Owners can't update their distribution groups - Outlook/Exchange 2013

I've seen some things online about this but I'm relatively new to this so I wasn't able to follow.  I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out.
We have a brand new Exchange 2013 environment and users using Outlook 2013.  We want to set Owners on all our Distribution groups so that the managers of the departments can manage their own groups instead of having to ask IT to add or remove people
all the time.
We went into the groups and added owners to them thinking that this would allow the owners to add and remove people from their groups right from within the Outlook client.  However, when they try to do that, they get the error stating "Changes
to public group membership cannot be saved"
It looks like I need to grant some permissions to the users or something but I'm not following where I need to go to do that.  Can I do something from within the Exchange 2013 Admin Center web interface to fix this?  Any step-by-step instructions
would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks,
I had seen these before but most specifically mention Exchange 2010.  Are they all still applicable?
I followed the steps in the first link since they were easier to figure out, but it seems that if I put someone in that group, they then have the ability to modify ANY group and not just the one they are an Owner of.  That doesn't work if that's how
it would have to be.  We just want to be able to assigned certain people to edit certain groups from within Outlook.
hmm
OK so the script from the first link seems to give people permissions to edit ANY distribution list which is not what I wanted.  I was able to use the script linked here that worked fine:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/18/how-to-manage-groups-that-i-already-own-in-exchange-2010.aspx
Took a bit to get it working but now it seems to only allow people to edit groups they Own and not other groups.

  • Define if users or functional owner can self-approve their own requests-OIM

I have a scenario where in if a user replaces his manager as proxy and makes a request for a resource, the approval task triggered goes to the user itself and the user can approve it. I want to deactivate this functionality.
I was told that since BP12 has been applied, OIM allows us to define if users or functional owner can self-approve their own requests. Is this possible and if yes then how to go about it??
    Thanks in advance.

Per BP11 for OIM 10g documentation:
9649346 A user could approve or update the user's own request. This feature could not be disabled. From this release onward, this feature can be enabled or disabled depending on your requirement. See Section 3.10, "Using the XL.AllowBeneficiaryToApprove System Property" for information about implementing the fix for this item.>
There is also this in BP11:
9271449 Requesters could reassign approval tasks to themselves. See Section 3.9, "Using the XL.RequesterCanBeApprover System Property" for information about implementing the fix for this item.>
System configuration variables in 10g are in the design console. In 11g, they are in the web console.

How do I activate my iphone when the previous owner can't remember their information to take it off their account?

Send the previous owner this link and tell them to reset the information. If they will not or cannot do so, the iPhone is useless to you.

  • Can I configure cluster and DAG on exchange 2013 Stander edition

    Dears,
I have plan to make High availability on (exchange 2013 cluster), with M.S Hyper -V 2012,
is possible to do that with Exchange 2013 Stander edition or not ?
    Thansk in advanced,

    Hi,
DAGs are available in both Exchange 2013 Standard and Exchange 2013 Enterprise. In addition, a DAG can contain a mix of servers running Exchange 2013 Standard and Exchange 2013 Enterprise.
Each member of the DAG must also be running the same operating system. Exchange 2013 is supported on the Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2 operating systems. All members of a specific DAG must run the same operating
system. Windows Server 2012 R2 is supported only for DAG members that are running Exchange 2013 Service Pack 1 or later.

  • Exchange 2013 Dynamic Distribution Groups in Lync 2013

Working on a new Exchange 2013 Lync 2013 environment.    I'm having trouble getting Dynamic Distribution groups that exist in Exchange to populate in to the Lync Address book.  Currently If I create a normal Distribution list in Exchange,
it populates in to Lync as I would expect and can be searched and added to a users Contact list.  But for whatever reason the Dynamic distribution groups do not show at all in Lync.  They do show properly in the Exchange & Outlook Client GAL.
And I can use them to send email to recipients.  I'm stumped and can;t find any documentation that addresses if it is by design or if I have missed something.

By design it won't work, here is documentation.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398577.aspx
Lync Server 2013 uses the Distribution List Expansion Protocol (DLX) to expand distribution lists. This protocol also specifies the web service method that is used to get the membership of a distribution list. Microsoft Exchange Server supports dynamic groups
that do not have members statically assigned to them. Instead, they store queries that are evaluated when the group is expanded. DLX does not support dynamic distribution lists.

  • Question about adding Distribution Groups to Lync 2013 clients

    Hello Everybody,
Hopefully somebody can assist me with this issue. I created a Universal Distribution Group within our domain which consists of about 75 people. I logged onto the lync server and ran Update-CsAddressBook waited for it to complete and then
followed Terence Luk guide to force the lync 2013 client update http://terenceluk.blogspot.com/2013/02/forcing-lync-2013-client-to-download.html However
even after the update has completed I am unable to locate this group in the lync client any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Please type the complete sip address to search it.
If the issue persists, please remove lync profile and sign in again.

  • How to create a security group to manage a Distribution list in exchange 2013

    Hi folks,
We have AD synced with Online Exchange 2013. Dirsync is installed on AD. We would like to create a security group for a Distribution list(for instance: distribution list name is [email protected] and it is managed via a security group named "abc" ).
How can this be achieved? I do see an option under Online Exchange console using browser-> Groups to create a new security group but it doesn't allow me to add the group created in AD-instead it ask us to create a new one. If we create a new one in Exchange
online console- will it publish to our local AD?

    Hi TR,
    Thank you for your question.
Are there any errors when we could not add group which is in local AD.
When we could not add group which was created In AD, there are following options we could check:
If current user who logon Exchange server has enough permission to add it
The connection between Exchange server and AD
If we create a new DG in Exchange online, it will be published to local AD.
We could run the following command to create DG for abc.com:
New-DistributionGroup -Name "abc" -Alias abc -Type "Security" -MemberJoinRestriction open
We could refer to the following link to learn more about distribution group:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124513%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

  • Add exchange distribution groups to lync 2013

    Hi,
Does anybody kows how to push directly exchange email distribtution list in to lync2013.  ( only selected list that contains country wise employee )
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bhautik Shah

    Hi,
You can add Exchange email distribution list into Lync 2013 Contact Card as Tab of “Membership”.
If Lync server have integration with Exchange server, you can change the value of TurnOffMemberOfTab to “0” with the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\common\contactcard if you use Outlook 2010.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\common\contactcard if you use Outlook 2013.
You can refer to the link below, it is for Lync server 2010 but similar for Lync server 2013:

now when going to setup outlook 2013 its saying
"An Encrypted connection to your mail server   not available "
and its not configuring anyway please help..

    Hi,
Firstly, I’d like to explain, in Exchange 2013, all Outlook use Outlook Anywhere connect to Exchange server. Autodiscover service just help to get all information that Outlook client needs.
Thus, for the failure of configuring account, I recommend you the following troubleshooting:
    1. Try to manually configure the account: please note the server name option should be filled with the user mailbox GUID:
    [email protected]
To confirm it, you can run : get-mailbox name |fl exchangeGUID
    2. Check if all users cannot be added in all Outlook clients.
    3. Check the Outlook Anywhere configuration and certificate:
    Get-outlookanywhere |fl
    Get-exchangecertificate |fl
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
    Thanks,
    Angela Shi

  • OWA receives mail long before Outlook (Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2010 and 2013)

I recently upgraded my Exchange environment to Exchange 2013 SP1. The Outlook users are now experiencing a delay when receiving email. When they do arrive they appear in batches, often 20-45 minutes after they were sent, from a mailbox on the same server.
Additionally, the mail appears instantly when you monitor the inbox using OWA. The users are experiencing this on both Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients configured in both cached and non-cached modes. This appears to be a problem with Outlook connecting to Exchange.
Any suggestion about how to correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
From your description, when users use OWA, they can receive emails normally. But if they use Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013, there is a delay in receiving emails.
I recommend you use the Outlook safe mode to determine whether the problem is caused by add-ins. Also, please make sure users have installed the Outlook latest Service Pack.
If the issue persist, please create a new profile and check the result.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can no longer log into ECP on Exchange 2013

I am no longer able to log into my Exchange 2013 SP1 ECP site.   Here are a few items to consider:
Installed replacement UC on 5/7/14.  Configured services POP, IMAP, SMTP, IIS. Removed IIS from existing UC which still had 6 days of life.  Both certs identical.  I did no further changes for this new cert other than install it through ECP.
"Old" cert died 5/13/14 @ 8a.  New cert took over without any problems.
Continued to use ECP through close of business 5/14/14.  Late on 5/14/14 I attempted to log into ECP remotely thru a VPN to migrate users from our Exch 2007 server.  Could not access ECP.
When I attempt to access ECP, I enter <domain>\<username> and password.  When I hit "enter" or "sign in", the page flashes and the password field is empty.
I am still able to log into OWA
I cannot log into ECP using the server name, localhost or cert name.
Currently using default settings of FBA and Basic authentication
UC is correctly bound to both front and backend of IIS (443, 444)
Everything else is working correctly for the Exchange site.  I have been continuing my migrations through Powershell.  I just can't log into ECP.
I created a new Exchange Admin user only to find I still could not log into ECP.
Short Version:  I was able to login and then, after a four hour stretch, I was not able to login.  No errors on the web page or Event logs.  Exchange is routing mail correctly.
I have scoured the web for that past couple of days looking for a solution but the issues I find are throwing up a web page with an error of some sort.  Since I'm not experiencing that issue, I'm a bit stumped.  I'm no expert, but I'm not a novice.
Since 2013 is a new rebuild, I thought it best to ask for a little assistance.  Any advice/assistance would be appreciated.

You might consider rebuilding the ECP virtual directory:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff629372.aspx
With the EMS, procedure should be the same for Exchange 2010 and 2013.
Since you state that everything else is working, other virtual directories included (OWA for ex.), it's most likely something with the ECP virtual directory.
But even before that, I would try to look at the (rather cryptic) IIS logs and see if you cannot find any useful information there:

There were some ideas in this thread but i think you may have seen it already?

I have tried below all commands in Exchange power shell, but still users receives the same error message when trying to send on behalf of distribution list. Please help

Keep in mind if you ran both the commands serialially, you would've overwritten the first one with the second one. Did you test sending from the xxxuser or a user in the SOperations group and how long has it been since you granted the permissions then testing

  • I can't sync up to Microsoft Outlook Exchange

How do I sync up to Exchange ?  It worked with Outlook but can't get it to work now that I am using Exchange with my outlook calendar. I must be missing a step.

OK, so when you sync with Desktop Manager your Outlook appointments aren't synching to your BlackBerry? Do you have multiple email accounts on the device?
On the BlackBerry go into Options | Advanced Options | Default Services. Make sure the Calendar[CiCAL] is set to your work account.  Afterwards try synching again. If that doesn't work, try going into the Desktop Manager's Synchronization section and hit the button to reset the synchronization. Then try setting up your sync options again and trying to sync

  • Outlook/Exchange 2013 Delayed Delivery of emails

We're currently migrating from Exchange 2010 to 2013 and a few of our users are saying the "Delayed Delivery" option in Outlook is not working as it used to.
They are claiming that they were able to set a time for delivery, close Outlook, and the email would be sent at the right time. Right now, emails are sitting in the Outbox until the specified time and then sending; Outlook must be open.
However, everything I can find on the subject says that's how it has been since Ex2007. Some say if the user is Online mode instead of Cached, it will work, but these users were always in Cached Mode.
    Does this sound correct?

    Hi,
Please make sure that Outlook Anywhere is enabled on Exchange server 2013 at first.
What's more, please check if you can log via OWA. If yes, the issue is related to your Outlook. If no, I recommend you use Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer tool to test Outlook Anywhere connectivity. For your convenience:

    Hope it helps.
