P35 based system powers down, then restarts

Hi
An annoying fault has just started on my machine. Once the system has booted up, the PC will run quite happily for a period of time then suddenly  pc just stops as if the power has been pulled, then after a second or so, the pc restarts.
The frequency of this is erratic. It can happen during boot up, be on for a good while, or happen as the pc has finished booting.
I have sort of ruled out it being a windows issue as I decidied to look in the BIOS, and while in BIOS it happened.
Any ideas?

I have 4 sticks of ram installed. This PC has run for 1 year without any probs.
Why would this ram configuration cause this problem
I was thinked that its new configuration.
Have you checked CPU cooling system?
Done new fresh OS installation?
It could be PSU failure too.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A fails to print until powered down and restarted.

This problem has arisen after about a year of giving good service.  Although it says "Now Printing," it does not print until powered down or disconnected and restarted or reconnected for each print job.  I will be most grateful for any suggestions for fixing this.

    Hi @jmuravchik
Do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause.   Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector
In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector
^ This is not limited to Laserjet printers.
Also, running the Print and Scan Doctor might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:

Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.

If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • My MacBook keeps shutting down, then restarting, endlessly

    Hello,
    Posting from my phone. :(
Have reviewed all related questions but nothing sends to help this situation.
For no apparent reason, my Mac shuts down and attempts to restart. This happens whether any programs are running or not, and regardless of whether I am even touching the computer. It has happened when I have been working, or in the other room. When it attempts to restart and fails, I have to hold down the power button, wait, then turn it ok again.  The restarts were only every few days but frequency had increased now to every few minutes!
What can I do, and what could be the problem? I am out of warranty.
Context is relevant: two months ago my old battery died, and the fan was ticking loudly and always on. Brought her to the Apple geniuses at the local store. They were to take my laptop for an hour to replace the fan and battery. When I came back in an hour, my hard drive, which I had installed myself a year ago but had had no problems till then, had inexplicably failed. They could not restart. I went home to pick up my backup drive. They restored my computer there in the store, and put in a new hard drive, gratis, along with the new fan, which I paid for. Something about their anxious behavior and how long all this took suggested something else went wrong, but I could not ascertain what, exactly.
When I got home, everything seemed ok till my computer randomly shut down and restarted twice. This picked up in frequency over the past two months, and you know the rest of the story, except this:
When I opened up my Mac, under the battery, my warranty sticker had been partially peeled off presumably by a Genius, and was sticking up. This was a month ago.  Yesterday I took out the hard drive and held a flashlight to the inside. There were little bits of glue-balls rolling around, which I picked out, and a random orange wire sticking up. One of the little rubber tracks that support the drive is missing, but this has been the case for a year, with no problem. The glue-balls and the wire, however, were new additions.
I am a student trying to graduate, pending on whether I can finish typing my final papers....
    HELP?!
    Thank you!

Try Apple Hardware Test - you need your original system installation DVD. Insert the DVD, and reboot while holding the D key.
If it is randomly rebooting due to a hardware fault, AHT might not even run. With all the detritus inside your MacBook that you describe, anything is possible.

  • Macbook Pro shuts down, then restarts every few hours

    Hello,
I have a new Macbook Pro Retina 15"
    OS X 10.9
Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1024 MB
A week ago I spilled some water on my macbook. I was able to wipe it off quickly, and shut down the mac. I let it dry for 24 hours. I then started it back up and it worked fine for the next few days. I'm not sure what's happening now is connected to this incident. I think it most likely isn't.
Today, my Mac randomly shut down on it's own in the afternoon. I didn't know if this was overheating, or RAM or what. I didn't know if it also had to do with how many files I was downloading as I don't have much space on my mac.
I connected it to power, opened it back up and it worked. Then I took off the charger, and went back to where I was. After a few hours this happened again. It shut down on its own. I should note that during this the Macbook didn't display a message of "Your macbook restarted because of a problem." It just shut down and restarted.
This happened again 3 times. I checked the System Diagnostic Reports, and I could not see any Kernel panics. I have no idea where this is coming from. Please help.

    Hello,
Thanks for your quick response. I have checked the software, and its status read that my Mac will never shut down automatically. I have since deleted the software and all its related files, but still have the problem.
I took your advice about checking background processes as well, however, and using Activity Monitor saw one called 'task3runnerLE.' When I stop this from running I can download again without the Mac shutting down. So far so good! Problem is that when I reboot the computer ‘task3runnerLE’ is running again, and the Mac tries to shut down automatically after downloading. I could of course manually stop task3runnerLE from running each time I switch on the Mac, but I’d prefer to stop it from running at all. Any idea where this might have come from? (My guess is Mac Shutdown).

  • Powering Down on Restart

I did a rare restart on my Mac Mini. It would start to come back up and then power off. It did this four or five times before comming back up. Each time there would be a progress bar that would progress all or part way to completion before it disapeared and then powered off after a few seconds. I had done a shut down and power up earlier in the day without issue. Prior to the restart, I installed a LaCie 2Big RAID via Thunderbolt and moved a few hundred GB of files to it. I also had a couple of crashes after I first installed it. I'm concerned it's the cause of my problems. Any idea why a restart would power off part way through?

A follow up on this problem. I had it happen a second time. When the OS finally came back up both times, one app complained of a crash and another took more time to come up than usual indicating it might be recovering as well. Today, I closed all my apps and then did a restart. It came back up normally. Either the OS fixed itself on the prior restart or an app is causing a problem. Is there any log information to look at? I'll try closing apps selectively before retarting to see if I can find the problem assumming it is an app.

  • System shuts down and restarts without saving data

Hi, I've had my MacBook Pro for over 2.5yrs and have almost no issues with it until recently.
This morning when I sat down to work my system kept shutting down on its own every 25-30mins and would restart too. I keep losing all my data and kept having to start over. This has never happened before.
    Pls help!
P.S.: I dont know if this info helps, but I just started using my new 85W MagSafe charger, since my old charger conked off recently. The charger seems like its original except I had to connect it to my old adapter since the new charger's head doesnt fit into any of my available switch boards.  Oh and the left side of the laptop and (the box part of) the charger very quite hot when the system switched off.
I read in one of the Apple discussions that it maybe a hardware issue and to run a hardware diagnostic test at start up. But although i tried to run the test by pressing and holding 'D' key before the grey screen appears at startup, nothing seemed to happen and the system started up normally.

It's possible that the new charger is defective or that the magsafe board in the computer itself is failing. You said your old charger failed, what made you think so?
The easiest thing to do is take both the MBP and the charger into the Genius Bar if you can. The eval is free. If it's the charger, they'll replace it. If not, at least they can tell you what the problem is. This is a genuine Apple charger, right?

  • Problem running PSE 11 after system unexpected system shut down and restart

Computer lost power during photo upload in PSE 11 organizer. after restarting cannot open program. Tried reinstall of program still same issue. Help?

    Hi,
You may have a corrupt catalog.
I would first try to repair and optimize your catalog.
Load the organizer while holding down the shift key - that should open the Catalog Manager.
Select you current catalog and click on the Repair button
When that has finished, click on the Optimize button
When that is done, click on the Cancel button to close the Catalog Manage
Which operating system are you running on?

My iPhone will not allow me to use the slide feature. I have restarted the phone several times. any suggestions?

Try rebooting.  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPhone should restart.  See if you can use it when it comes back up.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
Try This - Renew IP Address:
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

  • Keep losing network connection... I have to continually shut down then restart to get network connection.

We have 2 computers and Apple TV that will be connected to internet while my iPod loses its connection.  It seems to happen after it goes to sleep for a while like a half hour or so, haven't actually timed how long. But I won't get iMessage notifications. As long as I am actively checking my gmail or texting or searching internet I don't lose connection, just after it sits for awhile.
