P35 Neo2-FR and VOIP card questions

Hi,
I'm evaluating buying this motherboard and would like to know a couple of things:
- Do all P35 Neo2-FR include ALC-888T codec instead of ALC-888? If not, how do I find out which ones do and which ones don't? I'm asking this because it clearly says "Optional" in the product web page, but it doesn't specify which ones have the ALC-888T codec
- If I understand correctly the only difference between ALC-888 and ALC-888T is VOIP card support, is this so?
- Has anyone tried using this MB with a VOIP card? How did it go? (Ease of installation, ease of use, sound quality, etc.)
- Are VOIP cards common? I just did a quick search at Newegg and I couldn't find any. Not a single one  ???
- I think the P35 Diamond MB comes bundled with a VOIP card. I guess the P 35 Neo2-FR DOESN'T come bundled with one, am I correct?
- If anyone has bought a VOIP card to use with this board, where did you buy it and approximately how much did you pay for it?
Any help GREATLY appreciated

Thanks everyone for your replies.

that's only P35 Platinum, not P35 Neo2-FR :(
city_zen, is VOIP a must-have feature for you?
No, not really a must-have feature, but it would be a very nice thing to have on my board. I'd definitely use it if it was in fact available (i.e. ALC-888T) and I can get a hold of a VOIP card. However, it's looking like that's not very likely to happen ... Oh, well ...
Anyway, this is a very good board even w/o the VOIP feature, so I'm still considering buying it.

  • Weird artefacts, mobo(P35 Neo2-FR) or gfx card problem?

Recently I was playing a game when some weird artefacts appeared on the screen before just completely freezing up.
    I rebooted and saw this:
The desktop/login screen was all ****ed up too (pardon my French!)
I ran ATI Tool and saw my gfx was 40'c which was about normal considering I was just playing a game so don't think the gfx had overheated.
    Then suddenly the PC froze.
Rebooted and got the same problems so I left it for several hours just in case it was overheating. (unlikely though since I've got plenty of fans, all of which are working and no alarms went off etc)
Few hours later, same problems but I noticed my IDE cable wasn't in all the way so I pushed unplugged/plugged it in and it worked fine!
Fast forward through 4 days of normal usage (although no games)  with no problems to today.
Left the PC for a while before coming back and seeing the screensaver was all screwed up and the desktop was running at a lower resolution that it should have.
Shut down and restarted but nothing showed up on the monitor (LCD via a DVI->VGA adapter) not even the POST or BIOS messages.
Tried my TV which has DVI and an image was displayed:
Managed to login but again it was all ****ed up.
So at first I thought it was my graphics card but after it started working again I'm not so sure.
BTW, all the parts are only 2-3 months old and have worked flawlessly together since I built the PC.
I haven't been able to try any parts in any other PC's as I don't know anyone with a PCI-E mobo or even anyone with a PCI gfx card (only AGP and onboard!)
What do you guys think is the source of the problem?
    Mobo (P35 Neo2-FR)
    gfx card (PowerColor HD3850)
    RAM (2gb geil Black dragon)
    Thanks

It's been working fine for the last few days now, until today of course when I have an important report due in!!!

I would suggest that you run the system under stress test with graphics intensive games and see how it goes for a week.
    I have done this.
I've run ATI Tool artefact scan for over an hour and got no errors.
Yesterday I was playing STALKER for several hours on high settings on my 1680x1050 monitor/TV via DVI and the other monitor connected via VGA showing ATI Tools and CPU temps.
No problems at all after a few hours gaming.
(I recorded all temp data to a log and the maximum temp reached was 56'c)
Today I was working on a uni assignment so I only had Word, Firefox and Winamp open and some horizontal artefacts appeared.(nowhere near as bad as the above photos though, it was more like specs and dashes)
I opened up ATI Tool and saw the GPU temp was 35'c.
Before I could do anything it froze but the music continued playing. It stayed like this for a few seconds before going black and the music stopped.
So playing games at hi res for several hours did nothing, but having word and firefox open seemed to trigger something and start messing up.
After several restarts (kept crashing at first) I managed to get into Windows (with artefacts similar to the first photo) long enough to recover my assignment and shut down.

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR and GeForce 8800GT?

    Hello,
I am interested in buying MSI P35 Neo2-FR motherboard, and also the latest GeForce 8800GT. But after doing some research I notice that many people have having problems installing their 8800GT card into motherboards with a PCI-E 1.0a slots, and the Neo2-FR has 1.0a slots! However there seem to be exceptions, some motherboards with 1.0a slots work with 8800GT!
    This is all very confusing
Can anyone verify that MSI P35 Neo2-FR motherboard and GeForce 8800GT (With PCI-E 2.0!) works in the 1.0a slot??
    Thank you.

According to many sources, both personal and documentary, PCI-e 2.0 cards will work in PCI-e 1.X slots(Wikipedia is not exactly what I would consider a super source). Here's a more official source, PCI-SIG.

Q4: It sounds as if both speed grades are supported in the PCIe 2.0 specification?
A4: The PCIe Base 2.0 specification supports both 2.5GT/s and 5GT/s signaling rates, in order to retain backward compatibility with existing PCIe 1.0 and 1.1 systems. Aside from the faster bit rate, there are a number of improvements in this new specification that allow greater flexibility and reliability in designing PCIe links. For example, the interconnect can be dynamically managed for platform power and performance considerations through software controls. Another significant RAS feature is the inclusion of new controls to allow a PCIe link to continue to function even when some lanes become non-operational.
Q5: Then PCIe 2.0 must be backward compatible with PCIe 1.1 and 1.0?
A5: Yes. The PCIe Base 2.0 specification supports both the 2.5GT/s and 5GT/s signaling technologies. A device designed to the PCIe Base 2.0 specification may support 2.5GT/s, 5GT/s or both. However, a device designed to operate specifically at 5GT/s must also support 2.5GT/s signaling. The PCIe Base specification covers chip-to-chip topologies on the system board. For I/O extensibility across PCIe connectors, the Card Electromechanical (CEM) and ExpressModule™ specifications will also need to be updated, but this work will not impact mechanical compatibility of the slots, cards or modules. Currently, the PCI-SIG is defining the PCIe CEM 2.0 specification which has been released to members for review at v0.5. There are currently no plans to adapt the PCIe Mini CEM specification for the faster bit rate as the market need has not yet materialized.

  • P35 Neo2/FR and Nostromo n52

I recently built a new system (x-mas present to myself)...
    P35 Neo2 / FR
    core2 duo E6850
    corsair xms2 2gig (twin2x2048-6400c4)
    western digital caviar HD 250gig
    lite on DVD burner
    XFX 8800gt
    XP pro with SP2C OEM
and I stuck it all in a coolermaster CM690 with extreme power duo 650W PS. I'm reusing my current input devices and monitor. I am not overclocking.
Everything works fine except for my Nostromo n52. I can install the latest nostromo drivers/software (version 3.2.4) and device manager shows everything installed and working, but as soon as I plug the N52 in any usb port I instantly get a blue screen BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER crash. One time I got DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I also tried using the older drivers that origionally came with the install CD with the same BUGCODE result. I tried reinstalling XP and chose the repair option thinking that might help but no luck. I downloaded/installed the latest drivers for the mobo from MSI website. The n52 works fine on the asus A7N8X setup that this computer is replacing so i know its functioning.
I though of trying to flash the BIOS to v1.6 since my mobo has v1.4, but I'm a bit reluctant to risk screwing it up being the bios descriptions of what was changed don't appear as though it would help my problem.
Any one run into a similar problem? I can live without my n52 if I have to, but after several years it feels odd not having it under my left hand. Any help/tips/tricks are welcome.

Here is the new situation which is actually the same old situation. I reformated my hard drive and reinstalled win XP pro (sp2). I then installed motherboard drivers and updated XP from windows update. Then I downloaded and installed the latest audio, ethernet, and INF drivers from the MSI website. I didn't install the raid drivers. I downloaded n52 drivers (3.2.4) from belkin website and installed them. I got the little blue icon installed in my system tray that I can use to open the loadout manager and launch editor for the n52. I then checked device manager for any new entries under HID/keyboard/mouse and there were none. I then plugged my n52 into a USB port and windows started giving me those little popup bubbles near the system tray stating new hardware is found. They pop up and disappear faster then i can write it all down, but the last one to popup was `nostromo n52 HID speed pad 2.0 mouse wheel` and then the system crashed to a blue screen BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER error. I then unplugged the n52 and rebooted. I booted to the desktop with the little blue icon still in the system tray. I plugged the n52 back in and DIDN"T crash. I checked device manager and under mouse I have `HID compliant mouse` listed twice, under keyboard I have `HID keyboard device` listed, and under HID I have `HID compliant game controler`, `nostromo n52 HID speed pad 2.0`, and ` nostromo n52 HID speed pad 2.0 mouse wheel` listed. Nothing was showing as being in conflict. I then loaded the game Lord of the Rings Online and played for 5 minutes with the nostromo seeming to work fine. I then logged out of the game and rebooted the computer. A few seconds after rebooting to the desktop the system crashed to BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. Now the computer crashes the instant i plug in the n52 or upon reaching the desktop if its already plugged in. At the moment i still have the n52 drivers installed but i have the device unplugged.
Yes Maesus, I have reformated and reinstalled XP twice in the last 2 weeks. The computer is only 2 weeks old
NovJoe, the only other USB devices I have are my mouse and a headset/mic I use for ventrillo. I can plug and unplug either of them into any usb port with no problems.
On a side note I noticed something that seems a bit strange but didn't think much of it. Is it normal for device manager AND My Computer to show floppy disk drive A: even though I have NO FLOPPY INSTALLED? This is the first computer I ever had that didn't have a floppy drive so I never would have noticed this before. Both entries will vanish if I disable floppy in the BIOS.

  • MSI Neo2 865PE and SCSI Controller Question

    Hi All,
Im new here so be easy on me
Anyways im currently building a new system P4 System based on the new 800FSB, i have all the parts ready, ie. CPU, DDR400 RAM, Case, Adaptec SCSI Controller, HDD etc etc, but believe it or not i havent purchased a motherboard yet. The reason being i want to get clarification that my setup will actually work with the motherboard before i go out and buy it. WHAT SETUP you ask, please read on
Now the reason im posting here is because from what i can see on the internet this is a really top notch board (best performer in the recent THG test) so naturally its one of the boards im considering.
Now to the my QUESTION: I want to use my SCSI drive connected to the Adaptec as the OS drive and boot from it. However my main concern is that the Neo2 865PE wont let me boot of the SCSI Hard Disk attached to the Adaptec SCSI 21960 controller. Ive been told that certain motherboards eg. ASUS wont detect a SCSI controller on boot up because it will only detect the onboard RAID controller as the SCSI controller, therefore not letting you use the SCSI disk at the boot device.
Can anyone ease my mind and tell me the MSI 865 Neo2 will let me do what i intend??? ie. Boot of SCSI disk.
    Any response/comments is appreciated
    Cheers

    Hi Domino,
Thanyou for testing the setup out for me.....
When you tested it did you have your onboard Intel S-ATA RAID controller enabled? because i believe this is where the problem will eventuate, when you enable the m/b's ONBOARD RAID controllers.
    Cheers

  • Power Supply and Graphics Card Question for HP Pavilion a6432p

    Hello!
I have the HP Pavilion a6342p, and I'm wanting to install an NVIDIA Graphics Card either 512MB or 1GB. However, I'm not sure what is the power supply to this model (most graphics cards are saying 300-350W supply required).
Can anyone tell me what is the power supply to this model, and what would be a good graphics card model to look at to upgrade my graphics card to with this model? I believe the expansion slots are PCI-Express, but I'm not sure on the power supply so I can get the right graphics card.
    Thanks!

[edit] err, the 9100 is an integrated video chipset.  Are you sure that's the correct number?
No the 9100 is not just an integrated video chipset and is available in both AGP & PCI form.
The Antec is a good PSU but I would recommend getting something better such as the OCZ or Enermax as they have a higher +12v rail amp.

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR and E2180 Overclock

Has anyone had any luck with an overclock with the above kit?
I' ve managed to post at 266 FSB and x10 Multi.
After about 3 hours of gaming I got a blue screen however. Not sure if it was the temps or something else.
    Anyone else with similar experience?

If you would really like some help you need to list your specs(see my sig for the info we need)
I ran a e2200 in a p35 neo-2-fr for awhile(basically the same chip except e2200 has a x11 multi) and had some pretty good success OCing it.However using anything over the x9 multi was very hard to get stable...Using x9 multi I was able to get a 24/7 stable OC @ 345x9(3105GHz) @ 1.3875v....x8 multi also gave me good success.
Keep in mind I use thermal electric water cooling and can get my coolant well below ambient temps so I never really run into a heat barrier until pushing the massive OCs.My load temps rarely pass 60c. Since you didnt list your temps I cannot say if thats your problem or not but I believe you can do much better.

  • P35 Neo2 FR + HD3870 in crossfire (questions)

    So...
right now i don't have a second card, but i have a 3870. I'm looking to buy a second card and run crossfire eventually...however, i'm a little confused about Crossfire, and the PCI-E x4 slot...
I'm sure that's what the second one is, however...will the slower speed result in the card not working in crossfire? or....will the PCI-E x16 slot speed be lowered?
does anyone else have crossfire running on this motherboard? and how is it? ._.
sorry if i'm not being clear, but i'm a little confused...
thank-you in advance for any help  !

hi, you can refer to this thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113087.0
Crossfire will still work even with the PCIe x4 slot

  • AE CS5 and Nvida Card - Question

I am thinking of upgrading to AE cs5 (the production suite) - I undestand that cs5 AE needs certain card to run the mercury engine 64 bit.
I have Nvida GTS240 with driver updated to ver 191.07 - Will this card work with the 64bit mercury engine?
    TIA
    John

    You misunderstand.
The Mercury playback engine is a set of features in Premiere Pro CS5. It has nothing at all to do with After Effects.
    See this page.
The graphics card is not very relevant for After Effects.

How does the media card really work?  I put in a 2gig card.  status shows 1.8,  Does the BB8320 use the extra space automatically?  Does it need to be formatted?  I do not see that the card is really being used.

  • K8T Neo2-F and graphics card

I have a AGP graphics card now but will this board support a PCI Express graphics card? What would be the best graphics card for this board? I have a Radeon 9550 8x 256mb now.

You board can work with standard PCI but not PCIExpress. Your best choice is AGP. Hopefully future Via based boards will come with PCI Exp[ress interfaces.

  • P35 Neo2 not booting with Crucial Ballistix PC8500 (2.2volts)

This is a psuedo overclocking issue, a mod can move it if need be.
So I got MSI's P35 Neo2 board and I'm frustrated with their whole package.  I install everything and get into Windows and was naive enough to consider running MSI's Live Update, which nuked all possibilities of me getting this to the person I was building it for before Christmas.  If this post seems too wishy-washy, that's why.
The problem is in the RAM I'm attempting to use.  Crucial's Ballistix DDR2 1066 http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=BL2KIT12864AA1065 wants to be run at 2.2 volts, and before updating the BIOS through live update it worked without a hitch.  Now after I ran the update, it gives me errors.
By the way, how in high hell can MSI put out motherboards without documenting them properly?  I spent hours trying to find out how to either change the voltage in the BIOS or do the same in Windows through the Dual Core utility.  The latter ran, but never actually changed the voltage.  And the BIOS - there's nothing in the manual or official online pages that tell you how to change the damn voltage!  It was only after I searched through enough forums that a user suggested using Page Up-Page Down.  Worked like a charm, but wow, if the manual or BIOS had said as much it would have saved me so much time.
So I do have the BIOS selected at 2.2 volts now, everything else set to auto.  I save and reboot, but no luck.  After three restarts the board tells me in very broken english that my attempted "overclock" has failed with settings reset to default.  I get into the BIOS to find that the voltage is still at 2.2 (which makes sense, otherwise the system wouldn't boot at all, correct?) with all the other settings as they were before.
    Question time:
    1) The first BIOS revision worked with my RAM perfectly it seemed.  Is there a way to "roll back" without busting out a floppy?
    2) Why isn't the system booting?  I know this is a RAM issue because if I break out a slower stick of DDR2 4200 that runs at the more "normal" 1.8 volts, it can get into Windows just fine.  This is how I attempted to set the voltage using MSI's Dual Core utility to no avail.
I've heard good things about MSI motherboards, but these snags I've run into discourage me from using MSI in the future.  Running a board's memory or CPU at higher voltages isn't rocket science, in fact so many memory vendors do it right out of the gate it's incredible you have to do the memory hot swap at all.
    Any help would be appreciated.

OK, I've reflashed the BIOS back to v1.0 and now I'm able to boot once again with my Ballistix memory.  Thank God for forum moderators and USB flash tools.
I might play with the BIOS further - I took a quick look at the revision changes and none really referenced changes in overclocking or RAM compatibility.  As I already explained, I won't be able to get this machine to whom it's intended for until after Christmas so at this point I'm in no hurry as the problem is most definitely a BIOS issue.
Also, after examining my voltages confirmed by CPUz after reloading the v1.0 BIOS, the board correctly detected my memory's stock voltage at 2.2v, which is good to know and lines up with what I've experienced beforehand.
Hopefully they can fix this in a future BIOS revision, but since my Q6600 and RAM appears to be detected correctly at the moment I may never bother.
If anyone needs or wants me to look into this further or to reupdate the BIOS one at a time for documentation/research, let me know, otherwise consider this case closed.

  • P35 NEO2 FIR compatible with Zalman CNPS7700?

    Can I install Zalman CNPS7700 Cu on P35 NEO2 FIR With E6750?
    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if it will fit.  In any case, as far as I know the CNPS77000 Cu only has a 3-Pin FAN-Connector.  The problem here is that the P35 Neo2-FIR (and all recent MSI Boards) have a 4-Pin CPU Fan Header.  If you want to take advantage of the automatic CPU FAN regulation feature of the board, you need a CPU Cooler that has a 4-Pin FAN Connector.
Users have reported that the following CPU Coolers should fit for sure:

  • MSI P35 NEO2 FR Processor Support issue

    Hi,
I am really in love with the P35 Neo2 FR and I really want to buy it, but I have a small doubt. I actually have an Intel P4 3E GHz Prescott (FSB 800,L2 Cache 1MB) which I am somehow forced to keep from my old system because I don't have enough money to buy a new one right now. I am changing all my components except the processor. I have checked the CPU Support chart and my processor is UNDER TESTING  . It's not a firm NO as for those with lower FSBs, so I guess there is something.
Should I buy this board to use it a few more months with my old CPU? Will it work properly? Please help me
    Thank you in advance,

I can't really advise on this as I do not have this combination, however, you can email MSI for more information.
