P2p crashing my wrt54gs v7

Just added a wrt54gs v7 to my cable broadband.  wireless internet works great untill i start my p2p software.  I'm using emule morph xt.  I've owned two previous dsl gateways with routers - an actiontec and a 2wire.  after setting up the port fowarding it was basically plug and play from there - i never dropped a connection.  with the linksys i seem to be able to stay connected to a server for about 20 minutes.  then the router crashes.  in a couple cases, the router would no longer recognize either my desktop or laptop and i had to reset to factory settings and reload linksys easy link to get any connection at all.
THE PROBLEM IS:  intermitant connection to the router
POSSIBLE CAUSES RULED OUT:
router placement
corrupted firmware
port foward setup wrong
other wireless interferance
QUESTION: I have logging diabled on the router - how is the cache filling up, why, and how do i prevent it?
-thanks to anyone who can enlighten me with any information on getting my router to handle a heavy workload - magneticorth

If you had already resetted the router ... power down the router ... for few seconds then power it up ... Check the light status ... & let me know ...
Also if the Power light is still very dim...Possibly the router is gone bad ....

  • Wrt54gs loses internet connection when using P2P Ares

I have a wrt54gs v5 and I've installed the latest firmware and reset back to factory then reconfigured.  Whenever Ares is started all other computers (wired or wireless) lose their inet connection.  Within 2-5 minutes of stopping Ares everything starts working again. I've checked Ares and it's set to am max of 10 connections.
I've hooked up my old befsx41 and it works fine but I need the wireless.  Both of these are talking to a befcmu10 cable modem.  I've never had problems with linksys before but from what I'm seeing on the forums the wrt54xxx doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the oldser stuff. Anyone know of any specific versions that fix this?
(Mod Note: Edited for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

Since your BEF works with P2P, why don't you simply convert your WRT into a WAP (wireless access point).  This way you will use the wireless of the WRT, while using the BEF to handle all the routing chores.
To do this, setup the BEF as your primary router.
Then wire one computer to port 1 (not the Internet port) on the WRT.  (Note:  Disconnect everything else from the WRT at this time.)
Then in the WRT do the following:
    Turn off the DHCP server.
Set the "Local IP address" to 192.168.1.2  (assuming no other device on your network is using this fixed LAN IP address, and assuming the BEF is set to use the 192.168.1.x  address space.)
Save your settings.  Power down the WRT.
Next, connect any numbered port on the WRT to any numbered port on the BEF.  Do not connect anything to the Internet port on the WRT.
The BEF will control your router settings (DHCP server, port forwarding, etc.)
The WRT will control your wireless settings.
Please let me know whether this setup allows your P2P to work properly.

  • WRT54G v. 2.2 crashing

    Hi,
My WRT54G v. 2.2 is crashing when I try to download large amounts of data (videos from my KISS harddisk recorder).
    I have installed latest firmware - v4.30.5
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
    Best regards,
    Anders Thingholm

Hi… If you had upgraded the router, Reset the router and reconfigure it. Enable QoS and set the priority for video download for lower that HTTP. This make sure whenever there is a request for http traffic, router will handle that before the video download. There is nothing to worry about video downloads as the bandwidth consumed by HTTP is very less so router will finish the HTTP request in ms (Milli Seconds) and  return to video downloads

  • WRT54G v8 dies under heavy p2p

My new WRT54G v8 has been dying consistently under heavy p2p use. My friend and I often use p2p file sharing and bittorrent clients.
One of us at a time seem to be able to use it with p2p apps, but once more than one of us start searching/downloading, the router dies.
    After it dies:
    - local network connectivity remains connected for PCs with static IPs
    - DHCP will not release/renew for other machines.
    - internet connectivity dies for all machines though the modem remains connected to the service provider.
    - the web interface for the router becomes inaccessible.
All machines are wired. We are not using wireless yet Wireless is enabled, but password secured. Nobody outside my home is sharing it.
We can limit the number of connections for bittorrent, but other p2p apps are unable to limit the number of inbound/outbound connections.
I find a large number of similar complaints on other forums, and there is no open-source firmware or new linksys firmware update available for the v8 yet.
Anyone had luck adjusting settings on the V8 to avoid these problems?

You could setup those computers on P2P for the QoS option on the router. Just simply get the ports of the P2P applications, fill them in on the QoS, then set them to low. That way the router will prioritize normal web applications vs P2P applications.

  • Playstation 3 Wireless Network Enable Crashes WRT54G Wireless Router

I am trying to set up my wireless connection on my Playstation 3 via my WRT54G wireless router.  Whenever I start at the beginning and select Enable for Wireless Connection, the wired end of my router which is attached to my cable modem crashes.  My host wired PC loses it internet connection.  As I proceed with my Playstation 3 Wireless Network setup, the PS3 can still wirelessly see my router.  I do an automatic configuration, but the router is unable to assign a TCP/IP address to the PS3.  My main problem is that the PS#crashes my router the moment I even enable the wireless connection.  Any ideas?

I don’t think of anything else that a Firmware on this router. Download the latest firmware for this from http://www.linksys.com/download and Upgrade that to your router. Reset and reconfigure it, reduce the MTU to 1365, assign a static IP on PS3 and forward the ports needed by PS3 for this IP address. Now you should able to connect to this router wirelessly.

  • WRT54G crashes every 5-10 mins when in use

My WRT54G crashes every 5-10mins when in use, I cannot finish a download nor keep a constant connection. Usually it just times out for a second or two and recconects (freezing your downloads or anything), but sometimes it just stops alltogether and requires me to unplug/replug the Router and Modem, sometimes it needs a total PC restart alltogether. I am wired into to it, not wireless, but it happens to the wireless connection as well. What is the deal? I can never manage to finish a download over 35mb, or run an online application. How can this be fixed?
Thank you for your concerns.Message Edited by Nethros on 07-05-2006 07:50 AM

  • Linksys WRT54G setup crash.

    Hi,
Today I wanted to install my Linksys WRT54G for a wireless network.
But when I tried to install the driver from the CD, the program crashed.
This was during the: 'Getting program information.'
I tried several times but everytime the program crashed at 14%.
On a other computer it worked till 99% but then stopped because I didn't have the WRT54G hooked up.
I really hope you can help me!
    Joost
Ps. I had the program on the computer, but I had to defrag it.
Edit. I have the 5.0 Version

  • WRT54G v5 Crashing

I have a WRT54G version 5 router.  It is running the lasest firmware, 1.02.8.  It seems that the router crashes and drops all connections.  I can't seem to find out why it crashes.  Any ideas on how to debug this?  I have 4 laptops,iPhones, iTouches, psps, and an HP printer 6180.  This biggest issue is the hp priner does not reconnect and I can't print.  I have to either turn the printer off and then back on or turnn the printer's radio on then off.  I have tried resetting the router and restoring the configuration and I have tried resetting re-entering all information back into the router.  The client lease time is set to 9999.
    Thanks for any help,
    John

I have one computer connected directly to the router.  I assumed that the router crashed and then restarted because if I look at the DHCP Active table I will see all my computers and other devices.  If I look a day or two later, the computers and devices don't show up.  In particular the HP printer does not show up since it does not renew it ip address regularly (at least that is what I have noticed).  Remember my ip address expiration time is set to 6+ days.  Because of this I would expect to see it always in the DHCP Active table.
I have my router connected to an ups so, always remains up.

  • WRT54G Ver 7 with P2P application

I searched over the Internet for a long time and found that the following facts (problems) on WRT54G Ver 7 with P2P application:
    1. No maximum connection port can be configured from the factory firmware.
    2. Router hang when maximum connection port reached.
    2. No custom firmware like DD-WRT or Tomato can be used in Ver 7.
    3. No available official firmware update yet.
Conclusion: Nothing can be done except giving up those applications.
Please correct me if any wrong

  • WRT54G v6 crashes when I try to add a new pc

    I have a WRT54G v6 running 1.02.8 Firmware.
We just picked up a new laptop, and when we try to access the wifi, it crashes the network. None of the other devices can access it.
I have been reading around, and am wondering about resetting the router to defaults, but I don't see any firmware updates available for it on the download page.  We updated it several years ago because of a device that wasn't working, and I'm concerned if I go back to defaults I may lose one of my other devices.
    Thoughts or suggestions?

Will the other devices connect to the network if the new laptop is connected? If that's a yes, try enabling the QoS. Try also connecting the laptop to another network to further isolate the situation. If you can still access the setup page, verify the wireless password of the network. It might've been changed if you've connected the new laptop using the WPS feature.
There's no new firmware available for this router but for me, resetting it is necessary as that will help you confirm if the router is faulty. Press the reset button for 10 to 15 seconds and do a reboot before reconfiguring it.
If the same thing happens and all devices won't connect to the network, now must be the time for you to upgrade to one of the latest routers.

  • MBP crashes WRT54GS wireless router

I have a new MacBook Pro, which I can't get to work with my wireless router, a LinkSys WRT54GS. In my debug of the problem, I tried cabling the MBP directly to my DSL modem which works fine. Then I cabled the MBP to the WRT54GS (which is cabled to my DSL modem). After 2-3 minutes of switching between various websites (using Safari), the connection goes down, and the wireless router is dead - it must be power cycled to recover. The WRT54GS has always worked (wired and wireless) with our Dell XP laptops. Since I'm seeing the router crash when connected via ethernet cable, it's not a wireless (AirPort) issue, but must be something IP related. Anyway, others are seeing this also (see http://forums.macnn.com/92/networking/305303/mysterious-crashing-with-linksys-wr t54g/). Any suggestions?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Safari Browser

My MBP is also crashing the router, Mines a netgear 108mps I have tried everything, disabled every feature, on both the laptop and the router, dropped its speed to the slowest possiable upgraded to the latest firmware everything. I'm sick of this. I'm heading to the Apple store right now and buying an airport extreme, and see if I have problems with it also. if so, then I'm going to have them replace the hardward in my laptop. I have written more about this in other threads and it's not limited to just my router but local hotspots freeze if I try to use them... this is an issue with the laptop for sure, but I don't want apple to try and use the excuse that I'm mixing hardware hence the proble.. I'm going to try using all their stuff and finish the testing that way. Sad that we have to deal with this. I have also updates all the drivers on the MBP so everything as current as it could be.. will keep everyone posted.

  • Win XP SP3 PC wired to WRT54G router repeatedly crashes

I have a Win XP SP3 desktop that is wired (not wireless) to WRT54G router  (v 3.0 router with latest firmware version 4.21.1).
The PC repeatedly freezes when I connect to internet using IE or Firefox and has to be re-booted using power button. The following are the 2 error messages from Event Viewer:
    1) The AEGIS Protocol (IEEE 802.1x) v3.1.6.0 service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified -  netevent.dll. Source of the error is Service Control Manager
    2) The PCASp50 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified - netevent.dll. Source of the error is Service Control Manager.
    Other details:
    1) Vonage adapter also connected to router
    2) This PC used to be connected to same router via a wireless-G adapter WUSB54G. That has been disconnected, Linksys software uninstalled and PC is now wired to router. The problem used to happen at that time also.
    3) Router is setup with WPA-PSK security with TKIP and mode G-only.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am at my wit's end.

I also would like to suggest that you download and experiment with another browser, Google Chrome or Opera and see if they are affected also. Their installation may refresh or reload the missing dll's.

  • WRT54G Crashing my computer

My computer keeps getting the blue screen of death after about 15 minutes of having it on while connected. It is a driver error of some kind and I don't know what to do. Should I upgrade the firmware?

' Blue Screen Of Death '  may occur due to your Windows
Registry Problems. Microsoft Windows Registry is a central
hierarchical database used in Microsoft Windows 9x, Windows
CE, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 used to store information
necessary to configure the system for one or more users,
    applications and hardware devices.
Windows Registry is where all the information about your
computer is stored. The registry includes installation data about
the software you run and all of your computer's preferences,
    settings, and registry keys.
Everything about your computer is essentially stored in
    your windows registry. .
Your PC is likely infected with Windows registry errors
if it has ever went through any of the problems:
PC runs much slower than when you first bought it
PC keeps crashing at critical times
Unable to remove a software using add/remove dialog
    PC doesn't shutdown correctly
    PC doesn't startup correctly
    PC needs frequent rebooting
So, it's highly recommended that you keep in

  • MacBook Pro crashes my Linksys WRT54G router

I've seen this issue been mentioned as a post in another thread, but I wanted to open a post specifically about this.
When I connect wirelessly to my Linksys WRT54G v6 router (using no encryption), it eventually brings down my router (usually within 5-10 minutes) and becomes unresponsive. I can't access the web admin interface, and other computers connected to the router lose their internet connection as well.
    I've tried the following:
    - Upgraded the Linksys firmware to the latest version
    - UP-to-date on Apple Software update (Mac OS X 10.4.8)
    - Set the wireless beacon interval to 50
    - Turned off the weather widget
    - Set MTU lower
    - Pinging a remote location every 8 seconds (using ping -i 8 www.google.com)
Anyone have a similar problem? Anyone found a solution?
MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Well Zebra1, some of us are cost-conscious and have
existing setups at home we'd like to leverage.
I think that most of us on this message board would concur.
Maybe I'm just not worthy enough to join the
Apple-snob crowd because I can't blindly spend close
to $200 for something that can be had for less than
half the price (and already paid for)
This is my only gripe with these boards - folks seem to recommend the most expensive solution, and then slam those who recommend less expensive, but still practical, solutions (especially if they are non-Apple). Logically, it makes no sense, but the more expensive option seems to almost always be the one recommended.
Airport extreme base stations may be nice, but they are not without their problems (check the networking section on these boards); it's hard to justify the expense just to get a white box with an Apple logo on it, especially when functionally equivalent routers are available at 1/2 to 1/3 the price.
I'd hardly call Linksys a "two-bit" company. The WRT54G router is one of the most popular WiFi routers out there, and was rock-solid stable for many years. Apple should strive to make sure that their wireless products interoperate well with these devices, due to their popularity. Plus, a bit of a reality check here: even if a person gets an Airport Express base station at home, they won't have one at work, at school, at the coffee shop, etc.
When a $2000 laptop doesn't work with a wireless router that works with every PC laptop in the company, it isn't the router that gets criticized, it's the Mac.
As for alternatives, Apple is hardly the only solution; my D-Link DIR-625 works flawlessly with all of my computers, including my Macs, and I paid < $50 US for it. You need to add more than a USB port and Apple logo to justify that extra $150 US.

    BlackBeltDobie ,
Hi there propbably you need to uninstall and re-install your internet browser, cause the opera browser is already working...  So it only means that there is something wrong with your internet browser, not with the router.
