P E 9, computer turns off during export

I was able to export 1 short clip, but tried creating a
series of clips into a movie and when I try to export to
the computer file for playback, or burn it to DVD, it gets to 7% then the computer shuts off. There should be enough memory on my computer, 2g available. Any ideas??
Thanks

I think that you are confusing Memory with hard disc (HDD) space.
Memory, in the purest sense, is the installed RAM. This is usually 1, 2, 3,4, 8, 12, 24 or 32GB. With a 32-bit Operating System (OS), there is no need to have more than 4GB installed, as only ~ 3GB can be accessed and used by the OS and programs. With a 64-bit OS, say Win7 - 64-bit, much more can be accessed and used. Depending on the type of RAM, you will see amounts ranging from 8GB to 32GB.
Now, the hard disc is the mechanical (or solid state - SSD) device, where the OS, programs and files are stored. These range in size from about 32GB, up to about 2TB, and many computers have several. For video editing, it is a good suggestion to have at least two physical HDD's, so that the processing load can be split between the two devices, and the OS and programs are not waiting for a single device to do a lot of reading and writing. Especially for video-editing, one needs quite a bit of defragmented, free space, as video files are large to begin with, and programs, like PrE create large working files.
Last, there is the OS's Virtual Memory, seen as the Page File. This is written to and read from the HDD. The OS uses this when the amount of RAM is used up, which on a 32-bit OS will be pretty quickly. The Page File functions like RAM, but because it is on a HDD (usually mechanical), will be much slower. The Page File can either be dynamically managed (default), so that it grows and shrinks, as the OS anticipates the need, or it can be statically managed, where the user sets a size and location, and the Page File is created at bootup. I recommend a statically managed Page File for video editing, as this does several things: If one does this when the HDD is new, and fairly clean, the OS will have plenty of defragmented space to choose from, and it will place the Page File as close to the inside of the HDD, as it can. As one fills up the HDD, those programs and files will be written beyond that static Page File, out towards the slower parts of the HDD. To dynamically manage the Page File, the OS needs to anticipate potential usage, and as a video editor can require more Page File, than most other programs, can guess wrong, or at least slowly. Last, to dynamically manage the Page File, the OS requires a fair amount of processing power from the CPU, and just this task can slow things down.
When on says "memory," they can be talking about any, or all of these, but first, "memory" is considered the RAM. For the HDD, this is most often referred to as "hard drive space." Virtual Memory is just what it sounds like - it functions like RAM, but is located on the HDD.
Hope that helps.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • While syncing last time the computer turned off during the process and now when I try to get ont oitunes the phone is read only as a camera device and I cant  sync my phone.  I have tried re installing itunes and have turned every thing off and on. Help!!

While syncing my Iphone the computer turned off and now Itunes doesnt read the connection. A message appears that I have plugged in my camera on my pc.I have gone through turning every thing off and on and re installing Itunes but still no luck. Any suggestions?

If iTunes cannot see your iPhone.
First, try soft-resetting your iPhone.  Press and hold sleep/wake and home button, ignore the slide bar - keep pressing.
When you see the Apple logon, let go.  When the phone has restarted, plug into PC. Will iTunes see iPhone now?
If not, you'll have to do a DFU restore - please note that this will wipe everything on your iPhone. If you have a recent backup (iTunes does this by default), then you're in luck and you can restore everything back.
If not, then...hmm well... Oh bum.  Maybe you have an iCloud backup? I haven't tried this so I can't comment.

  • Computer turned off during download

Help.  I was downloading a new set of images and the cord pulled out of the wall and shut the computer off. Next said my catalog was corrupt and needed to be repaired.  Then said it couldn't be repaired. What exactly does this mean?  Have I lost all of the work that was in lightroom and must pull out a backup from my last backup or is there any way to retrieve?
If I need to access a backup what exactly do I need to do with it to get everything back in Lightroom?

Search your computer for *.lrcat.The one you want will be in a folder that also contains a folder called <something>profiles.lrdata. The <something>.lrcat is your catalogue.
If LR has been doing backups for you there will be a series of folders with names of the form "yyyy-mm-dd nnnn" where nnnn is some four-digit number. The one with the latest date is the one you want, and it will contain an exact copy of your catalogue named <something>.lrcat. Drag its icon from where it lives to the folder that contains your broken catalogue after renaming your broken catalogue. Then open Lightroom.

  • Please help - computer turns off randomly

I purchased my computer in the US in september - right before I moved to London. Mid november it died. The computer would turn on and chime, but the screen was dead. I took it to a 3rd party repair (which apple phone tech support insisted was just as good as the apple store) and they replaced the logic board. It all seemed fine until I took it home and used ichat video with my family - the computer turned off. It didn't shut down, just seemed to pause and go dead. I could reboot it and it had no recollection of incorrect shutdown with the exception of firefox. (I dont know if this is important, but every time it does this and i reboot, the sound resets to mute) I started to notice that the computer does this any time I use video functions for an extended period of time (or at least 20 minutes). I have brought it to the apple store twice, where they have repaired it twice. I have gone through at least one more logic board, a heat sink, something to do with the power adapter, as well as the battery. They cannot find anything wrong - 3 repairs later its still shutting down so I went to apple again. Unwilling to give up my computer YET again, they recommended I archive and install. I have now done that - now my computer is crawling - still crashing - and some programs decide to open up occasionally or start and stop without a crash notice. I tried to run disk utility and it froze. On top of this all, they recommended I download xslimmer to convert old power pc programs to the current intel format I'm running on my new macbook - this seems to have complicated things more. I asked them to replace the computer during my last genius bar visit, i was told that because my computer was purchased in the states they cannot replace it, and I will not be heading back to the states soon enough to have it replaced there. So anyone with any insight, please help! I bought a new computer so i wouldn't have to deal with these problems and its turning out to be more of a headache than my old powerbook g4.

I also forgot to mention that every 45-60 seconds there are two faint tick sounds coming from inside the computer.

  • Iphone turned off during factory reset

Apologies if this has been raised a million times before, i have tried to search for an answer..
As the title says my phone turned off during a factory reset as the battery was obviously low. probably happened 1-2 minutes into it actually.
Now it wont get past the apple logo screen. I have tried to reset the phone using the home + power key but nothing happens. it turns off then when i turn it back on it goes back to the apple logo screen, then will turn off.
Ive plugged the phone into my laptop and that wont read it either.
I hope i havent ruined the phone by it turning off during factory resetting ? Can anyone suggest anything to fix this problem ?
    thanks

See if you force the phone into recovery mode:
Turn off your phone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone to turn off. If you cannot turn off your phone using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When your phone turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. After restoring from backup, you must sync to restore your iTunes content.

  • Computer powering off during start up- started after trying to repair HD

I was having trouble with a program on my laptop. I ran disk utilities and verified permissions and disk. Multiple permission issues were found and unable to be fixed. Next I went to verify disk and it was also unable to be repaired. I next attempted disk utilities from my leopard start up disk and got the same results. I was going to reboot from the HD and back up some things before I did anything else. (I wasn't having any issues with any other than that one program) During the reboot process it got as far as the gray screen, apple logo and wheel before the computer turned off. This process was repeated even after removing the start up disk. I have gone in to single user mode and typed this at the prompt fsck_hfs -r /dev/disk0s2 the last line then reads ** the volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired. Not sure what I should do now?
    Thanks

Verifying does little. You need to Repair Disk. So boot from your OS installer disk, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk. If DU cannot repair the disk then you will need a stronger disk repair utility like DiskWarrior.

  • My Macbook Pro turns off during start-up

About a week ago I started up my mackbook pro and it turned off after about 2 second after the start-up tone... this happened repeatedly. I found by holding down the "ECS" or "SHIFT" on start-up it boots up but then the "Are you sure you want to shut down this computer" window appears repeatedly, even when I click cancel. If I don't click canel within about 2 seconds, the computer turns off anyway.
I left it for a day or two and then tried starting it up again... it started up fine...??? I updated the OS from Lion to Mavericks as I needed the new version of Keynote.
Another day or two later... it was tuning itself off again on startup and once booted...???
Now I am here online trying to find some answers and have reset the PRAM... its still turning off. I left it for about 5 mins while typing this discussion in and it booted OK again and is still running.
    Any suggestions?

    danyog1,
if it works for you in Safe mode, then that suggests that something that runs at startup in normal mode could be the problem. Download and install EtreCheck, and please open your own discussion and include in your initial post there the output from a run of EtreCheck.

While downloading the latest iTunes version, my computer turned off. When I opened iTunes, it says that "The file "iTunes Library.itl"  cannot be read  because it was created by a newer version of iTunes" Help please

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

When I plug the Lacie external disk to my Macbook pro, my computer turns off. Whats wrong?

Something certainly is wrong.  Do not plug the external HHD in the MBP.  Male an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and bring the Lacie with you.
