P2 cards & Multiclips & FCP 5 oh my

I imported P2 files into FCP from a 2-camera shoot. The sound was recorded separately from the camera sound. Now I have multiclips and .wav files, but I don't how to most efficiently go about syncing the good sound (.wav files) to the multiclips, and the multiclips will help with fast editing for a quick turnaround.
Please advise if you have insight.

P2 support in early versions of FCP was very limited. Renaming caused issues if you needed to ever re-ingest the footage. This was fixed with later versions. But I'd avoid it. TO do that, move the COMMENTS column over and use that to name your footage.

  • Can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6

I can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6.01 HD. Am using Macbook Pro, 2 gig of RAM. This is my first time NOT using tape. I can copy the files off the memory card onto an external drive (to free up the card for pro crew's next day's shoot), but can't import either to FCP. Do I need to convert the files in some way before FCP can read them? Need to fix this problem fast as the crew are off to Nepal for 2 week shoot.

    Laura,
First, I'm assuming that you're referring to the XDCAM EX. You'll need to install the FCP 6.0.2 upgrade, which contains the XDCAM EX codecs.
Second, You'll need to install the PDZK-P1 Transfer Application, and use that to import your EX clips into FCP. I just noticed that there is a new version available, 2.5.1 which is labeled specifically for Tiger/Leopard. I haven't tested this version yet, and will report back on any stability issues. We're currently running version 2.1.1, without many issues.

  • What's the best graphic card for FCP X and a Mac Pro (early) 2008?

I have a Radeon HD 3870 in my Mac Pro, it seems that I cannot use this configuration with Final Cut Pro X. Then what's the best graphic card for FCP X usable in a Mac Pro (early) 2008?
    Thx,
    Phil

You can get a 5770 radeon ATI MAC card
Avoid the 5770 cards on ebay and Amazon - many are black market or manipulated cards.
Buy it from Apple online store or B&H photo or Macconection
And in my case, I was able to sell my old 2600 XT card on ebay for $65 and put that money toward a 5770 card (Which was about $230 minus the $65)
I installed the 5770 in my early Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 and it works great

  • Sony Z7 Card Files-FCP 6.0.2 ...

    Dear All,
A very basic question which I feel sure you can solve in a flick of an eye:
I have a Sony Z7 camera which records HDV on 16G Compact Flash cards. I have conducted a test and shot a few minutes worth.
So that FCP can read and deal with the files on the card, it system tells me that I need FCP version 6.0.2, whereas I have 6.0.1.
How can this upgrade be accomplished? I have started a 'Software Update' off the 'interweb' and within all the incoming files, there's nothing that says 'Final Cut Pro Update' ... or could it be in 'Pro Applications Update'?
As I said, a very simple question from someone very simple!
Any clues as to this necessary update?
    Regards,
    sky-pix

The update now shows that I have 6.0.2 however ...
I have shot a few minutes of footage on my new 16G UDMA 300x Compact Flash Card.
I created a file on my desktop and, using the Lexar UDMA card reader, dragged all the files on the card into the file.
Opening Final Cut Pro, I went to FILE > IMPORT > FILES and went to the file on the desktop. The fiies in the folder remained grey until I selected "Show: All Files".
If I select 'All', I get an error message saying:
File Error: 13 file(s) recognised, 0 access denied, 13 unknown
If I select the '.MT2' files, I get an error message saying:
File Error: 6 file(s) recognised, 0 access denied, 6 unknown
    Where am I going wrong?

  • Capturing footage from a camcorder memory card into FCP 7

I teach high school video technology.  We are using FCP 7 and are awaiting the upgrade to 10.
In the past, we connected canon camcorders to the macs using a firewire and utilized the log and capture option under the file menu to put footage from miniDV tapes onto the computer to edit.
We just purchased canon FS400 cameras that use a memory card to store video instead.  We have 18 computers and only ONE allows us to use the log and transfer option under the FCP 7 file menu to import footage from the memory card to the computer so the kids can edit what they shot.  We have connected the camera to the computer using the USB cord that came with the cameras.  However, there's only a message that comes on the camera LCD that says not to disconnect the USB cable or the power source until you safely end the connection from the computer.
When we launch FCP and select the log and transfer option from the file menu, nothing happens.  on the one computer that DOES work, log and transfer allows the footage on the memory card to pop up after a little while and we drag it where we need it to go and it uploads to the computer.
I'm thinking it has to do with the computer settings.  I tried the software updates on one computer and nothing changed.  Still unable to import/capture.  Please help as the district tech support can't get to us anytime soon and my students have planned and shot 2 different productions they can't even edit yet.  I don't want to keep planning and shooting if they can never edit.  Thanks so much for ANY reply.

i'm not sure what you mean when you say "make sure you see the cards mounted on your computer."
You know when you insert a CD or external firewire drive, it appears on the desktop and in the browser windows? That's what should happen with your camera media. You may have to set the camera differently, try a different cable, etc., until you can see the media.
Wait until the computer recognizes the media, then launch Final Cut.

  • Output card for FCP / Color

    Hi there,
I'd like to get a card to monitor from within FCP and Color and just wondered which of the Blackmagic cards would work.
    Thanks.

I'd check with Blackmagic on the latest sets of drivers- depends what gear you want to monitor to. In theory any of their current line except for the Intensity card would work. There's also the AJA Kona cards and IO that I hear are a bit better suited to working with Color

  • Video Cards In FCP, do they matter?

Hi, I am going to be getting a new MacPro. Do video cards make any difference in FCP?
The MacPro product page only talks about video games Motion and some other apps. No mention of FCP, so does it matter if I have an ATI Radeon 4870 1GB or and Nvidia 980GT?
    Thanks, Anil K Solanki

Hi I have a 2x2.66 Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon
    8GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM Mac Pro..
    4 TB HDD
    Final Cut Studio 3
    Blackmagic HD Decklink
    Snow Leopard
And I am looking for a Good Video Card to work with this Early Mac Pro I've searched the internet and all it shows is video cards for (early 2009 Mac Pros) 800 MHz or DDR3. Please advise which video card I can buy and where to buy it, I edit an one hour show and use Final Cut and Motion round trip for graphics. I know my MAC Pro is a little outdated but hey.. I can't afford to buy a new one (yet).
    Thanks in advance!

  • Blackmagic Card into FCP is only capturing Black/White video .. need help

Hey all, I just bought a Blackmagic Decklink SP video card. Going into FCP when digitizing video only comes in Black and White.
    Here's the setup:
OLD VHS player (RCA out) into the Blackmagic card (BNC).
We're just using the (Y-in from deck) cable that came with the breakout cables. This is plugged into the VHS deck with a BNC to RCA adapter.
Does anyone what might be causing this ?
Is there a setting that I'm missing.
    Appreciate any replies

First off...show all of your students this tutorial:
    http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
It isn't long, and it shows the proper way to deal with tapeless footage in FCP.  Step 1: BACKUP THE CARD! Never import directly from the card. You need a backup first. Unless you are in a hurry, then you can import and backup later...before you erase the card.
But this camera is tricky...it shoots SD to those cards.  Standard Def.  With the world moving to High Def, I'm not sure that was the wisest purchase.  You really should be getting an HD camera.
As for the computers...do they all have the same OS version?  QT version?  FCP version?  They all should be at least at Mac OS 10.6.8, QT 7.6.6, and FCP 7.0.3.
But yeah...get a different camera.  And HD one.  And show that video in class.  Instill proper tapeless workflows while they are young!

  • How to create 'archive image' of canon 7d CF cards in FCP X

Hey just trying to figure this crazy program out.  I like that they have added in this feature, it just seems to not recognize the canon 7d as a camera.  I have tried both using a card reader and plugging the camera directly into the computer...neither of which results in getting the 'create archive' button to become available.  I know I can get the files in with the file import menu, but I always make backup disk images for safety.
This works in Final Cut 7 with the canon log and transfer plugin...I get the option to make a disk image of my card in the log and transfer window...do we need to wait for something from canon on this or am I missing some step?

There is a FCP X forum.... perhaps you'll get an answer there....

  • Correct way to Copy SD Card for FCP X

I have a series of SD cards that have AVCHD footage that I'll eventually ingest into FCP X. What I'd like to do is make a copy of the footage onto one of my hard drives and use that copy for Log and Transfer. I know I need make sure the file structure is unmodified, so what is the best way of doing this to make sure Log and Transfer goes properly in FCP X?

Third, and for me the easiest way:

  • Canopus ACEDVio Card into FCP, It's not working.  Cano Tech Sup isnt helpin

I hope I didn't just blow 300.00 on this card. Canopus ACEDVio. Any help here will be greatly appreciated. Canopus Tech support isn't helping, vague response. Cano's site says that its compatible with Mac OSX and FCP. Got the install CD and theres nothing on it for MAC OSX. Sent email and they said MAC/FCP should just recognize it automatically. There's no directions or manual on proper setup
I'm trying to bring in VHS tapes and work with them in FCP. Problem, FCP crashes or you never ever see VIDEO when in (log & capture). I have not been able to digitize anything yet.
My Easy setup is for DV NTSC @ 720X480. My Sequence Presets, Uncompressed 8 bit.
    No deck control
I checked my connections and in & outs
Any ideas here, does it sound like I'm doing something wrong here?

    Early 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   5 gig RAM

    Patrick,
What mac do you have? This one?
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg5/stats/powermac_g5_2.3dp.html
If so, that has PCI-X slots. PCI-X is backwards-compatible with relatively new PCI cards. If the card you bought is a 5-volt PCI card, it won't work.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X
Call Canopus and ask them what voltage that card is.
If the card won't work, you could always return it for an ADVC-110 or ADVC-300.

  • P2 Card  into FCP

HVX200 P2 advice, please (patience, I'm new to it):
Is it best/easier/faster to just Firewire from the HVX200 P2 card into my MacBook Pro and FCP? Or is it better to pull the card out and find some way to off load scenes into the MacBook Pro which I discover doesn't have a slot for the P2 (why did I think it would fit right into the card slot?)?

If you do it from the camera (which you can) you then lose the camera for production...that is time. And that can be a killer after a while. Best to offload the card onto a drive...for THAT is your master footage. Then import that into FCP later.
Your MacBook Pro will work with an adapter:
    http://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/?productid=DP-0001
Back the cards up to a hard drive in the field. For automation on that front, get P2 Genie...www.p2genie.com. Only $33.

  • Multiple Video Cards and FCP

I'm looking at getting a mac pro, and I'm wondering if there is any point to getting multiple video cards (2x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB).
I've been editing in FCP on a G5 for years now, and only had one video card.
Does the current version of FCP7 utilize them? Or does any of the other Studio software utilize them?
And if FCP7 does take advantage of multiple cards, where am I going to notice the difference if I add multiple cards... rendering? exporting? playback?
    Any advice would be great!

We see this topic in various forms about weekly.
FCP does not use multiple cards. In fact, FCP really doesn't take advantage of a single card's GPU. But Motion does, which means if you have .motn files in your FCP project, you may see some kind of boost.
I don't know anything about the 120 but, personally, I will never buy another nvidia card. The minimum for Motion would be the Radeon 4870.
FCPv5 and v6 had issues with some FxPlug filters supplied with Motion if you had multiple monitors plugged into multiple cards but not of you had multiple monitors plugged into a single card. This got fixed in FCP7.
