.0.2) for Windows and UNIX

We have Oracle BI 10g installed on MS Windows Server 2003 and AIX 5.3. After copying web catalog from Windows to AIX we can see Dasboard pages, but drill down crashes Presentation server.
Web catalog created on AIX works perfectly. Does anybody know how to move web catalog from Windows to AIX?

  • SAPDB migration from Windows to AIX

    Dear all:
We are planning to do the content server migration. SAPDB7.3 to MaxDB7.6, from Windows2000 IA32 to AIX 64bit. I checked note 962019, but get confused on one point,
Note 962019 said "You must use the same binary-compatible loader for the entire export an import", it means in my case I have to use the AIX 64bit "loadercli" tool to export the SAPDB on my Windows IA32 system, Can the AIX 64bit version "loadercli" tool run on Windows IA32 system? How can I install the AIX64 bit loadercli on the my Windows 2000 system? I checked note 649814 on how to install the SAPDB/MAXDB client software including loadercli, but they're different patch package for windows and AIX. I don't know how to install the AIX loader on the Windows platform.
Who has done this kind of migration before? Please give some advice.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Donglin,
I believe that I answered your question in the other thread.
So you may close this one.

  • One little endian - Windows to AIX possible?

    Hello all,
I'm trying to find out if it is possible to use Oracle 11g RMAN to copy/convert an existing database on a Windows 64bit platform to AIX 6.1 platform.
Per the10g document below, it seems the restriction is based on the endian order (32 bit, 64 bit, etc.).
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/dbxptrn.htm#CHDCFFDI
The principal restriction on cross-platform transportable database
is that the source and destination platform must share the same
    endian format.
For example, while you can transport a database from Microsoft
Windows to Linux for x86 (both little-endian), or from HP-UX to AIX
(both big-endian), you cannot transport a whole database from
HP_UX to Linux for x86 using this feature. So: is it true if the Windows database is on a 32 bit platform, then RMAN cannot copy/convert the database from the windows platform to the AIX platform
And by contrast, is it true that it would be possible for RMAN to copy/convert the database from Windows to AIX if the Windows platform were 64 bit?
Also, it seems there are still files that would have to be recreated manually (redo logs, controlfiles, spfile, etc.).

  • OWB Windows Client Accessing Unix Directory

Can a OWB client running on a Windows machine access a Unix Directory Structure?
I'm creating a module for Source flat files using my OWB Client on Windows 2000. Can I access the Unix Direcory structure for these files using the OWB Windows Client.

There are several issues that you may be concerned about here...
First, When you create the Flat File Module you are given the opportunity to enter a directory for this module. This directory is used when importing File metadata via a process OWB calls "sampling". At the time of the "sampling" your OWB client requires direct access to the actual physical flat file. If you are running the OWB client on a Windows PC and wish to access the physical files stored in on a unix machine, you will need some kind of "protocol handler" to make this work. NFS software (i.e. 3rd party) [ as discussed previosly] is the recommended (i.e. highest overall performance, etc) access method. There are others, Samba (which is free, would need to be installed on your unix machine) makes unix directories exported like Windows "shares". These steps are necessary to get direct access to the physical data so that it can be read and help guide you on the way to defining the metadata (ie structure) of the file. If you switch to using a Unix client, the "connection" information for the Flat File Module will have to be "re-entered" to be relative to that particular host.
Second, When you deploy a map which uses the flat file as a source, a SQL*Loader control file will be created to read the data and populate a target table. Im the production versions of OWB, you need to configure the map and supply physical connection information relative to the machine on which the SQL*Loader control file is to be run. So if your database is hosted on a Unix machine, and that is where the SQL*Loader process is to be executed, the "path" information would need to be specified in the unix format and from the database's perspective.

  • Migrating flat file in OBIEE from Windows to AIX

    Hello guys
I have a rpd built in my local windows environment and now it is ready to be pushed into Dev environment.. In my rpd, I have some flat files imported and configure for reporting, and the files are located in a windows directory..
My concern is, after migrating my rpd to Dev environment, since the DEV OBIEE server is running on AIX server, it may disconnect from flatfile DB in windows and result in no being able to report against the flat file..
Have you guys ever encounter such case? and how do you go about dealing with it?
    Your thoughts are much appreciated
    Thank you

    Mark,
You should be able to binary transfer the fmb / pll across and then recompile.
Anything windows specific would be a show stopper, otherwise I haven't had problems (also going back from Link to Windows) - but then my Forms are usually pretty simple.
The biggest pain is case sensitivity - Unix is and Windows isn't. You should standard all file names if you can and the biggest pain are the attached libraries - especially with Designer Generated Forms as one of them is InitCapped somewhere. For this I usually have to create an FMT / PLD and see what the form thinks the library is actually called in the attachment. Have fun!

  • OWB 9.2 AIX is available

OWB[u] 9.2 on AIX is available for download on OTN:
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/warehouse/index.html
    Instructions:
Here are the instructions to un-tar and install from the owb92aix.tar file
    - transfer owb92aix.tar to the machine where the install is to take
    place
    - put it into an empty directory w/ at least 2G disk space
    - un-tar from it using "tar xf owb92aix.tar"
    - cd into the owb92aix directory
    - cd into the Disk1 directory
    - the contents of this directory is exactly what CD #1 is, so the
install should start here by executing the runInstaller script from here
    CD Pack
OWB 9.2 on AIX is being added to the Oracle 9.2 AIX database pack and will be available in about 10 business days.

    Phil and all,
We have continuously stressed the importance of the OWB AIX port to the porting team. Unfortunately it is not our direct development team that does the porting. The porting team has told us that the 10g beta 2 release goes first; OWB is next. For whatever reason there has been a delay and we also bang our heads against the wall.
Unfortunately the only 'real' option you have to target AIX is to temporarily use the OWB904 release and use patch 2864550 or 2864560 (depending on the database release) for the server-side installation. Luckily to migrate from OWB904 to OWB92 is relatively little effort.
    Thank you for your patience.
    Mark.

  • Can i use same NW 2004s DVD for windows and AIX

I have NW2004s Installation DVDs which i use to install in Windows Server
Can i use the same dvds to use in IBM AIX Machine

    Hi Balaji,
I feel , SAP supplies the Software keeping in mind the the Customer Order and the OS/DB  and you may not use the DVDs of Windows to install on AIX as the material Nos of the CDs/DVDs are different e.g.
Kernel DVD                    51032891_1(AIX)    51032893_13(64 Bit WIn)
also watch out for 32 bit/64 bit.
    Hope this is useful.

  • Migrating Forms from Windows to AIX

Currently deploying on AS 9.0.2 on Windows Nt.
I wish to review what difficulties I would face
attempting to generate the same application code to
be executed on an AIX unix machine.
I am aware of User_Exit deployment issues,
    but apart from that...
    1. Are the only portable files :- .Fmt .Mmt .Olt .Pld etc.
Do I have to transfer the above files, and convert them
to binary, and THEN generate them, OR can I copy
the .Fmb .Mmb .Olb .Pll etc files to the AIX box and
generate these without having to consider the .Fmt...
    2. Are forms running on an Application Server on windows
EXPECTED to handle in exactly the same way as when
executed on AIX? Eg Validation triggers, layout, etc...
    3. Are there any other potential show-stoppers I should be
    aware of.
    4. Where might I find additional documentation concerning
    similar issues.

  • Oracle Drop command taking more time in AIX When compared to Windows

    Hi
We are firing a normal Drop command on our database and the databse version is 10.2.0.4.The catabase is running on AIX v5.The command is taking more time than usual .
There are no waits on session.Let me try to put the scenario in more simple terms.I have a nested table NT_TEST with record count 0 and i am dropping the statement using "Drop table NT_TEST" in windows it is getting dropped say some 218 Milli seconds.
The same table when i am dropping it in AIX it is taking around 6 seconds.
There are no locks ,Flashback is off,Triggers are not involved.Drop is not waiting on any transaction to complete.
Could anybody help me out on this.

Quite possible. On most Unixes asynchronous I/O requires purchasing extra options, and most sites just purchase the default O/S. Or asynchronous I/O is not enabled by default or the database is located on an ufs file system.
You provided no info at all on your AIX configuration. AIX does have asynchronous I/O, it is not always enabled, and the number of slaves is usually way too low.
As root, run smit aio and report the results.
At his point your unfavorable comparison of Windows and AIX is quite unfair. Unix doesn't run out of the box.
You know that famous joke 'If operating systems were airplanes'?
In that joke, the Unix airplane is assembled on the spot, but the Windows airplane is three months late.

  • OWB 9.2 for AIX release date

    Hello,
I was told by an Oracle representative that Warehouse Builder 9.2 for AIX would ship on december 15th. Apparently it is not yet available for download from OTN.
When can we expect OWB 9.2 for AIX to be available for download?

  • Error installing OWB 10.2.0.1 repository on for AIX

    Hi!
I'm trying to install OWB repository on AIX with repository assistant, but I'm stuck with the following error included on the log file generated:
INS0017: Installation of the seeded data failed.
    oracle.wh.util.parser.ParseException:
Internal Error: id generation error. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and details on how to reproduce it.
I read several posts and workaround about dropping schemas and roles, but none was effective.
Also tried using "thin" user jdbc driver.
This would be the first repository for OWB 10.2.0.1.
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Response time much more in migrated AIX database than in Windows database

We migrated a 9.2.0.6 database from windows to AIX (on same oracle version). Initially we were getting really slow response on direct sqls and batch sqls fom application server. Then we tuned aix database a bit and got a better response time for direct sqls on aix database.
Now queries run faster on aix database than the db on windows.
However, the queries from applciation (ACCURATE application) are still twice slower on aix database compared to windows database.
Can anyone suggest a possible cause or tuning area?
We have checked on network level and found no bottlenecks.

if you have particular queries that you know of that are behaving differently, you could start right away by comparing the execution plans and tracing the execution using the SQL trace facility and the "tkprof" trace file analyzer.
If you want to get an overview of the database performance, you should consider installing STATSPACK on both systems if you haven't done so yet and create snapshots to compare statspack reports from both systems for a representative time period. This way you can gather information about the top wait events and top SQLs of the periods analyzed.
By the way, how did you "migrate" the database? Did you use export/import to migrate? What about the statistics for the cost based optimizer, could these be different between the two systems or are you still using the rule based optimizer?
