  • SD card not mounting in card slot, mounts only with USB card reader

    hi all,
I have browsed this forum "Ports and interfaces on the MacBook Pro (2008 and Later)" for a bit and searched for "SD" but did not find any posts directly related to my issue here.
I have a Kingston 512Mb card which mounts in my MacBook Pro only when I insert it in a cardreader inserted in the USB port.
Directly in the memory card slot it does not mount. Other SD cards do mount. I did not yet recognise a pattern in what mounts and does not mount.
I need to mount this specific SD card in the memory slot because bigger, newer SD cards are not accepted by the device I am using the card in (an iRex iLiad).
The Kingston 512Mb SD card is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT16) according to Disk Utility.
Any suggestions on what I could try? Buying other 512Mb cards is not that easy, there is not a lot available and only the ones on this list http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/IliadSD_Memorycardslist are supported by the device.
    TIA!

Within a year or two, a device that is limited to 512MB and smaller cards — and only certain ones of those — will probably be completely useless. As you've found, no one else is interested in buying such tiny cards any more, and their production is likely to be discontinued very soon.
This does nothing to explain why your card can't be read in the built-in reader, though. One thing to check is the position of the "lock" slider on the card; a small handful of other posters with similar problems have reported that if the slider isn't securely locked or unlocked (I don't recall which), it gets disturbed as the card is inserted, and the card can't be read as a result.
If that doesn't solve the problem for you, just use your USB reader when you have to read that particular card. As you say, your other (presumably larger) cards are all read properly in the built-in reader, so you know the reader works. There may just be a minute manufacturing-tolerance problem with that particular card.

Firewire drive will not mount on PowerBooks

    Hi All,
A friend of mine has a Titanium Powerbook G4 500's with 640mb ram and OS 10.2. She has purchased a Fantom Drive 120gb Firewire drive to back up her work. The drive will not mount on her machine. It will mount on my G5 running 10.3.9. I went to the Fantom Site, and all I could find was a link to Apple's site on Tiger.
She bought a set of Panther disks and wanted to back up all of her stuff before the upgrade.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    David

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that did'nt work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try. Hers should be the 10.2.8 Combo update. Others reading, download the Combo that applies to your system.
If that still did'nt get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!
    Good Luck!
    Cheers!

  • SCSI drive on SCSI controller card wont mount using OSX leopard

My SCSI drive on a SCSI controller PCI card wont mount using OSX Leopard. It mounts fine using OSX Tiger 10.4.11
How can I make it mount on Leopard?

Hi, Charlie. Have you tried reformatting the card(s) in your camera(s)? Did your reader require the installation of any proprietary software that might have become corrupted on the G5, and if so, have you reinstalled it?

Exactly the same - if that reassures you.
    Nikon d300

CF card not recognised in card reader - not seen by Nikon Transfer 2, Lightroom or iPhoto
D300 not recognised by Nikon Transfer 2,  lightroom or iPhoto
Disk Utilities show that the CF card and the camera is connected
But, I can't access any of my images on the CF card. And that's a bit of a problem.
(I have all the WiFi issues as well)
Isn't this a great OS release.
I'm getting used to 'Googling' remedies for the Yosemite experience.
Have you found a solution yet ?

  • SD Card not mounting with Yosemite, Disk Utility Yes, Finder No

    Hi Everyone!
    mid-2012 15" rMBP
    2.7 GHz i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Yosemite 10.10
Installed Yosemite about 2 weeks ago.  So far things have been fine.
Just this morning tried reading a Nikon formatted Sony Class 10 (40MB/s) 16 GB SD card through the internal SD card reader - and nothing happened.  After some poking around I noticed that the SD card is recognized by both the Disk Utility and the System Software, but not by Finder.  The SD card will not mount.
It is not the SD card because it will mount on my buddies MBP running Mavericks (I had to upload the photos through Dropbox off his MBP).
I have already tried resetting both the PRAM and the SMC - it did not change anything.  The system would still not mount the SD Card.
Here is the interesting thing.  I have taken an old Class 4 8GB SD card which also wasn't being recognized and using Disk Utility, reformatted from MS DOS FAT to EXFat.  Now Finder will in fact mount the drive.  However, my Nikon or other devices will not accept an ExFAT formatted SD Card.
    Check this out:
    Anyone have any ideas?
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

  • SD Card not mounting (SanDisk Ultra 32gb)

    Another MacBook Pro Problem
    Hi,
I am trying to insert my 32GB SanDisk Ultra SD card into my MacBook Pro 15", however it isnt reading the card, and nothing happens.
I have tried restarting the Mac, updated all software/hardware and still nothing.
Does anyone know why this may be?
    Thanks

It's unbelievable. I tried one SDHC Card and two Micro SDHC using two different adapters (one by Samsung other by Kingston), and I had the same problem. The card mounting/recognition by the mac is totally intermittent.
    My system is a MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2010, OS X 10.8.5
The SDHC card and both the micro SDHC cards and their adapters are imediately recognized when plugged on my Samsung Ultrabook.
Since I don't have bootcamp here (only Parallels) I cannot say if it's a software (OS X) or a hardware failure. Both things are sad!

  • SD card not mounting

    Hi there,
I know there are some discussions already open regarding this problem. Mine is a tad different, instead of not mounting, I get the "device removal message"instantly.
I checked my card reader w another card, it works. The card itself works in another camera showing all pictures.
I tried Photorescue Wizard, no success.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?
    Thanks,
    Katja

Thanks for replying mende1.  Disk utilities isn't seeing my SD card is there so I can't use that approach.
I'm wondering if there has been an update which has somehow disabled the SD card reader.

  • Lower PC Card slot on 1999 PowerBook (Wall Street)

I have added a USB port via a dedicated PC card. If I insert it in the upper slot it works fine (e.g. I can print), but if I insert it in the lower slot it doesn't (e.g. I can't print). But if I eject the USB PC Card from the lower slot with the computer running, the Finder crashes, as if the lower slot was kind of inoperable, but kind of detected anyway...
Any diagnosis tips? Is it just a setting somewhere?
    Thanks!
    Carlos Sanchez
1999 PowerBook (Wall Street)   Mac OS 9.1.x

    Carlos,
Both slots on the Wallstreet should work with any PC card with one exception. The lower slot also has Zoomed Video support and that is where the DVD Decoder PC card is used if playing DVDs.
If the upper slot works properly but not the lower, odds are there is a hardware problem with PCMCIA/CardBus cage; this is the mechanism into which you insert the PC card.
If this Wallstreet was bought used, it probably came to you with this problem. The lower slot may have been heavily used by the previous owner or it just failed with normal use as mechanical devices sometimes do.
When you insert the card in the lower slot, does the PC card icon appear on the desktop?
Are you using a combo PC card (both FireWire and USB) or just USB?
I will mention this anyway, but I am sure you are aware...'processor cycling' must be disabled in the Energy Saver > Advanced Settings for both Battery and Power Adapter when using a USB PC card, otherwise the 'book will freeze.
    Please do not cross-post...

  • Usb2 pc card for Iphone w/Powerbook G4 440mhz

I want to get an iphone...been waiting all my life, I realize...but have usb 1.1. There are fire wire/usb 2.0 combo pc card bus adapters available for my old powerbook. I've heard the iphone won't run on usb 1.1. Does anyone have any idea what my chances are with an adapter of using an iphone with this old laptop?
    thanks

I'm using a PowerBook G4 400 MHz using 10.4.10. I had some problems connecting to the phone in iTunes, but a recent update (either OS X 10.4.10, iTunes 7.4.2 and/or iPhone 1.1.1) mostly resolved it. I now just have to log off & back on before I reconnect the phone, then start iTunes. (I also told iPhoto and iTunes not to autostart a while ago.) That being said, I'm typing this whilst iTunes is uploading songs, about 10 seconds per song.
    I miss FireWire.

  • Adding Airport card to 867mhz Ti Powerbook?

    Hi,
I have a 867mhz Titanium Powerbook that i need to add an Airport card too, how do do this and what will it (roughly) cost?

Just an added note to eww's info: I checked ebay a couple of months ago, and people were selling supposedly new/sealed cards for over $100, used a little under that.
Make sure you get an ORIGINAL AP card, NOT an Extreme or the newer version. You may also want to consider a PCMCIA wireless card (fits in PC card slot). Most people get better distance, they're cheaper, and you can get the "g" style (54mbps instead of 11). The drawback is that it takes up that slot and sticks out the side 3/4 of an inch or so. Some brands work seamlessly with Apple's built-in AP software.

  • Using a third-party card and gateway with PowerBook Pismo

    Hi,
My birthday present this year was an Apple PowerBook Pismo - the G3 400 model (full spec. below). It runs the latest version of Mac OSX (10.4.6 as below). Before I got the Pismo, I bought a Linksys WPC54G wireless card for my original laptop, a ThinkPad T23. This works fine with my Linksys WAG354G gateway, but I'm wondering if I can do the same with the Pismo, since original AirPort cards are still hovering at £70-£90.
My Linksys card is the revision-3 ie 'v3' version. It seems to be detected by my Pismo - running the AirPort setup wizard means it is detected and the access point is found. My network is protected with WPA (I think it's version 2) encryption, and AirPort asks me for the network password during setup. However, the next screen is blank - the screen that asks about base stations. Clicking 'Scan Again' does nothing, and I cannot continue. This was all with the original verison of Mac OS 10.4, by the way. I updated the Pismo last night, so I'll have a go with it. Since it is detected by AirPort, would I be correct in thinking the card has the Broadcom chip that is AirPort-compatible? It shows up in Apple System Profiler as 'Third-Party Wireless Adaptor,' if that helps.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Rob Johnson

    You're quite welcome zwarbo.
Should you need it, the procedure (as I remember it, my Pismo's out of action at the moment) is as follows:
Insert the card into the 'Book and allow Mac OS to find it. Once the 'PC Card' symbol appears beside the clock, click on the symbol and read the drop-down menu. If it says something like 'Unknown brand - Network Controller,' the Pismo has found your card. Next, open 'System Profiler' (Hard Drive -> Applications -> Utilities). Point to 'Network.' If your card is working as expected, it should display 'AirPort Extreme.' If not, you may have a card using another brand of chip, since only cards using BroadCom chips are supported natively by Mac OS. It's hit-and-miss what chip you get in your card - there doesn't seem to be a general trend. My card has the FCC ID 'Q87-WPC54GV3' and the IC ID '3839A-WPC54GV3,' if this helps.
If it does show up as AirPort Extreme, here is the full procedure for setting up the card for your network:
    - Open 'System Preferences'
    - Head to 'Network'
    - There should be an option, possibly in the drop-down box, to select 'AirPort.'
    - You will then have the option of switching AirPort on.
    - Select 'Only Join Preferred Networks'and either search for your access point, or manually input your router's details (the default IP address for the WAG354G is 192.168.1.1).
    - Now, when you insert your card, AirPort should automatically switch on and connect to your network. Naturally, if you want to use your Pismo on the move, you'll have to uncheck the above and try another way. Enabling the 'Show AirPort Status' is useful, while you're there.
Take this as a rough guide. My Pismo has a battery problem, so I'm having it sorted. As such, I can't actually use it, so when the 'Book is back in action, I'll double-check the procedure (I don't posess another Mac other than an ancient iMac G3, long before wireless). The Mac should remember your WEP or WPA key, unlike the Linksys Windows utility, which is tempermental at best.
    Hope this helps,
    Rob Johnson

  • Script to move .MOV videos off Canon EOS_Digital CF card on mount?

I use Adobe Lightroom as an integral part of my digital photography workflow, and I recently acquired a Canon EOS 5D Mark-II digital camera, which is capable of capturing 1920x1080 HD video.
The problem I am having is that Lightroom does not provide support for importing video, so every time I insert my compact flash card containing images and video captured using the 5D MKII, I am notified of videos on the card that cannot be transferred into my Lightroom database...I then have to click OK to dismiss this notification message, then I have to manually browse the card to find the movies and copy them to my computer manually...
While this might not seem like that big of an issue, I've become accustomed to this process being a completely automated, so to go back to having to perform a number of steps manually seems a bit too much like backtracking to me, so I was hoping that someone here might be able to help me automate this process via AppleScript...
*• Ideally, a script that could be executed on my "EOS_Digital" volume (my CF card's name, which will always remain the same), and will scour the contents of that volume for .MOV files, and upon finding such files, it would copy them all to my ~/Movies/ directory before then removing (deleting) them from the card completely...*
*• The CF card will also contain .THM files that correspond to the .MOV files to provide thumbnails of the .MOV files for Windows users...I would ideally like to have these moved along with the .MOV files to the ~/Movies/ directory (or trashed completely), because Lightroom give me a notification warning that they cannot be imported into the image database*
*• I would trigger the script via QuickSilver (or FastScripts, QuicKeys, etc), which I could do manually after inserting my CF card...*
I know it's a long shot that someone would be willing to help me out with this task, but any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks so much, and I look forward to your responses!

    Hello
If you are going to call the script manually when the target volume is mounted, try something like SCRIPT1.
    --SCRIPT1
    main()
    on main()
set srcPath to "EOS_Digital:" -- # HFS path of source directory
set dstPath to (path to movies folder from user domain as Unicode text) -- # HFS path of destination directory
    try
set src to quoted form of ((POSIX path of (srcPath as alias))'s text 1 thru -2)
set dst to quoted form of (POSIX path of (dstPath as alias))
    on error errs number errn
    display dialog errs & " " & errn with icon 2
    error number -128
    end try
    set sh to "find " & src & " -type f \\(-iname '*.mov' -or -iname '*.thm' \\) -print0 | xargs -0 -J % mv % " & dst
    do shell script sh
    end main
    --END OF SCRIPT1
If you want the script to be called automatically when the target volume gets mounted, try something like SCRIPT2.
You need to set up it as a Folder Action attached to /Volumes directory.
    --SCRIPT2
    Usage -
    (1) Save this script as compiled script or script bundle in either of -
    /Library/Scripts/Folder Action Scripts/
    ~/Library/Scripts/Folder Action Scripts/
    (2) Using /Application/AppleScript/Folder Actions Setup,
enable Folder Actions for /Volumes directory and attach this script (saved in (1)) to it.
    cf.
    ASLG > Folder Actions Reference
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/applescript/Conceptual/AppleScriptLangG uide/
on adding folder items to da after receiving aa
set srcPath to "EOS_Digital:" -- # HFS path of source directory
set dstPath to (path to movies folder from user domain as Unicode text) -- # HFS path of destination directory
    repeat with a in aa
    set a to a's contents
if (a as Unicode text) = srcPath then
set src to quoted form of ((POSIX path of a)'s text 1 thru -2)
set dst to quoted form of (POSIX path of (dstPath as alias))
    set sh to "find " & src & " -type f \\(-iname '*.mov' -or -iname '*.thm' \\) -print0 | xargs -0 -J % mv % " & dst
    do shell script sh
    end if
    end repeat
    end adding folder items to
    --END OF SCRIPT2
    Hope this may help,
    H

  • Why is an NTFS partition not mounting on Powerbook & how to get it to

I have a new external portable (bus powered) Maxtor Mini III drive that is formatted NTFS for Windows, My powerbook 1.5gHz cannot mount it. Disk utility recognizes the drive by name, but shows no volume and the erase tab is all gray. It mounts read and writes on an older PC running windows XT (at a friends). It also mounts to desktop on an older iMac, (I think that is the model apple) It belongs to a school and I have no administrator access to run disk utility on it nor play with it otherwise.
Therefore I conclude that a 1 year powerbook no longer has the capacity to mount what an older iMac is mounting.
    What's that all about?
My goal is to be able to reformat this drive with my powerbook.
    How can I do that?
I expect that if I use disk management utility on a PC and delete the partition, it will then be format-able on my powerbook. Expecting that then, when inserted the OS 10.4 will say the drive is not recognized and ask if I want to format it.
Perhaps what I need is some sort of generic universal NTSF USB "driver" for my mac such that I can recognize the NTSF partition and then delete it on the powerbook.
    Any such thing? or what?
    Thanks,

I was wrong, it is not NTFS. According to a 700 mHz eMac running 10.3.9, it is Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled). And it mounts the desktop on the eMac as well as reading and writing. I can copy files to it and remove them on the eMac.
My powerbook 1.5 gHz on the other hand, still not mounting.
Given this error I will repost this problem under a new subject.
Why would a drive mount an eMac desktop but not a Powerbook?
