P/N 501-5500 processors in an Ultra 2?

I bought a pair of Sun 400 Mhz CPU P/N 501-5500 Celestica 4MB L2 Cache processors which I was lead to believe would be suitable for an Ultra 2, which I have now found may not to be the case.
These processors do not fit into slot 0, however they will fit into slot 1, the machine identifies the processor correctly but stop at the beginning of initializing memory.
Am I wasting my time in trying to get one of these processors to work in an Ultra 2? Secondly could the processors have been test in an Ultra 2 as I was lead to believe?
Thanks
Paul

That CPU was an option for the Ultra AXmp ( telco version of the E450 boards ). The only 400MHz versions of UltraSPARC II supported in an Ultra 2 are 501-5541 and 501-5445. You supplier sold you incorrect parts for your system.

  • Overclocking amd a8 5500 processor

Hello I'm mark I was wondering if I could overclock my amd a8 5500 processor from stock 3.2 ghz to a higher same stability speed like 3.8 or 4.0 ghz is this safe to do so am I able to do this without upgrading my fan or cooling system. My room temperature usually stays around 74 degrees but may go down to 60 in winter. What ghz speed do u recommend overclocking to for an hp pavillion p7 1534 with amd a8 5500?

Your HP p7-1534 Desktop Computer has no options in the BIOS for overclock and therefore doesn't support overclocking. Please see HP Desktop PCs - BIOS Settings for the Jasmine Motherboard for available BIOS settings.

  • Core i7 processors in the Ultra 24?

Does anyone know if Sun plans on coming out with something like an Ultra 24 M2 soon that would have these processors? They have been out for a while now so it would be nice to see these processors in a Sun workstation. Sadly, it seems they abandoned their AMD-line of workstations so we won't be able to get the new "Shanghai" processors on the Ultra 20 M2 so right now we are just limited to using Core 2 Duo/Quad processors. Am I the only one that feels that Sun has put their desktops to the wayside?

I agree that it appears that Sun has ditched its workstations. Mac just announced their new MacPro which uses two of the new core i7 processors. It is limited to 32 GB of RAM rather than 64 and it holds only 4 internal drives standard. Until this came out I was considering a Sun server with Sun Ray, but the workstation set-up would be easier. Would be nice if Sun would put together a real offering in their workstation line-up soon.

  • KT3 Ultra BIOS problem + question

    Hi
after switchin on the CPU Halt command detection. My PC beeps 3 times after shutting down. D-LED says memory problem. When I turn off the PSU and after a while turn it on, everything is OK and PC boots normally. Does anyone know the reason of the beeping??
Question: has somebody tried (somebody very rich to afford buying Barton) Barton (or T-Bred FSB333) processor on KT3 Ultra??
    thx a lot  )

    Hi,
Switching on CPU HALT Command will make your system unstable. That's the message of the beeps.
You should be able to improve this by using a better PSU. Otherwise, there is no reason of using CPU HALT command as there are many software CPU Coolers you can get.

  • Solaris 8 load error

I have an Ultra 10 and can't load Solaris 10 because of an error that the machine won't support the operating system. So I tried to reload Solaris 8 after a format and receive an ata_timeout c0 d0 error and I don't know how to get around this to load the software. Any ideas anyone?

The reason I can't load Solaris 10 is that the
machine is a UltraSPARC I with 168MHz processor. No Ultra 10 has that configuration. Perhaps you meant you had an Ultra 1?
All Ultra 10s have an UltraSPARC IIi of at least 300MHz and are supported by Solaris 10 (provided you have enough RAM).
    So
I tried to reload Solaris 8 and receive a ata_timeout
on c0 d0 and can't get pass this issue. What is the
problem? Thanks in advacneAnd no Ultra 1 has an ATA device... I'm not sure what kind of machine you have.
What is the context for this timeout? Is it immediately after typing 'boot cdrom' and before anything else appears? If so, I'd assume you either had a bad CD drive, a bad media disk, or a bad cable. But I don't know that you'd see 'c0 d0' (or anything like that) until the OS started booting.
Maybe it's complaining about the internal hard drive. If you can boot from the cd, you can run an analysis on the internal hard drive.

  • Upgrades for the 2009 Mac Pro

I have this Mac Pro: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP506  I have the 8 Core with two 2.26 Ghz quad core xeon 5500 processors, 32 gigs of ram, and three of the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB of GDDR3 memory PCI Express 2.0.
    My questions:
    - Can I buy and swap out the 2.93  ghz quad core for each slot without any problems? I assume so, as the same board handles both.
    - Second, Can I put any other graphic cards other than the two mentioned in the technical specs. I am getting choppyness/freezing/etc after mountain lion upgrade. We do lots of video, and we are trying not to just replace this computer.  Any suggestions or tips appreciated. We can know how to physically do all of this.
    - Will the upgrading the processors make a huge difference?
    Thanks!

Unless you are doing rendering and have observed CPU usage flat out on all processors, upgrading the CPUs will do nothing for you. Most Mac Pros are I/O bound. Re-orginizing your disks would do much more for you.
You can use the Apple 5770 (uses one aux cord) or Apple 5870 (uses two aux cords) without going into home-made or aftermarket flashed cards. There are one or two more that have drivers included in 10.8, but not yet officially supported by Apple.

  • Poor performance after altering tables to InnoDB

I have an application using CF MX, IIS, and MySQL 5.0.37
running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
When I originally built the application, access from login to
start page and page to page was very good. But, I started getting
errors because tables were sometimes getting records added or
deleted and sometimes not. I thought the "cftransaction" statements
were protecting my transactions. Then I found out about MyISAM (the
    default) vs InnoDB.
So, using MySQLAdmin, I altered the tables to InnoDB. Now,
the transactions work correctly on commits and rollbacks, but the
performance of the application stinks. It now takes 20 seconds to
    log in.
The first page involves a fairly involved select statement,
but it hasn't changed at all. It just runs very slowly. Updates
    also run slowly.
Is there something else I was supposed to do in addition to
the "alter table" in this environment? The data tables used to be
in /data/saf_data. Now the ibdata file and log files are in /data
and only the ".frm" files are still in saf_data.
I realize I'm asking this question in a CF forum. But, people
here are usually very knowledgable and helpful and I'm desperate.
This is a CF application. Is there anything I need to do for a CF
app to work well with MySQL InnoDB tables? Any configuration or
    location stuff to know about?
    Help, and Thanks!

The programs was ported also in earlier versions 1,5 year ago we use forte 6.2 and the performance was o.k.
Possibly the program design was based on Windows
features that are inappropriate for Unix. So the principal design didn't change, the only thing is, that we switch to the boost libraries, where we use the thread, regex, filesystem and date-time libraries
Have you tried any other Unix-like system? Linux, AIX, HPUX,
etc? If so, how does the performance compare to
Solaris? Not at the moment, because the order is customer driven, but HP and Linux is also an option.
Also consider machine differences. For example, your
old Ultra-80 system at 450Mhz will not keep up with a
modern x86 or x64 system at 3+ GHz. The clock speed
could account for a factor of 6. That was my first thought, but how I have wrote in an earlier post, the performance testcase need the same time on a 6x1GHz (some Sun-Fire-T1000) machine
Also, how much realmemory does the sparc system have? 4 GB! And during the testrun the machine use less than 30% of this memory.
If the program is not multithreaded, the additional
processors on the Ultra-80 won't help. But it is!
If it is multithreaded, the default libthread or libpthread on
Solaris 8 does not give the best performance. You can
link with the alternative lwp-based thread library on
Solaris 8 by adding the link-time option
    -R /usr/lib/lwp (for 32-bit applications)
-R /usr/lib/lwp/64 (for 64-bit applications)The running application use both, the thread and the pthread library can that be a problem? Is it right, that the lwp path include only the normal thread library?
Is there a particular reason why you are using the
obsolete Solaris 8 and the old Sun Studio 10?Because we have customer which do not upgrade? Can we develop on Solaris 10 with SunStudio 11and deploy on 5.8 without risk?

  • Poor performance after server port to SUN

    Hi all,
porting our C++ corba server to SUN was not very successful, because the performance of the SUN version was 15 times bad then the performance on Windows with the same source code and some reference tests.
I have attached our build options and the configuration of our develepment equipment.
We have done this port also on earlier versions and we see also, that the server was slower, but only the factor 1.5 to 2, so I was wondering why I have such a big difference in this release.
What we have changed between the releases was, that we use the boost libraries (V 1.32) and therefore we compile and link now with stlport4 library. We changed also from Forte 6.2U2 to SunStudio 10.
First I thought, that it is the old development equipment, what make the diffrence, but also our newest available machine (SunOS sudecgn0032 5.10 Generic_118833-23 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T1000) show the same runtime performance. Any idea? Are there some tools that can help to analyse, if there is perhaps a structural difficulty?

  • Gaming 9 AC audio question

    Hi!
I didn't understand the audio connections of this board...which is the connection to use the internal DAC?....the brochure said of a Dac at 120db but in windows there is only a simple Realtek device on Sound blaster software...Any help?
Inviato dal mio iPhone utilizzando Tapatalk

not quite understand your question, basically you could play around the sound using the soundblaster software directly which support the 2 different audio chip...
the 120DB is supported by the Cmedia chip == quote from webiste "The heart of Xtreme Audio DAC is powered by a C-Media CM6631A High Definition Audio Processor. Offering ultra-realistic High Definition Audio Playback and Recording at 192 kHz / 32-bit up to 120dB SNR."
...  just try to plug your device in the Front panel Audio as Cmedia is the Audio chip that supports it...
there is also Cmedia Audio controller that should be found in the Control panel

  • 2.18.0004 Driver Scrambles Speaker Orientat

    Has anyone else noticed this
After running audio through my X-Fi Fatalty for a while the speakers will spontaneously reorient themselves. What used to be the center channel now gets recognized as the front left channel, the rear right is muted and barely audible. The workaround is to open the Console Launcher, switch the speaker configuration to, say, 2., and then switch it back. Leave it alone for a while longer and it'll reorient again.
For the record this did not occur on my system with the 2.5.0006 drivers.
I'll give Creative a few points for rolling out improvements to their drivers, but how long ago was Vista released And for how long were the release candidates available. The bugs keep piling up and the fixing progress is slow, slow, slow.
    Here are the system specs...
    Vista Ultimate x64
    X-Fi Fatalty
    Logitech Z-5500 speakers
    EVGA 790i Ultra SLi mobo
    Intel QX9650 CPU
    4Gb Corsair DD3 RAM

These are all good work arounds for a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place.
Anyone in the mood to file a bug report Is there an easy way to do that
    KaRLsM wrote:
Yup, i've experienced the same thing. Also i noticed that it is application-independent, so, if you're watching a video at youtube and the sound "reorients", you can open winamp, for example, and it will play fine. Also if you kill the app that sounds bad and relaunch it again it will play fine again. No need to switch speaker config.
Another thing i noticed is that after playing for some time (actually i've experienced this with both winamp and mass effect), let's say about 3h, the sound will start to cut and sparkle making it very annoying and almost impossible to play (as the game will stutter also).
This happens with a clean install of Vista Ultimate x64, X-Fi Fatality and .8.0004 drivers. The rest of the specs are an Intel Q6600, 4Gb Corsair DDR2 800, ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus, x2 POV 8800GT

  • Kt3 Ultra-aru Processor Speeds?

    Hi There,
I'm running the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E v1.X) with an AMD Athlon XP 2000, I was just wondering what Athlon XP processor speeds this supports upto, and if possible what changes I might need to make to the Bios, Would I need to flash my board with a new Bios or just go into my Bios and change some settings.
Thanks for any help, just trying to get ready for Doom 3 and Halflife 2 if they ever appear
    Cheers,
    Paul.

But there is no guaranty, that a FSB333 AthlonXP will work. The largest CPU that is allowed from MSI is a 2600+ FSB266.
But the chance is pretty high, that a FSB333 Athlon will work, though. It did so on mine KT3 Ultra.

Ok i'm running a msi kt3 ultra aru motherboard with bios version 5.7
looking at the cpu charts i'm slightly confused. What I'm wondering is can I run an athlon 3000 processor on this board? I know its going to raise the bus speed up but I'm running pc2700 ram right now so I dont see that being a problem.
anyone either running a newer processor on this board, or who would know the answer, it would be appreciated....
    thx!

You guys rock. Thanks for the feedback. haven't made the purchase yet, got a friend that manages a compusa thats supposed to be getting me a deal, we'll see I guess....

Is it possible to upgrade Sun Ultra 40 M2 to quad processor configuration
This machine is a dual CPU 3.0Ghz.

    Have a look here:
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5348491&tstart=0
Many users would like to upgrade to quad-core but Sun did not release any information if this is possible with our without an firmware update.

  • Ultra 24 Q9550 processor pricing stupidity

Today I revised some of my quotes with my Sun vendor and found that Sun is really doing some serious price gouging on some on their Q9550 processor:
    Intel tray price: $266.00
    Sun list price: $775.00
Furthermore, I found that the Q6600 and Q9300 are EOL despite Intel happily selling them. Right now you're forced to pay an astronomical price hike if you want a clock higher than 2.33Ghz on an Ultra 24. Anyone from Sun care to explain this?
For reference, you can always go here to check wholesale prices on Intel processors so see if you're getting gouged:

    And here for AMD processors:
