P2 OS X Bug, anyone know a workaround?
Here's what I've experienced. P2 card data, on card or copied to Mac hard drive, open in FCP (I've tried every version from 5.0 to 5.1.2), FCP claims a clip is corrupt and can't be imported.
Open P2 Log, it imports the clip just fine. But sometimes using P2 Log first I'll find a clip or two that report corrupt data. Open FCP and it imports just fine.
I've also had a few clips report as corrupt in both P2 Log AND FCP, take it to a buddy's Windows PC, no problem.
Windows PCs are NOT having this problem. It is Mac specific. Anyone know what's causing this? Seems to be a bug in OS X's P2 driver. There's a lot of noise about this on DVXuser.com, too!
Anyone know how to fix this?
Two things - first: there is a bug in 5.1.2 that causes it to report corrupt media at times... Because of this, I use 5.1.1 to capture my P2 media.
Second, I encountered this on one occasion: The camera assistant copying the media from the cards was very organized - copying the media into separate folders for each download. He labeled them like this:
I could see them in FCP, but when I tried to import them, FCP reported an error "Possibly corrupt media". But I knew the media was good, the assistant had checked it on set and found it imported fine. Then he said - "Well, it imported fine as long as I imported it from the P2 card directly. When I tried to import it from the files copied to my drive, it gave an error".
Hmmm.... Then I noticed the # sign in the folder name. CARD #1 - I know Shake has problems with file paths with funny characters, so I took out the # sign and the space from all the folder names and Voilá! Everything imported just fine...
Dunno if that's the problem in your case...

Logic's Biggest Bug - Anyone got a workaround?
The problem is importing WAV's with Long Filenames into the Audio Window, & then EXS sampler keys.
In one of my previous posts I explained that I lost all my work since purchasing Logic Pro last year (100+ logic songs), after I formatted OSX and then setup the exact same file structure, and Logic Plugins.
HOWEVER.
Logic didn't care to reference the actual original long filenames, it just remembered the first few letters of the file, with bogus numbers afterwards for example "Longfilena#342543.Wav"
I asked around for help, and "remake it all with shorter filenames" seems to be the standard answer.
Apparently this has been a problem for years, and they will never fix it.
IS THERE A WORKAROUND??
I am really deflated into making anything new, Because KNOW I will lose it again.
Or alternatively can someone explain why i paid $1500 AUD for a program that cant do stuff garageband can do? Just kidding, but as if the Logic programmers will ever magically release an update that fixes this problem.This is a real problem with Logic.
It's not the drive, it's not the drive format, it's not the OS.
This same problem with long file names has happned to me in the recent past. It happend to me right now with this example as I write this.
It happened with Apple's own Apple Loops from the "Jam Packs".
The drive is formatted as it was when this MBP was new =
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Example...
The apple loop file from jam pack 2 --> " 2- Downtempo Mellow Piano 02.aif"
has 34 characters in it (there is a space at the front and two spaces before the D)
and this is the way it was installed by the jam pack)
That file will import into LogicPro7 and it will be fine for a while.
Maybe a month later I will open that Logic Song and Logic will not be
able to find the file because it's looking for ...
" 2- Downtempo Mellow#CA4D7.aif" and I will have to locate the file manualy
and guess / try to remember if I used the Piano 02 or Piano 01 because I can't
tell what the name is because it's garbled in the logic window.
Logic seems ot support only files of 31 characters or less.
This I know from trying to save a file with more than 31, logic will tell you it can't do
it and to name yoru song (or audio take) with less characters.
To see this garble file name syndrome, simply import the file " 2- Downtempo Mellow Piano 02.aif"
(or any file with more than 31 characters) and then save that logic Song file, quit logic.
Launch Logic and open that logic Song file and in the Audio window the name
of that audio file will have chaged to this...
" 2- Downtempo Mellow#CA4D7.aif"
However, luckily logic did find the file on it's own somehow.
This is on a MBP OS 10.4.10, no external files.
Now shorten the file name to 31 characters and do the above again.
Logic then does not change the file name in the audio window. -

I recently upgraded a few bits to my Dell studio 5 which is somewhat of it's age now. I put a solid state in, upped the RAM and also installed windows 8.1.
The machine has been running a treat, almost as though it was a new beast, however this has been at a price. Elements within Photoshop now do not work such as the 3D elements and paint brush tip preview amongst a few other things, however the 3D elements not working is a problem. As a designer, its quite important I have these features working, but since my upgrades and enhancements its cost me. I have been on the ATI website (Now AMD) and downloaded a fair few versions of the drivers for my ATI Radeon 4500. I even installed the new patch for windows 8 but to no avail.
I am wondering if anyone has had this issue and got around it. I have read loads of different forums and tried all sorts of installs but its still not working.
Give me a shout if you have beat this annoying issue

I recently installed Lion on my Macbook Pro. I have been using Quickbooks 2010 for all of my business accounting needs. However, I recently created an invoice which I tried to print and found nothing but a 'blank' screen with an OK buttong. After searching online, there are reports that this is consistent to what other people are getting and Intuit is saying that they are not supporting Quickbooks 2010 with Lion. Can anyone help? I really don't want to upgrade to QB 2011.

How can I uninstall OS X Lion and go back to Snow Leopard?
1: Copy your user file folders (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music, not Library) to a external blank Disk Utility formatted HFS drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect all drives. Make a note of your username and hard drive name. Write down any essential information like passwords stored in keychains and product serial keys.
2: Stick the 10.6 installer disk into the machine and reboot holding the c key down. Second screen in choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
3: On the left select the hard drive makers name of your internal boot drive (important) then click Erase and Erase... button (if you want to wipe the drive of all lingering data then choose Security Option>Zero all data) when choosing a name for the drive, use the same drive name as before.
4: Quit and install 10.6, then go through setup, reboot and use the same user name as before. Software Update, install programs from fresh sources (enter any serial keys) Hold Option and click on Purchases in AppStore to redownload (not Lion of course) and then finally return user files to their respective folders on the Snow Leopard drive.
5: If you have issues with iPhoto, you can right click on the iPhoto Library and "Show Package contents" and in there is a folder with all your originals. Copy them out and delete the iPhoto Library and reboot, restart iPhoto and it should be recreated, which you can then import your copied originals again.
Note: using the same drive and user name as before, returning files exactly into their respective Music, Documents and Pictures folders like before matches any pathnames some files like iTunes has to the location of your files. If not done, then exclamation points will occur in iTunes when you click on a song. The iTunes Library will have to be opened in Text Edit and all the partial pathnames "find and replace" corrected to repair.
Optional, but recommended.
Ideally it's best to first Carbon Copy Cloner the 10.7 internal to another blank external HFS drive (Disk Utility) before doing the above steps 1-5 as that way you have a copy of everything in case you missed something or you need to hold option boot from the 10.7 clone. The clone can later be erased and used as a 10.6 clone. Or reversed cloned back onto the internal drive or as many external drives as needed. (don't use a clone on a different Mac)
Clones are hold option key bootable, TimeMachines drives are not.
Note: The above steps are ONLY for Mac's that didn't come with Lion preinstalled. For reverting a factory Lion to Snow Leopard requires other methods. -

Has anyone got a workaround for the iTunes 12 sorting movies bug?
I have movies in various playlists in my iTunes 12.0.1 library with various metadata and nice artwork added.
When selecting sort by 'Genre', 'Sort Albums by Title' or sort by 'Albums' then 'Sort by Title' (both of these sorting options to enable browsing using the artwork) the movies are not sorted by title.
They are sorted by 'director' metadata, which is not my intended outcome. It looks like iTunes is treating movies like music and sorting by artist/director.
Even adding 'sort name' doesn't fix this. Does anyone know a workaround to this?

Does anyone know how to change where incoming (via mail) calendar requests go on my MacBook? Mine insist on going to Entourage, which I don't use any more. I've tried setting the default calendar in iCal preferences. Doesn't help. Bugs me. Can you help?

The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter? -
I found a bug in Power Query. Anyone know why this occurs?
It took some time to isolate the cause of this.
One of our SharePoint sites couldn't successfully be connected to with Power Query for Excel 2013. We would receive this message: "DataSource.Error: OData: The feed's metadata document appears to be invalid."
I made a site template and started making copies of the failing site in order to test the cause of the error.
I narrowed it down to 16 lists that, if present on the site, would cause the connection to fail. Those lists' names were simply numbers. For example: "1", "2", etc.
I noticed in the Listdata.svc feed for the site that only the choice columns were included in the metadata and not the single line of text column names. In Listdata.svc, it appends a "c_" in front of the both the list and choice column
names if the list name starts with a number.
After many tests I believe I have confirmed you cannot start the name of a list with a number IF you have a choice column in that list. Anyone know why this is?Hi,

After wacthing a video for a while, my screen usually goes like this :
This usually happens after a few minutes, but it happens a lot faster when I watch at 720p compared to 360p.
I even tried formatting my pc to resolve this issue, but that didn't work.
Does anyone know what might help?

This is Ravindra Jassal from Mumbai, India. I had the similar problem and SOLVED IT !!! by taking following steps:
1) Installed latest version of Firefox.
2) Opened a youtube video IN FIREFOX and played the video in NORMAL MODE (not Fullscreen mode)
& paused it after 5 seconds.
3) Then I went to the DESKTOP & right clicked on SCREEN to see SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS mode.
4) I clicked on it & I saw PLUGINS HOLDER set to HIGH PERFORMANCE mode.
5) I clicked on HIGH PERFORMANCE mode to change it to POWER SAVING MODE. Then clicked Apply.
And voila, all my problems with Flash Player got solved.
Flash Player started working fine BOTH in IE9 & FIREFOX.
I assure you, try it for once & you will get the result.
This msg is for entire Adobe Community using Accelerated Graphics Cards & having problems with Flash Player 10.3

Does anyone know when Apple is going to fix the bug with transfering voice memos from the IPhone 4 to itunes on a computer. I waisted a lot of time trying to figure out why it was not working. Then I read some comments about other people having the same issues.

I'm using a late 2006 2.33GHz imac.
I clean installed 10.6 from disc then updated to 10.7 from download.
Now every time my computer goes into sleep it won't wake up.
The only way it will restart is to pull the mains lead out of the imac, put it back and try until it will start.
This only happened after reinstalling. Only Apple OS was on the imac and so it must be an issue with the software I believe.....
Anyone know how to cure this problem please?

paulThis isn't a fix, more a workaround I used when I had wake from sleep problems that lasted from some point in 10.6.x, through 10.7 and into 10.8 (got fixed for me in 10.8.2). It seems to be connected with Bluetooth failing to wake up properly:
System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'. -

There have been a few threads about this. The feature seems to have gone missing in Mountain Lion even though the Help for Preview still mentions it.

Anyone know how to keep accounts offline in Mac Mail?

I use Mac Mail for business and personal accounts. I'm trying to prevent myself from getting distrated with personal email while I'm working, but I want to be able to recieve emails to my business account. So I take my personal accounts offline, and just keep my business account online when I'm working. But the problem is if I click the Get Mail button it takes all my accounts back online. Anyone know, is this a bug or is there some way around this? I can click on the mail box and select Syncronize account, but would be easier if I could just click the Get Mail btn without taking all the accounts online....
