P1102W Laserjet is dead after it is power off then power up

A. 1st question : P1102W is dead after power off then back on.  Below are the steps of what I did :
A1. I bought P1102W on 26Dec2011.  Most updated driver (Win7 32-bit) was then downloaded
A2. I started the installation by clicking the downloaded driver
A3. It installed smoothly, even picked up my Asus wireless router SSID automatically
A4. Eventually, a demo page was printed wirelessly from my notebook PC
A5. Subsequently, printings are also done by iPad2 and iPod Touch, confirming that AirPrint is working
A6. The P1102W is then turned off for 1/2 mins, then turned back on
A7. Both iPad2 and iPod Touch could not find any AirPrint Printer right away
A8. I tried to print a WORD file, but it does not work anymore
B. 2nd question : IP address changed after 2nd notebook had installed the driver :
B1.  Once the previous steps from section A is done, I immedately tried to do the same installation for my 2nd notebook (Win Vista 32-bit.  I also tired with others notebook with Win7 64-bit or MacBook Air).
B2.  Once the installation is done and the demo page is printed.  I found that the IPaddr of the originally setting has been changed from 192.168.1.4 to 169.254.154.2, or sometimes (after 2nd trails) it becomes all zeros!!!!!!!!!!!!
B3.  I did manually assign the IPaddr to be a fixed IPaddr without using DHCP, but it still does not work.
Anyone can help.  Or I should tell my friends stop getting P1102W just for the purpose to get AirPrint for our iPhone/iPad2/IPod Touch??!!

I just bought the printer and I am having the same issue. Please help.

srceen goes gray after the apple goes off then the monitor says no signal.. It been working great for 9 months use it everyday for fcp.. would the video card be bad???

If the video card were bad, you wouldn't get anything to display. The fact that you get the gray screen with the spinning gear means the video card is working.
So, two things I would try, and you can pick the order. The first is to reset the PRAM. You may want to save this for last since it will reset a few of your settings. Nothing major, but can be annoying. The second is to start the system in safe mode by holding down shift while booting.
If safe mode works, then you have some corrupted preference files or some other program is causing problems. If safe mode doesn't work, you can at least see if zapping the PRAM lets you get any further along with the boot process. Only if both of these fail would I start to consider an issue with the video card.

  • New power adapter dead after one charge cycle

    hi guys.....
my power supply went a week or so ago... started to turn on and off then stopped completely...
i bought a new apple A1021 as an exact replacement to the previous...
plugged it in and got amber led then charged through to green and all functionality was as normal... problem sorted.... or so i thought....
came to it the next morning to find no led on.... so i checked fuse and swapped lead etc but no response....
phoned apple store mac docs whose answer was 'ummm i don't really know try resetting the pmu' which i have done but still no luck....
so my questions to you are:
    1. is the new power supply faulty?
    2. is there a problem with something shorting / feeding back into the power supply.... frying it?
    3. is there an internal fault preventing charge / power? (although it did charge once)
    4. a friend said it could be a faulty battery?
i don't know if you have come across this before but any help or suggestions would be greatly appretiated.... thanks

  • Ipod Touch Totally Dead After Failed Update to 4.0 OS

    Hi folks,
There is another discussion with the exact same title but the problem was never resolved. I decided to create a new discussion because I successfully revived my buddies iPod that had the same problem. I know a lot of people probably still have paperweight out-of-warranty iPods lying around, so here goes!
My friend had a 3rd gen 8GB iPod Touch and uses iTunes on Windows XP. He plugged his iPod in one night and iTunes recommended he update to OS4. He was previously running the latest OS3 so he said "why not?!". Along went the update no problem until right before rebooting the iPod at the end. He reported that all of a sudden, the battery charging screen popped up with a fully charged green battery, then instantly changed to a red "dead battery" screen then it shut off entirely. That was it. Dead. Nothing he would do with the buttons gave any sign of life.
1 month later of researching, trying DFU mode and all sorts of attempts - still a dead, attractive paperweight with never a single pixel of light on the screen. He finally gave up and asked me to take a look at it.
I tried charging it overnight with a 110V to USB wall charger (as some people recommended) - no change.
I tried plugging it into a Mac (as some people also suggested) - no change, no signs of life.
Plugging it into a Windows XP machine gave an "Unknown USB device" or "USB device not recognized" error.
Well. I managed to get it into DFU (restore) mode and reinstalled OS4.2 with no problem (but it was not obvious) - now it is working again! A fully revived iPod Touch!
So, here is what I did:
    1. Left "charging" overnight with a wall-charger NOT THE USB PORT OF A PC OR MAC.
    2. Getting the iPod into DFU mode is tricky and a question of precise timing so it seems. The exact sequence that worked for me was: 1. HOLD the power button. 2. HOLD (at the same time) the Home button. 3. After 10 seconds, release the POWER button and continue to HOLD the Home button. Eventually, the PC or Mac should detect a new USB device and automatically install the driver for the DFU recovery mode. Once the iPod is detected in this mode, you can release the Home button. Note that you MUST have iTunes installed in order for the computer to install the driver for the iPod. If you do not have iTunes installed, Windows will still report the device as a "USB Device" and ask for the driver (contrary to the "Unknown USB device" or "USB device not recognized" errors). Once the device is happy in your OS, fire up iTunes and follow the instructions to restore your iPod. Enjoy! I recommend downloading/installing the LATEST ITUNES before recovering your device. Older versions of iTunes may contain the bug that killed your iPod the first time you tried updating.
Notes: 1. According to Apple, holding the 2 buttons down for 10 seconds and releasing both buttons at the same time simply performs a RESET of the iPod. It does not put it into DFU mode. You MUST continue holding the Home button after releasing the power button in order to get it to convert to DFU mode. I think this is where most people are having trouble. Also, it may have been a coincidence of the exact time I held the Home button after releasing the power button. Try holding it for different intervals after releasing the power button (i.e. 1 sec, 2 secs, 3 secs all the way to 10 secs or even more). BE PATIENT and don't give up! Unless your iPod has a real HARDWARE PROBLEM (which if it was working fine before you tried to update it probably does not), you can ALWAYS get it into DFU mode because that part is HARDCODED in a chip in the iPod and cannot be changed or damaged.
When I was playing with the iPod trying to get it in DFU mode, Windows would see it as a Unknown USB Device. Then sometimes it would disappear and come back as an Unknown USB device. This is a GOOD THING. That means that the iPod IS resetting as per Apple's instructions (which means the iPod DOES have some sort of life). After trying 4 or 5 times, I finally got it to disappear and reappear in DFU mode (as a simple "USB Device" because I did not have iTunes installed. After installing the latest iTunes, it installed the correct drivers automatically).
So give it a try and post your results! Good luck!

My friend had a 3rd gen 8GB iPod Touch
Just for clarification so other people don't get confused and this misinformation keeps getting generated, Apple did not sell a 3rd generation 8GB iPod Touch.
So, your friend must have a 2nd generation iPod Touch.
The 3rd generation was only made in the 32GB and the 64GB models.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPodtouchlate2009
The 2nd generation has A1288 stamped on the back
The 3rd generation has A1318 stamped on the back and again, only on the 32GB and 64GB models.
Some software is only designed for the 3rd generation and above so making sure what generation you have can be very important before you possibly buy something your iPod Touch can't use.

  • IPod touch completely dead after attempted update to 3.0

    Cross-posted to "with Windows" forum...
...Not only during update to 3.0, but also during update to 2.2.1 and during a restore attempt 6 weeks ago. All 3 "dead" iPods have been replaced by Apple - I'd like a solution...
I have videoed the update taking place and the iPod dying during it - sadly it is in MOV format (439MB) and I cannot convert to an uploadable version for Youtube... By DEAD, I mean, no power and will not display ANYTHING on the screen. Simply won't power up again.
This is what happens: Download update using iTunes... Extracting software... Backing up iPod... Preparing the iPod for the software update... (iPod shows USB plug and CD - then apple logo...) then the updating progress line appears on iTunes and on touch. Updating iPod software... Verifying updated iPod software... Updating the iPod firmware... White progress line on iPod disappears after a few seconds and screen goes black. Error message displays on iTunes - "The iPod xxxx could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (6)"
iPod is now dead and needs to be replaced,
    1) Has anyone experienced this?
    2) Has anyone SOLVED it?
Maybe related is a problem with some videos that have happened recently (and were the cause of me trying to restore the iPod last time it died) MP4 (or MPV files) play for about 20-30 minutes, then screen goes white, then black, then apple logo appears, then iPod returns to home screen after about 30 seconds. My usual solution to this has been to remove all videos, photos (which are corrupted by this time), audio, and then re-sync back.
I'd appreciate ANY help please. I intend buying an iPhone soon and would like to know that the problem won't occur on that, every time I try to restore.
    Cheers!
    Martin

To begin the discussion, let's throw in a few possibilities:
    1. Is your iPod in the process of being "jail-broken"? If so, I'd avoid the risk and stick with standard Apple firmware. Some hacks end up with dead iPods.
    2. Do you use iTunes for syncing? Only use Apple software for managing your file system.
    3. Are you Windows or Apple? For whatever it's worth, I've only seen this happen with Windows machines.
No solutions here - but maybe some hopeful suggestions.

  • Clear Print Queue HP P1102w LaserJet

After printing to my wireless HP P1102w LaserJet, the print queue does not clear/empty.  So, when I print, again, the printer does not respond because there are queued docs to print, yet.  I can physically delete the queue, but this is cumbersome.  And, I am not the only user of the printer. It took forever to get the proper drivers loaded by using Apple Update.  Finally, the printer prints, whether using wireless or Wi-Fi. But, the document remains in the queue. Any ideas?  Or, is this an HP problem?

I just went through this myself. It is basically as fede says. You need cups installed and running, and hplip installed. Some of the printers require a plugin (like my LaserJet 1018), and that may be why you get the message 'filter failed'. I got it too.
You have to run hp-setup to get the plugin BUT hp-setup won't run properly without a /usr/bin/python symlinked to python2.7 . Either create that symlink or as fede says, if you already have one that points to python3, delete that symlink and create a new one pointing to python2.7, and then run hp-setup. It will run fine and your printer should work.
On my other computer I have Ubuntu 12.10 and I noticed they have /usr/bin/python symlinked to python2.7 as a standard, that's why hp-setup ran correctly on it the first time. When I did a basic install of Arch recently it only installed python2, but there was no symlink of python -> python2.7 included in the package. If you install python3 (also known as python), you get the symlink of python -> python3. It's all a bit confusing, but I think if we only have python2 installed it might be a good idea to include the symlink python -> python2.7 in the package. Seems to me this confusion has been going on for a couple of years? I think I will leave my symlink python -> python2.7 in place.

  • IPhone DEAD after 2.0.2 update!

I updated and iTunes said the update failed due to an unknown error after backing up the iPhone. The phone, still connected, had the apple logo. I disconnected and still nothing but a logo. After several minutes I performed a reset by holding down power/home buttons. After reboot I got the picture on the phone to connect to iTunes or slide for an emergency call. I connected to iTunes and got a message saying "The iPhone "Todd's iPhone" cannot be used with iTunes because information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone. Check that the SIM card is inserted in your phone and that it is not PIN-locked". Now my iPhone is completely dead with now way to start over. Any help is appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Hey Todd,
Was the iPhone in Airplane Mode when you started the restore?
Can the iPhone still make emergency calls? Try to make a call & disable Airplane Mode.
After Airplane Mode is off, try restoring the iPhone again.
If that does not work, try to reseat the SIM and restore the iPhone.

  • KT6V 7021 - OnBoard NIC "dead" after BIOS 2.00 update ... any thoughts?

    Hi!
Just flashed KT6V BIOS 2.00 and now my onboard nic suddenly stopped working.
The network adapter gets recognized by Windows as usual, but although I do get a dhcp lease from my server I'm unable to connect to any share on it. It's also impossible to surf the web or to simply ping any local/remote host. If I try to connect to the system from any other workstation on the lan it doesn't work either.
The network status only shows a great amount of sent packages - caused by AVAST! as it tries to look for an update on boot - but only "0" received.
I flashed the BIOS from the emergency diskette and did a CMOS clear (Jumper) afterwards. And yes, I did disconnect my PSU from the wall socket.
Since I need network access to the system I tried stepping back to BIOS 1.90 but with no avail - the onboard nic doesn't receive a single paket after it has got it's dhcp lease.
Any clue what might be wrong and how I'm able to get my nic back to work?
Thank you in advance for any useful help.

    Hi Fredrik.
    Quote
So if you were to downgrade BIOS problems would go away, right?
I have already downgraded to BIOS 1.90 and the problem stayed the same - the onboard nic is still dead beef.
    Quote
When clearing CMOS there can be no el. left in your system, so unplug power cable etc.
As mentioned in my first post I _have_ unplugged the power cord from the wall socket.
    Quote
If the new BIOS would affect NIC card... Hm, it is hard to see quite how.
I can't think of any reason either, however, the nic went dead after updating to BIOS v2.00. I assume that there must be some kind of "network code" inside the bios which has to do with the onboard nic - otherwise I'm unable to explain why the MAC address suddenly changed to "11:22:33:44:55:66". If I would only have a clue on how to access and/or flash the nic ... ???
    Quote
Is there any error marks for the nic in say Device Manager, if you get that far?
Nope, there is no question or exclamation mark on the network card in the device manager. Windows thinks the card is working, but in reality it isn't. As already stated: No traffic from/to the network.

  • IPhoe4 appears dead after plugging into laptop

After I plugged my iPhone4 to my laptop (XP), it did not start charging. The screen looks dead and I cannot power on/off. However when I call my number from another line, it rings! I have been using my iPhone to charge from laptop, wall socket for 3 months now.
Before I plugged into the laptop, the charge on the ipHone was showing at 49% - so there is some bit of battery still left in there.

First plug your mini on an USB-Power adapter NO PC!!
Than normally it will start, load the mini's battery for a while.
Than instal the latest version of itunes on your pc.
Open itunes than plug your mini in...
And it normally shows up.. Restore and done!
When it doesn't work the mini has a wrong format! That happens when you restored it on a mac!!!
Maybe you've done that. Than plug it into a mac open Disc-Utility than change the format to FAT.
Than again in your windows and will it work...
Ask again when it won't or you does'nt understand

  • Z61t Battery is dead after 1 1/2 year

Hi guys, is any of you have problem with Z61t battery being dead after 1.5 year? At 1 year mark, my extended battery only lasted 1 hr of use instead of 3 hrs when I first bought it. Now it totally dead, so when I unplug the AC adapter, it shut off.  This already happened to my friend with the same model.  I didn't pay attention when he told me until now.  I couldn't believe this is happening b/c two of my previous laptops(different brands) were working fine.  I sure won't buy another lenovo product again in the future.  This is so disappointing.....

Welcome to the wonderful world of these sub par batteries now.
I have a T61 that is slightly more that a year old, and the battery is rated as Fair (can only hold 78% of it's original charge) - with only 3 cycles.
Very dissapointing considering my T41's battery is more that 3 years old and is rated as good and can hold 105% of it's original charge - go figure.
However, what seems to be key here is what power supply you use. If you use the wrong one, your battery life will be compromised.
Go to eBay and buy another genuine battery, but make sure the cycle count is low and make sure you are using the correct power supply.
Presently with an X201 and a T500/T410 combo
I've owned everything from a 701c up to present which equal a ton of ThinkPads

  • Bluetooth-dead after coming out of sleep-have to shutdown/back on with switch-then all is normal again-help please

Intel iMac-bluetooth seems dead after sleep.  Screen will come on after pushing power button, but wireless keyboard, trackpad, and mouse are dead.  Shutdown using power button, push again to turn back on and all is back to normal...any idea what is going on?

There's a long thread here about this problem (and I think I've seen several others):
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2223188?start=345&tstart=0
Seemed to start as a Snow Leopard issue but seems to have morphed into a Lion problem for some.
I have experienced the problem myself since updating to Lion, although only a couple of times. My workround is to set computer sleep to 'never'. Hoping that 10.7.2 will address the problem whenever it is released.

  • Left USB-Port dead after wake from sleep. Just restart helps.

I hoped Apples keyboard-Update today would solve my biggest hate-bug in this buggy POS called Leopard. It didn't.
As usual on my Leopard-Macbook Pro, no device will work on the left USB-Port after I waked the computer from sleep. Just a restart helps. I hoped this update to solve this, because it replaced among others "IOUSBFamily.kext".
Terminal gives a timeout error for the internal USB-Hub after wake from sleep. I assumed this should be related.
    I'm really angry now.
When will Apple solve the most urgent problems in Leopard?
Was 10.5.1 just smoke and mirrors to make (fool people into...) people upgrade who intended to wait until the first maintenance-update?
Was Leopard Apples attempt to make Windows-Users more comfortable by putting in some heavy extra-bugs and blue screens?
FIX IT FINALLY! And f... don't wait for Macworld to release 10.5.2. It's desperately needed and the current state of Leopard will leave some people very sad at christmas after getting their first Mac. First impression counts and many more peoples first contact with the Mac will be at christmas...

Apple knows the problem and for some reason they are stumped on fixing it. this is so bad I can't believe it. On my macbook pro with Leopard installed, USB left port is dead after sleep. Only restarting can power it back up. I have to restart every day to use my external hard drive for time machine or when putting my flash drive in the port.
Come on already Apple. This is a SERIOUS, SERIOUS problem.
    Fix it.
