  • USB Card reader works on MacBook Pro but not Mac Pro

I have a random "All-in-1" card reader from Quantaray. I'm trying to mount my CF card because it takes forever and a day to import HD video directly from my Canon 5D Mk II.
It works on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010). Both computers are running 10.6.8. All I have to do is plug it in and it appears on the desktop on my Macbook. But not on my Mac Pro.
I've already tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. No dice
It shows up in the System Profiler under the USB High Speed port as a usb card reader but I can't find it anywhere; not even in Disk Utility.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    jaypie77,
First, you must identify the application that created the file. If it truly was Macromedia Flash, fine. Once you know which app created the file, make certain that the same application exists on the Mac Pro. If it does, set the file to open in that application: Open a Getinfo window for the file, then use the "Open With..." dialogue to choose Macromedia Flash (or the correct application) to open the file.

  • Could anyone recommend a reliable card reader for my MacBook Pro please?

    Hi,
Looking for a reliable card reader for compact flash and SD cards for my MacBook Pro.  Would anyone be able to recommend one please?  Most reviews I've read only seem to mention Windows and I'm not sure whether they are Mac compatible.
    Many thanks, Karen

    Karen,
Hi, what year is you macbook pro?  Is it the Early 2008 one with the grey keyboard, or the newer ones with black keys?  If you have the grey keyboard macbook pro I use the Sandisk card reader:
For the newer MacBook Pro's a usb card reader works well in addition to the sd card reader built in the MacBook Pro.  They are making thunderbolt card readers now for a low price:http://computers.pricegrabber.com/flash-memory-readers-accessories/SmartDisk-THU NDERBOLT-SD-STICK-WRITER-USB/m16520521.html

  • Get the Dell EVDO Express Card working on a Macbook Pro - here's how

    I found this here:
    http://svenontech.com/2006/06/11/get-ev-do-access-on-your-macbook-pro-now-from-v erizon-via-your-xv6700/
On the Mac side, you’ll first need to pair your XV6700 and Mac to each other. You should be able to do this easily, but if you need some help, check out Apple’s site for direct documentation on how to do this. When pairing, select “Other” device from the list, not “Phone”.
Once paired, the last screen will ask if you wish to use the device as a modem and headset. Uncheck headset (unless you wish to use your phone to communicate with others on applications such as Skype.) Now follow these instructions for setting up the modem:
Username: (Your full phone number) [email protected]
    Password: vzw
    Phone Number: #777
Mode Script: au cdmaOne Bluetooth Adapter
    Leave all check boxes checked
    Click CONTINUE
    Click QUIT
You’re now all set on the Mac side. You’ll now see a phone with a dot slash icon on your menu bar. Select it and choose “Connect”. Remember to have your XV6700 on, Bluetooth enabled, and the WMmodem application running Bluetooth mode with the START button activated. If all this is the case, you’ll be connected in seconds and your modem icon will display a counter next to it once connected. Enjoy the EV-DO!
Can someone verify that this works? I have a Dell Card on order.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    David,
    Thanks for the response.
Before I read this I went to the apple store and tried some BT file transfers to another Mac and experienced the same results. I then went to the Sony store and tested it on a XP laptop and experienced the same speeds. I am able to achieve twice that rate when doing mac to mac BT transfere. I know my MBP has BT 2.0, but I didn't think my first generation Mini was 2.0.
I am able to sync via USB with Mark/Space's Missingsync, but it doesn't appear that they support DUN. I will email them, to see if they will consider it.
I just bought my 6700, so I still have the choice to return it. I am not sure if I should get another device that currently supports EVDO DUN via USB or suck it up and hope someone makes a usb dun driver for the 6700.
    Thanks again.

  • How do I download Adobe Reader to my MacBook Pro?  I have tried 8 times used advice and it says contact software people who don't work on weekends/ can't read my bank statement which is in pdf!

How do I download Adobe Reader to my MacBook Pro?  I have tried 8 times at least.  Error message says contact software people.  They don't work on weekend.  I am leaving tomorrow

  • Scrolling through PDF files is slow using Adobe Reader on MY MACBOOK pro with retina

Scrolling through PDF file using Adobe reader on my MACBOOK pro is very slow and stuters. That is even for small files. MAC preview and Adobe pro do not have this issue. It is only Adobe ready.
    Please advice.

Summarizing the problem specifics and versions for future readers:
There are two separate "slow scrolling" bugs in recent versions of Adobe Reader on Mac OS X. Symptoms: scrolling by mouse or fn + down arrow is very sluggish and laggy. It is not isolated to large or graphically complex documents. This 2 megabyte PDF shows illustrates the problem: http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/nasa-tnd-6846pt.1.pdf
Problem 1: Adobe plug-in for Safari causes slow scrolling when viewing PDF documents within Safari. Solution: remove Adobe plugins from Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin. I also deleted AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin. This will cause PDF display within Safari to revert to the built-in Apple PDF renderer, which is very fast. These files will be re-installed anytime you install or upgrade Adobe Reader.
Problem 2: Stand-alone Adobe Reader scrolling is slow starting with version 11.0.01. Version 10.1.4 and earlier are not slow. User CF McBlob did not experience this slowdown, but was also running Acrobat 10.1.7, which might have libraries which prevented the problem. I'll do further testing when possible to try and isolate more details.
    Platform specifics: OS X 10.8.4, late 2012 iMac 27", i7 3.4Ghz, 16GB RAM, 3TB Fusion drive, GPU = GTX675MX, 1GB

  • I can't download new version of adobe reader to my MacBook Pro.  Please help?

I can't download a newer version of adobe reader to my MacBook Pro.  What can I do?

No, sorry, that's not how forums work. We are just ordinary people, not employed by Adobe (and Adobe won't help, because it's free software).
Step 1. Try to get the file you want on screen. I expect you to see the message "If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document"
Step 2. Understand you are looking at a page of a file, even though it looks like an error message. It is in a window, right?
Step 3. Move your mouse towards the bottom of the window. Stop moving the mouse. A little bar should appear with four buttons.
Step 4. Click the fourth button.
    Step 5. Open FINDER.
Step 6. Open Downloads from your left bar.
Step 7. Find the file you just downloaded.
Step 8. Double click on that file to open it.
Please do not skip anything, just because you don't understand it. Instead, let us know.
If these instructions let you down, please let us know (a) on which step, and (b) what actually happens instead of what I said.

Been trying to use an external memory card reader with my macbook air… connecting via usb port, air does not recognize device nor the microSD card from my gopro … help

  • Pro 2840 No mini DP detection on Macbook Pro 2014 from 'thunderbolt' port. Help!

May have relation to this issue http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVision-displays/Lenovo-ThinkVision-Pro2840m-4K-no-DisplayPort-signa...
The solution for which is apparently a firmware update (firmware updates are not public and require sending the monitor to lenovo.)
Now as far as I understand it, this monitor can display at 60hz over through it's mini display port. New macbook pros don't have a display port output, but have a thunderbolt output which the more astute among you will know is effectively the same thing as a mini display port output.
Now upon connecting the thunderbolt cable from my macbook to the pro 2840m, nothing happens. The monitor acts like it's recieiving no signal (although recognises the connection) and my macbook doesnt detect a new monitor.
I've had absolutely no luck finding a solution to this problem and given how common my hardware is I can't be the only one. Does anyone have any ideas? Stuck using the monitor at 30hz and I'd rather have a refund than continue on like this.
    Thanks for reading!

Out of own experience I can say that the fault here is with your cable. For 4K@60Hz you absolutely need a TRUE DisplayPort 1.2 certified cable (be it DP, miniDP or Thunderbolt). I was supprised despite silly brands like StarTech.com, Intronics or ACT caliming their DP-DP cables to support DisplayPort 1.2, to experience for myself that in fact they didn't at all. I had to try 4 different cable brands, to finally find one DP-DP cable by Delock (from the 8277x family) which truely supported DisplayPort 1.2 signals.

  • How Can I use Type II PC Cards (cardbus) On My Macbook Pro

    Greetings...
I have tried a search but to no avail.... I was given FREE of charge a EVDO pc card to use with UNLIMITED usage p/month...PROBLEM is I have Macbook Pro original release.. the card is obviously the Type II pc card..
    1. is there any way i can use this card with my macbook pro?
    2. what is the official "name" of my model? i.e. 1st release.. ect. ect..
    3. what other way can i make this work?
    please do advise..
    thank you kindly!!
    oNe

    Hi Sean,
    1. I found this with a quick Google search: http://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/?productid=DP-0001
Only catch with this is the cost of the adapter negates the free pc card.
    2. Not sure of an official name other than MacBook Pro and then it's CPU speed and its chip designation (i.e. Core Duo, Core 2 Duo). I've seen the last couple of generations referred to by Intel's designations (i.e. Santa Rosa, Penryn).
    3. Don't know any other way other than getting an Expresscard-compliant card.
    HTH.

After researching this topic, I found the placing an old SIM card in a new iPad would be impossible. There is no way for consumers to remove the back cover... Without dropping it off a building. My best suggestion: Use the current plan up first. Then buy a new plan.

  • Where is the WiFi card in a 2010 MacBook Pro 15' I5

So today i had turned on my 2010 MacBook Pro 2.53GHz Intel i5 15', to notice that the wifi bars are no longer there. I suspect there being an issue with the wifi card, but with this unit, i'm confused as to where it is. I have looked around on the internet and google images and some are in different place than others. I also heard from somewhere else online that it is a built in wifi card, if so where is that located? By the heat sink or is it the antenna looking cables? I'm desperate to get this thing fully functional as for i need it for school and work in the morning and my only source of internet is via wifi.

Well this unit was once water damaged and with significant time and dedication i brought this unit from the dead to life. So maybe this is one of the minor things that has finally given out, the water damage was a few months ago and it was working fine along that entire time, but tonight maybe it has given. Do you by chance know what the visible card is that is next to the heat sink but is not covered by it?

  • SD Card gets "wiped" by MacBook Pro's SD Card Slot.

Oddly enough, the first time I plug in an 8GB SDHC card into my MacBook, it reads perfectly fine.  I leave the card in there for a while (an hour or so) then I reopen the SD Card to move a few of the pictures I took over... But as soon as I do... I notice there is NOTHING inside the DCIM folder!!
I eject the card, put it back into my camera and it shows that I have no pictures taken!!
So I decide to do a test.  I take a picture, and then remove the SD Card and put it back into my MacBook Pro.  The picture this time shows!  Inside the DCIM folder there is a 101Canon folder with the picture inside it.  But only that picture.  As soon as I eject the card, remove and put it back into the MacBook Pro, the DCIM folder is empty yet again!  But I have done nothing!!!
I looked at the Finder's bottom for remaining disc space, and it says my SD Card has 4.xx GB available on an 8 GB card!  Figuring out that the files may have been hidden I used this command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
This makes a few more folders pop out.  But all of which are empty!
I test again on the camera by taking a shot.  Camera says it can take 711 more pictures on my SDHC card, so I take one, which brings it down to 710, plug it into my computer, view the file in the computer, eject and reopen the SD card to make sure the file has "disappeared" before plugging it back into my camera.  It then says it can take another 710 pictures!!  This confirms that there is data stores on the SD Card, but cannot be seen!!  Why are my files disappearing?  Any ideas anyone?  I need help!
I've checked the forums, and it seems no one has come across the same problem I've had... As most people are more concerned with losing while moving their files or recovery.
    Thanks!

Yes, the card was erased.  It only had five or six photos, but I knew they were there as I had reviewed them in the camera.  When the card was inserted into the slot on the laptop, it imported nothing.  It was apparently erased upon insertion, since nothing was imported.  I then put the card back in the camera and it was empty.  Later I tried with a different card and it worked properly.  Fortuntely, they weren't important photos.  But, I won't trust that slot again.  I'll use my USB card reader which I know I can depend on.

  • How to detect if Macbook pro infected with a bot?

Heard from Comcast that my MacBook Pro may be infected with a bot.  How do I know?  Should I download their recommended Norton AntiVirus software?

I'm not as convinced as Linc that this is a scam.  Of course, Comcast does have an agreement with Symantec to promote Norton, but that doesn't mean that they're likely to lie to customers to get them to use Norton.  That could get them into some pretty serious hot water.
It is possible that you could be infected with Flashback, and Comcast has detected botnet activity coming from your network as a result.  Make sure to run Software Update to install the latest Java- or Flashback-related update, which should remove any infection.  (If you're infected, it'll tell you, and if not, the update will just install and say nothing.)
However, it's very easy for these sorts of things to be wrong.  False positives come up all the time.  You could have had an infected Windows machine connected to your network at some point that triggered the warning.  That is more easily possible if your wireless network doesn't have a password, so you may have a neighbor using your network without permission.  Also, your IP address may have been used by someone else, who was infected with something, until recently and the IP addresses were reassigned from the pool of available IP addresses.  Which just means the previous user of the IP address triggered the warning, and now you're using the address so you're receiving the warning by mistake.
If they give you a hard time about installing AV software, install Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition or ClamXav, both of which are free and excellent.  Then scan your machine and let them know you're clean.  Do not install Norton.
