P'9981 PORSCHE DESIGN TOUCHSCREEN MALFUNCTIONING

Hello, My mobile has continuous problems of touchscreen malfunctioning.
When i remove the battery and assemble again, touch screen starts working for 30 minutes or 1 hour, but then it stops working, can you please advise of how do i return it for repair or replacement

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
What you describe could be software or hardware caused. But, since you have asked only about formal support for repair or replacement, then you need to review your original device purchase contract documents...those should contain whatever specific warranty/support methodologies apply to you. If you don't have those documents, then contact the seller from whom you bought it for advice and assistance. Warranty and support methods vary based on the specific terms of each individual purchase, so there is no way for anyone here to know that answer as it applies specifically to you.
Good luck!

  • Thinkpad Yoga - Touchscreen malfunctioning - Random clicks in vertical line

Hi.  I just received my Thinkpad Yoga today (yay!) however already there seems to be what I can only assume is a fault.  Now and again, and now for a prolonged period (>1 hour) the touchscreen seems to keep registering clicks arranged relatively randomly, but within a thin narrow vertical band near the centre of the screen.
Hovering the stylus near the screen prevents the clicks occurring though, and so using the stylus I've managed to finally get into Device Manager and disable the touchscreen HID
I've tried looking for driver updates etc to no avail.  My laptop is currently turned off for a while, and I'll see if it's resolved once I turn it back on again.
Has anyone else had this issue, or has anyone got any suggestions?  I'll have to give Lenovo a call in the morning I expect, as this just isn't right!

This now seems to be resolved, or at least seems to have stopped.  Potentially was related to some DNS server software somehow (though no idea how!)

  • Porsche Design 9981 Not Charging or Booting

I have a Porsche Design 9981 and I put into charge last night the charger seems to be working but the phone is not charging what so ever I have attached via USB cable to a mac and still nothing have taken battery out and left for 15 mins and still nothing any advice the unit is like 30 days old

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

  • La Cie Porsche Design External Hard Drive no longer working with Time Machine since update to Yosemite.

My La Cie Porsche Design External Hard Drive USB 3.0 is no longer working with Time Machine.  Is Yosemite the cause?  How do I fix?

Can you see the drive in Disk Utility? If so, try selecting it and using the Mount button in the top menu. You can also run repair disk and repair permissions.

  • I cannot connect my external hard drives (1 WD My Passport and 1 LaCie Porsche Design). The drives were connected and worked perfect, the WD is used as a Time Capsule, the LaCie is formatted as exFAT and used for miscellaneous. They are both USB 3.0

I cannot connect my external hard drives any longer. I have one WD "My Passport" used as a Time Capsule and one LaCie Porsche Design used for all different kind of data, formatted in exFAT. They worked fine, connected direct or through an additional USB hub or also attached to a Dell monitor. The Lacie helds my iTunes Library and the iPhoto library.
After I moved the iTunes library to the external drive, from time to time the drive went into a never ending loop and I had to shut down the laptop (MacBook Air).
The last time starting again the drives were not recognized any longer. I tried to connect them to another MacBook, which didn't work.
Starting with Windows 7, the WD is also not recognized at all (perhaps because of time capsule format?) and the LaCie gives an error.
Could anybody tell me if there is a chance to get them alive again? When I connect them now, they start to heat up quite fast without anything else happening.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Just want to clarify, have you checked to make sure the cords are not damaged  (going from hard drive to computer and or any power source )?
You have also check to make sure that usb ports are working correctly?
If you have checked these things it may be that the external drives have failed.
I would google the error message from the LaCie drive before I do anything.
There are several ways that I know of,  one is to put the hard drive in the freezer for a while (make sure you wrap it air tight) if this works it is not a permenint fix. You might be able to transfer information to another source.
The other method is to plug the hard drive into a hard drive connector a product like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817707192
to do this you would have to remove the hard drive from its enclosure and still this is not a guarantee it will work.
The finally way I know is using a recovery service. This can be rather expensive, and  there are no guarantees

  • I have installed a lacie porsche design 1tb external hard drive but how do I move things onto it so my mac speeds up

Hi Can anyone help? My Imac (about late 2008) was running very slow and I realised I had very little memory left on it so I was advised by the online chat buddy at Apple to buy an external hard drive. I have bought a lacie porsche design 1tb external hard drive which is great but how do I transfer things on to it so my computer works faster. I woudl imagine the buggest files I have are both photos and music (all bought form itunes).
Any help would be very much appreciated?
    Thanks

How much free drive space is there? Right click on the Macintosh HD folder (or however you may have renamed it) and select Get Info.
The OS needs around 10 GB for its operation, but not all of that room is necessarily always needed. Depending on how close you get to the edge, creating more free space won't necessarily do anything to speed things up. It can certainy happen, but it's mostly a myth that low drive free space is a cause of slowdowns. This applies especially to zombie suggestions you may often see here to clear a certain minimum percentage of the drive out.
My recommendation would be to keep 10 GB free, plus room for anticipated expansion of your own files. So a ballpark might be at around 20-25 GB, but your mileage may vary, depending on how you use the computer.
If you have at least 10 GB free, then I'd say low drive space isn't causing your performance issue. Of course, moving things out isn't necessarily a bad idea either, if it's really needed--but you do realize that whatever you move out to an external drive will need to be backed up as well.
First backup everything, as this may be a symptom of a failing hard drive. This won't exhaust all the possibilities for the causes of the slow downs, but here are some things to start with: Open Disk Utility and select the drive, not the startup volume. What does it say for SMART Status, verified or not? You can better check to health of the drive with the demo of SMART Utility.
Next, open Activity Monitor. It's in the Applications folder inside the Utilities sub-folder of the main Hard Drive folder ("Macintosh HD", unless you have renamed it.) Go to the System Memory tab and take a screenshot of the bottom section only. (Screenshot is Cmd-Shift-4.) To insert it into your post use the camera icon above. Being low on RAM/memory can cause these kinds of symptoms. Like this:
In addition, see if there's any process or application consuming an inordinate amount of CPU. How much CPU is idle?

  • Porsche Design External Hard Drive for Time Machine back-up

This is what I am looking to buy for my back up: http://www.amazon.com/LaCie-Porsche-Design-External-9000296/dp/B008SA69L8/ref=sr _1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1393398362&sr=1-10&keywords=porsche+design.
But this is not available on online Apple Store. Only "desktop drives" are available. What is the difference between "desktop drive" and "external drive?"
Also, how do these Porsche Design hard drives rank in terms of reliability and longevity?
Do I need to install LaCie software to use this hard drive for back-up? Or is it possible to directly use Time Machine to use this hard drive for back-up?
Lastly, how does password protection work? Does the LaCie software have to be installed to take advantage of this?

How about 3.5" Seagate drives? Are they any better in terms of quality?
Currently the promotional price for 3.0 TB Porsche Design "external drive" is $129 (normally $169). Is this a good deal? And the 3 TB "desktop drive" is $153. Why would they sell thr same product under 2 different names and with different prices? What does "external drive" offer for $16 more? As far I know, they look the same...
    How about 3.5" Seagate drives?
    Absolutely not, no.
All HD can and do crash and fail, its just statistical sampling in total (see graph above)
If you want the most reliable 3.5" HD, get a 2TB Toshiba, which is actually made by Hitachi  (confused yet?)
Hitachi sold their 3.5" division to Toshiba (forced to actually), so a Toshiba 3.5" is really a very well built reliable Hitachi 3.5"
On sale, 2TB Toshiba 3.5" (really Hitachi made)  only $88

There is actually a non-commercial HD more reliable than this,  which is the WD "black" drives, the server grade drives, but theyre not consumer grade
theyre very expensive, and made for server farms.
    here:
    http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Cache-Desktop-WD2003FZEX/dp/B00FJRS628/ref =sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1393443945&sr=8-2&keywords=wd+black
As said no such thing as Porsche, its  Seagate .  Porsche is just the name on the enclosure.
Why sell under 2 diff. names?   Actually they do it under 5 DIFFERENT NAMES ,  Hitachi does the same, so does WD
As I said, there are only 4 HD makers on earth.    The many names etc is to fill up shelf space with diff. names such as Porsche , LaCie etc etc.
Id avoid most of the 3TB and certainly the 4TB drives for at least maybe another half year or so.
Large external hard drives are great! Large external hard drives are horrible
It is a common premise that people are overjoyed at the dropping prices per terabyte on external hard drives, and the first thing that enters most peoples minds is "great, I can put all my stuff on one drive,... all of it!" However considerations need to be made in creating a giant single choke point for not mere data loss, but seriously large data loss. If there is at the very least yet another redundant copy, this is fine, otherwise do not consider it whatsoever. Some 3TB and 4TB drives of all mfg. have, at the time of this writing, reliability concerns currently and best recommendation is staying at 2TB drives or less.
Advantages and disadvantages of larger 3TB and 4TB external drives must be weighed
Hard Drive Warning (all makes and models)
Ironically but logical, new hard drives are far more fragile than one that has been working for several months or a couple years. So beware in your thinking that a new hard drive translates into “extremely reliable”!
Hard drives suffer from high rates of what has been termed "infant mortality". Essentially this means new drives have their highest likelihood of failing in the first few months of usage. This is because of very minor manufacturing defects or HD platter balancing, or head and armature geometry being less than perfect; and this is not immediately obvious and can quickly manifest itself once the drive is put to work.
Hard drives that survive the first few months of use without failing are likely to remain healthy for a number of years.
Generally HD are highly prone to death or corruption for a few months, then work fine for a few years, then spike in mortality starting at 3-4 years and certainly should be considered end-of-life at 5-7+ years even if still working well. Drives written to once and stored away have the highest risk of data corruption due to not being read/written to on a regular basis. Rotate older working HD into low-risk use.
The implication of this is that you should not trust a new hard drive completely (really never completely!) until it has been working perfectly for several months.
Given the second law of thermodynamics, any and all current mfg. HD will, under perfect storage conditions tend themselves to depolarization and a point will be reached, even if the HD mechanism is perfect, that the ferromagnetic read/write surface of the platter inside the HD will entropy to the point of no viable return for data extraction. HD life varies, but barring mechanical failure, 3-8 years typically.
    Hard drive failure and handling
The air cushion of air between the platter surface and the head is microscopic, as small as 3 nanometers, meaning bumps, jarring while in operation can cause head crash, scraping off magnetic particles causing internal havoc to the write surface and throwing particles thru the hard drive.
Hard drives are fragile in general, regardless, ... in specific while running hard drives are extremely fragile.
PDF: Bare hard drive handling generic instructions
    hard drive moving parts
Some of the common reasons for hard drives to fail:
Infant mortality (due to mfg. defect / build tolerances)
    Bad parking   (head impact)
Sudden impact   (hard drive jarred during operation, heads can bounce)
Electrical surge   (fries the controller board, possibly also causing heads to write the wrong data)
Bearing / Motor failure   (spindle bearings or motors wear during any and all use, eventually leading to HD failure)
Board failure   (controller board failure on bottom of HD)
Bad Sectors   (magnetic areas of the platter may become faulty)
    General hard drive failure

  • Seagate Back Up Plus 3tb USB3 or the LaCie - Porsche Design 3tb USB3

    Hello All,
I have just ordered my refurbished 21.5 iMac and iPad 2.  I am very excited to be making the switch from PC to Mac after 25 years on PCs. I will be using it for hobbyist photography work and homeschooling our 2 daughters.  I am intrigued by so many of the cool things on the Macs… 1 in particular is Time Machine and that is where my 3 part question comes in… sorry if it is a reposted question… I could not find it.
I am looking at either the Seagate Back Up Plus 3tb USB3 or the LaCie - Porsche Design 3tb USB3.  There is a $30US premium for the LaCie but it looks great!  How is the quality of the LaCie compared to the Seagate?  The enclosure is aluminum but is the drive as good as Seagate?  I can maybe justify the $30US premium for the aluminum chassis but I want at least the same quality on the electronics.
I need to copy my jpg and RAW files from my PC to the iMac and then use the same drive for my time machine.  Am I correct in assuming I will need to re-format the drive to HFS+ after I transfer my PC files to the iMac in NTFS?
I believe the answer to this next question is yes but since I am on a roll… should I keep the external HDD (either Seagate or LaCie) plugged in (power) and connected (USB3) all the time or just the time I am working on the iMac?
I sincerely appreciate any guidance you can give this newbie.  Cost/budget weighs in here too otherwise I would be looking at a Time Capsule.
    Regards,
    Joseph

If you are looking at LaCie drives, here's the ones to look at.

  • My new mini won't recognize an external drive (LaCie 1TB  porsche design)....any ides why?

Have a new Mac Mini, using an external drive but I can't get it to show up in finder. It's a Lacie 1TB Porsche design HDD, using a USB connection directly into the mini. I tried it at first by connecting to an open usb on my cinema display......no good. Also no good when connected directly into the mini. Any help would be appreciated!

    Three questions.
    1. Have you got Finder > Preferences set to show external disks?
    2. Does it show/mount in Disk Utility (and if so have you verified it there)?
    3. What format is it?

LaCie doesnt make ANYTHING.  It contains a Seagate 3.5" 5400RPM HD.
Check the HD on another computer, if nothing, your SATA bridge is fried, or the HD (very unlikely since its a Seagate inside)
Youd have to crack open the HD, remove the SATA bridge cart thats plugged into the HD and put the HD into an enclosure or a HD dock to get the data
those external HD use a 50 cent SATA bridge famous for failing.  The curse of all the good HD externals is the junk 3rd party SATA bridges attached to them that crash and burn.

  • Hard drive comparison: LaCie Porsche Design P'9230 vs P'9233

I'm planning on getting a new MacBook Air soon and would like to get a new backup drive at the same time. I'm considering a LaCie Porsche Design drive and am a little confused by the difference between two models. According to the LaCie site, the P'9233, item #9000385, 4TB is "Designed for Mac" and Time Machine compatible. And the P'9230, item #9000384, 4TB is Mac OS X compatible, but the page does not indicate if it is Time Machine compatible. Is there any reason why it wouldn't be? What exactly is the difference between these two drives?
I've emailed this question to LaCie and am waiting for their reply. In the meantime I figured I'd check here to see if anyone has any personal insight.

licoricepizza wrote:"Designed for Mac" and Time Machine compatible.
No such thing, thats just fluff and nonsense on the box / advertising.   You can buy any HD for use with Time Machine (however avoid WD consumer grade HD for quality reasons).
Lacie does NOT make HD, its a Seagate inside there.
there are only 4 HD mfg. on earth.   Toshiba, Hitachi, Seagate, WD
Do NOT buy 4TB drives, they're still currently 'too" unreliable.
    Make it 3TB max
ALL HD are Mac compatible, anyone who says otherwise is lying to you.  All HD are just bricks, you can format them for PC or Mac etc.
Any HD in a store that says "PC HD", or "Mac HD", thats just advertising nonsense and fluff, you can format any of them for anything.

Hitachi is the winner in hard drive reliability survey:
Hitachi manufacturers the safest and most reliable hard drives, according to the Storelab study. Never buy just ONE ext. HD,      that's always a recipe for disaster.
    Data redundancy begins at...
    1. All data on the computer is just that, your data.
    2. All data on the first external HD is your backup.
    3. Only the second external HD is your first safe data redundancy.
Protected data redundancy begins at the second external copy due to:
    1. It not being connected. Any drive connected, backup or otherwise, is not to be considered a safe data redundancy.
    2. Being the backup failsafe to the first external HD, not to the data on the computer which never should be counted in terms of data protection as "a copy".
    3. External drives will invariably fail, and since most people falsely believe their external HD is their "safety", this error of perspective must be countered by yet another external copy of ones data.
Ones vital data must always be considered wholly independent and irrelevant of any data on the computer itself. Failure to look at one data in this matter is a failure which often can and does culminate in data loss.
Always presume correctly that your data is priceless and takes a very long time to create and often is irreplaceable. Always presume accurately that hard drives are extremely cheap, and you have no excuse not to have multiple redundant copies of your data copied on hard drives and squirreled away several places, lockboxes, safes, fireboxes, offsite and otherwise.
Hard drives aren't prone to failure…hard drives are guaranteed to fail (the very same is true of SSD). Hard drives dont die when aged, hard drives die at any age, and peak in death when young and slowly increase in risk as they age.
Never practice at any time for any reason the false premise and unreal sense of security in thinking your data is safe on any single external hard drive. This is never the case and has proven to be the single most common horrible tragedy of data loss that exists.
Many 100s of millions of hours of lost work and data are lost each year due to this single common false security. This is an unnatural disaster that can avoid by making all data redundant and then redundant again. If you let a $60 additional redundant hard drive and 3 hours of copying stand between you and years of work, then you've made a fundamental mistake countless 1000s of people each year have come to regret.
Many countless people think they're safe and doing well having a single external backup of their vital data they worked months, years, and sometimes decades on. Nothing could be further from the truth. Never let yourself be in situation of having a single external copy of your precious data.

  • LaCie 500g Porsche design P'9221 portable external hard drive

    Hi,
Is this compatible with Lion?  In the Apple store under the 'Compatibility' section for this product it says OS X v10.5 and OS X v10.6, but nothing about v10.7?  I'm baffled as it says this is designed especially for Mac computers.   Furthermore I never thought compatibility would be an issue where storage drives were concerned, so I'm a bit confused as to which one to buy now.  Can anyone enlighten me, please?

It really isn't an issue... sort of. A drive is a drive and will work with either PC or Mac, but they will come formatted for one or the other. You can easily change format on a drive though. Also, many drives are now coming with backup software that will be specific for mac or PC.
As for the Porsche drive, you won't have a problem with it.
