P35 boot from lan

I try to boot from LAN but I can’t. I receive this error: PXE:61 Media test failed check cable.  I enable “wake up from LAN” option from network adapter properties and it boot from LAN normally without error messages. Why this happen? I want to boot from LAN on clean system. Is there solution?
M/B: P35 Platinum
BIOS veer:1.1

in bios i set the realtek boot agent as first boot device. I have 3 pc with the same configuration one of them has already installed windows XP SP2. The other two are clean. (I want to transfer image from server to my clients).

  • Boot from LAN using Wireless Adapter

I have one Cisco Wireless PCI Adapter. Does it have a feature like PXE BootROM in NIC, so I can boot from LAN using wireless adapter?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. At issue would be the necessary setup for things like SSID.
Maybe in the future; many motherboards & chipsets are including Wireless NICs, they would need to provide some setup in the BIOS to configure the basic communication parameters necessary to establish the Layer one / Layer two link.

  • Toshiba tecra a11-17c refusing to boot from LAN

    Hello
I am working on a Toshiba tecra a11-17c. We currently have about 18 of the same laptop and the person who originally built the computers has left the office we are currently working at.
The issue I am have is that I  want to boot the computer from lan and do a windows 7 installation on the laptop but I keep getting the error "Media test failure, check cable"
I know the cable is working because I was able to build a Toshiba satellite pro l20 perfectly fine
The other Toshiba tecra a11-17c laptops have the same issue when trying to rebuild them too
I am fully able to log into a Toshiba tecra a11-17c and connect to the internet via the same network cable and port when in windows.
I have also tried to swap the hard drive with a different tecra a11-17c but it just kept getting a blue screen as soon as the windows flag appeared.
I then tried a format of the hard drive and a reset to default of the bios settings as suggested in a different forum.
I then tried to clone a fully working hard drive from a different fully working tecra a11-17c and it just dose the blue screen as stated above.
I then used an old windows XP recovery disk for the tecra a11-17c it did the build fine no issues then when it came to build to windows but as stated above it just dose a blue screen the same as windows 7.
Now I have no idea what to do but to believe it is something Toshiba has done with the tecra a11-17c range because its the same issue for all 18 of the tecra a11-17c laptops I have here.
Any way I am at a loss and have no idea what to do it seems to be something as simple as the network card need to be turned on during the boot phase but I can not find anything in the bios.

I'm sorry but I have no experience doing what your attempting to do.  However, for your information, this site is for U.S. models only and I would suggest you also post in the appropriate regional Toshiba Support forum to get better suggestions.  Good luck

  • Satellite P cannot boot from CD & PXE-E61 Media Test failure

No bootable CD in ATAPI - CD ROM message on power up.
Also displays PXE-E61 Media Test failure, check cable. PXE - M0F: exiting PXE ROM.
    Bad feeling about this.
Can you confirm my worst suspicions please.

    Hi
In most cases the HDD is dead and you will need to replace this.
The PXE Media Test failure message appears because the unit ties to boot from LAN.
I think you tried to boot from the disk but the disk was not readable and the unit switched to HDD.
But the HDD is not bootable and therefore the notebook tries to boot from LAN.

  • Toshiba A85-S107 not booting from CD/DVD

i have a toshiba a85-s107 (my father's in fact)...the original cd/dvd drive used to boot from CDs, now it got faulty and it struggles to reads some CDs and cant read the others...so i removed the drive of my other laptop (compaq presario v5000, which works fine) and put it in the toshiba, now i can see the drive in "my computer" and the lable changes when i insert a desk, i can even eject the cd but can't read what is on the cd, when i double click on it nothing happens and i can't boot from the cd either. i borrowed a cd/dvd drive from my friend (has hp pavilon, not sure which model) this drive works great under windows reads every thing and do every thing, and i still cant boot from the cd....now what is wrong????
ps: when the laptop starts i hit F12 and chose the cd/dvd as the boot device, but it just seems to ignore the command and goes right to hdd boot, tryed changing the boot sequence and it is the same, and if i disable all the boot devices but the cd/dvd it takes about one or two seconds trying to boot from cd (i gues as the screen is blank) and switches to booting from lan.
help please, i need to reinstall windows and i kind of stuck now.
    thanks in advance.

Not all CD and DVD drives work in Toshiba laptops.  Without the correct firmware in the drive it won't be properly recognized which results in it not working at all or with mixed results.  With that in mind you might not be able to boot from the optical drive from the Compaq or the HP.
You might want to try cleaning his original drive with a lens cleaner disk and/or compressed air to see if that gets it working like it should.
If that doesn't help you'll probably need to use an External Optical Drive to boot from or obtain an optical drive that has the proper firmware to work with a Toshiba.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR Won't Boot From CD

Just received my new board which aside from the problem, is fantastic! It's an MSI P35 Neo2-FR
I've got DVD drive to first in the boot sequence and it prompts me to press any key to boot from CD however when I press any key it just hangs on press any key. Got some advice from a friend and he told me to load optimized defaults however it doesn't make a difference.
    Help?

    Hello,
    Could be a few things.
Make a list of everything that you are using with the board so that we know what you have.
EG, look at the bottom of my post.
Do you have a floppy drive?
    http://www.memtest.org/download/2.01/memtest86+-2.01.floppy.zip
    - Extract all the files to a folder.
    - Run the install file and it will create a memtest boot disk for you.
    - Then boot from the floppy disk and let the program run for a while (4 hours+)
    - If it detects any errors instantly stop and report back here. (or try 1 stick at a time)
CD or USB versions available here.
    http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
But it is important that we know what else you are using with the board.
Could be a weak power supply or you are using different branded memory modules.
And did you plug all the power connectors into the board?
    - 24pin ATX
    - 8pin +12v EPS connector
    - Molex near the first PCIE x16 slot.
Just incase this thought has crossed your mind,
Do not attempt to the flash the BIOS until you know the system is 100% stable/working
Molex near PCI-E X16 slot? I didn't plug that in no. What's it for may I ask?

  • Satellite C850 - boot from DVD issue - want to replace Win8 with Win7U

Got a new C850-1JZ yesterday and am trying to replace pre-installed Win 8 with Windows 7. I did create the recovery media (3 DVDs).
The laptop is driving me "insane" as it seems to block any attempt to boot anything else other than Win8 on the preinstalled hdd.
1.) Inserted Win 7 Ultimate DVD and tried to boot, would not boot from disk.
2.) Loaded advanced boot menu and tried to boot from ODD, would not boot from disk it. (Options are LAN, USB, HDD, and ODD (assuming this is optical disk drive)
3.) Changed regular bios settings boot priority to boot from ODD first, then HDD, would not boot from disk.
4.) Learned there is a "security boot protection" mechanism enabled by default in the bios. Turned it off. Machine starts loading from ODD and says "Windows is loading files" then hangs. This is a MS original Win7 Ultimate disk from the Microsoft store, no scratches. Makes no sense. We actually have 2 of them, so I tried the other, same result.
5.) Thought screw that, let's just put the hard drive from the other computer (T61) in here then and do clean new setup another time. Replaced hdd with other sata hdd that has Win 7 ultimate installed and system configured. When booting from hdd, it says "No OS" found and reboots. When booting from ODD, it starts with windows is loading files again and then freezes.
What kind of other extra protection/virus blocker/stupid setting am I missing here? This is puzzling me. Thanks.

*Thanks as***, that solves the problem.*
After 10 days Toshiba Support in Germany came back with the same answer.
Basically it seems the UEFI Firmware has some reference to Win 8 or the original OS and key and boat loader that is checks, and you cannot load anything else until you disable it by:
    1) In the BIOS, disable "secure boot" mode
    2) In the BIOS advanced settings, switch from UEFI to CMS mode.
Then you should be able to install anything as the new OS.
Also, if you want to write down your product key / serial number , since it is not printed anywhere (e.g. no sticker on the bottom of the laptop) [Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit|http://belarc.com/free_download.html] is a good tool to retrieve this from the registry and write it down.
As far as I know it's "glued" to this particular hardware, so not portable, but it might be a good idea to write it down in case you lose the system recovery disk but would want to re-install it with the original serial number.

    hi Moh27,
Thanks for Using Lenovo community Forums!
Inside BIOS under boot tab you will find there UEFI Boot you will need to disable that
then u need to move the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD to number 1.
You can do that by highlighting the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD and pressing F5 or F6 to move it up
    -or-
Highlight the things on top of the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD then put them down still using the F5 or F6 to move them down, do it one by one till the USB HDD is on top.
Just make once you got the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD to 1 hit F10 to save and exit changes.
    Hope this helps,

  • Won't boot from USB or cd

Just bought Satellite C855d-S5100. Not really happy with windows 8 so trying to install windows 7 but having some problems.
When trying to boot in BIOS with either USB or CD first (both inserted with bootable), the boot goes directly into HDD and starts windows 8.
Tried F12 and select either USB or CD, doesn't work either.
Both CD and USB works fine in windows 8.
Tried CSM boot in boot order of
    USB
    ODD
    HDD
    LAN
and I get the error message of PXE-e61 wire disconnected.
    Any help will be apprecated.

Before you even start, consider that there may be no Windows 7 driver support for some of the hardware in your laptop. You won't know which hardware devices and functions are unsupported until you find out the hard way. In some cases, a driver conflict could cripple your computer.
Like most OEMS, Toshiba pre-installs Windows 8 to boot with EFI on a GPT hard drive. Your Windows 7 install disc, on the other hand, most likely boots with a BIOS from an MBR. Therefore, your Windows 7 disc will not boot your computer.
You would need to start by performing a low-level format of your hard drive. This completely erases the disc and its metadata. Then you could boot from your Windows installation disc and try to install Windows 7. How successful you will be depends on driver support.
All things considered, you should stay with Windows 8. Next time, more research before you buy.

    Hi,
I would be happy to help but I have one question first: Your configuration contains a lot of cruft generated from SDM/CCP and I am not sure if any of that is really required by you. Do you believe you would be fine with having this entire configuration trimmed down and do just what's supposed to do (routing and NAT), and we had security measures added in later? Just by the way, I do not believe you need the zone-based firewall. In your simple setup with just a few inside/outside interfaces, it does not add any real value apart from making the configuration virtually unreadable. We can easily do the same with IP Inspect.
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • How to boot from USB flash drive - Portege R500

    Hi,
I have a Portege R500 running Windows XP, brought about 2 years ago, and recently contracted a worm virus that has infected some of the start up files as the minute I log in it logs out again, even in safe mode! Quickest way I can think of sorting it is to reformat it with the XP recovery disc and reinstall windows.
Problem!! The CD/DVD drive on the laptop stopped working a while ago, have tried pretty much everything in the thread on this site but had no luck.
So my plan was to boot from a USB flash drive and do it that way. However in the boot settings I only have the options of HDD / FDD / CD-ROM / LAN, neither of these will work. Does anyone know how to boot from USB flash drives?
Any help would be really appreciated

    Hi
As far as I know it should be possible to boot from USB FDD
Im not sure if you would be able to boot from USB flash drive but its definitely worth a try
Generally you could try to press F12 button when notebook powers up.
Then a boot menu should appear on the display and you should see all bootable devices.
PS: As far as I know the USB booting was available in ToshibaHWSetup (Toshiba tool which changes the BIOS settings in windows OS.) Therefore I assume booting from USB should be possible.

  • How to boot from SD-card on Satellite Pro S300?

My windows 7 32bit based S300 has a build-in SD card reader. The Toshiba utility for making the SD card bootable comes with an error message stating Fault: 00-61-FF02-26.
Is does not see or recognize the card.
In the BIOS version 3.00 WIN there is also no possilility for booting from SD card.
The SD card can be formatted and you can read and write to the card.
    Why is this not possible?

As far as I know the BIOS of the Satellite Pro S300 supports the following bootable devices:
    - USB FDD,
    - Primary HDD,
    - ODD (or USB ODD),
    - Network(LAN),
    - SD-CARD,
    - USB Memory, supported at the same time
So BIOS provides the booting from SD card.
    You should try following way:
Insert the SD card in the SD card slot and then power up the notebook.

I have a W520, and I am trying to boot from a USB key. The USB key is bootable, my old T61p boots just fine from it, and so does another computer I tried.
The W520, after pressing F12 on power on, immediately shows the Intel PXE agent and then some blue boot menu, which only shows hard drive and LAN as available boot options.
I have tried all three USB ports but the results are always the same - the USB device does not show up. Is there any trick or BIOS setting to enable boot from USB?
    Thanks,
        CS

    Hello Neil
Thanks for getting back to me
The issue was that the usb drives were disabled in the bios from the  Startup menu.
    To enable
    1. Enter bios
    2. Select boot
    3. If you do not see the boot device you require use the down cursor key until the "Excluded from boot priority order" becomes visible.
    4. Select the device you require (in my case USB HDD)
    5. Save and exit.
You can now boot from a usb stick and install the Linux distro of your choice :-)
    Cheers

  • System won't boot from Windiws XP boot disk after setting up RAID 0 array???

After connecting my two Western Digital Raptor on SATA ports 1 and 2, and finally being able to launch the Bios option ROM "Intel SATA Raid manager" (had some problems associated with an LSI 4i megaRAID adapter in a pci slot), I was able to put the two disks in RAID 0. After exiting the Raid manager, the DMI pool was updated, and I was expecting the computer to boot from the XP installation boot disk in the optical drive. Instead I got the message: "Disc boot failure. Insert system disc and press enter.". This is very strange, as I installed XP earlier with the Raptors functioning as IDE drives without a problem (so IDE was selected in the BIOS for SATA drives instad of SATA as in this case). As a result I am unable to install Windows XP (professional).
    My system configuration:
    Motherboard: Platinum power up edition
    Bios version: W72461MSv7.3
    CPU: Intel Core2Duo 6700
Memory: Corsair, 2 GB in matched pair DDR 2, now on 2 volts
Harddrives: 2 western digital raptors of 150 GB in RAID 0
Optical drives: LITE-ON DVD-rewriter and reader from same brand (also DVD)
    PSU: Corsair 620 Watt
Now removed: LSI Megaraid 4i adapter (pci) with 4 Samsung spinpoint harddrives of 4 in raid 5
    XP professional
Boot sequence: CDROM, floppy and harddisk in this order
    BIOS settings:
    USB keybooard and mouse disabled
JMB361 option rom disabled (not using it)
Onboard lan boot rom disabled (not using it)
    Sata mode set to RAID
All other settings "optimal" using F7 in BIOS
Usinf F11 during startup doesn't help: the CDROM is not displayed in SATA mode, only floppy and harddisk.
Using Microsoft XP professional boot floppy's did'nt help either. System restarted after loading first floppy (ther are 6 in total), and no result.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
    Hans
